  1. Am I the only one that thinks Dennard is a better CB than Amukamara?

Sure, Amukamara doesn't get tested much... But Dennard doesn't either simply because he is like a part of the WR's jersey.

I think Dennard is the sexy pick for Husker fans in this debate. Prince is better. He covers the best receiver. He's more athletic. Obviously Dennard has the stats but Prince rarely gets thrown to and when he does he usually bats it down.

  2. To me and doesn't look like a bash on Dennard, but on Hagg, Gomes, etc. Looks like he is saying Dennard will be occupied with Uzoma giving opportunities to Ryan Swope and Kenric McNeal...just the way I read it anyways

No cuz he's saying how good Prince is, then uses the word 'but' so-and-so will occupy Dennard. It's definitely saying Dennard will have his hands full with this receiver and probably won't succeed. lols to that.

But his main point is this:

...opportunities over the middle should be there for slot men Ryan Swope and Kenric McNeal, as well as tight end Nehemiah Hicks and Gray out of the backfield. Ryan Tannehill will find them enough to help the Aggies spring the upset and finish the season strong.

He's not saying Dennard will have trouble, he's merely saying Dennard will have his hands full with Nwachukwu leaving the middle of the field open hence frazier's reference to it being more a knock on Hagg, Gomes, etc.

Ah I gotcha now. That does seem to be what he's trying to say then.

  4. This is his Reason #4 why A&M beats Nebraska this week:

    4) Missouri doesn't have the talent at receiver to get open, but Texas A&M does. Jeff Fuller probably won't have a big day against Prince Amukamara, but Uzoma Nwachukwu will occupy Alfonzo Dennard, and opportunities over the middle should be there for slot men Ryan Swope and Kenric McNeal, as well as tight end Nehemiah Hicks and Gray out of the backfield. Ryan Tannehill will find them enough to help the Aggies spring the upset and finish the season strong.

Does he not realize how good Dennard is? Possibly as good or better than Prince? Also doesn't realize how good Hagg and Gomes are apparently with his over the middle comment. Lavonte will definitely be the wild card this week deciding how our defense performs whether its covering a slot receiver/running back, or plugging holes in the running game.

  5. Who is sick and tired of seeing statistics of women's basketball being compared to men's? They keep talking about the UConn streak almost breaking the record set by Wooden's UCLA team! How is this even comparable? They are two different sports! As much of a joke that I think women's sports are, even if you take a non-sexist view they are two completely different sports. You don't compare Arena Football statistics to NFL do you? Who's the home run king? It's Barry Bonds (or Hank Aaron), not that Japanese guy that hit 800 some! They are different sports and aren't comparable. They showed a graphic during the Duke game today about today's highest scorers in college basketball, and Maya Moore was on top of the list with 30 points. Under her were all men's players that scored however many points today. I'm sick of these two being compared to each other.

Winning is an entirely different statistic than anything else inside of a game. Winning is relatively just as hard for women as it is for men. Get over yourself.

Ok I'll be sure to do that. Aside from getting over myself, how is winning even comparable? There is clearly less talent in women's basketball than there is in men's. If you want to call that sexist then so be it, but it is a fact. Since there is less talent, all of the top notch talent goes to only a few schools. UConn happens to be one of them along with Duke, UNC, and Baylor. Is the 80 game win streak impressive? Yes it is. It hasn't been done before in their specific sport. But is it comparable to Wooden's record? Not even close.

Cal Ripken must be way more durable than Brett Favre.

    Ripken's consecutive starts: 2632

    Favre's consecutive starts: 294

Until this streak of UConn hits 300+, please don't compare it to UCLA's.

    You're the one comparing, dude.

There is less talent in women's basketball than men's basketball, which means the teams aren't as good, but it also means the teams that win aren't as good. Your argument is the same as me arguing that high school football playoffs are ridiculous because you can't compare a high school state championship to a college or professional conference or national championship, because the players aren't as good. Or, going further, saying that Nebraska's 1970 national championship is pointless and worthless since modern day football championships are way more impressive.

It's relative. The UConn women's basketball team is more relatively better than it's competition than UCLA, or any other college basketball team of either gender, ever has been. There is absolutely no sense in arguing to a fine point what kind of merit that deserves (it sounds like i was doing that in my first post, but I wasn't. Bad words on my part) or doesn't deserve.

I understand your argument, but when a High School team wins a certain amount of championships, they don't compare it to how many national championships a college team has. Does anybody ever say Nebraska is one National Championship away from tying the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowls? Then they shouldn't be saying UConn is 8 away from UCLA. They should say UConn is extending the all-time women's record for consecutive games won. What really made me mad though was showing a graphic that included Maya Moore's points today with all the men's points. Just annoying that people feel they have to be politically correct rather than admitting that these two sports don't belong together.

And when I'm speaking of talent in women's basketball I'm saying there is top talent. There are great players, but the difference from the great players and the average players is huge. In men's, the average players at middle pack schools can beat the great talent any day because the competition is so close. But in women's, there are a few amazing players that are far better than the average players and all those amazing players only go to a few different schools. That's why it's so easy for UConn to win this much.

  8. in a way i liked the article but definitely very creepy of chatelain to be following him around to that extent. weird that he knew he put a napkin on his lap before eating. was he on the bus with him? pretty strange.

  9. The most fun moments of my life occur in Memorial Stadium. During a Husker game I am more excited and having the most fun, exhilarating time of my life. There is no way I will ever drink before or during a Husker game. For me, drinking is for socializing and I don't socialize at games. I watch the game, scream loudly, and usually have several anxiety attacks. Socializing/partying comes after the game if we win. Drowning myself in my sorrows if we lose.

  10. My same source that said last week that Cody was starting and Zac was out for the year told me this the other night:

Cody really did have a concussion and the team is really keeping quiet about it. If so I'm extremely disappointed in the coaching staff for allowing him to play after the hit he took.

Zac Lee still is confirmed to be out for the season. He would definitely be the second string if he were healthy.

Taylor is starting today and is not 100%. He'll need surgery after the season but can get through this season before he has to (similar to Zac last year). He doesn't know if Cody will be able to go today as the back-up. If he can't go I've been seeing that the next guy would be.. gulp.. Ron Kellogg. I watched this guy in high school and he honestly wasn't all too impressive. Can't imagine him playing a D-1 game at Memorial Stadium.

I think the highlighted part needs to be taken with a grain of salt. There was another member that had said similiar things about Martinez at one point and look how that turned out. The kid wouldn't be at NU period if he wasn't at least "decent" in some aspect of the game.

You definitely make a good point, but Martinez was the California high school player of the year. He was great at what he did and we just didn't believe that his talents would transfer to a D-1 QB. Obviously we were wrong. Ron Kellogg wasn't even a very good Nebraska high school QB. I've seen players like Jared Hyland at Burke, Philip Bates at North, Daryle Hawkins at Central, Tyler Seals at Bell West and they were all what I would call "impressive" high school QBs (at least for Nebraska standards). Ron Kellogg doesn't belong with those guys. But you are right the coaches must have seen something when offering him a walk-on opportunity.

  11. John Talman says Heard isn't responding to his texts about ACT scores. Apparently the test scores just came out recently for Heard's most recent ACT. If he's not talking about the score, it can't be good.

Seriously after 4 or 5 tries you can't get an 18 or whatever he needs? It sounds like the kid is busting his you-know-what off but he just doesn't have the brains. I hope he really is trying his hardest and not just blowing off his studying for the test.

Not everyone has scores yet from the test, they just came available for some last week, not all.

Yeah I heard that. Let's hope that's the case.

  14. We don't know how good either one is until he puts on a Husker uniform. Very premature. Maybe Brion Carnes is better.

How about we let them actually get in here first, then go through a camp (since if Bubba gets here, he wont be participating in spring ball i would assume...), then see how they do before we anoint either one... would hate to see another Green situation play out.. so much hype that he can't get the chance to grow.

You're right, maybe we should just get rid of the recruiting section entirely since it's pointless to discuss anything regarding "potential" Husker players. I really feel terriable because I know it was Huskerboard that stunted Green's development. It's all our fault. At least we can take comfort in knowing that Owa's 2750 post thread only did damage to UCLA and his chances to ever become the player he could have been.

Are you kidding me? When did I say that we stunted his growth? It's the same thing that happened with Marlon Lucky. People over hype him, and no matter what he does in his career, short of winning the heisman and a national title, it isn't good enough. I made a statement saying maybe we should see what they do before we know who we want out there more. Green is a damn sophomore for God's sake. True Sophomore. Most kids aren't starting by that point. Instead, people are expecting him to be a stud, and not allowing him to make mistakes that kids will make. He get's bashed. On your sarcastic point though, think about it. Do you not think everyone ragging on him has some effect on his mentality? Look at Niles. Would he have deleted his facebook had it not bothered him?

I'm on both of your sides. I agree that we as fans should be able to talk about recruits and speculate as to what they could do here. At the same time, it does lead to over-hyping a player. If Marlon Lucky were a 3-star recruit and produced the way he did, he would be loved. Since he was a 5-star, he's the biggest bust of all time. It's too bad it has to be that way. But still I enjoy talking about recruits so I'm going to keep doing it.

  15. How about people that think we as fans have to focus on the Kansas game just not look at these Texas A&M threads or whatever thread it may be? If you are so focused on Kansas then don't read this thread. This is a message board! I, for one, would like to talk about the Texas A&M game because I am a fan. If I were a player, I'd focus on Kansas.

This match-up was made a lot easier when Christine Michael got a season-ending injury. Now we can focus a lot more on stopping the pass, which shouldn't be too difficult. I would have compared Texas A&M to Okie State offensively if Michael were in the lineup. Instead their offense is more similar to Missouri's now, lacking an explosive running game. I know Cyrus Gray is still there, but there's no doubt their offense took a hit with Michael's injury. Defensively, they are also similar to Okie St, which is a good thing.

With a healthy Martinez, I'd give my way too early score prediction: Neb 45 TAMU 24

  16. My head tells me Bubba because of his body but Turner just seems so electric, not to mention a better passer (based on HS stats). That's all I got. Thoughts?

Really? I know he (Turner) had 8 touchdown passes but also had 8 interceptions in 2010. His junior year he had 13 touchdown passes but threw 10 interceptions. He threw another 8 picks his sophomore season. By comparison Starling threw 18 touchdowns last year and only had 6 interceptions.

I don't see Turner as a division 1 quarterback. I see him being utilized another way. Just my opinion.

I'm not saying Turner is a better passer. It just seems that way whenever I see the weekly stat check on Rivals. Yeah he throws some interceptions, but his team is dreadful so that's on his offensive line and receivers too. Bubba literally throws no more than 4 passes per game, and a lot of times I see the stat line of 1 for 4 for 20 yards and an INT. Maybe it's because Bubba's team doesn't need to throw since they run all over teams, but I would trust Jamal as a passer more because he throws it 20-30 times per game in HS.
