  1. My son goes to a high school for exceptional students and their scholarship potential is extremely high. I have told him he can go anywhere he wants with the exception of one school, I will let you all figure out which school it may be, and of course he is at the age where he lives to piss me off...lol

    Vassar?

  2. Actually, stomach punch aside I'm pretty pleased with the game today. CU almost pulled a win out of Lincoln despite the fact that the Huskers didn't play horribly. Considering the situation this team was in, that's a pretty weighty accomplishment, and it'll certainly be another great entry into the history of the series.

I will say this, though: Your kicker needs to acquire a less communist last name. Henery? What the hell is that? Take the lead from the rest of your team - Your quarterback isn't named Gananz, your coach isn't named Pelinini, and your d-lineman isn't named Suhuh. Go with Henry, for god's sake.

  3. Please tell me you don't honestly believe that. I don't know where all the genious graduates are, but they apparently don't frequent the academic circles myself and other University of Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado State, Wyoming, and Utah grads run in IN THE CITY OF DENVER.

Overrated school with less than talented professors. Keep telling yourself that you stand for academics while your ratings go down every year. Back this up with facts, or don't post your BS on here.

I really don't want to get into one of these "well my school has this, yours only has this" debates, but you've pretty much forced my hand here. Nebraska is a fine school, but it's not on par with Colorado academically. Nor is Oklahoma, Iowa State, Texas Tech, or any of the other schools in the Big XII other than Texas, Baylor, and Aggieland. This is not an opinion, this is a fact.

Four of the "less than talented" members of CU's faculty have received Nobel prizes in the past 8 years. I'm not sure what our ranking was this year, but I know that CU has been ranked as the 11th best public university in the country by The Economist numerous times this decade. In 2007 CU was ranked as the #34 university in the world (public or private) by the Institute for Higher Education. 17 CU graduates have gone on to become astronauts and fly in space (that's a lot). Also, most graduates from CU know how to properly spell the word "genius."

I think I'll stop there. Please give my regards to your esteemed circles.

  4. Look at it this way, after those 5 years his son will have graduated by then, a senior, earning close to the equivalent of $125,000 of education/possible degree at Boulder

He could have gotten the same level of education for a third the price if he would have just enrolled at Hamilton Business College... <_<

You do realize that CU carries a large part of the Big XII's academic credibility on it's back, right?

  5. That said, now that NU's fallen on hard times it seems that the student body at CU gets a lot more excited for the CSU game every year, so maybe soon enough we'll have a situation where both sides are railing on and on about how this "really isn't a rivalry."

Wait a second...how has Colorado been doing? I think it is obvious by the feelings of the fans that it isn't a rivalry. If it was a true rivalry then I'm sure the CU fans would be excited about the game regardless of "Nebraska" having fallen on hard times...

Any rivalry game is going to have a lot less passion involved when nothing of substance is on the line. I'm sure today's Michigan/Ohio State game would have been a lot more exciting for the fans involved if Michigan were ranked, or if Ohio State were playing for anything other than an outside chance to get a Rose Bowl bid. Just the same, I'm sure there'd be a lot more passion in next week's CU/NU game if either CU or NU was ranked, or if NU was playing for something more than getting themselves to a more prestigious crappy bowl, or if CU was playing for something more than just getting themselves to a crappy bowl in the first place.

Admittedly CU fans generally get a lot more excited for a Nebraska game than they get for a similar game against KState or ISU, and the older fans (the fans who were students in the 80's and 90's) without question still circle Nebraska as THE big game of the year, but my point was that the students seem to get more excited for CSU than they do for the Nebraska game nowadays, so maybe the CU/NU "rivalry" will be denied on both sides once those students become the older fans. Dig?

Colorado is excited about playing Nebraska reguardless if they're 0-11 or we're going through a losing period. I mean, the Colorado players and fans seemed to "Mark Out" (Sorry, wrestling term), over their win keeping Nebraska from going to a bowl, In 2001, Colorado pinned a 62-36 win against Nebraska, and in 2002 my Wife and I were at the Nebraska Colorado game in Lincoln and the Buffs fans were in droves yelling 62-36!

Colorado vs Nebraska might not have the prestige that Oklahoma vs Nebraska had, but even if We don't consider Colorado a rival, they sure think that way about us.

2001 is an entirely different situation, and really has no relevance to what the game is like today. After 10 consecutive years of painfully close losses (with few exceptions, 1994 comes to mind), Nebraska comes into Boulder undefeated, heavily favored, with the eventual heisman winner on their roster, and not only does CU beat them, they absolutely destroy them and set all sorts of records along the way. Any win like that is going to have a sizable hangover effect on both fan bases... hell, CU fans such as myself still talk about that game, and we probably always will. That was probably one of the top 3 or 5 most meaningful wins in CU program history.

That was 7 years ago though. Since then Nebraska has gotten dramatically worse (then better, but only in bits and pieces), but has never come anywhere close to being dominant like they used to be, while Colorado has been up and down (also never nearly as good as they were in '01) and has really yet to get its feet completely back under it following the whole "scandal" fiasco. With all of this taken into account, it's no wonder that both fan bases are a lot more apathetic about the series than they were 5+ years ago. It'll come back though, assuming at least one of the programs does.

  6. Someday one of those Buff fans is going to have to tell me how they do that "urine filled balloon trick. I can never find a balloon big enough to stretch over my dick and end up pissing on my shoes.... <_<

You should also try sticking a nail through a marshmallow, throwing it, and seeing how capable of a projectile it makes. The key to your typical "that's nothin', one time a CU fan _______ at me when I was in Boulder" story from a Husker fan is its complete and utter lack of grounding in reality and/or the laws of physics.

  7. Wait-- where's the qualifier that states that rivalries are created on the field, and not by some mountain coach who decides that his team needs a rival, so he designates another team as the "red letter game"?

As much as it hurts Husker fans to hear Oklahoma say that Texas is their real rival, I think it ticks these 'Buffs off that we don't acknowlege a rivalry with them.

Well it's not like NU and CU never played before McCartney started making a bigger deal out of the game... if I remember correctly the series dates back to the 1890's, though I think that's true of most of the old big 8 matchups. Regardless, McCartney's "deciding" on Nebraska as CU's rival was only a catalyst - that decision on his part wouldn't have any relevance today were it not for the 15+ years of top 10 matchups and nail biting finishes that followed it (I'm talking about 1986 through 2001, primarily).

I find it odd that Nebraska fans alternate so effortlessly between declaring that either A: CU fans are apathetic towards football in general, or B: that CU fans truly care a great deal whether or not Nebraska fans perceive them to be a "real" rival. Well, which one is it? We can't care and not care about football at the same time, folks. :dunno

  8. And as far as a "rivalry" goes, I think there has to be a continued history of close games, and an even won/loss record in the series.

In the total NU-CU series (I'm not going to waste the time to research the accurate number) I believe we lead the series by at least 35 games!

Oklahoma is the only team in the old Big 8 that we consistently competed with. We have such a huge advantage in wins over all the other former Big 8 teams, so any talk of a rivalry with those teams seems silly.

Ehh, I don't think there's any sort of set requirements that a game has to have for a yearly contest to become a rivalry game. Obviously most heated rivalries have a few things in common (close proximity to one another, history of success for one or both programs, perceptually or literally differing social dynamics at each school, reciprocity, etc) and CU/NU fits the bill for most of these categories, but it's not like missing one or two of the common qualifiers excludes a game from being seen as a rivalry. That said, now that NU's fallen on hard times it seems that the student body at CU gets a lot more excited for the CSU game every year, so maybe soon enough we'll have a situation where both sides are railing on and on about how this "really isn't a rivalry."

Regardless, the title of rivalry game doesn't really matter to me too much, I just enjoy the tradition (or if you're prefer a less romantic term, "recurrence") of the game the day after Thanksgiving. It's nice to have that big network audience, and it's a superb way to wake up from a turkey coma.

As far as the whole "Oklahoma is our only real rival" argument - well, I just hope you guys really soaked in all the pageantry, tradition, and mutual respect that game brought into your lives this year... you know, for the 3 or 4 minutes of gametime when Oklahoma wasn't up by 28 points. :thumbs

  9. Nice come back, don't think we can recover from that one. Guess you 'GOT' us!

At sCUm they only use Cliffs notes right? I mean, they don't have books there I heard.

Yes... were it not for its dearth of legitimate literature, my precious alma mater might have also soared to the lofty scholarly heights required to produce a graduate who would go on to invent the McRib sandwich.

    :sigh:

By the way man, and this is purely just a personal note, could you add a couple more pictures to your signature? It's not nearly big enough.

  10. Sorry Cy Id say swap ISU with IOWA. I think they would have a better chance in teh big 10 then the big 12. Not as many high caliber teams on a regular basis in the big 10 as there is in the big 12. Just one mans opinion though. Might give ISU a chance to build up there program a bit to contend iwth the bigboys more.

And Iowa's incentive for moving to the Big XII would be...? :dunno

  11. Oklahoma State (8-2) at Colorado (5-5) – Sadly, OK-State turned out to be the first team to drop the ball in the chase for the South crown. Always had a soft spot in my heart for Stillwater…the taste of the turf, the warmth of the sun on my face after being laid out…ah the memories. Regardless, they’ve been eliminated from the South title and will take out their frustrations by eliminating Colorado from bowl contention. Hawkins will probably start again…I believe he’s been measured for his coffin already...and he’s not as good as Iowa State made him look.

Oklahoma State (9-2) over Colorado (5-6)

How are they going to pull that off? Are they going to beat CU so bad it'll somehow count for 2 losses instead of 1?

  12. Or...just install Colorado State. They generally field the best college football team in that state anyway....

As evidenced by their 19-58 record head to head against the Buffs.

Once again Cy, you're right on the ball :sarcasm

  13. Colorado (4-4) at Texas A&M (3-5) – Colorado looked absolutely horrible against Missouri and have scored the least amount of points of any Big 12 school...in any sport, including baseball! (just kidding...kinda)...and how many people were saying just weeks ago how tough Colorado was going to be? Not happening in Boulder this year. Texas A&M has no defense but, for the second week in a row they won’t really be needing one as Colorado’s defense has proven to be just slightly less inept than their offense (though not at inept as A&M’s which is equally horrible)

    Texas A&M (4-5) over Colorado (4-5)

Actually, outside of last week CU's D has been pretty decent, especially considering the fact that they've gotten no support from the offense at all.

  14. I think Hawkins is a good coach. I think they would honestly be wise to keep him. If they do, CU will compete for the North in a few years, that is my bet.

Hawk's not going anywhere. The amount of good he's doing for the program off the field renders his performance on the field almost moot.

But let's not act like he's done a terrible job on the field either; CU's 4-4 right now with losses to Texas, Missouri, Kansas, and Florida State... that's nothing to get too upset about, regardless of how bad two of those drubbings were.

  15. Well, I think they were a little hard on 3 coaches on that list. Zook had winning seasons, and he built the foundation for Urban and the NC. I'm sure some would like to say Blake did the same for Stoops at OU, but man his record was horrible while doing it. Zook still had seasons we can only dream about this year. I'm appauled they put Coker on that list. All he did was win a NC and have one of the greatest stretches in college football. Miami arguably has better talent now than in Coker's final year/years, and they are remarkably worse. Barnett? You've got to be kidding me. He took over for Rick the Prick. Brought CU back onto the map. He won or played in the Big 12 Championship how many times? I was always under the impression it was the boosters enticing players. He may have known about it, or he may not have. However, he was a heck of a coach. I think Rick the Prick deserves to be on the list a lot more than Barnett. He's been a college coach at two different schools and he's undefeated in landing them with NCAA sanctions.

Agreed. You can call Barnett's time in Boulder a lot of things ("calamitous" comes to mind), but disappointing isn't one of them. A Big XII Championship and 3 other North titles says otherwise, despite the relative weakness of the division during those years. Slick Rick's tenure at Washington was WAAAAYYYY worse.

Also, and I realize this isn't the board to be saying this sort of stuff, but contrary to the opinions of whomever wrote that article-like thing, nothing was ever substantiated whatsoever regarding the so called "scandal" at Colorado. It makes me sick that the slanted trial by media that CU had to endure that year has translated into an assumed guilty verdict by everyone in the country, regardless of the fact that no legitimate verdict was ever rendered.

  16. You guys are acting like this past game was an isolated event. We've been improving under Pinkel for many years, and we're not going anywhere.

Your team on the other hand seems to be going backward, sliding into Baylor territory. It's time you guys take a long look at your program and prepare for a few years of mediocrity. You're just not a good team anymore. It sucks, but accept it. Southeast Missouri gave us a better game than Nebraska did.

Just be thankful Pinkel has class and didn't hang 70+ on you like all of us wanted him to do.

Weren't you the guy calling for Pinkel's head after he completely wasted all 4 years of Brad Smith's tenure? Wait, maybe that was someone else... and by "someone else" I actually mean "every fan of Missouri football fan who isn't dead."

Regardless, to say that Missouri has been steadily improving under Pinkel "for many years" is a gross misrepresentation of the situation. Before Chase Daniel arrived the Missouri program was in the exact same place that it was at the beginning of Pinkel's stay in Columbia.

Now that said, your second declaration ("we're not going anywhere") may prove to be true, though it's certainly no sure thing at this time. We'll have to wait and see how the recruits that Pinkel's been bringing in recently pan out... only time will tell.
