  1. If he doesn't make an impact this year on the d-line I wonder what the chances are that he'll be moved back to the oline? I know our depth is way better on the oline but if the kid is a natural o-lineman it would be too bad to waste his talents on the d.

Got to trust the coaches. Just a very talented young man who is looking to be the anchor of the D line when Suh leaves.

I believe I heard in a Bo interview a list of guys that Bo was excited about that Red shirted this year. Steinhuhler was on the list as well as Osborne, Courtney and Compton, Will.

  2. I posted this in another thread but really what is everyone getting so pumped up about KU for? Our d line will be better and deeper than it was last year which manhandled their line. Our secondary will all come back for the most part and also have a ton of added depth, the same with the linebackers. We gave them a lot of points and shot ourselves in the foot on O a few times. IMO this game won't be all that close.

Guess you missed the last two times you boys came to Lawrence.

It will be close. I think we will win. As mentioned previously, though, our schedule could mean still not winning the North.

The last two times in Lawrence were also coached by Callahan. Who was out coached by Mangino all four years. Callahan is gone, thank you T.O.

KU has some positives going into next year with Reesing and Mangino. But the game is won in the trenches and NU has Suh. Suh will be the highest DT in next years draft and is going to wreak havok in KUs backfield.

NU improves more than expected from year one to year two and takes care of business in KU.

    NU 31 KU 6 :bonez

    *FL Whozzit--whatever....

    Nebraska 38 FAU 3

I'm going to be looking for Nebrakas first shut out. I don't believe it will be our first game. But it might be our second. It is going to be very difficult for teams to move the ball on us. Our D line is going to be one of the best in the big 12. Plus the huge amount of red shirts we had makes me very excited.

Let the koolaid flow like a river of red. :koolaid2:

  4. As a student from out of state (actually from Ft Collins, CO lol), I will be spending my Thanksgiving IN colorado, and won't be able to make it back to the game. This is the case for about 50% of the guys I have talked to, not many students from far away will be able to make it back to the game... so be prepared.

    So? Sell your ticket!!!!!!!!!!

Or even better give it to me or any of the thousands of fans that would love to go to the game!

  5. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3682639 is currently linked on the front page of ESPN.

Article seems ridiculous to me overall. I've read that Pelini's constant badgering of officials has to do with defensive substitutions, as he doesn't feel that the Huskers are getting enough time to bring on other players after the offense makes substitutions. If this is the case, it might just be him trying to get used to things working different in the Big XII vs the SEC.

As for grabbing Terrence Moore's facemask, I agree with Pelini- you don't act childish and hit other players.

The article seems over blown to me as there is no good evidence that Pelini's "anger" is hampering the team.

I do think that Bo's tirades are immature and unprofessional. Many others do too. His use of language is inexcusable and an embarrassment to the university. No educated adult should speak that way at all, much less in a public setting where you are an ambassador of a sort (representing, in this case, the University of Nebraska). The negative publicity is to be expected. I'd expect more to come.

Also, I'd imagine that the refs in the B12 are less than impressed with Bo's antics and the benefit of the doubt on penalties will continue to go to our opposition and our guys will be flagged more often. It is natural, refs will do that if they dislike the coach. Obviously not all refs --- but Bo was not earned much love from the refs. Until Bo changes, expect that NU will be penalized often and that borderline calls will usually go against NU.

And, if you do not think all the penalties against NU have hurt the team than well.... I disagree.

I've never met a coach that didn't swear like a sailor. I watched the OU NU game from the begining to the end. He had every rite to get than angry. To me it shows he cares. However the perception is that he is out of control and unprofessionsl. Perception is in the eye of the beholder. As a fan I like it. How it goes over with others may not be in the best interest of the program.

  6. what you are apparently missing is that one year ago BC was already a three year head coach but the team still sucked big time. BC didn't get treated like that from the beginning. If in two years from now the Huskers get smashed by a team like they did against MU or OU, the fire will turn on BO too. But you gotta give someone a chance first.

BC was given 4 years to improve from his first year where he went 5-7. Nebraska went 10-3 the year before. Husker fans didn't call for his or any one elses head. Why? Because Solich went 7-7 the year before.

Bo rignt now is 5-4 with 3 winnable games left plus a probable bowl game. We have a good chance at going 9-4.

This Oklahoma loss is what it is. An outmatched Nebraska gave the Sooners the ball 4 times on turnovers. The ball on I believe the 45 yard line, 20 yard line, 5 yard line and a pick 6. Resulting in 28 points. We lost by 34.

Bill Calahan was given more rope than Solich ever had. BC was allowed to lie straight to our faces after every loss with his coach speak. The entire State heard what he said and we all thought he was watching a different game than the rest of us. But there was little call for his job untill year 4 and at that point the wheels had fallen off of the wagon and it was a no brainer that BC had to go.

Bo has the benifit of a longer rope than Solich and probably a shorter rope than Bill Calahan. I don't believe Bo would want it any other way. Bo likes the challenge and I don't forsee any 5-7 seasons in our near or distant future. I for one will be a patient but demanding husker fan.

    Go Big Red!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. How this conference is transforming, it really is turning into the SEC for the North teams and NU fans will not like/consider all North teams the rival at some point. The word rival is termed loosely here.

Many NU fans don't like this, but my assessment is that unless NU hires a superstar HC, there will still be OU, Texas then.........everybody else. With a new contender from the North every couple years or so. Texas took NU's spot in the old order and knocked NU down to everyone else status in the old Big 8. Just my POV.

Not to make excuses but the Big 12 and NCAA have done many things to pull the power away from Nebraska. 85 scolarships, higher grades, visits, food, title game ...

We have one strong hold left and that is the walk on program. This was once a halmark of the Husker program that was all but destroyed by BC. Yet this will quickly be rebuilt because we have a fan base like no other state. Many of our boys would rather play for NU than take a scolarship from another school. They will play with the heart of a Husker and the day will come again when we are feared because their teams will be sore the week after a Husker game.

We have to be patient with Bo, he has to teach these kids the right way to play and it is going to be hard to get the best recruits to come in here when we aren't winning. However in four years we are going to have a system in place where walk ons are Seniors and are doing the right things in our system. This will allow us to reload not rebuild. :horns2

I just hope we will get better sooner than 4 years. I believe we will.

Man the big 12 is tough this year. :ahhhhhhhh What are the chances that 2 teams from the big 12 play in the title game?

  8. Anyting is possible. Look at CU beating OU last year. No one expected that. If we establish the running game early, knock the living crap out of Chase Daniel, and often and keep the Mizzou Offense off the feild we have a pretty good shot. My prediction is that Lucky breaks the slump and rushes for 150+ yards.GBR

I think we have a good chance of winning. But I think we need to go a different direction than the general pulse.

Fist off this idea that we need to establish the run first then we will win.

I totaly disagree. If we try to force the run early we will lose. We don't run that good and they will stuff our attempts. MU's biggest weakness is against the pass. They are not ranked very high. We need to test them early. If we score first and get up by a couple of scores early we can win this game. The crowd will rock this team to a victory but we need to start strong. If we do our team will play with a lot of energy. It will be very difficult to come back against these guys but it will be just as hard for these guys to come back against us (they are supposed to blow us out). We don't need to over think ourselves, we pass better than we run. We need to pass to set up the run. Black shirts need to hold MU to under thirty points.

    GBR

  9. You can't live by "what if's'. Both have returned one in the last few weeks so Swift or Paul are both up to the job. I say Paul, just so he can see the field more.

Where is Mendoza in all this? He clearly has the best wheels on the team. How is he not seeing some ST play? No hands, or what?

I saw him drop more than a couple balls in the Red / White game.

  10. Swift did a great job on special teams last week, but he's too valuable as a receiver. I would hate to see him get hurt returning a punt or kick.

I hate when people use this as a philosophy. Don't use a guy on special teams because he might get hurt.

    :wtf

The last I checked you can get hurt on any play. Special teams IS 1/3 of the game. Look at how important they have been in all our games so far. 2 TDs, field goals, field position and blocked kicks. If you don't play your best players you are killing your chances of winning games. Do what every you have to do, play who ever gives you the best possible chance to WIN.

To give less than your best players to 1/3 of the game is what Bill Callahan did and it was flat out wrong headed. How many red shirts did he burn??? :bang

  11. Fair enough, I take your word for it.

Stop by the tailgate and we can shake on it before the game if you like. I will have a beer there for you.

Trust me it would be one of the happiest days of my life to see Nebraska win this game.

    :thumbs

    1. Nebraska will need to play it's best game on both offence and defence.

    2. MU will have to play uninspired football.

    3. Ball bounces and ref's go Nebraska's way.

  12. I think the first quarter will set the tone for this game. If we can move the ball on them in the 1st quarter, and reek havoc on their offense, then I can see us winning big....say 42-10.

If we don't set the tone of this game immediately, then I can see it being a lot tighter, but we still win - say 24-17.

I may be giving their offense too much credit...I hope so. That will depend on the attitude that our defense comes to play with...we seem to get better each week...hopefully this continues.

The o-line will determine what happens with the offense. If Ganz feels comfortable, we do really well on the passing game. If they can push the defense back a couple of yards on runs, we will rack up some yards there.

This game is totally up to us, and the tone we come to play with. The only concern we may have to deal with is their defense...their offense has shown absolutely zip so far this year. Our defense should be able to put them on their ear.

I don't believe either of these two teams have a very good offence. We have struggled to run the ball and V Techs secondary is fast. We will have a difficult time scoring. However V Techs offence is worse than ours. They have an anverage of 21 points per game against ACC teams. I believe the Husker D is better and will hold V Tech to fewer points than their average... say 14.

Special teams is where V Tech has won their games so far this year with turnovers and blocked kicks. Fortunately special teams is also a strength for Nebraska.

A couple intagables why Nebraska will win. Home game. Home game at night. Home game at night with two weeks to prepair. :horns2:bonez:cheers

  13. Oh yeah, Missouri looked awesome. Nothing like giving up 21 and fumbling 3 times against an opponent like Buffalo. Let's just hand them the NC trophy. Threads like this are getting old.

:yeah Seriously old! "Ow we're so bad, we can't beat anyone in the top 50. Oh no we have nothing but a bunch of talentless walk-ons! Ow god what are we gonna do?" :ohnoes

Damn I can't wait till we beat a few of these teams. Then everyone will say, "I knew we weren't as bad as they said!" "Saw this coming a mile away!""Told you we would beat Mizzou!"

Have some damn pride in your team! I've heard guys in TX higher on our team than you "fans". To scared to be ...gasp... wrong? Grow some big red balls, and have a little faith in your team!

You pretty much summed it up..thanks man

    :yeah

VT is beatable in fact we are favored by 6.

Missuri is not invincable. They were payed close by many average teams last year. Iowa State 14 pts, Texas A&M 14 pts, @ K State 17 pts and @ Kansas 8 pts. I go into every game with the belief in my heart that we will win.

Texas Tech lost to OK State and Colorado last year. They scored more at this point last year.

  14. My guess is VaTech will be favored and should be. They have at least played a team or two. Georgia Tech was buzz word at the beginning. They lost to a very good ECU team.

My guess by 3 at our house.

Hopefully we will see what all of us are hoping for. But my guess is we will be on the ugly end. VaTech by 10.

As for the fans, if we lose, some will become very concerned about Missouri and Texas Tech. If we keep it close the kids will be fine. I doubt there could be a blow out, but we are facing a lot more talent than we have seen so far, and an excellent coach. If that happens, I am afraid the wheels come off quickly for the next two games.

If we win, we may squeak into the top 25, not because they believe we are that good, but it helps the TV ratings for the following week, two ranked teams playing. If we do lose the game, it spells almost certain defeat the next two games IMHO. 3 straight losses could really screw up the kids and the fans. All are on board now, and honestly seeing things that are not there. We have a very tough three weeks ahead of us. Keep the faith, Bo is doing it right no matter the outcome of the next three.

NU wins mostly because of the by week. We have a lot of things to correct and the coaches are doing a great job at teaching these kids how to get better every day, every week and every game.

NU at home with two weeks to prepare and an offensive line that is finally healthy. :koolaid2:

MO we loose. Wow they are good. We will see just how far we have to go to be a great team.

TTech is beatable. TTech's record against ranked teams is not good. However they do have a good home record. I'm interested to see how we bounce back after the MO game if we lose.

  15. We should expect perfection after two games. I mean Osborne was perfect every year he coached. Fire Cotton now, just like Osborne would have. Osborne went through coaches like Nebraska fans go through rolaids.

    :sarcasm

I see improvement all over the place. Special teams I see record breaking field goals and 85 yard returns. I see more than one husker making a tackle every play more like a swarm to the ball. Coaches I hear honest takes on performance and forth right answers.

If Bo says that the O line is better than it is playing in the games, I believe him. I expect this team to be a lot better by the end of the year.

I saw a fourth quarter where Nebraska dominated and won the game by finishing strong with 21 points scored and 3 points allowed.

So after two games I've seen flashes of greatness and 2 victories. I expect to see consistancy by the end of the year. Improvement every game untill we get there.

    :bonez

Let's go smash NMSU in the mouth. Se how they respond and smash them in the mouth again. :box

  16. UGA wins (1 for SEC)

    Florida wins (2 for SEC)

LSU wins easily (3 for SEC)

Texas Tech wins (1 for Big XII)

    'Bama wins (4 for SEC)

Huskers win in a close one (2 for Big XII)

    Tennessee wins (5 for SEC)

Colorado wins (3 for Big XII)

Iowa State wins because Petrino is a loser(4 for Big XII)

Kansas State wins (5 for Big XII)

Miss St. wins (6 for SEC)

Ole Miss wins (7 for SEC)

Surprising that I live, work, and went to school in SEC country and I am calling this overall match-up a lot closer than any of the others!

UGA loses in the regular season but wins for the National Title against OK

Bama better bring their A game because Mangino is quite possibly the best coach in the country.

Kansas State will finish bottom of the big 12 and would loose to Vanderbilt.

    Other than those three...

    :yeah

  17. So which conference is better? There are some convincing arguments for both conferences.. Let's stack them up side by side. The best team in the Big 12 plays the best team in the SEC. Big 12 #2 vs. SEC #2. And so on.

(I will match by rankings in the AP poll)

    #4 Oklahoma vs. #2 Georgia

    #6 Missouri vs. #5 Florida

    #10 Texas vs. #7 LSU

#12 Texas Tech vs. #9 Auburn

    #14 Kansas vs. #13 Alabama

    Nebraska vs. #25 South Carolina

    Oklahoma State vs. Tennessee

    Colorado vs. Kentucky

    Iowa State vs. Arkansas

    Kansas State vs. Vanderbilt

    Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State

    Baylor vs. Ole Miss

Which conference would win the majority of these games?

I don't see any easy victories by the Big 12, while the SEC has some gimmies. I think Florida, Alabama, and the bottom four win easily. To me, this is the easiest way to see that the Big 12 still hasn't caught up to the SEC. But it sure would be fun to watch.

Does anybody think the Big 12 could actually win this matchup?

    Big 12 WINS.

    Nebraska

    Colorado

    Texas Tech

    SEC WINS.

    LSU

    Mississippi St.

    Ole Miss

All the other games are 50/50. Makes the big 12 better. Very interesting that 6 teams in the SEC rank in the top 25 and 5 teams rank for the Big 12. My guess is that by the end of the year the Big 12 will have 6 teams by the end of the year and SEC will have 5. Nebraska will be the addition. Subtract South Carolina. :bonez:restore

  18. As was stated from the beginning. Wait until the court runs its course.

I agree, if he did it, there would be dna under his nails, and it would most likely show where it had been and hadn't.

NO oppinion one way or another, but could you imagine that, she had been coming on to him and wanted more, maybe the cold drinks were to Kool her down in more ways than one. Maybe he did this as a way of getting out of the mess. Then if that is true, and having some drinks he reacted to her I will get you one way or another attack. Who knows.

But I doubt we see him this year. Does not play this year, enrolls for grad school or graduate next summer he could play next year. Is that right scholarship guys.

Either way it is past and we need to let him forget the nightmare he and his family have been through. It is good he was found not guilty, it makes the program look better than the opposite.

    Time to move on.

    I feel sorry for Bo.

Bo's put in the situation of either kicking off a kid who got drunk and over reacted toward a very upset girl and police. Or keeping a drunk molester who is violent towards police, that managed to avoid a guilty verdict from the courts.

Bo needs to talk to Andy, Andy's parents, Dr. Tom, the unity council and the other coaches. Ultimately it is up to Bo.

If it was my decision, with the little info that I have or can get, I'd take him back with a very short leash. Also I would require Andy to take an Alcohol awareness class and an anger management class. I would also ask Andy what he thinks Bo should do for a punishment or even what Andy should do to punish himself?

The easy road would be to kick Andy off the team. He is out of condition, has not practiced and would make an excellent example. Besides the O line is deep. Andy has not been a part of the team for the most part. The only real problem is that you might have just kicked off a wrongly accused kid with pro potential that did resist arest.

The tough road would be to take him back. Andy has little up side. He has used his red shirt. He might earn a starting spot near the middle of Big 12 play. If Andy does something else that is stupid Bo's feet will be put to the fire and the media will put much of the blame on Bo.

Good luck Bo. I'll back you either way. :bonez
