  1. Kenny Bell and Jamal Turner should both be on the field consistently. Right along with Brandon Kinnie and Enunwa. This is the first year I can say that I really feel good about our WR group. They are all really talented. Kinnie is struggling right now, but he has shown what he can do and I don't doubt for a second that he will get his mind right and be right back on top again.

  2. Let's hope things open up a bit more when the level of competition makes us feel like we need to do so. I certainly would hope this team has more to go to than what we've seen. This Washington game could be the first time this team is forced into doing a bit more. Of course, you could say Fresno nearly pushed us to the brink and we didn't really open a new chapter in the playbook with them. I think like you said, there is just a lot we don't know yet. I sure do love watching and learning though.

  3. While those losses on their defense are true, you have consider our Oline as well. Not sure if I'm in the minority here or what, but I'd say our lines has regressed from last year if anything. We haven't shown the ability to pound up the middle on Chattanooga or FSU. Of course that's not to say UW can stop the run just like Texas did (last year) just because they want to. I certainly hope we see more 4-3 looks and work to shut down the run, it would be a good primer for B1G play. Plus I get sad every time Blatchford takes the field chuckleshuffle

It's too early to tell if our line has truly regressed. We've faced two teams that stacked eight and nine men in the box. Some of our best teams of all time had trouble against non-conference opponents who stacked the box. We aren't blowing anyone off the line, that's for sure. But we can't draw conclusions about the line yet.

We have faced two teams that completely stacked the box on us. And from what I have seen thus far, I see no reason any of the remaining teams on our schedule will do any different. I guess we may never know the talent of the offensive line huh? What ever happened to the HB Screen and WR screen?

  4. These guys will come to play for sure. They know our weakness is stopping the run. A lot of teams have exposed us over the last few years against the run. Polk is a great back. This game is going to be close. Especially if we don't have a game breaker like Abdullah gave us last week on the kick return for six. Without that play, I don't know how that Fresno game would have went. Husker fans brace yourself for a nail biter here. We win it, but I think they control the clock and the line of scrimmage all game long.

  5. I figure Polk will have a big day. I think Martinez will be right there with him as far as yards go. I just really hope Burkhead breaks this game open for us. It's time for this offensive line to give the guy a few nice big gaps to run through. I'll always root the loudest for this kid, and he is a lot better than we have made him look thus far. It's Burkhead time.

  6. I was actually going to start a thread about this same theme myself. I spend a lot of time watching some of the old days games on my vhs tapes and you sure do notice the team chemistry we used to have. You look at these games now and the guys just don't seem to be up. I think the pressure on these kids is a bit much. I think the pressure and criticism from the fan base probably get to these kids ears a lot more with all the blogs and social media outlets there are these days versus in the past.

I wish these kids would put their hand down and help their damn running back up more often. These offensive lineman miss their damn blocks then walk right past the running back as he's on the ground paying for it. I've watched it repreatedly. Nobody helps T Mart up off the turf. Burkhead gets walked over by the big men around him. These kids talked all summer long about the brotherhood they've built. I call BS, I got a family of seven, five of us boys, and if my brother just took a shot and was on the turf, I guarantee you he's gonna get my helping hand everytime. I know there will be plenty of people who would say I'm looking too much into it, or building a mountain out of an ant hill, but I think this stuff means something. We need more helmets slapping, high fiving, and helping hands on this squad. Where is the leadership?

  7. I guess I never realized how good Zac Taylor looked back there til' I've been stuck watching some of the recent guys we've had taking snaps at Nebraska. I always respected Zac Taylor.....one tough ass dude. Took a lot of hits, but made a lot of big plays. Heart of a champion on that kid. Hopefully Taylor Martinez starts to show some improvement and a bit more heart. He looks like he doesn't care out there and that throwing motion is just .....wow.....don't thing I've seen worse in my life honestly.

  8. I find myself laughing hysterically at the mess that the Big 12 is. I also think Dan Beebe is a joke, and is directly to blame for the state of that conference. All I can do is be thankful that Tom and Harvey had the foresight to get us the hell out of there before they all started suing each other. Missouri lost last night which is just a cherry on the sundae. Aside from Texas and Oklahoma, the rest of the conference is absolutely begging for a home right now. Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Baylor are surely nobodies. Then they only make themselves look less desirable by suing their own conference member? Who the hell would want these clowns in their conference?

  9. I certainly don't mean to label the entire fan base. If I came across that way, I was mistaken. I frequent many different sports talk radio shows, and websites, and thought there was an overwhelmingly negative vibe coming from many people. I always know that there are a great number of sane fans out there who will objectively look at some of the struggles we showed Saturday, but also give justice to the positive things we displayed. These negatives can be fixed. I have simply said that many of these negatives should have been foreseen. We are so young on this football team. It may sound like an excuse, but by God it's the truth. These are people's kids out there. True freshman and sophomores, playing on a huge stage like this. I don't know if I remember a Husker team being so young. I just want people to slow down and give these guys a chance. It may not be this year. I think we may lose some games this year. I just think we have a great thing going now. We finally have some youngsters gelling together on the field at the same time. These guys will grow together and will become spectacular. We just can't freak out every time we don't quite look as polished, pretty, and shiny as everyone thinks we should look. Some are panicking, some aren't. For those who aren't, don't take it personal.

  10. I've grown so used to this fan base hitting the panic button after 1 game that it's scary how familiar it all feels. I've been preaching about all the offseason expectations guys. Some should listen. Let the kids play the games. Cheer them on. Root for them. Don't quit on them. They are working to get better. They want to win games more than any of you do, right along with their head coach. We aren't always going to be the best team on the field. As long as we play as hard as we can, I am happy though.

  11. I want to go on record that I never said we won't be bowl eligible. I think nine wins is absolutely a reasonable expectation this year. But if I'm not mistaken we play more than nine games this year? So as I said, we may trip over an opponent or two. We quickly forgot the most hyped Red Out Around the World game where there was no way Texas was gonna come into our house! and beat our ass! Texas came to our house! and beat our Ass! We then watched Texas AnM make our offensive line look like they were wearing pink skirts. They shoved us around like little girls. Then we go to Oklahoma and blow a 17 point lead in a game we knew was the last chance we had at a parting shot in the face of the biggest douche on the planet named Dan Beebe. We all know the entire team knew that there was a lot more than a football game in that Big 12 Championship. Between that Oklahoma game and the Texas game, Nebraska hasn't had bigger games than that in the last ten years! We lost them. So forgive me if I say nine wins is going to be fine by me.

If we only get 9 wins then the season is a failure since we will have regressed from our last two years.

We can still be a better team with a lesser record. Are we going to debate that this year's schedule is tougher than our Big 12 schedule. Of course it is. We don't have KSU, Kansas, Missouri, or Iowa State anymore. 10 wins in the Big 12 is good, but I think it's a lot tougher to get ten wins in the Big Ten. We may regress a bit as far as number of wins, but quality of this team will go up in my opinion. Our first major improvement is saying Bye Bye to the Watson sham of an offense. This offense will blow that out of the water. But it is only the first year trying to execute this offense.
