  1. Maybe I am in the complete minority here, but I truely do believe our offense and TMart have shown improvements in areas every week.

I also liked some of the new wrinkles we showed with Eric Martin playing almost like a LB/DL hybrid in behind our front 3 or 4.

I completely agree. The offense has definitely gotten better week to week. I'd say the Washington game was a huge step in the right direction.

  2. I've actually watched Wisconsin all year long. I think defensively we have the edge. I don't think their defense is all that good. They have not allowed a lot of points, but in watching the games, they have been exposed defensively quite a few times. Especially when teams run the ball to the edge. Their speed and pursuit to the edge seems to be lacking. I also thing our WR's will match up well against their secondary, but again, we have to be able to get our guys the ball.

Offensively, I say Wisconsin has the edge. That QB Wilson has looked very very good. Very good pocket presence. Calm and cool in the pocket. He tends to extend plays instead of breaking down and running across the line of scrimmage he will extend the play and find the open reciever. Expect to see that in the Nebraska game. We will flush him from the pocket and he will make plays. I know I'm just whining again, but that's how I see it. They have a decent receiving corps, though I think Dennard will be able to handle that hyped up WR Nick Toon. Their running backs are incredible though. They are fast and elusive. It seems their offensive line does very well too. Considering we have been exposed defensively in the run game, I would expect a heavy dose of that offensive line gashing some holes.

I think we will have to score some points to win this one. Might be a high scoring game. As long as we don't turn the ball over too many times this one could come down to the wire. That's coming from a guy who has watched 2 whole Wisconsin games and about a half of another.

  3. I just don't understand what the Martinez haters think they're going to accomplish by complaining about him nonstop. Its not like their whining is going to improve his play.

Exactly what I was talking about. You can't have the opinion that Martinez needs to improve. Nope that is just COMPLAINING, or WHINING or BITCHING or being too DRUNK, or YOU MUST BE TOO YOUNG TO REMEMBER THE OLD DAYS......blah blah blah give it a rest.

So I guess when Pelini tells the reporters at the end of the game that we have a lot of areas to improve on, the reporters need to turn to Bo and say " AH QUIT YER BITCHIN'"!

  4. We were discussing this Martinez situation the other night and I can see some very similar opinions and comments posted here as were on the post about his throwing motion. Some say Martinez is good. Some say he is adequate, some say he is terrible, and some say he needs to improve his passing game. I do notice one constant nagging thing about this whole topic that really bothers me though......and it's the same people usually repeating these things. Why are those of us who do not think Martinez is as great as some of you do, that we must be either stupid, uninformed, too young to know better, ignorant, asinine, clueless, troublemakers, or drunk off their ass or so on and so forth. What kind of adults cannot view another's opinion and state their disagreement without that kind of childish crap? I don't get it, but it seems to be the way of things around here so I will continue stating my opinion and putting up with the negativity of some of you. I am of the opinion that the original poster has hit the nail on the head in most every one of his comments and if you read my comments on the other thread, I would say we damn near echo each other........Martinez might be a great straight line runner, he has no real moves, no jukes, no shake and bakes, he better have a damn good hole to hit and then he turns on the jets....That's great. But the best point of the night was that yes, Wyoming's QB was by far the better QB on the field tonight, along with the other QB"s we have played thus far. Wait til' you all see Russell Wilson next week. Talk about a dual threat! This offense could be amazing with any of the QB"s on the opposing teams of this years first 5 games. That Washington kid would light the world on fire here in Nebraska in my opinion. Like I said the other night....it's sad if at the University of Nebraska, Martinez is the best we can do at QB. You say he accounts for seventy percent of our offense, but if you really think that is how Beck wants this offense to look, then I have to disagree. I don't think Beck wants the QB running the ball 2 of 3 downs. That series in the game where Martinez threw 3 incompletions straight. Could you imagine a guy that could get those guys the ball? Imagine Turner getting the ball downfield in a one on one situation instead of getting a screen behind the line of scrimmage and fighting through ten defenders to make a yard. But we run that play why? Because it is a throw Martinez can make! That throw to Kyler Reed was a easy touchdown! Yet he had to stop and come back to the ball. We've seen it too many times already this year, and we will many more. Things are about to get tough for us folks! I hope we are all ready for it.

  5. The Big Ten Network is a wonderful thing. The only game I have forked any extra money over for is today's game and it was a seven dollar upgrade on my dish service. I got twenty extra channels including VS. network which sits a whole lot better with me than the 40 dollars for a one time PPV.

  6. I would like to add, that at least Beck is willing to take those shots downfield! Whether the pass is completed or not, it makes the defense reconsider bringing their safeties up. Shawn Watson wouldn't even take a damn shot! Beck is getting this thing going. I got a feeling he has a plan at the QB position too. I don't know how long Martinez will be the man for his offense.
When we get another quarterback with the athleticism of Taylor, passing or running skills, then talk about how long he will be the man for this offense. When you find the new man, please inform me
Agreed. It is baffling how people who believe they are football fans can predict the benching of a guy who's responsible for 70% of our total offense. :laughpound

I don't think Taylor running two out of three downs is exactly what Beck has in mind for this offense. I guess I am the only one currently on the message boards who thinks that way. Yes, he may be seventy percent of the offense, but Taylor is a runner and not a great passer if you haven't noticed?? I just believe Beck will have a better option in the next three years. Who knows though. I don't see this guy as a four year starter, but if he is the best we can get at QB, then as I said before, that is very unfortunate for a University like Nebraska.

  7. Mark my words, just as we found out against Texas, Texas AnM and Oklahoma this team will struggle against the more stout defenses in Conference play. Taylor will have to use his arm at some point this season to win us a ball game. I'm afraid he may not be able to come through with those 10 second ducks he lobs up
Good example. Two teams that didn't have to worry about the QB running.

I'm sure he'll be benched before the Wisconsin game. Beck is a genius and Martinez has obviously been a decoy all along.

No friend, I was thinking more like next year we may see a different QB. Once Brion gets one more year of learning this new system. Unless of course, Martinez is re injured with all the running he does this year. Why would we bench him before the Wiscy game? If he was going to be benched, we should have done it with some of these preseason cupcake games to get some reps for the new guy.

That's funny, from what I hear a guy with running skills like Taylor's doesn't seem to come around too often. I mean, I think every analyst on this planet has said that his speed is even beyond Eric Crouch's, and last I knew, Eric was a pretty rare talent......something about a Heisman Trophy???? Now when we get a guy who has a strong balance of both running and passing skills instead of just being a juggernaut in one or the other, that is when this offense will be at it's best. I believe that is the meaning of dual- threat. Please any more suggestions are welcome. I enjoy teaching.

  11. I agree with a post above. Taylor's throwing motion is the worst I've ever seen at this level of football. His pocket presence and footwork are very bad too. What's disappointing about this is we are talking about the University of Nebraska and the best we can do is stick a running back at the QB position and tell him "run forrest, run!" Imagine the production if we had a true dual threat. I don't want to bash the kid too hard because he does do a lot for this offense. It seems he is far too much of this offense in my opinion.

Whether he makes the correct read and makes the perfect decision, the better corners in this conference will hawk that ball right out of the air.

Gonna be a fun season to watch. I liked what I saw against Washington, but we have got to get Taylor to calm down in the pocket and throw some accurate quick passes. Teams will load the box on us all year long til' we make them stop.

  12. I hope Crick doesn't play against Wyoming personally. From what I can see, I think Bo may be taking the injury excuse as a way to give our biggest force on the defensive line an extra week off. He's gonna need to be a hundred percent for the Wisconsin game. Crick made some offseason comments about not being worried about opponent's run games, he will be facing the team that writes the book on the run game. Wisconsin has the biggest offensive line out there, and they will be double teaming Crick all game long. I think the guy is gonna need the extra rest.

  13. The young man has a nose for the ball for sure. He seemed to be in the right place at the right time often, and made some of the best TFL's on the team last year. He does have a tendancy to go for the big hit instead of wrapping up a solid form tackle. Usually the big hits work out, but there were guys that did bounce off those hits. That kind of thing has to be fixed. I still think the guy belongs on the field regularly.
