  1. Not to be critical, but if you were going to leave why would you worry about breaking a rule in your contract? It also states that Bo cannot speak directly or indirectly, but it doesn't say a word about Bo's agent.

    Easy. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

  2. Fair enough.

But it does not appear to be the kind of thing that Bo is incapable of squashing right away by just taking his name out of the running. This is pretty different from answering injury questions about a player, IMO, and just the damaging effects of having this over the airwaves should be apparent. Think about how any competing school will spin this to Tevin Mitchell or Charles Jackson. I'm not sure how I feel about the 'no comment' policy. That's usually something to say when there is something but you don't want to really elaborate about it. And when it is potentially damaging to let speculation continue or stories to keep going around, you squash it, like Bo squashed the Taylor rumors. He can easily say "No, I'm committed to Nebraska this year and I'm not going to be in the running for this job." But given the chance, he went the no comment route.

This may just be completely off base, but it seems that this reporting is continuing to happen because they are letting it happen. We'll see what happens in the next few days though. I could be wrong. Regardless of that, I am worried about the effects.

You mean the way Nick Saban did when he said "I'm not going to be the coach at Alabama"?

  3. I've watched Von play for 2 years, and the man is a beast. Unfortunately, stats don't tell the whole story. Most Husker fans will point to Prince's mediocre stats and say they don't tell the whole story because QB's don't throw towards him. This is a legitimate point.

Yes, Von was injured for the first half of the season. He did not start out very well, but came on strong about halfway through the season, right around conference play starting up. His stats again, don't tell the whole story. The man is a disruptive force in the backfield. It's what he does and, I feel like a broken record, has to be accounted for on every play. It's one of the reasons he's so impactful as a defender.

And for the record, no reason for you to get snippy and condescending. I'm just defending my player and why I think he should be sharing the award with Prince.

And maybe watching Miller and being an Aggie fan, you're inclined to overrate what he's done. I don't know, but I think it's possible. As for Prince's stats, he had no picks this year, but he was third in the country in pass breakups even with the few passes that were sent his way. I'm not saying Miller isn't a good player, but he didn't have the year most people expected him to from a sack standpoint. I guess I don't see the point in complaining, I certainly hope Nebraska fans aren't on an Oklahoma board complaining that the AP gave DPOY to Beal.

And for the record, you started getting snippy with this:

You know who else knew "he didn't do anything for the first half of the season?" the 51 panelists for the BEST LINEBACKER IN THE NATION AWARD. Don't give me that crap.
  4. Miller did nothing for the first half of the season. I don't care that he was injured, it has to be taken into account. Prince was out there for every single snap on defense shutting down WRs.

You know who else knew "he didn't do anything for the first half of the season?" the 51 panelists for the BEST LINEBACKER IN THE NATION AWARD. Don't give me that crap. MAn is an absolute beast, and again, I'm not claiming he should be DPOY INSTEAD of Prince. I'm saying with his presence, it should have been a shared award.

No need to get your little panties in a twist. Who cares what the Butkus award voters did? Alex Henery wasn't even a finalist for the Groza award behind some morons who couldn't kick extra points. It's asinine. Miller's stats for the first 6 games. Stephen F. Austin-1 assisted tackle; La Tech-2 assisted tackles; FIU-3 solo tackles; OSU-1 solo 1 assisted tackle 1 fumble recovery; Arkansas (finally something!)- 6 tackles, 3 for loss, 1 sack; Missouri- 6 tackles, 1 sack. So for the first half of the season he had 2 sacks and 20 tackles Would you like me to post what Lavonte David did over that time? Or Jeremy Beal? Or even Jared Crick?

I'm gonna go with....not playing on a sprained ankle?

Regardless, this thread was obviously a waste with posters like you. I get it, you are so blindly loyal to your players you won't see past it and listen to other arguments. Fact is, Von Miller just won an award for the best Linebacker in the Country. Makes sense he should be at least sharing the award for best defender in the conference.

So you've now given up your argument that he actually did something over the first half of the season? Good, that's progress. You're the one being blindly loyal here. I've posted what Miller ACTUALLY DID. All you have is the same vague and unprovable "oh he impacts every play" BS that Yankee fans like to trot out when talking about Derek Jeter. The facts don't back up your argument. You were right about one thing though, this thread is a waste, because you're wrong.

  5. Miller did nothing for the first half of the season. I don't care that he was injured, it has to be taken into account. Prince was out there for every single snap on defense shutting down WRs.

  6. He did, and he had a pretty good argument especially for Arkansas. Why stay in a conference where you'll probably always be second fiddle when you could be top dog? Boise State would cause a lot of geographic problems.

Arkansas is going to be top dog over Oklahoma and Texas? I'd like some of what you're having.

  7. Carl can be on their radar all they want - he's not going to take that gig unless his butt is going to get fired here.

Why not? He wouldn't take a head coaching position?

If Clemson goes looking in the next year or so, I hope he's on our list.

He wouldn't take THAT head coaching position. Going to a Sun Belt team is a lose-lose proposition, IMO.

  8. We're getting the lion's share of bad press for two reasons: One, we're one of the three flagship schools in this conference, and Two, because we're in the first wave to leave.

A lot of future anger depends on what happens with conference expansion next year. We're far from done with that process, and we may be simply the first stage in the eventual destruction of the Big XII. As other teams leave we'll see some rancor towards them, but my guess is they won't garner nearly as much angst as Nebraska, for the reasons cited above.

Missouri and Texas A&M are the two most likely schools to jump ship next. If/when they leave it won't carry as big of a splash because they're not as crucial to the cache of the Big XII as Nebraska, the "novelty factor" of leaving the conference will be over with Nebraska and Colorado already leaving, and their departures will most likely signal the death knell of the conference – something already on the back of everyone's mind, anyway.

Certainly there will be slings and arrows cast by the Texas media at any freshly departing school next year, or at any school that appears to fail to toe the party line, but it won't be nearly as bad as what we've faced. They're largely venting the contents of their spleens at us, and won't have the interest or energy to devote to anyone else leaving.

Not to mention that any false step, and adversity Nebraska faces next year will still make headlines across the dregs of the Big XII, as they attempt to make themselves feel better by celebrating our troubles.

Sorry knapp, but you're dead wrong. I quote our good friend down at the Star: "Send Nebraska to the Big Ten, or whatever name E. Gordon Gee decides to slap upon that league, with a big fat reminder that their Big 12 legacy was never all that impressive and they will barely be missed at all."

See? All that vitriol emanates from a detached and aloof sort of indifference. It makes perfect sense!

I guess I don't see how that obviates what I wrote...?

I do believe he's being sarcastic.

  9. I have NO source...link...etc.... in fact this is just my opinion based on absolutely nothing

Actually, from my coaching experience and dealing with many athletic injuries (which obvioulsy makes me an expert  )........... if the turf toe is truly what is bothering him, you can pretty much not only count him out of this game, but list him at 50-50 at best for bowl game. I am not sure how many "board posters" realize how many running backs actually miss 5-6 games or more with "turf toe".... Taylor is a running back playing qb...

Plus, I will give this rumor a little credit. On 1620 USC, they were visiting with a Vegas guru and said that the line on the game went up almost 2 pts today. Now OU favored by nearly 6 or more. That is a HUGE jump as far as Vegas is concerned. When they asked the guru what could make the spread jump that much in a day, he mentioned that it "could be" because of the rumors/knowledge of Taylor NOT playing. He said Taylor not playing would definitely be worthy of a 2-3 pt swing.

In 97 Ahman Green had turf toe and played all year. There are many levels. Not unlike a Led Zeppelin album cover.

I just hope this means Watson skews the plan to run right at them, and not sideways.

Ahman's turf toe was actually a broken fibula. Looks like Bo isn't the only coach to not be totally forthcoming about injuries, eh?

  10. The cell phone thing isn't Bo's policy. It's an NCAA policy. They are hyper-sensitive about gambling and if someone had inside info about an injury, say at halftime, it could make a huge difference when betting the second half line. Hell, when I was in law school, we had an NCAA representative come in to talk to my sports law class about gambling and sports and they have all sorts of stuff made with their little "Don't Bet on It" saying. I got a pen, a bunch of literature, one of those little string backpacks, and some other stuff.

  11. We all love the Huskers, we are Husker fans we see things differently than the media. Just like all fans, ESPN hates them.

The team needs to win the games, if we do not win certain games we fall from grace, we win those games we are the big deal, see Oregon. As far as I am concerned they have beaten no one other than Stanford who has beaten no one period. You win, you get the goodies, does not matter who you beat, see TCU.

What have you done for me lately. That is college football.

You will have to learn to deal with it or you are never going to be happy.

I am proud of our team, they have given all they have, done the best they could, showed a little short on a couple of games, but it could be like it was a few years ago. I will take two losses or three over what we had. The sun will come up tomorrow on a 9-2 team, that is headed to a pretty good bowl game. That makes me happy.

I am sure the sun will come up on a 9-2 team, but we are a 10-2 team :)
