  1. Not sure the horse-collar call was correct also. The rule states that the runner has to be pulled to the ground, Astance let go before that and the tackle was made by someone else. Very questionable.

The BCS came up with that idea to make sure TEXAS wins the game. That and all the other bad calls against the Huskers. They told the refs to make sure TEXAS won the game because they didn't want TCU in the championship game. Itt's true. I read all about it and it makes sense if you really think about it...
  2. just a thought i had......i personally think that both Lee and Green are FAR better qbs than they have shown this season because our OLINE is the actual problem. for proof look at the sun belt games, when given time to pass by the oline, both Lee and Green were completing passes at a high rate. Especially Lee who was completing better than 70%.

Now the reason i ask if spano was rushed for a reason is because, even though i think our other qbs are at least average, Spano was that much better a qb than both Lee and Green and the coaches knew that and tried to get him up to speed as quickly as possible because they knew what our qb situation looked like. To me it is obvious from recruiting videos that Spano has by far the best combination on passing and rushing abilities. He is mobile and has a good arm and with a line like we have that is exactly what you need.

i will be the first to say that i think if he heals, SPANO WILL BE THE STARTER NEXT SEASON. not lee and not green.

    JMHO....discuss!!!!!!

I said a long time ago Spano should start RIGHT NOW. I hope he starts against ARIZONA although that game really doesn't mean anything. But it would be some good pracitice for him for next year...
  3. I don't know if this has been discussed before but what about the Pistol Offense for Nebraska? This year Nevada has had 3 1000 yard rushers (first time ever) and have done reasonably well in every year that it's been used (at least I think, haven't done the research but I think they haven't finished with a record under .500).

I'm just throwing this out there for something to discuss (though there really isn't a shortage of things this week).

Yeah let's run a pistol offense that shoots blanks thanks to Watson !!!!! :rollin:rollin:rollin

    A pistol offense with NO BULLETS !!! That's funny !! :rollin:rollin:rollin
  5. So Im gona piss some fans off here but

Im sick of the constant attacks on Watson,

First of all do we remember how it was our offense last year that carried us?

second do we remember how Saban (yes the coach who managed to take the Crimson tide back to the promise land in just 3 years) went directly after Watson for his offensive coordinator and offered double his salary.

third, Tom Osborne recommended to Pelini to keep only Watson and Gilmore from the Callahan coaching staff

fourth, Osborne and Pelini have both been nothing but supportive and encouraging of Watson

and fifth he can recruit (and if we do get rid of him there goes Gabbert, and maybe our hopes for Andrew Green next year)

Our two biggest problems this year were depth at the offensive line and experience and depth at the Quarterback position.

Lee would probably not have been the starter if Witt never transfered, and Green would have recieved a red shirt. Were forgetting how hard it is to start as a freshman, especially for an offense whose play book is about a half a foot thick.

People have forgotten how much depth we have lost at the QB position this year, Witt transfered, Spano was sidelined to ACL problems and that left us with a QB who only had 2 pass attempts all of last season, a QB fresh outa highschool, and LB converted to QB because we were so lacking in depth and he played the position in highschool.

Throw on top of that a battered offensive line (Burkes was a huge loss) of Callahan's last and lowly rated recruits, who give our QBs little protection, and you have a major problem.

People seem to be forgetting how our offensive line has been the root of most of our offensive failure. Helu has been battered from the process (and also probably because we over rode him), Lee (who can't make decent decisions to begin with) has no time, and our backs have no holes. We are such a one dimensional offense it ridiculous!

But Cotton is already bringing in the big boys, we have Arod coming this next year and Moore the year after that

So don't do for Watson's throat just yet, give him another year or 2 before we do anything, this year was a hard deck to play with.

If we continually suck on offense the next few years, the Il change my mind

Osborne was WRONG WRONG WRONG about Watson!! Way WRONG!!!
  6. I'm new to the board but had to mention this since no one else has. Texas has 30-40 players on the field before the kick goes through the uprights. Why wasn't there an illegal participation penalty called. This should have been a 15 yard penalty making the attempt 61 yards. Go to youtube & watch the kick, pretty much as the ball is snapped, there are players & coaches on the field. By the time the ball actually goes through the uprights, there are 30-40 players/coaches on the field. This would be called at any other time during a game, it should be called at the end as well. The officials got the 1 second left correct but they clearly blew this one. Some of the players even run right past the sideline official. The Big 12 can't dispute this like they can the 1 second. Where is the outrage at this game changing non-call???? :dunno

Because the BCS would not allow such a penalty. Don't you know they control everything that goes on in college football. No doubt the BCS pays the refs to have the games end the right way for them...
  7. Thinks they will beat us because we have a bad offense- true, and because our defense only wins because of turnovers-false. Our defense obviously doesn't win just because of turnovers. We win because we have an amazing D-line, but you all know that so im not going into detail, I think their fans are gonna be surprised by our D-line if they only think that we win cause of turnovers

I heard this was going to be called the " who cares " bowl. Just like all the other bowl games. The only bowl that means crap is Texas vs Alabama... :wasted:wasted
  8. We really, really need to get out of this conference! Is there any way to get this process started quickly? A petition or what?

I'm not saying we completely lost to Texas because of biases because our offense sucked, but you cannot tell me there is not biases toward Texas and the South Division teams.

Texas people are crooked as hell and there is money being traded and pushed all over down there. They have many, many, many very rich people in the state compared to our few. We cannot keep up with the amount of payoffs they can make.

Even Osborne has said he is worried about this conference being too controlled by southern influences. I think we need an exit strategy and we need to get to implementing it soon!

I know the Little 11 would be the obvious choice and we could finally give them their 12th team to make a new conference, but I believe the SEC would also be a possibility. There are a couple teams I'm sure they wouldn't mind getting rid of(Kentucky or Vandy).

Either way, we have to get out of this crooked BS Big 12 southern biased conference. There is too much money and power in the south to get a fair shake.

If we don't change conferences then it needs to be looked at a way to reallign the conference. Split up the Texas teams and OU and OKie state into different divisions so you will have 2 Texas teams and 1 Oklahoma team in each division.

Yes, our offense sucks and probably was more to blame for the loss than anything, but the Big 12 conference also sucks and I for one am sick of it and its BS!!!

They should re-start the BIG 8 again and ####can the BIG XII. That way we would play Oklahoma every year. Texas could start their own conference with TCU and SMU joining in. Heck they could even call it the BIG LONGHORN conference or something like that. :horns2:horns2:horns2
  9. (I know its to early to look at next season but i am avoiding studying and this gives me something to do)

Well there is more than one reason why i am excited:

First of all Suh is gonna be in NY and he won the first of many awards to come tonight, Second my classes got cancelled because of the pending blizzard that is sweeping across NE.

And finally the main reason, reading some of the post talking about next year has gotten me thinking and i am very, very, very excited for next year and the years to come.

What the Pelini's brothers (and the rest of this defensive staff) have done should just about qualify as a miracle. I still vividly remember our defense from two years ago playing an average Ok. St. team in Lincoln. Watching that group of "pinkshirts" run around trying to tackle someone was like watching a bunch of overweight 45 year old Irish men on St. Patty's day trying to catch a Leprechaun. They made OSU look like they had Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin and Reggie Bush all suited up that day. Very depressing

Now two years later the most exciting offense play for me is an Alex Henery Punt, cause i know i get to watch our D-line just manhandle someone and maybe our defense will score a TD for us.

What makes next year and into the future so exciting is now going into every year i beleive we will be favored to win the Big XII north and we will have a shot at getting to the NC game a lot of those years.

I look at next year and get pretty excited, and the only thing that makes me second guess myself is our offense. If (and thats a big If) our offense can get back to respectability i think we have a good shot at being undeafeated going into the Big XII title game next year and we win that game, we should be in the NC game. Look at our schedule:

09/04 Western Kentucky @ Lincoln- not worried

09/11 Idaho @ Lincoln- not worried

09/18 Washington @ Seattle- No Jake Locker and we play good on the rode=not to worried

09/25 South Dakota St. @ Lincoln- former DII school so not worried

10/02 #Kansas State @ Manhattan- This scares me a little but i still think we can out talent them

10/16 #Texas @ Lincoln- Our players (and coaches) will be out for blood, its in Lincoln, McCoy, Shipley, 3 O-linemen, 2 D-linemen, the leading tackler on the team will all graduate, and its about time we beat texas

10/23 #Oklahoma State @ Stillwater- This game scares me a little cause i think the Big XII north will come down to the Missouri game and NU might over look Okie St, but the fact that OSU loses Robinson, Tolston, Bryant, 3 O-linemen and 9 of the 11 starters on D i think we win this game

10/30 #Missouri @ Lincoln- This game i think will decided the Big XII north and Misouri was a young this year, so i think they will have a decent team next year. The game is in lincoln though and our D will be to much for the Missour offense.....so we win

11/06 #Iowa State @ Ames- Dont turn the ball over 8 times and win this game

11/13 #Kansas @ Lincoln- No Reesing or Meier and i would not be surprised to see Briscoe leave early, games in lincoln and i think we win.

11/20 #Texas A&M @ College Sta.- They have a good QB but lose 3 O-linemen, i think our defense is too much to handle = win

11/26* #Colorado @ Lincoln- We hate them they hate us, they suck so we win

If this all lines up the way i would like, then we would be going up against OU (probably) in the Big XII championship and eventhough OU will be a much better team next year, its still just one game and anything can happen.

Now all of this hinges on the assumption that our offense improves a lot next year. You never know what can happen from year to year. I mean who here thought we would have the best defense in the nation this year after that debacle under Callahan.

On the bright side, we every single offensive starter back next year minus Jacob Hickman and he should be replaced nicely by Mike Caputo. We will need a few players to step up in replace a few senoirs on defense like Suh (unreplaceable), Dillard, both safeties and Turner. I think we have the guys to do it though.

We have some great your LB's to replace Dillard, Crick and Steinkuhler i think can hold up the middle, Cameron Meredith i think is gonna be a stud at D-end, and in the secondary P.J. Smith fills Asante's shoes nicely and Hagg will step in at free safety

Playing all those WEENIE teams before the Big XII games is why Nebraska can't win big games. If they played some half decent competion before the Big XII it would prepare them better. Of course Doc Sad Sack Sadler is way way worse the way he schedules WEENIES...
  10. Just throwing out a hypothetical . . . I'm not claiming to know something I don't.

Why not try a little wildcat with Burkhead? He played QB (as well as nearly every other position) in high school last year. He's clearly a running threat. He's a smart football player who isn't intimidated by playing in the spotlight. I think he'd be less rattled in the backfield than Lee who simply plays like he is terrified. Thoughts?

Because Burkhead is not very good that's why.
  11. Not sure if this has been posted yet. Article from Fox Sports is below. Lots of people coming up to me because they know I am a Husker fan in So. CA asking for my reaction to the game. I would say about 80% of the people I talk to think we won and got jobbed. Yes, people want to talk about our horrible plays kicking the ball out of bounds and the horse collar (yes, I agree those were horrible plays and I was screaming when we did them). At that time I thought we were giving the game away. But then you know what? Texas gave the game back by horrible clock management and lost the game...it was over...clock at 0:00. Everyone expected Texas to win because they were within FG...but you know what they are human and made a bad play just like we had done earlier in the drive. No one wants to talk about that now...it was the biggest meltdown in clock management I have ever seen! But we all know what happened...refs bailed them out. I really have never had anything against Texas (honestly) and have never much liked Alabama...but if Alabama and Texas goes down, I hope Alabama completely destroys them.

    Amen to this article.

    Link:

The voters should do what the Big 12 game officials didn't have the guts to do.

That is, put Texas Christian (or Cincinnati, for that matter) into the BCS national championship game.

It's too bad it won't happen. The referees have an excuse: They work for the Big 12 Conference, which desperately needed Texas to avoid an upset by Nebraska.

The voters have no excuse. They still get to choose among undefeated teams to put in the national championship game against Alabama. But chances are, they will choose Texas.

Four times over the years, the Big 12 has screwed itself out of the national title game with a huge upset in the conference championship game. They weren't going to allow that to happen again, no matter how dominant Ndamukong Suh was for Nebraska.

Look, I don't hate the Longhorns. And I don't root for TCU, or Cincinnati ... or Nebraska. I don't hate the BCS, and I don't necessarily even crave a playoff tournament.

But that ending of the Big 12 championship game was just wrong.

Here's exactly what happened: There were 24 incomplete passes in the Texas-Nebraska game. On every one of them — every single one (I know, I went back and checked in slow motion) — the game clock ticked off that second, and sometimes another. That's how it always works in this and every other game: There's a bit of a human element (the eye sending the message to the brain, the brain relaying it to the finger on the clock button, the electronic impulses prompting the clock to stop).

And so, when Colt McCoy inexplicably decided to run a play with six seconds remaining instead of calling timeout or, well, showing any sense of urgency, he rolled out and threw the ball away, way out of bounds, as the clock ticked down to 0:00.

Nebraska rushed the field, Bo Pellini's team seemingly in possession of a sensational 12-10 triumph.

But since Texas coach Mack Brown wanted a second placed back on the clock, and because the Big 12 wanted to have a second placed back on the clock, and because all of the six major BCS conferences HAD TO HAVE a second placed back on the clock, and because the referees figured they might never have a chance to work for the league ever again if they do this wrong ... that's how it went.

So, unlike every other similar play in the game, the officials overruled the clock and put 0:01 back up on the scoreboard, and Texas ran the field goal team out there and Hunter Lawrence kicked it through.

So, since the refs felt the need to overrule the clock, the voters can always overrule the game officials. It ain't right: Texas has no business being in the title game.

The BCS ( Bowl Crap System ) did not want TCU in the national championship game. That's why the refs called that pass interference call on the Huskers that was NOT pass interference. That was enough penalty yardage to give the Longhorns the field goal for the win. So don't blame it on Texas or Mack Brown or anything else. The game was rigged by the BCS because of BIG MONEY. Maybe they should call the BCS for what it really is all about. BOWL CASH SYSTEM... :horns2:horns2:horns2
  12. What was with BO screaming and yelling at Lee on the sidelines all about ? I gotta say sometimes I think BO acts a bit insane sometimes when he makes an ### out of himself like that. Was he yelling because Lee didn't get a 1st down ? If that was the case why doesn't BO scream, yell and throw stuff at Cotton, the offensive line and Watson for doing a crappy job on offense. BO is always screaming and yelling at somebody all game long. Does he think this doesn't affect his players? They're probably so scared they might make a tiny mistake that they really can't even play right figuring they will get their ### chewed off by BO. And he is always SCREAMING at the refs like some kind of man possesed or something. You gotta figure the refs all hate his guts and they will never give him a break. But it's more about the players getting yelled at and cussed out. Didn't Mangino get fired for the same crap or am I wrong? I don't think so. His ranting is affecting the offense. That's probably why they suck. Osborne should tell BO to stop all the cussing and screaming and keep his mind on the business of winning the game. His constant SCREAMING is his way of blaming the players for screwing up and NOT BLAMING HIMSELF FOR ANYTHING when things go bad...

  13. If we had a qb we would be 11-1 this year dont blame watson for the lack of talent at qb, nu just needs to go and get a top qb. so impressed with the d yesterday I think Suh is the best i've ever seen on d.

Hey Green, Nebraska needs a new quarterback, new running backs, new recievers, new offensive line and mostly new coaches who have anything to do with trying to run an offense. And if Osborne won't hire new guys we need a new A.D. also. And if a new A.D. won't do it we need new people at the top of the University administration...
  14. jimmy clausen was dreadful his freshman season. now he's going to be the highest QB drafted in the NFL this year. even his sophomore season wasn't good until he lit up hawaii.

matt barkley is struggling greatly right now.

neither of these guys have to learn 300-play playbooks (still have no idea why watson has to do this). next year the offense will be fine. niles paul is emerging as a playmaker on an offense with no others. brandon kinnie is an emerging star. and to think that these two may not be our best receivers! (see antonio bell, who will be an absolute beast) maybe curtis carter can even compete. we'll have 3 playmakers at receiver next season, as long as we have the QB to get them the ball, and Cody will be that man.

roy helu will be a monster if he stays healthy (big if though). burkhead will be a solid number 2. dontrayevous is going to be good too.

if shawn watson remembers about the position known as the Tight End (it's a bigger receiver who helps the offensive line with blocking too), we have Mike McNeill and Chase Harper.

let's cross our fingers the o-line is better. Smith had a decent year, and he returns. Keith Williams is pretty solid and he returns. Let's hope Caputo steps up. Ricky Henry (minus bonehead penalties) is very good. we need an answer at right tackle, but we redshirted some supposedly pretty good kids this year.

our offense could be very good next season. Cody Green throwing to Niles Paul, Brandon Kinnie, Antonio Bell, Mike McNeill, and Chase Harper. Green handing it off to Helu, Burkhead, and Tray. We just need that o-line to step up.

defensively, we obviously lose Suh, Turner, Dillard, Asante, and O'Hanlon. Suh is irreplaceable (what if Bo coached him for four years). Turner was solid but not incredible. Dillard will be greatly missed. Asante's personal fouls in the second half of the season has trumped his incredible play. O'Hanlon, tough kid with great heart to bounce back from Va Tech, but everyone knows he's replaceable.

We return Allen, Crick, Hagg, Gomes, Prince, Dennard, West, then for 4-3 purposes, Fisher and Compton. Our d-line will be our biggest downgrade, but still very good with Meredith, Allen, and Ankrah competing for the 2 end spots. (my sources have told me that Ankrah has been practicing with the number one defense recently, obviously not playing due to his redshirt). Crick and Baker in the middle with T-Mo as a darkhorse for starting.

Linebackers, well we usually only use one or two, and i'm sure players will step up between Compton, E-Mart, Chris Williams, and i guess Fisher...

Secondary, only question mark is safety. We hopefully get Rickey back, but we still will have P.J. Smith and Dijon Washington, and maybe Corey Cooper :)

Our defense will be equal to this years IMO even without Suh. The offense has potential to be in the top 30 rather than the top 100. we still have some kid named Alex Henery. and our schedule stacks up favorably. I'm predicting an undefeated season, winning the Big XII championship, and going to the National Championship vs either Bama or USC.

The offense will suck next year and as long as Watson coaches at Nebraska. He is the most worthless offensive coach in the land...
  15. after losing on a last second field goal against a team in the BCS National Championship at a neutral site (basically a home game for Texas). if voters were intelligent, we'd move up a few spots in the rankings rather than possibly drop out of them altogether

The only ranking that means a damn thing is the last one...
  16. I don't want this turning into a discussion about his compentency or lack thereof...that's been hashed far too many times already. Nor do I want this turning into a discussion about how Cody Green should have started. Instead, I noticed something tonight that has me a little perplexed. Remember when Zac ran the ball and tried to pick up the 1st down only to come up short about 6"? Remember Bo getting a case of the ass on him once Zac got to the sideline? Did you notice Lee's response? He seemed to keep walking away from Bo as if he didn't really care what Bo had to say? He was more concerned with looking up a the video board and finding a seat. Leads me to think that Zac is a little bit of an egotist maybe?

I thought there were 11 guys on the offense. Maybe they changed it to just 1 guy and that 1 guy was Zac Lee. Sorry I missed the rule change. If that's the case then yeah it's all on Lee...
  17. The run game should establish the pass. Our backs should not have to scramble for their lives to gain 1+ yard. The Coaching staff needs to find anyone with the heart to get a push and I am willing to bet they can find them in this very state. These guys don't move anyone, they don't scare anyone and it is a joke and has been for a long time when considering the run.

    GBR.

Osborne should just take over the offense since it has become the absolute joke of the country. Mushberger and that other goof were laughing all night about it. Osborne should kick Watson out of the state and simply take over. What is there in the rules that says he friggin can't coach the offense and be athletic director? Show me where it says he can't do that.
  18. I saw an article that said Arizona accepted a bid to the Holiday Bowl, which we will most likely end up in. I can't wait to see what the Pelini's draw up for a defense with a month of preparation.

And I can't wait for Watson to devise a completely worthless game plan for his "no-offense" so the huskers can lose again. But then again, a game plan for Watson is easy since he NEVER FREAKING HAS ONE !!!
  19. I am a Nebraska fan living in Tri Cities, Washington. My dad is from Taylor, Nebraska and he is a die hard Husker fan. I've always been a fan, though admittedly I haven't followed the Huskers all that closely over the past few years.

I saw a thread earlier about needing Gabbert... My question is, are expectations pretty low for Cody Green? What does he need to work on? He was highly touted coming out of HS, but it seems that maybe not a lot of people are excited about the possibility of him being the starter next year...

Thanks for any opinions... I'm just wanting to get back in the loop!

Green is a stiff. That's football slang for saying he pretty much sucks...
  20. If the University of Nebraska or Tom Osborne or whoever hired that loser Watson does not get rid of him immediately, then the Huskers will suck forever. What is wrong with the people in charge? Can't they see Watson has absolutely NO CLUE at all as to what the hell he is doing ? He could not coach a high school team for cripe sakes. He will be the ruination of the Huskers...

  21. I'd like an option that says "watson should go, not sure about the rest".

I've seen some pretty bad offenses. I jsut don't think the offense side of the ball is coached properly enough to get is to the big dance, and that's obviously where we want to be.

I don't think watson is the man for the job.

Watson should drive a pizza delivery car. Or maybe try to sell shoes. Or maybe drive a taxi. Or he could sell crap on T.V. like useless exercise stuff. Or mow grass and trim bushes. There's a lot of stuff he could do instead of TRY to coach football...
