  1. Anyone blaming West on that play obviously doesn't understand how a cover 2 zone defense works. As much as it sucked, it didn't cost us the game. The horrible pass rush on the touchdown is what did. Or maybe that penalty that cost us yards AND time on the second to last play of the game. All in all, we played a horrible game in regards to our pass offense, and still almost won. If Zac Lee can get back on his horse, I'm pretty confident in our team, and honestly think we could win out.

    :yeah

Ward earns No. 3 RB spot

    Posted by: Steve Sipple

Roy Helu Jr. and Rex Burkhead are Nebraska's top two running backs, hands down. We know that.

As for No. 3, running backs coach Tim Beck gives redshirt freshman Lester Ward a slight edge over sophomores Austin Jones and Marcus Mendoza.

"I think Lester's a little ahead," Beck said. "He's a little more consistent in his play."

"A lot of things will depend on the situation," Beck added. "Lester Ward and A.J. Jones are probably a little ahead of Marcus right now, just because there's still a couple things Marcus needs to do to detail up his game a little bit."

Mendoza spent the spring practicing at wideout before moving to RB on Aug. 21. "It's going to take him some time," Beck said.

  4. If all this is the case then why was a scholarship offered to the player. Prior to a scholarship being offered a player would get an opportunity to talk to staff members and if these issues were there it would be my hope that a scholarship would not be offered.

That is why visits are set up. Not only is it for the player to get familiar with the school and the coaching staff, but the coaching staff gets a chance to meet the player in person. Some character traits are better defined in person rather than on the phone or word of mouth from their high school coach . That is why schools will sometimes cool on a player that at one time they were high on.

  5. Scout: "Call this a coming out party for Onyechi. After being sidelined for his entire junior season to injury, Onyechi wanted to make big things happen for his senior season. In Week 0, he hit the ground running literally gaining 203 yards and three touchdowns in win over Jersey Village."

    Week 0? WTF?

Haha I was thinking the same thing....

  6. You have a couple of options: You can run a contain defense where the DEs force everything in, you can spy with either both OLBs or just the MLB, or you could be your FS and run Cover 3 (reversing the play so you take the short Zone and not the deep 1/3rd) and keep your eye on him. Another option is to blitz a Nickel Back or a corner from the outside. I guess it depends on the down and how good your D-line is.
