  1. Alumni Association sends out FACEBOOK remonders:

    University of Nebraska Alumni

The Washington Huskies have sold out of their 11,000 ticket allotment for the Holiday Bowl and the Huskers haven't. Stand Up For Nebraska by getting your game tickets and pre-game huddle tickets at 1-888-353-1874. Go Big Red!

    Not good

I'll be there! We'll all stick together in all kinds of weather. Though I suppose it will be pretty great weather in San Diego. But you know what I mean.

How quickly we forget last year... It was cloudy all day, misted the entire first half, and we had light rain the entire second half. NOT bad by any stretch of the imagination... But sunny and warm it was not. :-)

I didn't forget. I was there. But last year's forecast doesn't affect this year's. And this year it is supposed to be partly cloudy and high in the mid 60s (though it will get chilly by kickoff). That's what happening in San Diego, now here's what's happening in your neck of the woods....

  3. What rumors are you talking about? Let's be clear that rumors and reports are different things, though both have the potential for being wrong. Reports are done by reputable journalists (insert ESPN slam here) that are running with their story because multiple sources close to the situation are telling them something, not because of some message board poster's uncle who washes the teams uniforms. Bo said he doesn't comment on rumors and innuendo, but these are legitimate reports that he has discussed the job with the Miami AD and has even displayed interest in it. I really don't think it's insecure or unreasonable to hold a discussion of these reports and the fact that Bo refuses to refute them. I'm not saying the sky is falling at all, but let's not act like this is the same thing as some anonymous poster starting a rumor. This is a real sports news story that merits discussion.

    :laughpound

You're funny. "Real" news story? C'mon! There are two dozen of these "stories" every year when coaches get fired. Each of them cite Coach A, Coach B, Coach C, and various "unnamed sources" that drive readers to websites or TV shows, nothing more. In the end some coach gets hired, and the other five mentioned were never really actively part of the story... but they sold newspapers, they put eyeballs on TV ads, and they put clicks on websites.

Get real. This is as much a "real" news story as anything I Bleed Red ever posted.

Seriously? Okay, I'll explain the difference between rumor and a legitimate news report. A rumor is something that has no real sources close to the story behind it and, as a result, no real reporters like Sipple go on record with it. A report, however, is based on multiple sources close to the situation, which is why sports reporters (like those who write for the Miami Herald) are willing to go on record with those stories. Just because every report does not end up being accurate does not mean that rumor and journalistic reporting are the same thing. I thought this was a pretty basic thing that everyone knew, but maybe our new message board culture doesn't get this distinction.

  4. We are the most insecure fan base in college football, aren't we? Some reporter in Miami writes some wholly bogus story about Bo and this board has a collective conniption fit.

While I've enjoyed skewering all the rumors, this has been a bizarre day. I love you guys, but frankly, sometimes this rumor stuff is trying even for me.

    Anyway.

    :)

  5. I don't believe he is leaving. I don't believe it at all. But, maybe he does want to go to the Big 10....eventually .... as the Ohio State coach. And he thinks that joining the Big 10 at another school would hurt that. :dunno Just something more to add fuel to the rumor fire. I made up this speculation on my own with no basis.

That's the fourth time I've heard that theory today. I think it's plausible, though I'm not losing any sleep over it either.

  6. Jeremy Crabtree said on USC today (in addition to saying that Bubba is the best high school football player he has ever seen) that word is Bubba has already quietly signed with Scott Boras in preparation for being drafted very high in the MLB draft. Not surprising since nobody expects him to actually come to Nebraska at this point, but if Boras is his agent, then perhaps this is NU's best chance at getting him. Hopefully Boras asks for the moon and never budges a penny. I'm focusing on Jamal though.

  7. Don't get too crazy guys. Just because he opens it up doesn't mean anything other then there are new options on the table and they need to be reviewed. I don't think we can assume he's gone until we here how his visits go.

When was the last time that a recruit opened up his recruitment and stuck with his original school?

Just saying. People jump way to easily on the "he's gone" bandwagon. I'll reserve judgment till the end of the year.

You're right that technically he's not "gone" until signing day, but I would put his odds this way: USC (90%), Nebraska (5%), Florida (5%). He just said that he really wants to stay in California and that he really hoped SC would offer him because playing for USC would be "big" since he grew up watching them. I have a feeling the coaching staff is moving forward as if they aren't getting him.

  8. I seriously doubt Lee will practice and am skeptical that any of those three will be practicing today. Remember that Bo said that Martinez "practiced" last week as well. What he means by that is that they will dress out and stretch with the team and do whatever they can with their injuries. In other words, Martinez will stand and throw, Lee will run around and Dennard will ride a bike on the sidelines.

  9. i got to say, i was impressed with him. he is a great qb, probably best in the conference. also, his receivers made some incredible receptions and plays. nonetheless, our defense was in lockdown mode and could not have done much better shutting down that offense.

Blaine is the better NFL prospect, but I'd take Robert Griffin in the college game any day of the week and twice on Saturday.

  10. Does this guy have any clue? Did I hear this no mind claim targeting on Merediths hit to Gabbert? Just goes to show how announcers try to put themselves into the middle of a game. Targeting on a pass rush...way to go Ed.

And what exactly was the "phantom" review called for? I did not hear anything?

Checking the spot, even though he was 4 yards past the first down line, but when Helu get's a horrible spot on his run, no review. F--- Dan Beebe!

:yeah :yeah :yeah :yeah :yeah :yeah :yeah :yeah :yeah :yeah :yeah How many effing times have we seen that this season, especially during conference play??? I'm not a conspiracy guy, but it's hard not to be with this $hizzle.

  11. If that was targeting and "dirty" then so should that Mizzou player leading with his helmet into Taylor's thigh and the Mizzou lineman driving Taylor's head into the ground. We see tons of concussions from head-to-ground contact, so why isn't Eddie going off on that? Maybe because that will show that the real problem is the lack of helmet padding, not hits.
