  1. Honestly, I'd be shocked as hell if Paulus ended up coming here...

I just don't see it happening.

And if we need a scout team QB that badly, then I'd be glad to help out. I've got 5 years of eligibility left...

Fell free to contact me, Coach Watson.

He can't redshirt, so he would not be a scout team QB if he comes here. It would be a huge benifit to us for the future if we could RS Green and LTW, so I'm crossing my fingers that he comes here. Remember, point guards are the QB's of basketball, and this guy is battle tested at one of the best b-ball schools in the country.

  2. For starters Saunders, your study doesn't hold as much weight as you want it to. If it did, KSU and ISU would be running things in the North, which isn't happening. Heck, I don't care how much experience a BAD O-line has (see KSU) they'll still get worked every Saturday.

I know my team better than you Saunders, and though we lost both guards and our center, the talent we have replacing them is better, and they saw some time last year. Our O-line will be better than you think....especially better than last years bunch.

For the record, I never said KU's d-line was better than NU's. That's crazy talk. I just mentioned how Greene and Parish had been coming along and how I expect big things from them. I feel good about the nd-line. I never once put down Suh, and have mentioned several times how I feel he is the best DT in the nation and will likely be a top 5 draft pick as long as he stays healthy. Players like him just don't grow on trees. He is a difference maker, and won't be the reason you lose to KU. Your offense will.

Oh-enjoy the qoutes "classy fans" :)

Right on JGS30, you have just earned some extra message board brownie points. I take back what I said about you not being classy like jawhawk.

There is nothing wrong with a little pre-season smack talk to get everyones juices flowing.

  3. In before huskerwrkhavoc comes in to defend Anderson. :snacks:

What's needing to be defended? He said exactly what i've been saying. He needs another year. I've defended Anderson when everyone has been calling for his head.. I've been down as saying that if next year is a repeat of this year we need to look for a new coach.. so that comment was completely unnecessary and unfounded...

Now, if you're trying to say 55 that Nesseth doesn't have major league stuff? You're wrong. That's not up to you or me to decide.. Talk to the scouts that have been at games.. They will tell you the kid is good. He's only a sophomore for God's sake...

Like i've said, next year will be the year to show what the staff has been able to do with these guys.. They return a ton of talent coming back (and coming in for that matter) and need to get the job done, which I feel will happen..

I know, i was just yanking you're chain a little. Its not like there would be a quick fix hire out there, if we fire Anderson.

  4. LOL=WR isn't even close. KU has the best wideouts in the Big 12! You guys are crazy! I would also say our linebackers have a slight edge, even though we lost all 3 starters. Wright, Shermer, and Sprinmger saw significant time at LB last year, so it's not like we lack experience.

Your D-line might be better than ours, but I'm excited about the guys we have back in Jamal Greene and Darius Parish who checks in at 6"4 346lbs!! I can't wait to see his improvement. He saw significant time as a true freshman last year and word is he has improved greatly this offseason. Also, your o-line is about even to ours. We have 3 returners in Hatch, Spikes and Biere. Our starting guard is a transfer from Wisconsin (who was starting for them by the way) and a redshirt freshman named John Williams who is 6"4 336 lbs.

The game won't be that close in Lawrence. And yes, it DOES make a difference playing in Lawrence...have ya'll forgot that we put 76 points on you guys last time you were there? And for your defense being so great, we still scored 4 td's on you last year in Lincoln. We'll score more than tha this year boys. Your defense was ranked 55th in the country last year. It wasn't as great as everyone on here seems to think.

Damn, it sounds like they have parrish on the same diet as you're fat ass coach. He will have to be put on oxygen before the second quarter..lol

No one on here said our defense was great last year, and Bo will be the first to tell you that it was far from palying to his standards. But we have a ton of young fast talent comming in, along with key returning players with another year of experince in Bo( the master of defense) Pelini's system. So yes, look for more of the same( Reesing on his back) next year.

Hey JGS30, do you promise to put the NU-KU score in you're sig when we win next year? Oh wait, I forgot that you don't deliver on you're promises. It's to bad you are not a classy poster like jayhawk is.

  5. If Harrell can't even get an invite as a free agent, how on earth could a tradition-laden school like Nebraska who uses West Coast principles not pretty easily land a top tier quarterback every now and again?

Well we have had one(Beck) not pan out, and two( Freeman and Gabbert) de-commit. Now we have a former #1 juco QB( Lee) and highly rated 4star QB( Green). We are not doing to bad, but we have to win alot more games to get more interest. I'm more concerned about getting some big time recievers for these guys to trow to right now.

  6. Just saw the KC Star predictions and thought I would add a link to my own. I predict every game for the 2009 Big 12 football season and have Kansas representing the North in the Big 12 Championship. I have the Huskers finishing the regular season 9-3.

    2009 Big 12 season predictions

    Taylor Potts at 2?:dunno

Wow, I didn't even see that. A guy know one has ever heard of is going to be better than Colt McCoy? Sorry Lance, once again I have to disagree. He may put up some big passing numbers, but what TT QB hasn't ? TT is going to suck this year.

Thanks Lance. But you don't explain you're picks in the article at all. I would think that a Nebraska guy liek yourself could clearly see how we totally dominated both lines of scrimmage last year. I realize that Reesing is a stud, but what make's you think he will get anymore protection this year? Plus, our secondary will be 10X better in Bo's second year, so Brisco won't be running wild on us this year.

NU=better defensive line, offensive line, secondary, tight ends, running backs and kicking game

    KU= better QB(Reesing) reciever(Brisco)

    edge=NU

  9. I think this kid will shoot up the rankings by years end. He reminds me of Dennard talent wise. He ran a 4.4 forty and vertical of 41 inches at his last camp and I'm sure teams are going to take notice.

Holy crap, this kid is a freak of nature athlete. He almost has the Huskers verticle team record, which is 41.5 by Trev Alberts.

  10. Damn we can just give up on this kid now cause we're competing against Iowa State with this kid

Not to worry, ISU just got a verbal from another QB. We're back in it! :P

Thank God, now we only have to compete with Alabama and LSU

  11. Hey, we need to use every recruiting angel we can get at this point. Warm weather schools tell skill positon players like wide recievers, that their numbers will be alot higher at warm weather schools, so we need to jump on the fact that spread offense school are not putting QB's in the NFL.

Of course, now we have to get some there to sell that point.

  12. You know what I rather take this kid over any other Texas WR anyday because his dad is a former player and I like to see sons of former huskers play for us.

    I WANT THIS KID N

So you are saying you would take this kid over Darius White, who is the #1 rated reciever in the country out of Texas, for a un-rated reciver, because his dad played for NU? I love to see us keep it in the family too, but give me a break. This kid might be good, but he is no Darius White.

  13. It sounds like of the two KC recievers, Lucas and Terry, Lucas is the better reciever.

    I'll take both.

Yeah, me too, but by reading their strengths and weakness, Lucus has a greater upside. Terry sounds like he needs alot of development before he would be ready to play Big 12 football. Sound like Lucas could play as a true freshman.

  14. Rated Rivals.com 18th ranked WR.

Scout has him as #13 and shows Missouri as leading but in their last article he says he's wide open despite some saying Oklahoma and Missouri lead. He also has good things to say about Nebraska. Would be an impressive get for Nebraska.

    ESPN's take:

Lucas is a smooth, long, lean wide receiving prospect with a wide catch radius and acrobatic playmaking ability. He possesses excellent height and is fleet of foot for such a tall player. He has great feet off the line, as a route runner and after the catch. Gets into routes quickly and has some flexible wiggle to his overall change-of-direction which makes it difficult for defenders to gauge his overall speed. Is very smooth into and out of his cuts and is fluid as a runner. The trait that sticks out about Lucas is his ability to quickly pluck the football away from his frame, tuck it and get upfield. He consistently extends away from the body to haul in passes and has quick hands. His height makes him dangerous downfield in contested match-ups, but couple that with his ability to attack and reach over his head and the outstretched arms of the defender and you have a guy that is really difficult to match-up with one-on-one. More (including video)

It sounds like of the two KC recievers, Lucas and Terry, Lucas is the better reciever.

  15. BigWillie, you have mentioned Greens mechanics before. What do you see that is wrong with his mechanics? I don't know squat about that kind of thing, but I thought his passes looked pretty good.

Take a look at THIS THREAD. Willie has at least a couple of posts (and as I recall, a video link) in which he breaks down Cody's mechanics. Pretty interesting read.

That was interesting, thanks for the link. BigWillie really know his stuff. He sounds like he is a QB coach.

  16. Sounds like he's a Nebraska lean right now. They're looking at him at all the LB positions. Tim Beck is his recruiting coach. Will be visiting fairly soon this summer.

Beck needs to close on a kid like this. So far, Beck hasn't been that ace recruiter we had hoped he would be. We know he has the connections, he has to show it now.

Wasn't he known for recruiting under the radar guys at Kansas? Now he is trying to go after guys that all the big boys want, so it will be alot harder for him. We need to beat the big boys to get their recruits.

Beck was known as a former HS coach having all the connections needed to pull talent out of the DFW. The only thing he needed was a more prestigious program to make it happen on a larger scale. Well, he is at a prestigious program and in his first year, the results didn't show up.

And before some Kansas fan possibly reads this and jumps down my throat - those are the facts. You aren't Nebraska and you never will be.

That's not to say Beck cannot do it. He is still a good recruiter. It just hasn't shown up yet.

Well if he was responsible for recruiting Rex Burkhead, I would say he is off to a pretty good start. He would have never have gotten a high profile guy like him to Kansas.

  18. Sorry...I might have gotten carried away.

Rivals came out with position rankings and I thought while I was looking I'd update the board. Then I realized there were a lot of names...

LOL! Not a problem - the beauty of it is that for those who are looking for information on specific recruits will see that information. Thanks!

:yeah i spent about 30 mins reading threw it all lol. i'll admit though, it was a little weird seeing that many posts from someone other than street novelist...

Yeah dude, you better watch out. You are moving in on street novelist turf.

  19.

Yeah we need QB's, but we need the kind who can step up and play at the D-I level. Obviously he couldn't or they wouldn't have switched him to safety. If he switched back to QB, what is he going to bring to the table? He'd be 5th string at best and wouldn't see the field anyways, so what does it matter?

I'm not talking about playing Ebke if Lee were to go down. If that were to happen, of course we turn to Green or LTW. I'm talking about in the instance of a blowout. We will not keep Lee in and run the risk of having something unfortunate happen. So who do we bring in? A guy we need to redshirt or a guy who is likely not going to be on the 3-deep anytime soon?

I see what you're saying about burning the redshirt, but either way, one of those guys: LTW, Green, or Martinez needs to get some game experience sometime. Plus, we also have Kellogg if we just need somebody to take the snap and hand it off. I don't think Ebke will switch back to QB. Though it's a longshot, there's way more of a chance he sees the field as a safety than as a QB.

Yes, sometime they do. In about 2 years when Zac Lee runs out of eligibility.

Playing in games at this point is the least of LTW, Green or Taylor's worries. The biggest worry they have is mechanics, decision making and timing. That goes for all of them except Taylor, since he is not here. Mechanics are not worked out in a game. Neither is timing. Decision making you need to pick up in practice as well, but refine it in a game.

Thus why you see very few freshman QB's run an offense, unless it is a completely 'dumbed' down version. In Watson's offense, that won't be the case.

Kellogg is another guy who should redshirt. He had a very nice camp here last summer and the coaches like him as well. Redshirt the kid and see what you have down the road. No reason to burn a redshirt just for a few late game snaps that are likely to be meaningless.

BigWillie, you have mentioned Greens mechanics before. What do you see that is wrong with his mechanics? I don't know squat about that kind of thing, but I thought his passes looked pretty good.

  20. Ex-Husker Swiney, 2nd man get prison for pot

    By The Associated Press

    Thursday, May 07, 2009 - 10:45:49 am CDT

GRAND ISLAND — Former Husker football player Erwin Swiney and another Texas man have been given Nebraska prison time for 41 pounds of marijuana.

The 30-year-old Swiney, of Cedar Hill, Texas was a Husker defensive back from 1997 through 2001.

    http://journalstar.com/articles/2009/05/08...f8685960487.prt

I thought Erwin Swiney was from Lincoln and went to Northeast? Or am I thinking of someone else?

    No I'm right...

16 Swiney, Erwin DB 6-01 180 Fr. Lincoln, Neb. (Northeast)

    1997 NU Roster

That's great journalism there...can't even get basic facts right.

You are correct Jen. Thats alot of time, for selling a plant that makes people happy, and has never killed anyone. Of course I had to quit, becuase being a lazy stoner was getting me nowhere in life.

  21. So if this picture was taken the year these guys all redshirted (since that is the only year they were all on the team when we lost to Texas) it would mean that they would have been doing the Strength and Conditioning under the Solich staff in 2003. Isn’t that the same staff that TO was using? Isn’t that the same staff that built up all the teams in the Glory Days? So they didn’t know what they were doing?

Also guys that are redshirting and unable to travel to road games can’t go out and party if the team losses? I’m sure none of the guys that redshirted this year did that or any of the guys that redshirted any other year.

Like I said, if any of the folks on here didn’t do stupid stuff and were so huge and intimidating when they were that age then judge away. But for some reason I doubt most of the people on here fall under that category.

This was taken in 2006, after we lost at home to Texas 22-20.

We are not judging them, we are making fun of them. However, the way Mckeon quit on his team in 2007, opens him up to judgement by the Husker Nation. It does not mater if you hate you're coaches, you keep playing hard if you are a true Husker. I don't have a problem with any of those other guys, except this Gingery douche, ecspecially since he went to my High school.
