with the walk on program......

 

dean smith always used to say that you needed. to get good players, but you had to fill out your team with 4 or 5 kids that werent that good, but were great kids that would do anything for the program. I think the same holds true for football. we need those kids that arent the best players, but are the glue of the team.

 

speaking of dean smith, I hope the similarities between nebraska football and UNC basketball continue. that program is certainly back on track. who will be our Roy williams?

TO also said that all the extra walk ons allowed for extra stations to be set up so that everyone could do extra reps. This is a huge advantage. I would bet a lot of players that are at other schools right now would rather be walkons and be used as tackling dummies at NU. Give it some time and everything will work out. Too much history; too much commitment; too much excellence. By the time my boys are destroing OU QBs we will be ou of Iraq and Hillary will be out of the Whitehouse. Everything will be good in 12 years.

Barry Switzer the other night while being interviewed made a comment about how this coaching staff isn't recruiting the types of players TO did and that's why things have gone down hill. IMO, Switzer was implying that we need to get the Nebraska kids in here that know what Husker Red is. Once we get these players back instead of sending them to CU, it will breed excellence from the players we get out of state.

TO was quoted as saying that he was upset that the walkon program was dismantled. He said something along the lines of .... they would die for the program. This will be reinitiated and we again dominate the BIG 12. This is all we have in NE. We don't have any pro teams. My 6 year old and my 4 year old boys both want to play at NU. This is what it is all about. We will again conquer.

These changes would be great but, what about recruiting? Can we save the class we have for next year? It is probably worth losing a few recruits to get Cally out.

 

Or will T.O. be able to save the recruiting class?

If the recruits are coming to NU for the coach only then we don't want them. This program has to much history for the recruits to be thinking of just the coach. I think they come for the tradition and the commitment to excellence. They know we will not except anything other than winning. We are just fine. Everyone needs to unbunch their panties on this one.

With all that is going on right now it seems as if the players are not getting their fair shake. I believe it all comes down to the young men on the field being taught technique and fundamentals. We know how they are being coached and we all watch the schemes on defense and the plays on offense. I would be willing to say that you could take professional players from the NFL and put them in our current system and we would have the same lackluster results.

 

I say we show our upmost support for the players to let them know we fully respect them and all they do for the University and how important they are in our lives. Without them we wouldn't have this board and without them we wouldn't have much to drink to on Saturdays.

Anyone that doesn't think the players read this stuff are fooling themselves. We could have Bear Bryant and TO as coach and without good athletes we would all be hosed. We have the players and the talent, let's get some.....
