Yeah we really need to improve the run defense. Even more we need to do something different against teams with running QB's they have been shredding us.

  2. Someone was asking about defensive leaders for this coming year. Probably not Rose this time around but I'd bet he'll be there sooner rather than later.

He is going to have guys looking over their shoulder from day one. Competition will make everyone better.

No doubt! This guy is going to be a beast. I can't for him to get onto the field.

  3. Supposedly he and Alexander will be starting-out at db.

Glad we LSU didn't have last-minute room for Moore like USC did with Shelton. This kid is a player.

Glad to hear they will be playing DB, that's what i was hoping for.

  4. IMO best wr-recruit we've had in a long time. Could be the go-to receiver we've needed for so long. We desperately need a playmaker that consistently catches the rock.

Seems like a reasonable prediction to me. Westerkamp sure had a great HS career and seemingly the sky is the limit. He is another of these guys that we as NU fans should be very happy to have join us. NU really needs a bigger quality WR with hands. We needed this badly. Jordan seems like a great candidate for fulfilling this need for NU. Seems to me that he could play almost immediately --- of course, he might not --- but among this years class he seems as likely as any (save for perhaps the two JC's) to be an immediate contributor.

I would guess he gets redshirted but then again I didn't see all of our freshmen running backs playing this year either.

  5. is this kid legit or did he just get an offer because of peat?

I think he is the best pure pass rusher out of HS* since Ankrah in '09. He has some major work to do in the run game, but off the edge he will be a factor. FWIW he was a 5.7 3 :star .1 away from a 4 :star 33rd ranked DE. According to Rivals.

BTW not a slight on McMullen, he is the better all around DE.

    Edit: Among Nebraska recruits.

Who is better --- Greg or Avery --- that is hard to say. Both had limited film to assess. They were in differnt places with differnt levels of competition. So, really we have no way of saying....

But both appear promising. Both "legit." and both will have the chance to play a major role soon.

Greg is by far the better prospect out of HS. But what we need to realize is that Avery started playing football his Jr. year in HS (which he broke his hand). He impressed scouts basically in his Sr. year alone. This kid has plenty of potential

No doubt Greg is a fantastic play that i'm totally pumped for but I really excited to see what Avery can become....lot of potential

  6. How did you figure out the point values of each recruit?

coded out the formula (i have it from a couple seasons ago) - plugged in this years guys, plugged in our hopefuls in order of my personal confidence, and boom...rivals points. :)

That my friend, is very impressive. Good luck trying crack 247's formula

    The Formula

    team-ranking-explanation.gif

where c is a specific team's total number of commits and Rn is the 247Rating of the nth-best commit

    Explanation

Each recruit is weighted in the rankings according to a Gaussian distribution formula (a bell curve), where a team's best recruit is worth the most points. You can think of a team's point score as being the sum of ratings of all the team's commits where the best recruit is worth 100% of his rating value, the second best recruit is worth nearly 100% of his rating value, down to the last recruit who is worth a small fraction of his rating value. This formula ensures that all commits contribute at least some value to the team's score without heavily rewarding teams that have several more commitments than others.

Readers familiar with the Gaussian distribution formula will note that we used the value 6 for σ because this was the standard deviation for total number of commits between schools as they were ranked during the 2011 recruitment year, the year this formula was developed. This standard deviation creates a bell curve with an inflection point near the average number of players recruited per team.

Below is a graphical representation of how our formula works. You can see that the area under the curve gets smaller both as the rating for a commit decreases and as the number of total commits for a school increases. The y-axis in this graph represents the percentage weight of the score that gets applied to an overall team ranking.

O yeah, that's why I have Scout :steam

  8. Very good. You're in the same boat with 95% of us other fans that see things with common sense and not a shadow.

I never paid much attention to recruiting until yesterday, and the feeling I get is that this may be one of the most underrated classes in the country. "We only have 17 :ahhhhhhhh " Didnt big bad Urban get only 16 at AnOhio School. It may be a low number, but there a lot of quality players in the class, in a year that only offered a total of around 35 5 stars anyway (depending on who you read) I personally think recruting rankings for teams are a joke the way they are figured. Dont know how we ended up but according to rivals rankings I figured Nebraska to be 3rd in the nation based on average ranking, that was right before the Peat announcement. but since we have small number we're much lower. Maybe we should sign 30 2 stars and give 10 more schollies to walkon caliber players so we can be number 1 and things will be fine.

Funny how people don't talk more about oversigning in the media. I think outside the lines should report on that. O but they like SEC schools.

  9. "Beck told me where the offense is going — and how they're going to institute throwing the ball a lot more," Jordan said. "And where I can fit in — I can play all over the field. X, Z, whatever. Inside or outside. It was a great opportunity. Everything Coach Beck and I talked about made me feel more comfortable."

As much as I defend Martinez from undeserved/unbased criticism, that scares me a little bit. But with a guy like Westerkamp, you can't just leave him to block all day long.

Maybe it means Martinez is getting much better at passing or his days are numbered if he doesn't shape up somewhat

Martinez isn't a good *looking* passer. By any means. But he had a lot of catchable passes dropped by receivers. A LOT. The ball was there--our guys just failed to pull it in. Let's hope Mr. Westerkamp helps us out in this regard. The guy is supposed to have glue fingers.

Let's hope the glue doesn't fall off the moment he walks on campus. Liked his interview on Sports Nightly, can't wait to see the kid in action.

The thing I can't get past with Martinez is when we get in 3rd and long I am always worried he is going to throw a pick. I would say is most effective passing plays are when the defense bites on a run fake and we go deep. His intermediate passing game isn't that good. Hopefully he can improve next year.

  10. Our DE's run around like they have a diaper full of.....

The front line of the entire D is slooooooow.

They usually can not catch the QB but at least they chase them out of the pocket.....that's not always good though either :hmmph

Is anyone else worried about QB's who can run? We can't seem to stop them very well. If Miller hadn't gone down I don't think we win vs Ohio St.

  11. Just don't understand we people think a bunch of kids are going to want to get back out there and try their best where thier fans turn their back on them. One middle-aged guy said he can boo if he wants to because he paid big money for his tickets.... WOW, stay classy memorial stadium. :S Thought for a moment I was back in Madison.

What's wrong with Madison? They may be a bit vulgar, but at least they know how to get a stadium rocking. And so one middle aged guy was acting like a clown...that means the whole of Memorial Stadium wasn't "classy"?

agreed, one guy doesn't describe everyone. I don't have a problem with a little booing but when the team is leaving the field we should be encouraging them.

  12. One thing this thread shouldn't become is an out to get Pelini thread. The defense is back to the way it should be in just a short amount of time. Give him time and have faith. Next year we can get out the torches.

  13. Guys don't get me wrong because I'm not a big Lee fan but he didn't play awful. He is an average QB who has trouble looking downfield and likes to check down way to often. I would have liked to see Green get some reps. I know Green is going to make more mistakes than Lee but after watching the Texas Tech game it looks like he might actually throw the ball downfield. I'm also tired of seeing Lee run QB reads and get 2 yards. But this game can't all be pinned on Lee. We are expecting greatness from a average guy. We need to run the ball more...and if Helu wasn't banged up like Bo said why didn't he get more carries?

  14. I don't know if our WR aren't getting open or not but if doesn't help that Lee is afraid to throw it downfield. At least Green tried to get it down the football field, give him a first team reps the rest of the season and he will benefit from it. I doubt the offense can play any worse.
