  1. Revenge can be a powerful motivator. If the kid wants to show Washington what they're missing and works hard and stays on the straight and narrow to do so, I have no problem with this. Hopefully he listens to his position coach, because there aren't too many better role models that I know of.

  2. he is now rated as a 5.4 2 star on rivals.

for those of you who care

There are 6 other kickers rated exactly the same. No other kickers even have ratings yet.

Now they just have to get on the ball and rate Santos.

  3. I like Bo's fire...but he needs to grow up a little bit when it comes to interacting with others. He is still too much of a slave to his emotions.

Put yourself in his shoes...some of the media asks ridiculous questions, and to just keep getting asked the same one in a new way 4 times in a row would be annoying.

Yes, but it's also a big part of the job that he gets paid a BOATLOAD of money to have. So I don't think it unreasonable to expect him to start getting used to it and maybe lighten up a bit.

I actually think Bo's done pretty well with the media during fall camp. Besides, if he keeps winning do any of us really care all that much?

  4. can somebody call the salt water aquarium guy, I need closure on this rumor. If Bo has talked about this at home it is possible that the exotic plant gardener heard something and talked to the lion tamer (for bo's pet lion) and the lion tamer said something to the SWAG (that's right shortend salt water aquarium guy to SWAG). That way we can have a credible source to all this mess.:sarcasm

Are we serious? This rumor has so much asumtion on such little basis, first we have to asume that the QB race is down to only two after just a couple practices, next we have to asume that TMart(a player who redshirted with out complaint last year) would be upset enough to want to transfer over this and sit out a year, thirdly we have to asume that Bo would allow a player to skip practice in order to find another school, and lastly we have to asume that the said player who is now transfering and will never play a snap of husker football returns to practice the next day. I would be willing to stake my reputation that this rumor is complete B.S.

i agree..im hearing the ucla thing as well. I dont think he would be back at practice the next day if he was transfering. You really think he would be invited back to practice?..."ya come on back to practice so you can stay in shape ...here take the playbook with ya when you leave too"...i call BS\

Carl is due to be fired any day now right? ......BS

There are insiders on this board and others with proven track records who infer that this is more than nothing. That being said, whatever happens I think we will be just fine. T-magic is not a starting QB and I agree with jliehr's assessment that we would be better off with a position move. The problem is that Martinez comes off as a "me first" player. That doesn't mean that he can't have great success, it just means that he isn't willing to do anything for the team by sacrificing his own goals. I still remember a conversation with Jeremy Crabtree on Unsportsmanlike Conduct where he stated that Taylor was constantly sending him film and e-mails trying to get him to increase his Rivals ranking. Jeremy laughed about it, and seemed to infer that this was a fairly unusual situation. This was after he verballed. For some reason, that just has never sat very well with me.

  5. I agree and that is what I've been hearing as well. Perhaps nothing will come of this, but I would say that there is a chance that he will not be on the roster by the start of the season.

Wow - what a huge gap in possibilities. From nothing at all to no longer on the team. That pretty much covers every outcome, doesn't it?

Aren't those the only possibilities - either he will be a Husker or he won't? I'm just saying don't try to dismiss this as the kid taking a final or having problems unrelated to his position on the football team.

  6. So if Martinez was taking a final, why not say, "He wasn't able to be here due to classwork," or, "He wasn't able to be here because he had to take a final today."? If it was just that, don't you think Bo would have just said that?

Obviously there's more to the story than just he had to take a final.

I agree and that is what I've been hearing as well. Perhaps nothing will come of this, but I would say that there is a chance that he will not be on the roster by the start of the season.

  7. No use trying to guess why he wasn't there. Speculation doesn't really do any good. It sounds like he is at practice today, so hopefully that is the end of it. If he flakes out like Pat Witt, so be it. If he competes for the job, I'll root for him (and the others as well).

  8. You admittedly are making assumptions about campuses and facilities without any knowledge about them. Recruiting is in a much better place then when this topic was originally created a year ago, so what exactly is the point you are trying to make with your posts?

No point, it's a discussion. The purpose of a forum, am I mistaken? The OP was in regards to Lincoln (and the campus). That's what we are talking about. No real reason to get all worked up over it. Recruiting is slow and it's something to talk about.

I am also fairly confident my assumptions are correct. If you've been to all the campuses and can dispell my assumptions please do. I've been to a couple of them I mentioned above and am confident their facilities match NU's. (Ohio St/Texas/Oklahoma) Just like we can all say Oregon's facilities are superior (yet most of us haven't been there). I think we can assume with $200 million of Boone Picken's money being pumped into Okie St. that their facilities should be able to match NU's. Don't have to be there to confidently state that. $200 million kind of puts Suh's "buy everyone an i-pad" donation seem insufficient.

Recruiting being in a better place than a year ago doesn't make our facilities better, our the campus more attractive. That's for a different discussion. There are plenty of "all hail Bo and his recruiting abilities" topics scattered throughout the recruiting forums. All unarguably justified.

Fair enough. Sorry if I've come off as "worked up", but I guess I don't see the rebirth of this topic as accomplishing much or even being that relevent as to why this topic was created in the first place (recruiting not going well a year ago). FWIW, I've seen Iowa's facilities and Nebraska's are better.

  9. A college campus and the city that it is in are two completely different things.. You could say Miami is nicer than lincoln and you'd be right and wrong in some sense. What makes a campus? Weather? Lincoln as a city itself is not a bad city, don't understand why that's a minus 1... apparently you haven't been on ASU and NU's campus both because I just talked to a friend who goes to ASU and said it's not even close with the trees, but good attempt at that one. What is public transportation? The fact that every UNL student gets FREE bus transportation on any of the campus or city buses? There is a way to get to every class or place you want/need to get to through the bus system. Diversity is lacking, I'll give you that, but diversity is lacking at many campuses throughout the nation.

Since we are talking about the campus/city...what sets it appart? The academic center? Football facilities? 15 years ago maybe, not today. Other BCS schools have closed that gap. It's just not a great selling point recruiting against UCLA, Texas, Ohio St, etc. Which is why we push other things. I imagine the campus is portrayed as a small piece of the puzzle...and any recruit that mentions what the campus lacks is quickly met with a response like "if you see much of the campus while you are here...you aren't spending enough time in the weight/film room"

I disagree about the facilities, when it comes to football anyway, they are elite and do set Neb apart. Byrne lost sight of importance of feeding the cash cow but this was one of the few things Pedey got right. Neb's facilities are comparable to any in the country and better than most. Oregon may have an edge but that is about it.

I agree, they are "comparable" to any in the country, and probably better than most. 15 years ago, there weren't any others comparable though. If you look at the Big10 (and I haven't seen all their facilities so I'm making an assumption here) - I would say Ohio St, Michigan, Penn State all have similar facilities. Maybe Iowa and Wisconsin as well. In the Big12...Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Texas, A&M all have comparable facilities. When were Big8 it was Nebraska, a huge gap, then everyone else.

You admittedly are making assumptions about campuses and facilities without any knowledge about them. Recruiting is in a much better place then when this topic was originally created a year ago, so what exactly is the point you are trying to make with your posts?

  10. You Jayhawk basketball fans really hate Lincoln.

Assuming this was directed at me and sker...and I can assure you that I am about as far from being a Jayhawk fan as they come. Come live in KC for a while and you'll realize how great most Husker fans are. I can respect the Jayhawk basketball fans...most are similar to a Husker fan during football season (educated, informed, passionate, respectful, etc) - the problem with them is they let their pride carry over into football season where it has no place. Huskers know how to munch on humble pie through basketball season - hawks should take note for the fall.

Still, I can seperate my dislike for the Jayhawks, and my love for the Huskers long enough to concede their campus/city has more to offer a college student. A football recruit...probably not when it comes to football specific items. But talking about the campus in general, unfortunately they've got us by a mile. Not everyone can put asside their strong passion for Nebraska and admit that the campus has shortcomings. There's nothing wrong with that - it's why they use the word passionate every time they talk about Husker fans. It's also the same thing that makes me dislike KU fans during football season - reality ceases to exist in their bubble.

I admit that I fall into the category in bold. The University of Nebraska and the Cornhuskers are not separate entities, and I will defend my alma mater until the day I die. I recognize that I am far from impartial, and I really have no desire to be. See the definition of "fanatic".

As for the purpose of the topic, football recruits obviously don't prefer the alure of Lawrence and the KU campus to what Nebraska can offer them.

  11. The whole notion of using so and so as examples of 2 or 3*'s to succeed is an annoying mythical approach set by many nebraska fans when our recruiting is going bad. Everybody uses examples of West Virginia and V-tech, but even then neither of those teams have had national champion squads. While USC, Texas, Florida and Oklahoma have (while also being much more consistent).

From the 2002-2007 classes, Nebraska has had 7 Rivals 3 stars named to either the AP or Coaches all-conference 1st team. There were 74 total 3 star commits from these classes, so 9.5% made 1st team. Nebraska had 3 Rivals 4 stars named 1st team out of a total of 37 four star commits for 8.1%. Over this particular period of time with a fairly good sample size, the 3 stars definitely outperformed the 4 stars as far as 1st team all-conference recognition.

While we have some 3* that will play this year that are very good (prince being a perfect example), a lot of times this can be a simple flaw to the system. Prince didn't go to many camps to get his exposure, his talent was always top notch, but the exposure was not. Same might result in Brent Qvale of North Dakota.

What about the other possible 3-star starters on our preseason top 10 squad - R. Henry, Williams, Sirles, Caputo (not even a 3 star), M. Jones, Helu, Kinnie, McNeill, Cotton, Crick, Allen, Meredith, Fisher, Compton, Dennard, Smith, and West? Crick wasn't even a 1st team all-state player his senior year in Nebraska and his stats were not that great. He is the best player in college football according to SI.

I believe the key is those consistent top 15 classes, thrown in with some under the radar "true athletes". You can't take an under the radar guy that just has huge stats, he needs to have athletic ability. A great year might happen here and there, but to be consistently in the top 10 you need top 15 classes. Factually it hits you directly in the face time after time with statistics.

So you dismiss West Virginia and Virginia Tech above as not having national championship squads, but then state that you need consistent top 15 classes to consistently be in the top 10. Both West Virginia and Virginia Tech have appeared in the final AP top 10 three out of the last 5 years. Only Texas, USC, and Ohio State have more top 10 appearances, and they all have multiple classes in the top 10 (top 5 for USC and Texas).

See my post above comparing Rivals team rankings to Sagarin rankings for the last 2 seasons. If you are going to reference facts, please post them.

  12. Not only was Hickman hurt, but so were Ricky and Marcel for sure, and maybe Williams as well (I've heard conflicting reports). I've also heard that Williams isn't a lock for the starting LG spot.

I remember reading about Callahan's O-line coaching. He would want exact foot placement for the linemen and would make them redo plays in practice if they were inches off. I don't know if this is true or not, but I remember reading direct quotes from a player about this. If a lineman is thinking about such minutiae during the game, they won't be able to focus on the big picture. Changes away from this kind of technique and back to Milt's is not a bad thing.

  13. Committed to Oregon State.

Good for him IMO, I've always been a fan of Mike Riley

oregon state... the hawaii dumping ground for those not talented enough to attend Oregon/Washington

Do you realize Oregon State has beat Washington 6 years in a row?

dont tell me that tell the recruits who always go there........... i'm just telling you where they always seem to want to committ regardless of how good they are or not.... OSU always seems like the back up plan....

Hey, you guys can shut up. Oregon State is a top flight program that's attracted plenty of big time talent in the past such as.... crickets... Simi Kuli. So... yeah. :sarcasm

Maybe not top talent according to the recruiting services, but over the last two years (corresponding with the amount of time Pelini has been our head coach), Oregon State has 8 NFL draft picks compared to our 6.

  14. Committed to Oregon State.

  15. why does scout always make things sound bad?..new article,,"Solid?"

I read on the HI free board that there was a rumor going around that he was going to visit A&M during the season for a game, but he backed out of it. He is still solid though and will be here in december.

He wanted to visit College Station on 11/20. Guess who the Aggies are playing that day.

  16. And KC.... How can you say that you haven't been on a lot of campuses, but you know there are 50-100 you'd rather spend 4 years of your life at. Contradicting statements.

It's not hard to say. I've been to most of the states, just not the actual campuses. Sorry to bash UNL but it's just not a great campus. KU vs. UNL (in my impartial opinion since i'm not an alumni)...KU wins in nearly every category (except gameday during football season, and they make up for it during basketball). I'd take 4-5 FL schools over Nebraska any day, mainly because the cities they are in. Same way with Cali schools, and a few Washington schools. The city is as much a part of the campus as the couple hundred acres it sits on. The city contributes to the campus culture. Culture is certainly something that UNL is extremly lacking. I grew up in Nebraska. Going to visit friends at UNL was no different than my life growing up. Plain, mundane, and the whole place was beef eating, republicans. (which I'm one of but still...).

Arizona State, amazing. Duke, NC, NC State, Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, Virginia Tech - all awesome campuses. Notre Dame - nuff said. Even the Ivy league schools all have campuses that put Nebraskas to shame. How about Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, etc in the Big10? Head and shoulders above UNL.

UNL's campus lacks the architecture that makes numerous other campuses unique. (-1) It lacks the city. (-1) O st. bar scene is nothing to be impressed by, and everything else within 3 miles of the campus is borderline industrial-ghetto. It lacks beauty. (-1) There are more weeds in the grass than lawn. Arizona St. almost has more trees than UNL's campus. The party scene is fairly week in comparison to a campus like Columbia. (-1) History (-1) Weather (-1) Public transportation (-1) Diversity (-1) local jobs post-graduation (-1) Although Omaha is helping with this. Outdoor life (-1)...you could go on an on. There are many great things about the school like some of the facilities for athletes...but since I'm about 75 pounds and 5 inches shy of ever being an football player, me personally...I'd pick another campus to spend my 4 years at. And I could name 50-100...regardless of every seeing them

I'm glad you and SkerChicago don't recruit for the Big Red. Your sales pitches suck. I personally disagree with much of what both of you say, but I'll leave it at that.

  17. Nebraskas weather is unattractive to some, other than that I cant see how our campus would be anything but mindblowing along with the athletic facilities.

Really? It's a nice enough campus, and it's neater now than back when I was in school, but mindblowing? I don't see what would make it so. Mindblowing is something like Duke, or what little I saw of UCLA a few years ago. I do like the UNL campus better than Texas's, though.

Myabe indblowing was a little to much but UNL campus is still one of the tops in the nation. Now that doesnt just mean physical appearence, that includes academics, student services, etc. UCLA's campus is maybe on the same level as UNL's.

I haven't been on a lot of campuses, but I can guarentee you UNL is towards the bottom of my list. Dare I say it - I think Boulder has a better campus, set in the mountains, local community, etc. I would say that in the Big10 we might rank 7th or 8th as far as the campus goes. Nationally there 50-100 I'd much rather spend 4 years of my life at. If every day was gameday, and the entire campus was within a block of Memorial - UNL would improve in those rankings...but since that's not realistic...I'm going to put it WAY below mindblowing.

Completely agree. NU might have great student services but the campus itself is VERY average. I left Nebraska for college and a lot had to do with the campus. I ended up at KU which has a beautiful setting. I wouldn't even compare it to NU...not even in the same discussion.

Really? I guess the last thing I cared about when I was 19 and choosing a school were the aesthetics of the campus. I went to Lincoln, had some of the best and most memorable times of my life, went to every Husker home game, and I wouldn't change a thing.
