  1. If Texas goes to the PAC 10, their fans are going to hate it. I think this is the funniest thing of all. They will not like the distances to games, and they won't like not getting their way, because the existing schools will have none of it and will stand up to them. These schools can be very liberal, and that isn't going to be well liked in Texas either. I hope they enjoy what they have brought down on themselves with their arrogance and being so power hungry, because now they will have no more power than anyone else.

    :laughpound

California is too liberal for a school in Austin...REALLY? You're really going to stick with that? Have you even been to Austin? I sincerely hope that the answer to that is "no".

Second, travel is not even an issue. As a school, we can certainly afford it. As fans, we will definately hold our end of the bargain. Hell, you should have seen our following at Wyoming last year, which required flying into Denver and renting a car, if you don't think that we can step off a plane in L.A. Outside of Texas, where are the largest concentrations of UT alums? California, Arizona and New York. Yeah...I think we'll be ok.

From a fan aspect, you couldn't be more wrong. I would love to go to L.A., San Francisco, Seattle, etc. every few years instead of Manhattan, KS, Ames, IA or Lincoln, NE. I could stomach Detroit and Chicago, but the West Coast is much sexier. If you polled 100 Texas fans, 90 would say the same thing.

Other than that, your post was spot on.

  2. This thread is hilariously entertaining. How about y'all start winning again on a consistent basis? If you do, I guarantee that more channels will want to broadcast your games and your University will reap the monetary benefits for it. Texas and ou are the lifeblood of the conference. You are the darling of the north...but in a prom-queen-10-years-after kind of way. No one forced you to fire Solich. No one forced you to hire Callahan. The reason for your demise is your own doing. Texas demanded that Prop 48 be done away with because they wanted to be associated with a conference that stressed academics rather than letting functional retards carry a football. We're all on a level playing field, and come to find out, NU was running on smoke and mirrors. Osborne knew this and decided to hang up the whistle as a result.

Mizzou- Few decent years as of late but no one takes them seriously

KU- One good year. Basketball school

    ISU- Always Suck

CU- Average team that throws in an upset now and then

KSU- Few good years in the 90's and perennial spoiler role

a&m only had 4 games broadcast this year and every one of them was because of the opponent they were playing. Baylor rarely ever has their moment on TV. Tech fared just a little bit better. 3 schools in Texas...yet NONE of them cashed in the golden paychecks. Why? Because they aren't the top dogs in the state much less the conference. I doubt ou sniffs their usual coverage next year due to this year's record and the amount of star power that they will lose. No one wants to watch a mediocre team perform despite their past success. Did you watch a lot of Michigan games this year? Neither did I.

This isn't arrogance. This isn't a conspiracy. This is concrete. I invite you to prove me wrong. Texas is ranked #2 in the nation in football, baseball, basketball and swimming. Is this because we are paying off the officials in all sports that we participate in? C'mon now, "N" doesn't stand for "Nowledge".

  3. The Texas-Nebraska game was another quick reminder of why I hate reviews. If you did not see the game, the Texas coach lost his mind and decided to run a play with 8 seconds left with the clock still running (shades of LSU) while his team was in easy field goal range for the win. The Texas quarterback ran to the sideline being chased and hurled the ball way out of bounds. The clock read zero. Nebraska celebrated what it thought was a 12-10 victory.

False. Mack Brown was trying to call a timeout before the ball was even snapped. He was ignored or not heard. (It’s his own fault for not jumping around and stamping on the ump’s foot to get his attention) The only person that “lost his mind” was Colt who thought that he had more time than he really did.

The play was reviewed and the ball did hit the ground out of bounds with maybe a second left on the clock (if the clock keeper’s hand can be that accurate watching a ball hit the ground). Texas benefited from a technicality and got one second back on the clock, which is all they needed to get the field-goal team on the field for the game-winning field goal and win 13-12.

Technicality? The ball clearly hit the railing and the ground before time expired. When the pass is incomplete, the time on the clock stops. They were the benefit of the college rules.

I then argued over this call that was reversed by review with friends. They were saying the call was correct. My position was that seconds are lost all the time during the game and nobody cares because the clock guys hands are just a second slow. All of a sudden when it matters for Texas we’re going to get technical to the Longhorns’ advantage. I charged that every play during the game should be reviewed to ensure the exact time is kept. They said that was ludicrous and I countered what just happened was bias under equal protection. I said if that play happened at any other point in the game, is it corrected? And they said probably not. They still maintained the refs got the call right. I then countered one more time. If it were the Hogs and the positions were reversed with Texas on defense and the Hogs on offense and the clock ran out, do you think the Hogs would get the second back on the clock? They fell silent.

McCoy steps up to the line with :08 left in the game. NU is confused as an audible is called. McCoy snaps the ball and throws a strike for a TD. Texas celebrates. The refs blow whistles and send it up to the replay booth. Turns out, McCoy snapped the ball :01 second after the game clock expired. TD is taken off the books and NU wins the game.

Would you be in favor of having the refs review the clock in this situation? Is it possible that this would be impactful on a 4th and 10 with 1:00 left just as much as it would be as time expires? If McCoy screws up, it’s ballgame. All NU has to do at that point is run a few plays to milk the clock for the win.

    Bad example.

Even the Hogs know we got screwed... Thanks for the words! I met a few Arkansas fans at the Vegas Bowl about 8 years ago... really nice folk! Thanks again for sharing your opinion... it reinforces what we already knew, but nice to hear someone from outside say so.

Riiiight. Because we all know that the Hogs LOVE Texas and are more than willing to give them a fair shake. I bet that KU fans are more than willing to defend Mizzou's position on the flea kicker too.

  4. So here's that clip of the 97 rose bowl.

    about the 2:15 mark.

Watch carefully. The ball is spiked with 2 on the clock and they last two seconds tick off.

***And note that before the refs wind the clock while the chains are being moved...another second disappears. Now why is that? Perhaps the button was pressed on accident? Maybe it's that the clock on the TV set IS NOT THE SAME as the clock on the field or timekeepers. Hmmmm. And all we have to go off of is ABC's superimposed clock.

People bringing up this example are reaching. It's apples and oranges. Replay wasn't implemented in 1997 and there was no rule in the handbook giving licence to review the clock for errors. There are MANY cases of refs putting time back on the clock. Have you honestly never heard a ref say "Please rest the game clock to xx. Thank you"? As soon as the NU players rushed the field they were getting brushed back by the officials. Everyone knew that time would be put back on because it was the correct call.

  5. WHEN DID COLLEGE FOOTBALL BECOME ABOUT MONEY????? No one cares about the money. College football is about heart and competition, money is a byproduct of the faithful followers. the fact that money keeps coming up reinforces my belief the game was rigged. If it wasnt, then why did Bo rip the Big 12 comissioner after the game and TO refused to shake his hand?

Scenario #1: Texas won because the refs/replay booth/Dan Beebe had a vested interest in them doing so.

Scenario #2: Texas won fair and square

You've discounted #2. That means that #1 is the winner. How is that NOT about money again?

You are claiming that college football is not about money while claiming that college football is about money. If it was about money, the Big 12 would have been better off having NU win to get that extra BCS game revanue. If it wasn't, then Texas won fair and square. You can't have it both ways. What's the point of rigging a game so that it doesn't work in your best interest?

Why did Pelini not shake the Commish's hand? Honestly, I think that he is a short tempered guy that got caught up in the emotion of the game. He also yelled at Texas players that they should be embarressed to accept that trophy and wanted to pick a fight with Texas fans en route to the tunnel. If Mack Brown ever did that, I would be mortified. But, to y'all, it was a reasonable response from a fiery coach. I can't comment on this because we obviously have different expectations in our programs.

  6. Yeah... tons of flaming going on. And tons of over-reactions. When fans react this way, it confirms that they are not level headed, supportive and "classy"

show us a game that was fairly called and the fans will show class. show us a game that was clearly rigged, and the response is outrage.

Most Huskers I have interacted with say that it was justifiable that :01 was put back on the clock. (Albeit they are certainly not happy about it) It's not like there is absolutely no rational argument for this happening. The rule book says that the refs can review this and they did. The video evidence showed that this was the correct thing to do. I have yet to hear anyone make the argument that the ball did not make contact until after time had expired.

So, with this in mind, would it be fair to Texas to be robbed of the extra second that they had? We can stipulate that McCoy may not have had all the bats swirling above his head on how much time was left but he was clearly throwing the ball out of bounds to stop the clock and avoid Suh.

Let's just say what you really mean: It's only fair if NU gets the benefit of questionable calls that further their cause. Don't mask it as Texas cheats and the refs had another agenda. If anything, the refs cost the Big 12 millions of dollars by denying them to have 2 BCS teams.

  7. So is the Holiday Bowl

Wow. Look at all that Texas class oozing all over the place. How hypocritical are you to defend your compatriot's trollery by calling us out, then spouting crap like this?

    You're ridiculous.

We need a "lighten up" emoticon

Maybe before you call me out on classiness, you should re-read this thread? McCoy has given your team and Suh all the credit in the world...yet y'all bag on him. For what...playing on the winning team? It's a message board. On message boards there is smack. These are the rules of such. I can't help if you take it personally. I sure as hell don't.

  8. Aren't Mizzou fans threatening to leave the Big 12 because they have to play in the "lowly Texas Bowl"?

You weren't getting a BCS Bowl

You weren't getting the Holiday Bowl

You just played in the Cotton Bowl

You just played a Big 12 CCG in the Alamo Bowl

That leaves the Independence, Insight and Sun. When talking about fanbases that travel, which one of these does not belong? ou, Texas a&m, Mizzou? There's 2 more down. That leaves Mizzou and ISU...who hasn't been in a bowl for a while. Which fanbase will be more amped about going to a Tier 2/3 Bowl?

You get to play in the recruiting hotbed of Houston against a decent Navy team. I don't see the issue.

  9. You forgot the conspiracy that Semko was suspended as a WAC official for calling a game over and letting the clock expire when there was clearly time left a few years back. He wasn't going to risk losing pay again.

  10. It is the opinion of myself and hundres of thousands of other Husker fans that Nebraska DID win that game. Weather or not they record it that way or Texas keeps OUR trophy.

Umm...grats on the moral victory I guess? Or if this is condescending...I apologize that you didn't win outright? Sorry, not sure what I'm supposed to say to y'all anymore.

  11. I think that McCoy stands a decent chance. Not because he is a world beater, but I think that a lot of people sent in their ballots before the game on Saturday.

Personally, I think that Gerhart and Suh are more deserving this year. As long as Tebow doesn't win, I'm happy. Although Ingram winning would be pretty criminal too.

  12. WOW. When did Nebraska fans turn into aggys?

I'm almost speechless from what I've seen and heard from NU fans. I just showed this thread to my friend (NU grad) and he is embarrased.

I'm sorry that I enjoyed watching your defense play. Would you rather get blown out and not have our respect? Its nice of your fan base to be so ugly, nice to throw a few things onto the field, nice to flip off and boo Mack and our fans as he gave you congrats (like EVERY coach does after winning any type of championship). I guess losing really does bring out the worst in people. This fanbase has changed drastically in this decade.

    Didn't earn anything??? Child please.

We'll be rooting for you in the bowl game. Sorry you can't do the same.

    Hook'em

Funny thing here...I have seen a lot of Texas fans saying we shouldn't have even been close in that game and things like that. Most of the media is saying how Texas was playing poorly when the fact was our defense made them play poorly. Mack wasn't gracious after that win either (he was saying things that a coach should say, but I saw it in his face he didn't mean it) and I saw a lot of smug attitudes from Texas players.

Fact is I am to the point I hate Texas. And most Nebraskans show respect to other teams that deserve it. You guys don't deserve it and never will in my book. This fanbase hasn't changed much like you think it has...

Oh and the bolded is why I don't think you guys are sincere with your "respect" comments. You don't respect us so don't act like you do. You didn't respect us before the game either. So Texas can kiss my a$$ and I will never root for you guys ever. I don't care how the NCG makes the big XII look...you guys are going to smoked by Bama and I will probably be smiling the whole time. Just wait till next year when we play, cause if we have the chance...I bet we run the score up on you and you deserve it.

So you are basing this on what you thought you saw after suffering a heartbreaking loss? Methinks that this may not be the most objective time to form an opinion.

Listen to yourself man. You sound like the batsh*t crazy girlfriend. "You think I'm fat don't you?!? Don't say that I'm not because I am and I know that you're lying. What do you MEAN I'm fat?!? You obviously don't love me!!!" :dunno

Answer 1. Texas was the better team- "OMG, you Texas queers are SO arrogant. If you didn't pay for the refs you wouldn't have even stood a chance. Bama will crush you and your gay QB!"

Answer 2. NU played a hell of a game- "Don't come here with that sympathetic attitude. You don't REALLY mean it and it is condescending. NU did NOTHING to put themselves in the position to lose the game. We know that we are awesome and don't need some tu fan to tell us that!!!!"

Guess we are sleeping on the couch tonight

  13. I could have sworn that I saw Suh driving in an SUV next to on my way home from the game. I went to sleep and had a dream that Suh was chasing me. I woke up in a cold sweat and took a cold shower, rocking back in forth in the corner. I dried off, looked in the mirror and Suh was right behind me.

The ONLY reason that I am posting right now is because I gave him my right arm to gnaw on. It took me over an hour to post this with my left hand with my 2 good fingers. And I am thankful.

  14. I guess that is where my confusion lies. Personally, I thought that we would absolutely roll Nebraska. I thought that Suh would be quiet for the most part and Colt would be padding his Heisman stats in the 4th quarter. It was anything but that. Someone forgot to tell your team that they didn't belong on that field last night. I left the game impressed as hell of both your fans and the effort that your defense showed. (I'm classy, but I can't say that I was impressed with your offense) As I said last night, if these were 2 SEC teams we would have heard about what a classic defensive chess game we witnessed. Now it's "Texas almost lost to a mediocre team and doesn't belong in the MNC game." It's insulting to both our teams, who bashed the hell out of each other for 60 minutes. (Well, 59:59 at least...or 60:01 depending on which side of the game you were on)

What is it that you want Texas fans to say?

Did the refs screw up crucial calls? Yes. I think that the kickoff ruled down at the 1 yard line was horse crap and the Huskers around me agreed that they got away with one. You think that the PI call was phantom and I agree with you.

Do you want an apology? Would you like me to write my congressman on how Texas got favorable calls down the stretch? Should I feel bad or sorry that the game worked out in our favor? Perhaps we should ignore the kick off out of bounds and the horsecollar that helped put us into FG range. As a Texas fan, should I feel ashamed that Nebraska allowed us good field position by mental errors?

I've been to several NU games over the years and the philosophy has changed dramatically. I remember being in Lincoln and having your fans clap and chant "Heisman" when Ricky trotted off the field. It's easy to be classy when you are the top dog. However, now that the rolls have reversed, Texas fans are smug, arrogant and condescending. I came here because I respect your program and recognize the fact that we live our lives around 18-22 year old kids playing a game.

I know that this is the internet, but I'd tap the breaks on touting the classiest fanbase title. It's a little bit like ND still getting the national respect that they do because of what they used to be...and that's a shame. You don't have my sympathy, you have my respect.

    Good luck in your bowl.
