  1. That's the beauty of the coaching change IF you trust these new coaches as talent evaluators and developers. There is no bias. It's a clean slate across the board. Tommy's experience is clearly a plus, but experience in Becks offense has proven to be regressing and damaging. Normally, Quarterbacks are supposed to improve over their careers.

There's also the benefit of simplification. If Riley's system is simpler it gives the player the ability to display their talents and abilities. It becomes more about developing the offense around the talent unlike Beck who was building his offense around HIS OWN talents. He was the chess master and players were simply pons. The other plus of simplification, more talented and sometimes younger players can find their way on the field and make an impact.

We need a qb leader that can maintain a calm presence regardless of distraction

This leads to development through experience. It creates depth. The best way to learn is through experience. The more guys who can "get it" and get onto the field, the better. The last staff not only rarely had depth, but for the majority of the time even the starters didn't appear to ever "get it". The coaches said as much on a regular basis.

That being said, who do you favor out of the chute? Who do you favor to finish strong? In Armstrong's case, it seemed as though his play reflected Bo's behavior on the field. When Bo went ballistic, TA looked much more flustered and at a loss.

  2. I don't see it being TA. Just too inconsistent. I didn't see much improvement from last year to this. Throwing motion, missing too many short passes (either because he threw a rocket or just plain missed - so many of his passes to the sidelines were off the mark). I think we end up wt Stanton or Bush - my guess it will be Stanton.

Good coaching may improve TA. He certainly hasn't benefited from that so far. From limited observation, I really like Bush. Haven't seen much of Stanton, but he may be the real deal. At the very least, we have a chance of actually seeing the best QB on the field this year

  3. It is impossible to tell how each player will develop under a coach that knows how to teach and develop QBs.

I continue to shake my head in amazement at people who just "know" all the other players will improve and TA won't.

    That defies logic.

Never said TA won't improve. He needs intensive coaching, his mechanics aren't very good, IMHO. I just feel everyone will get a fair shot

    Stanton, Stanton

I like the thought of Stanton but have a gut feeling MR will give TA first chance and if he doesn't perform well put in Stanton. Unless practices go in a different way, maybe we'll see MR go with Stanton. Stanton has the physical toughness to run, a strong arm, and carries leadership qualities. He could get the job done being well-rounded.

Don't think Armstrong will cut it, hope I'm wrong. Maybe with intensive coaching he can improve enough to stay at QB. I look for him to transfer or change positions...maybe slot back

Boy I hope you are right. I am for TA starting. I think he'll stay if he gets to be starting QB. My guess is Riley will start him but again I hope I am wrong. I think Stanton has all it takes and should be given a chance.

My impression of Riley is he will start whoever has the best chance to be a winner

    Good point.

BTW, I don't mind you being a woman. Some of my favorite people are women

  7. He told them he remembers researching who they were and what kind of young men they were. He remembers choosing them, recruiting them, sitting in many of their living rooms talking to their parents about life at Nebraska. He remembers telling them he'd take care of them, and he told them that's what he's tried to do.

He told them he didn't agree with the decision to fire him. He felt the program was in good shape, that he had been a good steward of his players, and that although he agrees there are things that need fixing, he thought and thinks that he's the man to do it. He said he didn't regret the choices he's made.

He told them he's enjoyed watching them grow as players and as young men. He told them he's proud of who they are, he's proud of what they've accomplished, how far they've come. He told them he will be watching them as they continue their careers, and that he's going to be their fan now, not their coach.

He told them some things didn't go right, and he took responsibility for it. He told them about life and consequences and choices and that things don't turn out the way you think they should, or that sometimes people don't see things the way you see things. He told them things change, and it's not always a change you wanted or felt was right.

He told them this is part of the business. That football is a big world and that nothing is set in stone. He told them coaching can be a rough business and it's not for the faint of heart. He told them that he would be OK, and his coaches would be OK, and that they were not to worry about them. He told them to focus on school, keep their heads up, and to work hard. He told them that's what he expected from them every day and that hasn't changed.

He told the Seniors it was their job to be role models for the team, to show them the work ethic he's always taught them to have. He told them he knew they would make him proud.

It was an emotional night, and not all of the emotions were sadness. He told them they were men of character that would get through that in time.

He said "heckuva" about 18 times.

Not precisely what I heard. I hope your version is the real deal

  8.

at the meeting? I hope it wasn't more "us against the world BS"

I don't think anyone is gonna say........it was probably a bunch of "do your best"......"I'm gonna miss you guys" kinda stuff......and answering the questions from players who felt in the dark about the whole thing.

I heard snippets that it was more "how I got screwed"
