  1. Can someone tell me what the deal is with this kid?

He is from Abraham Lincoln in Council Bluffs IA, measures 6'0, 205 lbs.

According to iowatfxc he can run a 10.85 in the 100 and 21.88 in the 200 (http://ia.milesplit.com/athletes/960448)

And after watching these highlights it looks like the kid can play (HIGHLIGHT)

The kid is big, fast, and runs with a mean streak, i would not mind seeing him on my sideline.

I know the Huskers are stacked at RB (Burkhead, Tre, Greee, Heard), so i understand NU not offering him. But the only offers he has are Illinois State and South Dakota. I mean no offers from in-state Iowa or Iowa State.

Is this kid a huge academic risk, or a trouble maker off the field?

    Anyone got any insight

  2. Brandon Rigoni because of his huge effort on and off the field. Being only 5' 9" myself, I have to support the smaller guy that played big!

Finally someone mentioned Rigoni, he was the man i loved watching him run down on kickoffs tryin to kill someone. He had more effort and the rest of the team combined.

Also both Makovica brothers were awesome

Finally i have to give some props to Dane Todd cause he was a 2 or 3 year starter for the huskers and he was a pre-med students at UNL that graduated with a 4.0, myself being a pre-dental student and playing college football for a year, i know how time consuming both those things are and that is unbelievable.

  3. Ya i think they really need to think up some other way to decide this award......maybe i computer system would help.......wait mayber not.

however i would like to say that after watching Ingram's acceptance speech i dont mind seeing him win it

I still beleive Suh or Gerhart deserved it more however

  4. someone needs to time the segment that he is on and, ya know, count the number of times he says "ya know." i would like an to see a "ya know"/minute statistic. that'd be pretty funny, ya know?

well i decided to take the challenge while i was listening to Gabbert:

I counted 94 "ya knows" in 470 seconds

which equals 1 "ya know" every 5 seconds

  5. The crazy/sad thing is that, If we have even have a glimmer of offense this year, I really think were sitting here waiting for a National Championship game.

    VTech-Had it wrapped up.

TTech-They have no D. might have been able to survive shootout. Also at least 7 of their 31 points is taken away per pick six. 24 points is not hard.

    Iowa State-Choke. No fumbling. Win.

Texas-Well. You all know how that went. Cant punch it in from the 10. OC or offense and we put it in for the win.

We seriously could have been NC contenders this year. I really feel like this was our year. Looking back, this team could be nearly unstoppable if we have a glimmer of O.

That is what makes the future so exciting. Did you honestly think coming into the year we would have a shot at playing in the NC, cause i never even dreamed of it. However if our offense was not horrible we would probably be there right now.

With the Peini's in control of this defense we never know what they are gonna put on the field, it probably will be the best defense in the nation. So with a defense keeping us in every game, all we need is an offense that can score 1 or 2 TDs a game and i say we win alot of games every year.

  6. I'm excited to see Ankrah next year. From what I hear, he should be something else.

Ankrah, Cam Meredith and Eric Martin have me giddy for next year, along with returning guys like Dennard, Crick, Steinkuhler, Moore, Allen, Compton, Fisher, Amukamara, Dennard... the list goes on on defense.

If we are even competent on offense next year, we'll be a top ten team all season long.

One note - Jake Locker is a Junior, and I haven't heard anything about him going pro. I would not be surprised at all to see him next year in Seattle.

I did not realize he is a junoir but i heard Todd McShay say that Locker will be the #2 QB drafted behind Bradford.

also i think our secondary will be better next year than they were this year. Asante was more of a run stopping safety, and his coverage was not always the best. If our DB's can blanket opposing WR's this will make our D-line look great considering they will have more time to get after the QB.

  7. (I know its to early to look at next season but i am avoiding studying and this gives me something to do)

Well there is more than one reason why i am excited:

First of all Suh is gonna be in NY and he won the first of many awards to come tonight, Second my classes got cancelled because of the pending blizzard that is sweeping across NE.

And finally the main reason, reading some of the post talking about next year has gotten me thinking and i am very, very, very excited for next year and the years to come.

What the Pelini's brothers (and the rest of this defensive staff) have done should just about qualify as a miracle. I still vividly remember our defense from two years ago playing an average Ok. St. team in Lincoln. Watching that group of "pinkshirts" run around trying to tackle someone was like watching a bunch of overweight 45 year old Irish men on St. Patty's day trying to catch a Leprechaun. They made OSU look like they had Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin and Reggie Bush all suited up that day. Very depressing

Now two years later the most exciting offense play for me is an Alex Henery Punt, cause i know i get to watch our D-line just manhandle someone and maybe our defense will score a TD for us.

What makes next year and into the future so exciting is now going into every year i beleive we will be favored to win the Big XII north and we will have a shot at getting to the NC game a lot of those years.

I look at next year and get pretty excited, and the only thing that makes me second guess myself is our offense. If (and thats a big If) our offense can get back to respectability i think we have a good shot at being undeafeated going into the Big XII title game next year and we win that game, we should be in the NC game. Look at our schedule:

09/04 Western Kentucky @ Lincoln- not worried

09/11 Idaho @ Lincoln- not worried

09/18 Washington @ Seattle- No Jake Locker and we play good on the rode=not to worried

09/25 South Dakota St. @ Lincoln- former DII school so not worried

10/02 #Kansas State @ Manhattan- This scares me a little but i still think we can out talent them

10/16 #Texas @ Lincoln- Our players (and coaches) will be out for blood, its in Lincoln, McCoy, Shipley, 3 O-linemen, 2 D-linemen, the leading tackler on the team will all graduate, and its about time we beat texas

10/23 #Oklahoma State @ Stillwater- This game scares me a little cause i think the Big XII north will come down to the Missouri game and NU might over look Okie St, but the fact that OSU loses Robinson, Tolston, Bryant, 3 O-linemen and 9 of the 11 starters on D i think we win this game

10/30 #Missouri @ Lincoln- This game i think will decided the Big XII north and Misouri was a young this year, so i think they will have a decent team next year. The game is in lincoln though and our D will be to much for the Missour offense.....so we win

11/06 #Iowa State @ Ames- Dont turn the ball over 8 times and win this game

11/13 #Kansas @ Lincoln- No Reesing or Meier and i would not be surprised to see Briscoe leave early, games in lincoln and i think we win.

11/20 #Texas A&M @ College Sta.- They have a good QB but lose 3 O-linemen, i think our defense is too much to handle = win

11/26* #Colorado @ Lincoln- We hate them they hate us, they suck so we win

If this all lines up the way i would like, then we would be going up against OU (probably) in the Big XII championship and eventhough OU will be a much better team next year, its still just one game and anything can happen.

Now all of this hinges on the assumption that our offense improves a lot next year. You never know what can happen from year to year. I mean who here thought we would have the best defense in the nation this year after that debacle under Callahan.

On the bright side, we every single offensive starter back next year minus Jacob Hickman and he should be replaced nicely by Mike Caputo. We will need a few players to step up in replace a few senoirs on defense like Suh (unreplaceable), Dillard, both safeties and Turner. I think we have the guys to do it though.

We have some great your LB's to replace Dillard, Crick and Steinkuhler i think can hold up the middle, Cameron Meredith i think is gonna be a stud at D-end, and in the secondary P.J. Smith fills Asante's shoes nicely and Hagg will step in at free safety

  8. I dont think we will have any coaching changes next year unless a coach leaves on his own for a better job. However, i would agree with you in that i think Cotton needs to go and i am really starting to lean towards Watson getting the boot also (falling would be a better word that leaning at this point).

Everything does start upfront and from what i saw in 2003 and from what i heard from Iowa St. fans, Cotton does not produce dominant O-lines. I would like to add that if you look at Cotton on wikkipedia he does have a decent resume, but personally i am not seeing the results on the field this year.

I would like to know is there any cotton fans out there that can give some good reasons why this guy should stay. Let me know cause i want to like this guy but i cant find many reasons to want him as our coach

  9. I have thought that Watson was a good coach for a while and defended him, but some things are just unacceptable. I dont want to see another NC caliber defense just go to waste, while we are waiting for a "young" QB to grasp the system.

After seeing those stats i am quickly (very quickly) losing faith in Watson. Personally i dont want to have a top five offense every 10 years that is very complex and complicated.

Give me a simpler offense that college kids can pick up easy, and be consistently in the top 40. Then the year that you get an experienced QB from time to time you can elaborate on the playbook and do some more complicated things.

Wasting the best defense in the nation on this TERRIBLE offense just F'in Pisses me off..........ugh....FML

  10. Mel Kiper and Todd McShay just had a debate about the Heisman this year, and Mel Kiper was giving Suh some hype, saying that just because Suh isnt a skill player and is not a NC contender doesnt mean he is not the best player in the nation.

McShay was just being realistic and saying that the Heisman winner will come from Florida, Texas, or Alabama, and he will play either QB or RB.

Just thought that some of you would like to know that Suh is getting a little respect out there in the Media and specifically from someone who works for ESPN

  11. Let's please not try to turn this into a Green vs Lee smackdown, please. With only one year of eligibility left, this thread isn't even intended to be about Lee.

I've been fond of Green as our long-term quarterback prospect, but last night I saw something that concerned me for the long-term. Maybe I wasn't seeing what I thought, and there will be those of you that can make me feel better.

I've always viewed Cody as a dual-threat quarterback and was willing to overlook some errant passing in his freshman year as he grew into the role of starting quarterback. Last night, however, I saw a quarterback that did not have that "burst out of the hole" that is necessary to successfully run some of our running plays like the option. Granted, once he gets up a head of steam he really can fly, but in many cases you need a qb that is quick from dead stop instead of fast. While errant passing can be fixed with a lot of practice, I'm worried that you can't fix a lack of quickness.

I'd like to convince myself that the perceived lack of quickness is because of his physical size making him look like he is accelerating more slowly than he truly is. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? If you agree, what kind of an offense do you design around someone like him?

    [/quote/]

When i see Green run it reminds me of Vince Young. Now i am not saying he is as good as Vince, but just the long strides. I think the long strides are decieving, it makes him look like he is moving slower than he really is. Also i love how strong Green is and how he is willing to run right through DB's

OU's defense is really good and i think added to Green not looking so green.

  12. It's sad a win over baylor is going to relieve you. Even if we perform well on offense it means nothing. We are subpar on offense and speical teams when we play a good team with a solid d. Until we show that we can compete with that, we are in the same place, a win over baylor just shows we are back to square one.

Its gotten to the point where this team has to literally take it one game at a time, if this team loses focus for a game then bad things will happen i.e. 8 turnovers.

So first and foremost lets beat the Bears

  13. the main purpose of the post was "we need to run the ball". I didnt see multiple threads on that subject so i didnt think i was beating a dead horse. Everyone else has there opinion so i thought i would briefly share mine, and i by no means wanted to talk about the QB situation on this thread.

Actually this sentiment has been mirrored in many many threads...

    My Bad

  15. No way am I killing puppies... The rest is fine, but man... puppies are so awesome.

Ok first of all Huskerinokieland's quote about rock, paper, scissors probably the funniest thing i have ever seen on here........."oh i thought paper would protect you, you a-hole" haha my stomach hurts

the second funniest think i have read on here is the punting kitties, cause it gives such a great visual image.

PS on this video i think the a-hole in the last scene thought that paper would protect him.......guess not

  16. I am sure someone is gonna want this moved, and if the mods want to move this to a different thread thats great. I just didnt want to burry this on one of those other threads cause i think these stats are important.

Baylor's defense is terrible and I just want to win a game, so please just run the ball. Baylor's D is ranked 91st in total defense giving up 401 yards per game and even worse they are 100th in rushing defense giving up 184 yards per game.

Its not like Baylor has been going up against some powerhouses offense's either. The only 2 teams Baylor has played that are in the top 50 in total offense are Oklahoma(29th) and Oklahoma St.(30th)

They have played 3 teams that rank in the top 50 rushing offenses:

    Iowa St.(16th)-rushed for 240 yards

    Ok. St.(27th)-rushed for 195 yards

    UConn(42nd)-rushed for 235 yards

So I guess the point of this post is Watson should come out and line up with a couple TE's, a FB and just run right at Baylor. If this does not happen then we might need to consider getting a new OC, or have our offensive staff take to a class on "taking teams will power" (taught by Dr. Osborne and special guest Jason Peter)

If Iowa St. can rush for 240 yards then we better be able to rush for over 200 yards, and if we do that then there is no reason we dont win, I dont care is they put Jim Ebke at QB, as long as we run it right down the Bear's throats

Having said all that i would like to see Green play cause he gives us the best chance to win going forward this season (just my opinion)

  17. All I know is that my pro team (San Francisco 49ers) and college team (Nebraksa Cornhuskers) have had mirror image seasons so far, including expectations, performance and injuries.

And last Sunday Mike Singletary pulled Shaun Hill out of a lifeless first half and replaced him with Alex Smith. Smith will be starting this Sunday.

So yes.....Cody Green will play this week and start the week after.

HA thats awesome, 49ers and Huskers are my teams also. I never thought about the similarities until now, and here is another one that probably is less significant for you.

At the begining of the year i was a big Zac Lee fan, and for the 49ers i was a Shaun Hill fan because i thought Alex Smith was a huge bust.

Now the 49ers give the Smith another shot and he performs (hopefully he has more than just 1 half of good football in him),

so maybe if we give Green a shot he will show us that he was worth all those stars that accompenied his name coming out of high school.
