  2. Helena-West Helena cornerback Anterio Sloan made an oral commitment to Nebraska in April but is listening to two SEC schools.

“Mississippi State and Auburn are two schools recruiting me real hard,” Sloan said. “I’m looking at them but I’m would like to stay with Nebraska. Those are my other two options.”

Sloan said he committed to Nebraska sight unseen based on conversations with Arkansas signees Darius Winston and Turell Williams.

“I really wanted to commit and get it over with so I could stay focused my football,” Sloan said. “I’ve been able to focus on football but since Mississippi State and Auburn have shown me interest. I want to show the same amount of interest in them. After I’ve done some research, I’ve liked them.”

Sloan, who said he plans to visit Nebraska sometime in early August, has other offers from Texas A&M, Memphis, Kentucky and Hawaii.

“I have a better chemistry because of (secondary) Coach (Marvin) Sanders,” said Sloan, who said he hopes to visit Mississippi State and Auburn. “My mind is focused in Nebraska right now but I’m looking at Mississippi State and Auburn too. I’ll know on signing day. I really don’t have any other schools recruiting me. I have others offers but ever since I committed they have left me alone.”

He said he wants to visit all three schools before making a final decision

I cant help but think Sloan is going to have academic issues. That's not a knock on SLoan whatsoever, hes a good kid, its a knock on where he lives. The Mayor actually put out a 24 hour curfew on West Helena last year because gang violence was so out of control. Needless to say it's not exactly pleasantville and that goes for the school system too. Arkansas had major eligibility hurdles to go through with Winston and Williams from the 09 class. Williams didnt qualify and Winston was just cleared by the NCAA clearing house last month....I hope he sticks with NU though, I'd much rather see him a Husker than at Cow Pasture U or Allbarn.

  3. For a kid in that part of the state, the schools to worry about are Tennessee and Ole Miss. Kids in that part of Arkansas tend to have a history of going out of state, and for a lot of residents in that area there's more of an identification with Mississippi and Tennessee.

Not to say Arkansas won't have a shot, but I would think it won't be the main competition if the kid gets offers from all three schools.

That would be true back in the early 2000s but those days are long gone. Loads of guys from the southern part of the state made up the 2008 class http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?r...4&Year=2008

If Arkansas offers a instater the usually always get them. In fact, in the SEC I think only LSU has a higher ratio of offers to commits than Arkansas for instate prospects. Tennessee isnt a factor whatsoever. They havent signed a Arkansas kid since Slick Shelley back in the 05 class. Ole Miss will be a factor for the guys that arent heavily recruited, and half the state still hates Nutt so I dont see them being a factor either. Alabama and LSU are big time factors though. Especially Alabama.

Sloan is a very good player dont get me wrong I wish Petrino would offer him, but I will be shocked if he gets a offer. Theres only has 18-20 spots available and the hogs just signed a bunch of DBs in the last class. Sybhrain Berry from Camden (who is a CB) just got offered today, so that even further seperates Sloan from getting a offer (rumors are swirling Berry has already commited too). And Petrino has made it known he wants size, of arkansas' 31 commits in 09 nobody was under 5'10. Sloan measured in at 5'8 at the Little Rock combine last weekend.

  4. One of hawgsports administrators (Trey Biddy) posted it on the premium forum yesterday. LSU verbally offered on the 26th, Maryland and WVU verbally offered on the 27th.

Arkansauce, what a great name... :clap

Hey can you post any film of Sloan?

All I can say is to be 5'8" 165 and be a 5.8 rated 4*...the kid must really be a great player.

    haha thanks

I've heard nothing but great things about Sloan, he's faster than his time is being reported on rivals too. He's a big time pick up and whoever recruited himfor you guys deserves major kudos. Its really rare to get a commit, espeically from a 4 star, that hasnt even seen your campus yet.

  5. Lol... I find it funny Arkansas finally has an instate kid that's the best RB prospect looking at them since McFadden/Jones and they still find a way to mess it up. Oh, Arkansas... seriously, though, we should get on this kid. Could be the homerun threat that could take it to the house at any time that we sorely need.

He's mad at the Arkansas coaches because they arent paying attention to his best friend Dakota Mosley. Dyer and Mosley want to go to school together but Mosley is basically being ignored by the UA because the UA has 4 scholarship TE's already and only 18-20 available slots open for the 2010 class. Mosley and Dyer travel everywhere together on visits, and theyre suppost to be in Fayetteville next weekend. I guess if they show up this time or not will speak volumes.

If Arkansas wiffs on Dyer it will be a huge huge loss. But, the hogs will be ok reguardless. Arkasnas has four 4 star RBs on the roster (Ronnie Wingo, USC transfer Broderick Green, DeAnthony Curtis and Knile Davis) and they're all young too, either freshmen or sophomores.

  6. For what's it's worth, I was in contact with Darius Winston's uncle who is a coach at West Helena. Sloan is going to visit Nebraska. Buck Willie (Winstons uncle) said he is going to bring Sloan up to Lincoln but didnt know when.

  7. He said Auburn is on top right now.

Dyer is pissed off at the Arkansas coaches, will be intersting to see if the realtionship can be salvaged. He was suppost to be at Arkansas' practice Friday but no-showed.

  8. Is there really any chance he looks at us though?

I dont see why not.. He's visited quite a few schools lately (GT, Auburn etc.) and he plans on making more visits this summer. Dyer wants to be the #1 recruit in the nation and he's going to play up his recruitment for all its worth, so he's going to take a lot of visits. If Nebraska can get him on campus anything can happen. This video will give you an idea how he wants to play up his recruitment - http://nwahomepage.com/media_player.php?media_id=172661

The over whelming majority of Arkansas fans think he's a lock to Fayetteville, but I have doubts.

  9. He also has verbal offers from Maryland, West Virginia and LSU

    link? need a source

  10. He also has verbal offers from Maryland, West Virginia and LSU

Arkansas only has 18-20 scholarships available this year and we signed 6 DBs in the 09 class. Arkansas has only offered a few DBs this year and its at the bottom of the todem pole as far as 'need' goes. Things could change, but at this point it looks unlikely he'll get an offer from the hogs and will head out of state. I hate seeing highly rated players go out of state, but good luck to you guys and happy hunting.

I'd rather see him with NU than the other schools that are after him. Plus I dont want him at A&M since we picked up that long term series with them at Jerry World.

  11. If you clink on the 'listen live' link here http://www.karnnewsradio.com/

you can listen to a live interview with Goodlow tonight at 6:10 PM central time. Knile Davis will follow Goodlow at 6:20 PM

I apologize in advance if ANYONE other than Richard Davenport interviews either prospect. Wally Hall and Shawn Arnell are complete idiots. Last week they had Darius Winston on the show and Wally Hall thought he was a WR lol.

  12. lol, I dont think I've ever seen a recruit name 2 top 3s. "Stanford, Nebraska and Arkansas are probably my top three as far as going away for school,” Fontana said. “Locally, my top three are Tulane, SMU — I consider them local because of the quick hour flight — and Southern Miss"

His mom works for Delta so distance from home shouldnt be a factor. Good luck, he sounds and looks like a good prospect. http://wholehogsports.com/adg/234080

  13. It might be a 4 team race with Davis. The LSU faithful dont think they'll take another RB unless they can flip Trent Richardson. And LSU hasnt even offered Rivals 100 super stud Christine Micheal, and he sounds like he REALLY likes LSU (must be nice to be that selective)

You guys or OU are probably the clear front runners here. He wasnt even on Arkansas' radar until very recently and Mizzou seems like all their chips are on Wingo.

  14. Thanks. Not sure how accurate these rumors are, but Baileys facebook and myspace pages say he's commited.

I figured you guys would be a major player for Lynn because of his bro being at NU and I believe he's visited you guys numerous times. As a rule of thumb I always consider the home state school the favorite unless there's a connection to an out of state school though (like Bailey and Arkansas). In my opinion he's OU's to lose, guess we'll see though.

  15. This morning rumors are swirling Bailey commited to the hogs while on his visit to Fayetteville this weekend. It just isnt public yet because the recruiting services at Scout and Rivals havent been able to contact him.

Good luck with your upcoming season, Bo is a great coach.

  16. From Husker Journal:

    JULY 28, 2008. PREP STAR

TERRELL WILLIAMS, ATH, 6-2, 210, 4.6, TULSA (UNION), OKLAHOMA

“Stanford was first to offer me they are high on my list. Stanford academics are like the Ivy league” said Williams.”

“I have an opportunity to go in and play early at Stanford. I talk to Coach Clayton White he said I could play both ways. I play a lot of positions in high school wide receiver, safety and linebacker.” he said

“I’ve been to Arkansas’s summer camp. I met the coaches and players. Coach Petrino loves me he keeps calling me number six. Coach Petrino said if I keep working hard I will be in the NFL. They (Arkansas) are always asking me to commit but I tell them that I want to wait and take all my visits.” Williams said

“Arkansas has great facilities. Arkansas said I could play strong safety or wide receiver. I don’t know what position I want to play in college right now, it’s hard to say.” he said

“Arkansas is close to home it’s only a 1 ½ to 2 hour drive. Fayetteville is a little college town not big or small.” said Williams

“I have a chance to go to Nebraska and get the job done. Nebraska has great tradition, great program. They just need a little help. I would love to go there and make an impact. I have a chance to play early at Nebraska. That’s what my plan is play early at a school, look at the depth charts.” he said

“I call Barney Cotton about every two weeks he said I need to get a little bigger I’m already 6-4, 215." Williams said

"I’m following Nebraska this year to see what they do with their new coach. I’ll probably visit Nebraska this fall for an official visit. We haven’t gotten to that point yet. We just moved to a new house and schools start in two weeks.” he said

“I definitely want to get out of Oklahoma, do some new things. I don’t have any favorite conference to play in, but I do like the SEC they get you ready for the NFL. I want to take all five visits, two or three during the season one or two after the season.” said Williams

“I intimidate defenders with my size and speed. I can go on top of corners.”

Williams certainly doesnt lack confidence...good grief
