Bo Pelini considers Nebraska's game against Colorado a rivalry game, and says the Huskers won't be looking ahead to the Big 12 Championship against Texas on Dec. 5.

 

Nebraska (8-3, 5-2 Big 12) travels to Colorado (3-8, 2-5) on Friday. The game begins at 2:30 p.m. on ABC.

 

Nebraska has won six of the past eight meetings in Boulder, but did lose in its last trip to Folsom Field in 2007.

 

In part, Pelini decides what a rivalry game is based on the fans.

 

“I know this is a special game to our fans and to Colorado fans,” Pelini said Monday during his weekly news conference. “The two states are close together and this game is important to our fans in western Nebraska, and they want bragging rights. They make a lot of sacrifices driving a long way to see us play, and we’ve got to have their back this week.”

 

Maybe this is just coach-speak, trying to maintain focus. But this makes me want to hurl. It's like-- wait... hang on... OH GOD

Seriously - that was another frustrating game to watch. I don't know if it's the play-calling or the quarterback or the O-line, but goodness, we are not a good offensive ball club.

 

 

Sorry to be a sour-puss, but that was a pretty unsatisfying victory. Is there anything that can be done in the next two weeks to help this offense?

I thought the game was great. I got in a nice long nap while they were trying to play a game of football. Really that had to be the most boring game I ever saw. When I wasn't napping that is .

Look, we won ok? Im honestly surprised at how many fans say our offense was horrible. Look how they were today and last week compared to the games before those. I'd say they've played pretty good the past 2 weeks, especially today. Honestly people.

WOW we got as many points against K-State as Massachusetts did. 17 Friggen points. Now I don't feel as bad because we are as good as Massachusets !! Awesome !! Is that husker offensive good or what ??

Okay I'm sorry but, how many points you put up against a team doesn't compare you to a team that beat the same team by the same amount of points. K-state's D got better as the year progressed. And plus as you could tell, we werent trying to run the score up on them. As long as we had our defense keeping them from scoring we didn't need to score. Seriously, stop b!tch!ng.

They did not run up the score because they couldn't run up the score thanks to Watson not calling the right plays as he always does...

Yes, it does matter, we need to beat them so they shut their mouths.

It totally amazes me how nobody is happy about the little progress that we DID make the last couple weeks or so. Yeah, there are still mistakes, but it is better. Everyone forgets that this is really Lee's first season of being a starter. Everyone also forgets that all these coaches are still dealing with recruits that 3/4 of which was really recruited under Callahan.

 

Watson can only TRY and figure out the best offensive scheme for the personnel that he has.

 

I wish everyone would just settle down, and realize that we still have a ways to go. It really amazes me that we are where we are at this point. People seem to have short memories to what it was like 2 years ago at this time.

 

Yeah, we are not that good, especially on offense - but it could be a whole lot worse people.

I don't care what anybody says I say Watson must be fired right now. He is ruining the program. Lee is doing good but if K-Sate hadn't of killed themselves with penalties, they would have kicked the huskers butts because of our crappy offensive plays by Watson. I can see the huskers getting 0 points against Texas because of our lousy offense.

And you could do better? Watson can only work with what he has to work with...I am sure that Watson and Bo would love for you to come in and have a sit down so that you could tell them everything they are doing wrong and suggest what they could do to fix it. I bet you might even get a job if it worked.

Nebraska will never overtake the Horns as Oklahoma's main rival as far as the Sooners look at it. To many kids from Texas on each squad. But as far as the Husker fans see it the Sooners are our biggest rival because of the history. It's a respect deal and we get upset when some other fan base tries to imagine that we consider them as our main rival. Nobody considers Colorado a rival. Maybe CSU because it's instate. I do have to admit that there is some hatred for Colorado but not a lot of respect. What's to respect?

 

You sort of miss the point and it is one that I have been stating for some time now, it is irrelevant if you think CU is not your rival, for me Nebraska is mine, it is irrelevant that OU does not consider Nebraska their rival, 56% of your fans believe they are. A rivalry can whatever team you want it to be.

But are any of those 30 other threads suggesting an actual replacement? I'm being serious, why not look into hiring this guy (especially considering Mangino may get fired)? I was impressed with the way Kansas' O-Line (& I doubt Kansas' O-Line recruits are any better than ours) played against our D-Line. They looked very well coached. Our offensive line (coached by Barney Cotton), on the other hand, is undisciplined & missed blocking assignments seem to have become the norm

You are dead on right. The way I look at it is Nebraska will never win a national championship as long as Watson and Cotton are coaching here. The huskers will be average at best. But with Coach Mangino's great knowledge of the game, especially offense, we could go to the top in 2 or 3 years with some halfway decent recruiting. Mangino forgot more about football than either Watson or Cotton will EVER know...

I don't blame fans for thinking your team has a chance in every game. I remember plenty of Husker fans whom thought we could go into Norman and win last year.

 

But living down here in Kansas City and reading the K-State boards has truly blown me away with amazement. Cat fans think they're going to win this weekend in Lincoln. It's stunning. The prevailing attitude about the Mizzou game was "the Cats were just looking ahead."

 

I currently have about 6 wagers on the table with co-workers. I don't even have to give them any points. These wagers are straight up. It's unbelievable.

 

Here's the reality Cat fan:

 

- You have a one dimensional offense.

- Your passing game is non-existent

- Your defense has surrendered more points than you've scored.

- You're coming to Lincoln for a night game

- Nebraska has tons of momentum after 3 straight wins.

- It's senior night.

 

Do the Huskers still have offensive issues? Sure we do. We have plenty of limitations, but none of that will matter on Saturday night.
