I know Watson has shown a few signs of being OK but I still can't get past the fact that it seems like the stats are padded on teams we should hammer and we look inept against equal opponents.
I think we had ONE TD against top tier teams this year and that was a scintillating 1 yard TD drive against OU.
VTech-zilch
Texas-zilch
OU-once
One could throw in Mizzou at the time and that was a miracle more than anything.
I think we need someone that can generate sustained drives and control the ball a little. Last year was good but nobody can honestly say we have to wait for 5th year players to hold positions before we can expect results.
Watson may be OK, I just don't think he is the right fit here. That's not a bad or derogatory thing, it just...is.

Does anyone have info on C. Martin?
Moved out here to Aurora, Colorado for his senior year. Watched him play a few times. Big kid but didn't seem to dominate as expected. Seemd a little reckless but a big hitter.

Plenty of people grow up as bad and worse than he did and with less opportunities than he had. He turned into a dope dealer and a murderer (he may not have pulled the trigger but he was in on the crime). I don't feel bad for him, or feel sad that he threw away his life. I'm glad he's in prison forever and will never have the chance to hurt another innocent person as long as he lives. Just one man's opinion.
Another drug dealer is an innocent person?

Don't you have a kick ass Tunnel Walk you need to be working on instead of worrying about this???? Priorites, man, priorities.

I think the Interlocken is where they had the whore parties. that would be a good place apparently.
-
He won't play until the Bowl game.
-
It would seem strange that any kid, in his prime, would take crap from a fat out of shape guy. Should've just put the big man out of his misery the 1st time he touched him,if true.

I like his size and running abilities. Gabbert WHO?
Damaged goods. Just had a concussion where he was out cold for 2 hrs.

With some of the recruiting attention that Enunwa is getting recently, if he gets asked to grey-shirt I could see him decommitting.
Cotton is DEFINATELY a candidate to greyshirt, I would say Tyler Evans as well. I dont think Ciante will. But like I said above, I will be willing to be you that room will be made for kids either naturally or coaches will make the decision for them.
You have to think that Okafor might be one that will opt out.
Ya, Enunwa isn't a secret anymore. If we try to get him to greyshirt somebody will likely make a run at him, they may anyway.
I do think Okafor will pull the trigger and move-on. Probably time for a couple others to do the same
I can see Barney telling his kid to take one for the team.
We shouldn't forget that we'll already have Mack greyshirting so we can't afford to get too greyshirt-happy
I thought Mack went JUCO because certain classes didn't transfer.

Someone needs to post a photo of Mangino yelling at that player like he is gonna eat him and match it to a picture of an Anaconda dislocating its jaw to swallow something....or a Mangina and a Vagi..nevermind.

dude, maybe he will be a good player. Its not like some of the lower rated recruits have never stepped up and played like champs. bring him on. lets see what hes got. hes probably been to plenty of games, so he knows what it means to be a husker.
Go find a 0 star recruit that has made it into the NFL. Knowing what it means to be a husker doesnt just make athleticism appear. This is a bust
For the love of Pete, please tell me you are kidding before you get embarrassed. How many stars did Shannon Sharpe have? DO you even know where he came from? I can name a bunch more if you like...Bret Favre...cripes, the NFL, past and present, is littered with guys from small scholls, etc...
How about Brandon Marshall? Jason Taylor? Joe Flacco?
I'm more concerned with everyone thinking kids have to be able to contribute NOW. I think some are taken with a long view in mind.
Never seen the kid play but I cannot fathom that there is no reason, other than he is Barney's kid that he was offered. I just can't imagine coaches do this in the Win Now environment of today.
Kurt Warner? Jerry Rice? Bruce Schoenefer? Steve McNair?
Ok, not Bruce. He was my college roommate after he transferred from a small school in Kansas. He did have to cover jerry Rice in a game and gave up 6 TD passes to him.

A friend of mine was one of the ref's in his Norfolk game....says he was a dominate force in the game...for whatever that is worth. Could they be looking at him as a DE, not at DL???
Plus, hard to ignore his size.
Sometimes you guys remind me of the Villagers in Frankenstein. Just get on up the hill with the 'forks and torches and get it over with.
Was this Board around when Zach Wiegert got a scholly? I could be wrong but I think his rating was fairly non-existent.
Not that his guy is Zach...but give a guy a chance.
Do any of you intentionally screw up if you have a great job?
-
Being from Illinois and with Zook at UI, i would expect this to be a tough battle for him.
Yeah, say what you want about Zook, but the guy can recruit with the best of them. It doesn't matter how crappy their team is playing, he still pulls in top classes.
As unbelievable as it seems, it's true. But it sounds like he's seriously considering NU now.
i saw that HI had some stuff on about his visit... anyone got any clues about what he said about his visit

That return was huge. Not as huge as the OU kicker's inability to put the ball the through the uprights though. If he makes those kicks, we would have lost.
Not if you factor in Alex's miss. We win 13-12. Alex missing was much more of a surprise than the OU kicker, especially when you consider our ability to block kicks.

I'm pretty sure our coaches know all about Crick, I figure they've watched some game film by now, but hey, that's just pure speculation.
well you can't double team both of them.
Didn't seem to be a problem for Iowa State.
Yiou apparently didn't watch the game.
-
Haha, these guys are going to get Crick Rolled and they don't even know it yet.
Who was the Nebraska Player that Brian Bozworth said, "He won't be able to lay a finger on me" and then Bozworth got pancaked and the Nebraska player did a circular motion with his finger and touched Bozworth on the nose.
Let OU do the talking. Hopefully it will turn around and bite them in the butt.
Wasn't Bosworth. It was the QB, Holieway, I believe. Said it about Danny Noonan.
-
My take is that he isn't "sold" yet. Every big decision in my life has been made when the positives far out weigh the negatives.
Do you think he watched the Iowa State game ... ?
There's my answer.
I'm still with Big Willie ... patience ...
But I'd also like to see our Huskers sell him on the idea of why he should come to Nebraska ... we will see what kind of heart we bring to the game this weekend.
SheepdogMark
It may be more accurate to say maybe WE aren't sold yet.

I don't really get the whole Callahan connection thingy. This offense is exactly what Watson ran at CU under Barnett. He may have worked with Callahan for a bit in the past but this is Watson's baby.
The CU fans were always screaming about the 35 yard horizontal passes for a 3 yard gain on 3rd and 7 as well.
-
Well, I was actually just wondering what other coaches on this staff were recommended. Everyone but Pap/Ek/Beck/CP? Not all of the recommendations were bad, I am assuming. I've been in Watson's corner the whole way. Actually kind of wish we still had Lee starting. It'll take some time to come around to Green, I guess.
Also, who were the recruits Barney ran off? Hoch/Givens, or non-OL recruits?
As I said, not going down this road again because of what happened last time.
Search my posts back to about last year. I discussed it a bit before people went nuts that I even suggested it.
I thought Coach Pelini and Cotton were on Solich's staff together and that was the reason Cotton got the call. How does that not make him "Bo's guy"?
You are correct.
Cotton is definately Bo's guy. Anyone not retained from the previous staff is Bo's guys.
He is incorrect as are you. Barney was recommended to Bo and was not someone Bo originally asked to be put on his staff.
Willie, I vaguely remember reading somewhere that Bo tried to get Miles to hire Cotton @ LSU when he went there. Is that just an old rumor?
It would seem odd that Cotton would play for some of the best O-line folks and then not be able to produce a competent line. Is it more that he is not a good complement to the Watson O?.
Also, Are you sold on Watson? Even out here in Colorado, it seemd like his offense performed well and padded stats against the ne'er do wells but stalled in the "big" games. Seems like his issue here as well. That may just be athletes I 'spose cuz the same was said about Osborne and crew many times.

Not to begrudge any former Husker football player and definately a past All American, but isn't JP a former drug (heroin) addict who has had some major issues over the years? Kudo's to anyone that has met and tackled their demons. I even agree with some of his assessments....................but................ sorry, I think he's a space cadet. The dude has some cells missing just below his nice new haircut. Flame me all you want. It's just my opinion and that's all it's worth. But I was somewhat taken aback when I watched the show last night. Am I wrong?
You would be correct. The next time I take advice from a former addict will be the 1st time, regardless of their past credentials.

Lee's pass completions are akin to an Option QB successfully pitching the ball.
I would guess 60% or more of his completions are in the 5 yard range.
His % is highly overrated.
-
I find it funny how so many forget how they yelled for Joe Dailey after he completed a few passes in scrub time. Lord sucked, we want the new guy!!!!
Solich said...Lord is the best we got.
Careful what you wish for.

I also find it funny that the next guy is always "this was the guy at the top of my wish list" or "this guy is a must have recruit" Mysteriously, many of these are not the "must haveplayers" on the pre-season lists. Santa is gonna get confused at this rate if you keep chaning the wish list.
I don't think the 2 we lost are a big deal but it is funny how these guys are like drugs to some. Keep chasing the next high.
