  1. Seriously, what has he done to get a raise? Zero championships. He has embarrassed himself on several occasions by acting like a crazy person on the sidelines. Good role model. Our national image is now an out of control coach and Larry the Cable Guy. That is a fact.

The pay is getting beyond ridiculous for coaches. It is a reflection of the overall state of affairs in the country. Overpaid executives, while everyone else struggles. How about we put all of this money in a pot, except for a very high $300,000.00 a year salary. If he wins a National Championship, he can get the pot, otherwise, he gets a very large salary. He earns the pay.

Just so you can put it into perspective, if you make $50,000.00 a year (above average), it would take you 60 years to earn his one year of pay . . . 60 years. You had better show up to press conferences, answer questions, and act like a pro for that kind of pay - he doesn't.

Before you will probably say "it's what the market decides." There is no free market at work here, this is a monopoly. There is no downside. He can continue to do what he has been doing, not winning championships and still make this money. Look at our old coach, walked out the door with millions. In a bad or good year - three million. At least for business owners, bad year, bad decisions, mean loosing everything - home, savings, etc. Worst case he he goes back to NFL as an assistant.

I'd rather see them pay the players than this kind of money to coaches . . . or at least tie it all to results.

  2. Well it is that time of the year where good topics are in short supply, but I think I got a topic that might give a little umphhhh to the board. The is Superbowl is just around the corner and I will be watching my 3rd cousin Scott Shanle play for the Saints. Sure he may not know me, but I certainly know who he is. Along with Scott and Andrew Shanle I am also related to Cory Schlesinger. Sure all three of these guys are fairly distant cousins, but they are relation. So I was wondering.....what present/former Huskers are all of you related to, or at least know personally?

My uncle dated Cory Schlesinger's grandmother. Very nice lady. True story.

  3. I know Jason Peter gave advice to Suh over the past couple of years. Saw a picture of them together after a game or some event. Peter talked about it. Did anyone hear Suh thank Peter for the advice or give him any credit? Just curious, I would have thought Peter would have had some pretty good thoughts.

  4. Wow, lived in Omaha all my life. I do love many things about the city.

However, there are many many more things to do on the coasts, there is no comparison. I used to think the way some of the posters do, but everytime I travel outside of the midwest, I'm taken aback by what other places have to offer. I'm not saying they are better places to live, that is a personal decision. But there is much more going on. Take LA for example. There are miles and miles of beaches. The beaches have trails, shopping, exercise equipment, b-ball courts etc etc.

The weather is almost always similar to our "top ten" days here, starting out in the 60's and moving to the 70's.

Other outdoor activities. They have mountains. Also, they have lakes, real ones, not the glorified ponds we have. So many outdoor things to do, hard to even list. Scuba diving, mountain biking, climbing, and on and on.

Sports teams, they have them all.

Museums. We went to the Getty, a world class art museum - and free. Untold other museums and artsy stuff.

Nightlife. I'm pretty sure the bars stay open past 1:00. We are not trusted here to stay out that late.

Entertainment - World class broadway shows, musicals. So many clubs, comics. Music. How many bands and musicians come out of that area?

Food, I love the old Omaha steakhouses, they are the unique and the best, but most of Omaha is turning into chain restaurants.

Amusement parks, if that is your thing. 6 flags, disney, the studios, water parks. And yes, the locals go.

If that doesn't do it for you, you are a drivable distance to San Francisco, San Diego, many National Parks, Vegas etc.

You have an interest, you can do it there.

This is not a rip on Omaha/Lincoln, I love the Old Market, no other city near us offers anything comparable to the atmosphere. I can write a hold post about all the things I love about Omaha and the things to do. This is a just a response to people saying we have a much to do here as they do on the coasts and I'm giving LA as an example.

They write entire books about the things to do in a place like LA or Chicago or NY. There is a reason so many people live there.

Again, just talking about the number of things to do. Omaha has less traffic and is hopefully more family friendly. Do people who live in these places take advantage of all this stuff, maybe not. Costs more to live there. I understand. But so much more going on and so much more to do.

  5. First player in 15-year history of the Bednarik to sweep the Outland, Lombardi, Nagurski and Bednarik.

Second player in 17-year history of the Nagurski to sweep Outland, Lombardi and Nagurski. Glenn Dorsey was the other.

Twelfth player in 40-year history of the Lombardi to sweep Outland and Lombardi. Three other Huskers have done this: Rimington, Steinkuhler and Glover.

    :w00t

    cool stats

  6. our beloved coach T.O. lost 7 consecutive bowl games from '87-'93?

Furthermore, he retired with a losing record of 12-13 in bowl games.

Those stats however get overshadowed by his 3 National Titles in his final 4 years as HC of Nebraska.

Just wanted to throw that out there for perspective since Husker Nation seems to be in panic-mode this week.

Sure, we've got a long way to go, but even in our "Glory Days" we fussed about not winning games we should've won.

Embrace the journey, win or lose.

Is it too late to fire him? I remember those years. Up until the mid 90's our frustration level was very high. I think an adjustment of expectations is needed. Long gone are minimum 9 win seasons. Get used to it.

Great post - 7 straight bowl losses to mostly Florida teams. Ouch. Embrace the journey . . . or we will be miserable for years to come.

yes it sucks we lost, however I think our biggest defender was the rain tonight. Excuses, yes, but this team does not have a running identity and the rain killed the passing game for both teams but mainly Mizzou. Hats off to NU for exploiting it. Suh, notice how he was 5 yards downfield when he made the pick...overrated if you ask me. Just a fatass who is on the right place at the right time. Gabbert, not as good as weeks past but not as bad as tonight. It will be okay. KU will beat this sorry team and we will beat KU.

He does make a very good point . . . it does suck that they lost. Ha ha!
