  1. There are many Husker fans on this message board that surely know they need to stand up and do jumping jacks, as this is the quickest way to rid oneself of a sandy mangina. The internal sniping is at all time highs... and even the perennial lithmus test of fandom known as Knapplc is grumpy... the sun is cold in Nebraska at the moment.

As for what went wrong, it's all about money (imo). You pay to play (at the top). Until Nebraska opens the checkbook and begins paying for coaching talent (meaning asst. coaches and coordinators) we're going to be second tier (i.e. top 25 but not top 10). Never completely horrible, but never quite great. Football Purgatory.

By the way, second tier would put us right next to Georgia I believe... When was the last time Georgia was actually involved with the National Championship Game, or even beat a team it shouldn't have? And based upon talent alone, I think this would more negatively reflect on Georgia than Nebraska. So what's been happening with y'all? Shouldn't this type of "trolling" be reserved for teams that have recently won NC trophies, like Florida or Alabama. :)

  2. Ideas are fine. Sh#t like this is not. Ciante Evans move to LB?! You damn near have to be born yesterday to have that opinion, or even to throw that idea out there. But whatever. Sorry if I refuse to entertain this "idea" because it's freakin' dumb.

    I believe you're overreacting a tad.

I believe you're understating his overreaction a bit, too. :) I would even add that the original post qualifies as an idea, and that the subsequent responses from HuskerShark would qualify as sh#t. Irony?

LOL! I'm not sure if I should reply with a 'great usage of gif' or if I should be creeped out a bit! :)

The back 7, with the exception of middle LB, appears to be the place to put the most athletically gifted players regardless of size - at least that's what it looks like when you watch the teams playing good D atm imo. It's starting to become difficult to physically tell apart safeties, outside linebackers and cornerbacks (for teams you're less familiar with). See the previous usage of Hagg and Gomes in the Peso.

I think we've been poor enough (on D) to examine all options, including those that may be less likely to be implemented. For Ciante, I think he would need to gain about 20 lbs to be able to play most downs of most games as a linebacker, which may negate his quickness.

  4. The defense is capable of playing great against a high-tempo offense.

Zaire is going to be huge plus on defense

The O-Line is vastly improved from last year

wait a second...I thought Barney Cotton couldn't coach and his linemen sucked so much that they were the worst of the worstest?@?@!##$!

Sammy? I've never seen so much love for Barney?!

I learned that the team has more heart than we (including me) give them credit. Arkansas State wasn't allowed to make it a game again in the second half despite Bo's unexpected absence and the glut of turnovers early in the half.

  5. If you are not embarassed about the loss, then how do you claim to be a Nebraska fan.

Because I didn't do anything to cause myself embarassment. You see, there is the Nebraska team...and there is me. We both wanted to see UCLA lose, but that's the extent of how far the we takes us. I didn't miss a tackle, I didn't miss a read, I was never out of position, I didn't get run over by a ball carrier, I never fumbled, never had a penalty called on me, didn't miss a single kick or muff a punt, or did anything bad as far as that game.

Let's put it his way: What could you have done differently that would have saved yourself embarassment?

Who do you think you are bringing logic into this thread?

  6. As frustrating as it was watching Taylor somewhat revert during our 4th quarter offensive series, I think some of the questioning needs to be directed at Beck. (Let me state at the outset that I am NOT one of the posters who is going overboard and demanding coaching changes after one subpar outing). But, no one is above a little criticism.

It appears to me that (eerily similar to last year), when we get into MUST drive situations that the play calling goes into panic mode as much as or more as the players trying to execute them. Saturday, we saw how we abandoned the run and went strictly pass the last few forgettable series. That, to me, smacks of panic by Beck as much as by players.

    Feel free to disagree……..

I don't know about exact percentages of the blame for Beck versus T-Mart, but I would argue the mistakes (e.g. bad reads/throws) that T-Mart commits are themselves at least 50% attributable to the coaching staff - Bo or Beck - because of the whole square peg, round hole thing. He's not Robert Griffin. If the play calls were more consistently plays that put him in position to succeed, he'd look closer to week 1 more consistently IMO.

With all that said, I vote 110% for Tim Beck simply for calling that play near the end zone which I will not name. These are college kids; college coaches are rewarded handsomely to put them in position to succeed.

  7.

So let me get this straight. It's selfish of me to break my own chair that I paid for or punch a hole through the drywall in my hallway because someone else in this great big world has lost the capacity to watch a Nebraska game? By that same token it is also selfish for me to shove a Texas fan out of my face for hooping and hollering in my grill while leaving the 1996 Big XII championship game? Or slobberknocking a Colorado fan after spitting on my friend after the 2001 game in boulder? I understand this may an emotional response from you in reference to a recent experience and I empathize with emotional responses but I'm afraid don't share your sentiment and couldn't disagree with you more.

Not selfish. Just oversensitive and stupid.

    +100

I actually mean no offense, but you would be much happier applying that type of passion to something you had an actual stake in. I bet you'd even have more people to watch the game with :P

I know this because I used to (almost) be this same guy. Not so much the breaking/fighting, but losses would ruin/sour an entire week.

  8. Just finished watching the replay. I have seen it stated here that Southern Miss's defense is faster than Ucla's....no F*n way. You folks will be dazzled by our young speed. Your QB will be running for his life. And his pad high passes? There will be turnovers. Not here as a troll...see my previous posts.

His review was just thorough to not remember our quarterback's name, so obviously it's spot on. Fear the pad high passes!

  9. Wisconsin wants to be Nebraska. Just ask Barry Alvarez what blueprint he photocopied when he took the job at 'nobody cares about U' back in the day. They are our little brothers, be proud that we modeled the path to success so well for them. This year is their "golden" generation. Enough said.

Wisconsin - aka the Missouri of the B1G.

That might be overstating it a little bit.... I think that Alvarez came from a program that was well-rounded, and did things the right way. He saw it as a model of success, and he used that knowledge when building their program. Wisconsin is it's own program, and a step above Missouri for sure....

Emotionless, logic-based statements that don't flame the troll from Madison aren't what this thread needs!? :P

  11. Do you get more points if you have more posts? What is the deal with 300?

knapp throws you a surprise party when you reach 300... D'on! I wasn't supposed to tell you!

As long as there is cake. I like cake.

    The cake is a LIE!

  12. i read that article this morning - i think some of you just see Dirk's name at the top and automatically go of the cliff. Did you read the whole thing? Like how he defends the decision at the bottom?

Bo broke with tradition, no doubt.

But the greatest Nebraska tradition is dominance. And last Saturday — for the first time all season — these guys played like a Pelini defense. They played like Blackshirts. They earned the jerseys.

He tried to save-face at the end....tried to soften his intentions so that we wouldn't think so wrongly of him. I don't care for the dude. He just wants to create some controversy so his articles get more hits. Screw him. Pelini has earned the right to evolve the tradition a bit. It is quite evident that Pelini is a straight traditionalist and holds HIGH respect for the NEB program. If he didn't, Osborne wouldn't have hired him.

Time to put on the big boy pants... we all don't see through the same set of eyes.

  13. And we do realize... Dirk is a paid employee of the World Herald (I believe), and not an employee of UNL. I'd even venture a guess that this "work by Dirk" is considered an editorial... which is nothing more than a printed opinion.

Toughen up. If Dirk 'diggles' you, then just don't give him the time of day. I for one like reading alternate viewpoints to those I hold, as every now and then you learn something. It's ok for dissent to exist (in non-violent forms).

    Sheep, they're everywhere.

On a related note, maybe Dirk is GOOD for the program... i.e. constant bulletin board material for the team to keep that 'us vs them' mentality...

  14. Bo personally told every husker reporter to report nothing about Taylor's elbow because he didn't want all the attention on Taylor during the big10 media days.

Right. And the OWH is so well known for playing ball with Bo's every wish.

It's times like these when I start thinking how nice it would be to start handing out 30-day bans for people who post and perpetuate false rumors.

And what if it turned out to be true? I specifically said I was pretty sure it wasn't true, but so many people here have much better connections than I do. I meant no harm in posting this, posed it as something I was hoping for someone to tell me otherwise, and said we could close it down immediately. In no way was I trying to start a witch hunt. I've asked for the thread to be closed. What else could I have done outside of not posting?...which I understand now should have been my option. Sorry knapplc. I felt I was pretty straight forward.

For every rumor that we've had that's turned out to be even partially true we've had a dozen that were little more than someone crying "wolf!" It gets to a point where you have to determine whether these threads entertain the members or annoy them enough that they go elsewhere. We've lost members for being both too permissive and too restrictive of rumors, among other things. Our job is to balance those two ends. We've tried dedicated forums, we've tried locking/removing threads like this until proven true, we've tried all kinds of things.

You're a guy who has posted, what? Five times this year? Folks don't know if you're on the level or if you're poking the anthill with a stick. You say you wanted information, so instead of asking, "Has anyone heard anything about Martinez lately," you come out with "Martinez broke his elbow." If you're just looking for information, it seems odd to post a rumor about the worst-case scenario.

Calm down... You're an internet message board moderator. Without posts on rumor related topics, the traffic to this site would probably disappear throughout the summer months... Internet geeks crack me up! Judging a man, presumably, on the number of posts he's made this year?!?

If it bothers or annoys you, DON'T READ IT.

There's a balance. Knapp didn't come out with this post until there had been repeated, unsubstantiated rumor posts. Fire it out there once, fine. But don't continually pepper threads with undocumented doomsday scenarios. If you can't show me a shred of evidence that what you're saying is true, I don't want to hear about it all day. So I for one appreciate the mods trying to limit an onslaught of "lookitme" injury rumors.

I'm not saying nobody should relay a message about the team that they've heard. But until it is official, out of the university, don't tell me I'm going to "feel stupid" for not unquestioningly nodding at everything you say.

Some people take things on faith, others need something tangible for belief. I'm in the latter, and somebody saying "a dude on the team told me" is not tangible. It's a gust of wind.

If you want "official statements" - check the university website. If you "don't want to hear about it all day" - it's called the back button, selecting a different thread, or just closing out your web browser.

OR, create a form requiring mod approval before a thread can be started.

I apologize if you are actually forced to read this, as I wasn't aware of folks being forced into such horrible situations.

This is akin to the dude at the theater who wants someone to be quiet, so he begins to SSSSSSHHHHHH loudly... makes no sense.

  15. Of course he was sweating. He had on a suit and tie and had hot lights on him.

    We have a winner! :)

Plus, I imagine someone with a bit of a temper like Bo runs a little warm to begin with ;) .

  16. Bo personally told every husker reporter to report nothing about Taylor's elbow because he didn't want all the attention on Taylor during the big10 media days.

  17. Better to be a has been than a never has been..... And I didn't know pre-season top 10 is a has been... seems more like a now to me.....

And I'm sick of hearing about the 9-7 fluke. I cannot WAIT until we hang 60 on them.

ISU is the equivalent of a red-headed orphan stuck in an orphanage... unwanted and not going anywhere anytime soon.
