If you want a competitive game, might want to let the coach know to start his 3rd and 4th stringers and give the 1st and 2nd units the week off.

The Badgers could start me at Safety and not have to worry about losing.

    Same s#!t different toilet.

I think the toilet needs to be flushed (several years of recruiting) so to speak to shake out those who are not on board or hurting this team with undisciplined play.  I stand by this team and the coaching staff no matter how much more ugly this season gets.

  3. New coaches, new system, a prior losing season, the first game cancelled, facing a team who can surprise good teams, a walk on 4th string QB and 50+ new players and the 0-2 start is not a huge surprise.  It looks like we go at least  0-3 before we start to see better days.  We have the right coach at the helm, we have to give him plenty of time to right the ship and hand pick players for several recruiting classes.  Did anyone watch Ohio State last night?  How many players of their caliber do you think we have right now?

  4. I hate to say it, but we are reaping what we sowed back in 2003.  I was 100% against that firing...  If we do get Frost, there could be immediate improvement.  What I fear for him though is unrealistic expectations and or non acceptance of a below average season.  No matter how good a coach is, there are just going to be some off years due to key injuries, bad luck, recruiting busts , poor player leadership and chemistry.

Bo peaked in 2009. We got embarrassed by Wisconsin multiple times (including 6-7 team). Anytime a coaching staff celebrates they got to 9 wins is crap. We literally can go 11-1. We have no idea how this season pans out.

Well, are going to go 10-2 now?

We had this conversation when Randy Gregory got busted.

We had this conversation when Stanley Morgan, Jr. got busted.

We'll have this same conversation when the next player gets busted.

Same people making the same arguments, some guys coming out of the woodwork to take potshots at our players, all of it's the same.

Since we're dancing this same dance, again, I'll put my money in the juke box and play a song, too:

    Pot should be legal.

Pot is not currently legal (most places).

    So don't smoke pot.

Well, pot should not be legal.

Pot is not currently legal (most places).

    So don't smoke pot.

If pot shouldn't be legal, neither should Alcohol. In fact it impairs you worse than weed and serves no medical purpose... Should we go back to the prohibition days then?

I know that it will never happen again (prohibition), but can you think of how many LESS traffic deaths and nonsense there would be if there were no alcohol? Even under prohibition there was still drinking... I am one of the few who think pot should not be legalized... It is more of a what is next for legalization argument.

I figure it's Lee, since he's got the experience and POB hasn't separated from him. Either way, we have a rookie to break in and there will be rookie mistakes. 7 wins tops next season because of this.

Although Lee is new to Nebraska and to this particular system, he is far from a rookie.

You are right. He could be the second coming of Sam Keller.

  8.

    Best of luck to him.

I was wondering what former Cornhusker had the longest playing time in the NFL. I thought maybe Mick Tingelhoff or the offense lineman for the Washington Redskins. He was one of the "hogs". Can't remember his name. Just curious.

    GBR!!!

Pat Fischer played 16 years at cornerback. For the Cardinals and Redskins. Don't think he had the longest career, but it was right up there.

My guess would have been Shields, but he did not play for 16 seasons.

  9. DVDCRR, what is the purpose of your post? From what I can gather, you are saying that 2 coaches with better records were fired...why hasn't Riley been fired? Maybe I am wrong...

I was not a fan of the Riley hire at the beginning, but have warmed up to the hire. Right now, we do not have the talent on both lines to win the game that "matter". Unless a coach is losing terribly every season, you have to give them several recruiting cycles as well as a few QBs. We are still on the last staff's QB, and he is going to be sorely missed next season. I would not be surprised if we go 6-6 next year and this is not a knock on the staff.

Poor punt return strategy is not new to just the past couple years. A few years back we had the top 'fair catcher' in the country (I forget his name right now but recall he was the Illinois high school player of the year when we recruited him. Giving up first downs when the opponent converts a fake punt is very frustrating but over playing to prevent that to the point of never having a shot at punt returns is not good either.

We have a bunch of good receivers this year who can catch the ball. Put a second guy back to field the punts that are hard to field and or to protect and block somebody when we do catch the ball. We need to be aggressive in punt return game instead of always fair catching it. If we don't intend to return the punt, then you should call all out block attempts sometimes to keep the punt play honest by the opponent as well.

You need to go for two on those 'swinging gate' (name ???) extra point alignments now and then or they look nonsensical. I am more afraid we'll get a penalty for illegal formation or motion or time delay or something.

    You mean Westerkamp?

I think he means this guy: http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=68192

  11. Analysis time.

We pay $450K a year for illegal formations, -2 yard punts, and no blocking effort whatsoever. Fire him.

Minnesota has a talent loaded offense, and last night was no exception. Our defense had many problems last night. Our run defense performed decent compared to what was expected, as Minnesota's run game is good. Our secondary was awful in the first half, then better with some still-awful spots in the second. Too many men left wide open, and I noticed on one crucial 3rd down Chris Jones was standing behind the receiver on a very good pass, accepting the fact that it would be caught for a 1st down and just tackling him. That should not happen. Sticking with 3rd downs, just wow. Our 3rd down defense in the standings is down there with Maryland, Rutgers, and Michigan State. I'm not saying "Fire Banker," but that definitely needs to be worked on soon.

Playcalling yesterday was questionable in some areas, such as passing on 3rd and 1 in the red zone, but definitely improved from the past 3-4 games. I also like the inclusion of screens, which I thought Tommy executed well for the most part. And look at Newby being our star RB. I still don't like the fact that we use him up the middle, but Minnesota clearly has a not-so-good up the middle defense.

Glad to have our offensive line back. Definitely made a huge difference.

Who's ready to get a reliable backup QB next year? :hellloooo

Might need to concentrate on who the starter is first. :)

The committee has never said the conference championship is the only factor. If it was there wouldn't be a committee. So yes they can put OSU in ahead of PSU. And it absolutely does not mean the conference championships don't matter. They are a very important factor among other factors. OSU very well could get in without winning it. The only reason this was an issue once is there were 5 teams with good arguments for going. But OSU had won their championship and Baylor/TCU had not.

OSU and those teams had identical records. OSU and PSU do not. Louisville/Clemson and PSU do not.

Winning the conference championship is very important but so is the number of losses. We don't know what weight is put on those things because they were comparing 2 1-loss teams before and considered which 1-loss team had won a conference championship.

I'm not saying PSU won't make it in but I find it unlikely no Big Ten team would make it in as long as there are no more big upsets.

PSU has head to head AS WELL. Theres the problem.

PSU has head to head and be the conference champion. PSU would have to get in too. If they don't, then I'll quit watching CFB. Because what else could PSU do?

    Not lose 2 games...

  13. Never understood the hate for Herby. He's probably one of the better cfb analyst, and rarely has any bias. The dude just enjoys the game. He always compliments the Huskers when they deserve it.

Yeah I know he had his GOAT flip out, but that was so long ago...

and if we would have pulled out the win, he would have been gushing about Nebraska.
