  1. I hope if we have to pay it that we do it on the condition that is distributed equally and Texas, OU, and A&M don't get most of it.

Hate to be the one to break the bad news to you, but I believe one of the conditions of keeping those three was that the rest of the confrence forfiets their share. So all of the exit pennalties from both Nebraska and Colorado would go to the three you mentioned.

That is being disputed by none other than Mizzou.

  2. To me, this sounds like all is not so happy happy in Big 12 land....

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe said that the conference has not reached a new TV deal but indicated that preliminary negotiations with both Fox Sports Network and ESPN could mean sizable increases for all Big 12 schools.

Beebe also said that Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor and Iowa State agreed to abandon their stake in any buyout penalties paid by the two departing schools as incentive to keep Texas and four other Big 12 South schools from bolting for the Pac-10.

Both Alden and Deaton disputed that account, saying Missouri has not agreed to give up its share of the buyout penalties.

  3. There will be lots of talk of how we are all Texas's B****, but lets look at the initial reports

    1) Schools like ISU, Baylor and K-state, who really might have been screwed (I like K-state's odds the best), are now looking to have thier conference fees double. Obliion to a huge raise, not bad.

    2) Apparetnly A&M and OU get about as much or as much as UT. So UT is not at some massive advantage there

    3) Longhorns could have their own network... Well, they have by far the most fans. Baylors brings basically nothing, but gets 2/3 what Texas does. Sounds like a good deal to me. If theirown network still leaves the rest of us with money close to or on par with the SEC

    4) We get to keep most of our rivals. I know the Pac 16 was a little sexier, but Ihappen to like our old rivals in their roles and am glad to have em....

Could the whole thing fall to crap in 5-10 years, maybe... That is a distinct possibility... But I am glad our old Big 8 is mostly together. Will miss the Huskers, but I think the Big 10 should be nice for you all minus the loss of a lot of your own historical rivals, best wishes...

And....what do you think your TV revenues are going to be when TU starts their Bevo Network? Enjoy it while you can, because the network that shows Big 12 games will have a hard time selling advertising when nobody in Texas will be watching.

  4. The complete meltdown by Texas fans is amazing. Who could have predicted Texas would actually end up in a worse position and Nebraska in a better one? :laughpound :laughpound :laughpound

i am thoroughly enjoying this, and what is even better (ok, not better, but a close second) is that the Pac 10 is stuck with colorado, only taking them thinking it would cause the downfall (along with the assumed departure of NU) of the big 12 and they could get whoever they wanted.

edit: i don't understand why they are blaming the aggies? for staying? UT could still leave? and they are blaming Dan Beebe? for what? finally doing his job?

Actually they the Pac 10 did fine CU isn't best football program, but it did give them the Denver market. More importantly they didn't let UT come in and ruin the conference with BS like this:

In the 11th hour, after months of telling us they understand the TV rights, they're trying to pull a fast one on the verge of sealing the deal in the regents meeting," the source said. "They want a better revenue sharing deal and their own network. Those were points of principle. (The Pac-10) wants to treat everyone fairly. It's been that way for months of discussions

    http://www.denverpos...urce=commented-

Now the PAC 10 knows what kind of underhanded crap we had to put up with for 14 years. :bat

This just reinforces my elation with NU's decision to get the hell out of the UT Piggybank Conference.

  5. Oklahoma has stated more than once that they don't want to play Nebraska and Texas every year.

I know they have stated that, but that was when we were in the same conference and that could determine if they went to the Big 12 conference game or not. Example say they beat Texas and that was Texas' only loss, but Oklahoma lost to Nebraska and Oklahoma State, Texas would go, but if that happened with Nebraska being in the Big 10 Oklahoma would end up going.

It still doesn't matter. Why would OU play two games like that? If they happen to beat UT, then there's little to stop them from winning the Big 12 Championship due to the weak sister North Division. OU has basically one tough game they have to win to get a possible shot at a National Championship Game berth with a good W/L record. Now tell me again why they want to add NU to their schedule?

  6. This really didn't have as much to do with athletics as it did academics. Athletically I'm not terribly excited about the move. It just got a little harder to have a great football team. What it does for the school is staggering. We aren't anymore a Pac 10 school than Wisconsin is. That would just be weird. I don't think the teams that are being forced to scramble for a Pac 10 spot are happy to be doing it. It is just the best option left. :koolaid2:

    Bingo!

UNL has always wanted to expand on the academic front and this was a once in a lifetime chance.

  7. First of all, we need at least seven home games on the schedule to meet expenditures for the year.

Next, each of our old conference opponents will insist on a home/home series which will inevitably bring us back to point #1. This is why these games won't work unless our new Big 10 conference schedule has enough conference home games to offset a home/home series with an OOC opponent.

  8. I love "Farmageddon." It'll never be a trophy name but it could catch on in the media, especially when both teams are contenders. Get ready for a boring drive to Iowa City. Nothing like the drive to Boulder though, I suppose..

The Big 10 has a tradition of certain games claiming traveling trophies each year. Post your predictions for future Husker vs Big 10 rivalry trophies/names.

Here is my first: Nebraska - Iowa - (FARMAGEDDON)

Here is a list of current Big 10 examples from Wikipedia:

Illinois-Northwestern (Sweet Sioux Tomahawk/Land of Lincoln Trophy)

    Indiana-Purdue (Old Oaken Bucket)

    Indiana-Michigan State (Old Brass Spittoon)

    Iowa-Minnesota (Floyd of Rosedale)

    Iowa-Wisconsin (Heartland Trophy)

    Minnesota-Wisconsin (Slab of Bacon/Paul Bunyan's Axe)

    Michigan-Michigan State (Paul Bunyan Trophy)

    Michigan-Minnesota (Little Brown Jug)

    Illinois-Ohio State (Illibuck)

    Illinois-Purdue (Purdue Cannon)

    Minnesota-Penn State (Governor's Victory Bell)

Michigan State-Penn State (Land Grant Trophy)

    Ohio State-Penn State (No Trophy)

Michigan-Ohio State (No Trophy, but Ohio State football players receive a gold pants charm if they win the game)

    Penn State-Iowa (No Trophy)

Farmageddon is what Kansas State and Iowa State called their game in Arrowhead. I'm gonna say we want to distance ourselves as far away from that disaster as possible.

I don't know.....FARMAGGEDDON just screams HICK to me.

  9. I'm just saying we aren't going to be playing any of your national championship teams from the 90's, or any of Tom Osborns teams for that matter. If anyone honsetly any of that matters now you are kidding yourself. Both Iowa and Nebby have had solid teams the last 10 years or so, teams that have very similar records. We share a border, we do have a little tradition ourselves. It's going to be one hell of a rivalry, and a lot of fun.

I personally think the last 10 years (which is really all the masses will remember) we have been the better program, but I'd expect a good portion of you would disagree with me. If you come into the B10 expecting a cake walk you are going to be sorely dissapointed. But enough of that, lets get back to this rivalry game thing.

Oh okay so the last 10 years matters, just not the last 13? The masses remember the past decade but "if any of that matters" from 97 now "we're kidding ourselves." What a joke. And I also don't recall Iowa winning a Heisman or playing for a championship this decade.

Your national title game was 13 years ago. Your incomming freshman were 5 years old when that game was played. They don't remember one damn snap. The joke is that Nebby will come in with thier 4 national titles and 4th winningest team in college football history and dominate because they have 4 national titles and are the 4th winningest team in college football. Ask scUM what tradition alone gets you in the B10 (I'll give you a hint, it's 1 and 7 in the conference).

Congratulations on your storied past. That along with your academic standing and your other athletic prowess helped you get the invite. But now that you are here get in line. Your history in college football means something between Jack and sh#t and Jack left town. That being said were damn happy to have you.

PS I really don't think you want to get in the argument of who matters more in the last decade. No titles and no Heisman's but in the last 10 years we have finished in the top 10 four times, had an AP player of the year, a Doak Walker award winner, a Mackey award winner, an Outland Trophy winner, one Heisman runner up, and one 6th place finish.

    Uh.....OK?

In the past ten years NU has finished in the Top 10 twice, Top 25 five times, played for the Nat'l Championship, 1 Heisman Trophy winner, 4th place Heisman Trophy finisher, AP Player of the Year, Walter Camp POY Award, Davey O'Brien Award winner, Outland Trophy winner, Lombardi Award winner, Rimington Trophy winner, Bronko Nagurski Award winner, and a Chuck Bednarik Award winner.

Thanks for the whatever it is advice but I think we'll be just fine.

  10. I guess it depends on who you ask. I am not sure that my loyalties will follow the huskers to the big ten. If the Big 12 would go get Notre Dame, my loyalties would stay with the big 12 instead of staying with Nebraska. This is a sad day for many Husker and Big 12 fans!

Don't let the door knob hit ya in the backside I guess.

Oh, so you are angry because I don't like the big ten? or what is your problem? I think it is absolutely wonderful, that the big ten fans will now get to come to Lincoln... whatever! How would you feel if Ohio State left the big ten and joined the ACC? I don't think you would like it either, so kma. Those of us with loyalties to both Nebraska and the big twelve are in a bad position now. Since you are obviously the smartest MF in the world, you should realize that not everyone is happy about this move. Finally, if you want to meet me in Lincoln, to discuss this without talking, I will be happy to oblige.

First trolling and now threatening a member....Stay Classy!

    again, KMA!

I don't think you'll be around that long.

  11. Forget their message board, I've been listening to their radio station online "810"..

Man, they are just angry at us. Every caller is just ranting and crying, ranting and crying..

    It's lovely really.

My Gosh....those...and mean "that" is lovely!!

Keep your eyes off the twins mister!! :box

It's hard not to. They fill up my whole damn screen.

  12. Chip Brown at Orangebloods.com says that Texas will make its announcement to join the PAC-10 after the regents meeting on Tuesday:

    Orangebloods.com

Yeah ESPN reporting the same thing. Makes sense for Texas since they don't want to actually be in a competitive conference like the SEC.

The PAC 10 will regret the day they let the cancer known as the University of Texas in it's ranks.

  14. Why is everyone so surprised Beebe has no plan? Beebe has been first and foremost an ass man for UT.

Texas got everything they wanted -- conference offices relocated to Texas, rules changes on a whim, and soon to be home of Big 12 conference championship games at Jerry's World.

Texas should be doing cartwheels. They have the conference they've always wanted.

  15. Congrats Benny!!!! :clap

    Always remember....

    1. If she's not happy....you aren't going to be happy.
    2. Make sure you live at least a half a days drive from the inlaws so they can't show up on a whim unexpectedly.

  16. How do you feel about that possibility TexasAg?

Personally I would like to move to the SEC. But I would love the change to the BIG 10 also. I hate moving to the PAC 10, buut anything is better than the BIG 12.

I think being with you guys in the BIG 10 would be great!

At the risk of transforming this into another Texas skirmish, let me tell you what's being reported here in Austin, and not just on orangebloods.com.

Our understanding is that if A&M chooses to head east, then UT has informed them that the rivalry will be over and that it will be many, many years before the two schools meet again. While this may not seem like a big deal to many of the folks here, you have to remember that even A&M's fight song is focused toward Texas, and ours mentions them. That's the kind of rivalry this has been. It would be a tragedy if this relationship were severed due to a Gene Stallings temper tantrum.

The slightly more wild report is that the Pac 10 does NOT want to wait (and the same goes for the other Texas and Okie schools) on A&M to take 30 days to make up its mind.

So it's likely this will be settled next week. If A&M decides to head East, then Kansas would be next on the Pac 10's shopping list. The Okies and Tech have hitched their wagons to Texas' horses.

As for the Big 10, the Kansas City TV station has had its clock cleaned by someone in the Big 10. The Big 10 is nowhere on the radar as far as anyone in Texas or Oklahoma is concerned. Period.

That from the UT athletic department, off the record.

The big money for Texas is out west. Not in the rust belt, not in Dixie.

Of course not. There's no way for Texas to throw its weight around in the decision making process of the Big 10. Why would they go where they can't run the show?

  17. I am happy that CU didnt get the shaft thanks to Baylor. And I find myself smiling a little at the fact that the pac10 told Texas and their state reps to suck it.

Fro, is MU going to take the leap to the Big 10 or not? It won't be the same without ya!

  18. I really don't know how it could be the last straw considering it was the right call. Again, I don't think it had any impact at all.

WHEN HAS AN INCOMPLETE PASS OUT OF BOUNDS EVER BEEN REVIEWED TO SEE HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD BE PUT ON THE CLOCK? It was a non-reviewable play but they did it for Texas since they (ran) the conference. They (were) the CEO/Chairman of the old big twelve!!!!!

Never, only when it is Texas and they are not going to the BCS National Championship Game.

Tom Osborne brought up this point at the Big 12 meeting in KC. Quote was something like, (I guess we need some new guidelines/rules on how we put time back on the clock for incomplete passes) I will look it up and edit this.

I think the last straw was/were a couple things. All championship games to be in the state of Texas and not rotating them. All teams voting consistently with Texas and against NU. I think 11-1 was the common number on most votes involving Big 12 issues.

How many people remember the 93 Orange Bowl against Florida State. It was 4th and long with a few secs left to play. Tommie Fraizer completes a pass to give the Huskers a 1st down and get in field goal range, but time had expired. The refs review the play and determine that 3 sec should be added on the clock. We kick a long field goal but we missed it. We lost the game 16 to 18, if we would of made that we would of won 3 mnc three years in a row and 4 of 5 years. The point is our Huskers got 3 sec added after the clock had expired and I heard no bitching about it. So please lets give this a rest. The reason were going to the Big 10 it is what is best for Nebraska. Even if we had beat Texas last year we are still gone.

The simple fact is it was a whole package deal. We get more revenue being on the Big 10 Network for sports. We are in a conference with all AAU accredited schools which adds prestige, and hopefully a larger, more diverse enrollment. Finally, the Big 10 will help us get our foot in the door when it comes to R&D cash which will help the campus expand its facilities years down the road.
