  1. If you guys can run the table, you'd have a chance. But I don't think your team will run the table.

Martinez looks special, but he's still young and needs to improve his decision making. $.02

  2. The injuries coincided with some freaking hard hits. Watch the slow mo replays and you'll see helmet to helmet and knee to helmet blows. Most of the players who got injured didn't return to the game. I can only think of one instance with Marquis Goodwin where it appeared that he landed hard on the ground and just had the wind knocked out of him.

  3. I had no reason or cause to expect good things from this game, but being a homer fan, I of course had hopes that Texas would prevail. That was by far the best Texas has played all season. The coaches finally let the offense loose and it made a world of difference. Also, Texas finally played a game without shooting themselves in the foot with dumb penalties on every drive.

The game could have been a lot more interesting had Nebraska executed better, but it looked to me like Texas was the better team today.

This still baffles me. Texas always plays their best game against us.

It mostly stems from tendencies of the coaching staff to be too conservative (and hamstring the offense). This season in particular though, the team had (up until this game) been shooting themselves in the foot with stupid penalties at critical moments throughout games. As bad as your receivers were in dropping passes that game, Texas' receivers have been doing same all year. This game seems to have been a turning point for the coaching tendencies and stupid penalties. The jury is still out on the receiving corps.

  4. I felt like the biggest mistake today was the preparation. We went into the game, treating it just like "another game", ...

Pretty sure Pelini was quoted in the media as having said they'd been preparing for this game for 10 months (in response to a question about the 'Horns having a bye week and having 2 weeks to prepare).

  5. I haven't watched both your QBs much other than when they have played Texas, but if you rewatch this game on TV, I think you will see that Martinez was making a lot of wrong decisions with the ball on the zone read plays (ie. when to keep and when to give). Zac did a much better job with his decision making.

  7. ... Man I just checked the box score, but Gilbert had you guys at 24-21 in the 4th?

Yep. We were down by 3 and had the ball with 3 minutes to go in the game at our own 7 yard line. Unfortunately, no one picked up the blitz and GG was blind sided and fumbled. Bama recovered and the game was basically over at that point. Texas D shut down Bama in the second half and gave the O a chance to get back in the game.

@HuskerMoon - circumstances beyond control were responsible for Texas losing? I don't think so. Texas had a chance to win this one, but Bama made a good play at the end.

  8. The end result was disappointing, but I'm really proud of Texas for not quitting. They fought back against some pretty heinous adversity to have a chance to win the game. I give Bama all the credit for making the plays to win the game.

It took a few possessions, but GG played amazingly well for a true freshman. I mentioned in a few other discussions on this board that he likely would not be a weak link for Texas next year and this game did nothing to change that opinion. I think Texas and Nebraska meet next year both undefeated to that point in the season.

  9. Next year's Conference rankings

    ...

    Your thoughts?

Conference rankings? Seriously? I'll hitch my wagon to my alma mater - not some conglomeration of teams that include the black holes of Oklahoma and College Station.

If you want to talk about individual teams, I'd say this:

Florida loses a lot, I don't think they reload. It's rebuilding time.

LSU is stuck with the Les Miles curse. They are guaranteed 1-2 losses every year because of it.

Auburn will be good, but not elite.

USC (Pac-10 version) will be improved and top ten worthy most likely.

Oregon - I don't know who they are losing. I'm not sure about them.

Washington/UCLA will be decent to good - on par with Auburn at best.

Nebraska will be better on O and probably a slight dropoff on D (which will still be elite). Top 10 for sure.

OU loses a lot. Rebuilding year but still 2nd in the South division.

Texas has question marks on O with OL & QB, but the D will be strong enough to win the early part of the schedule. I think they mature fast enough to make the Nebraska game a top 10 showdown of undefeateds.

Tech is going to drop off and A&M might surpass them for 3rd place in the South division. A&M's offense will be elite. Their D is the big question mark.

I don't know enough about the other teams you mentioned to have an opinion.

  10. Also, i am just worried that if UT plays well, then we will be in competition with aTm for preseason no. 1 because they played texas so well without a defense.

    Laughable.

BTW, Kirk Bohls, Austin American Statesman columnist and AP voter mentioned that he thought Nebraska was likely preseason top 10 material.

Texas will be breaking in a new QB next year, I don't think we'll lose to them.

The hype surrounding Garrett Gilbert is as much as more than what I heard when VY came to the 40. If he's a fraction as good as the hype, he won't be the weak link. We do lose a couple of seniors on the OL and that will be a bigger question mark IMO (not that the OL has been a strength this year or anything).

Texas. Until we get past this hex that falls on us everytime we play them, Texas is the hardest game.

We used to have the Stoops-monkey on our back. I know how that feels.

OU loses a *lot* this year.

A&M may improve next year, but it remains to be seen what their new DC will bring to the table. They are horrible on D right now.

  12. Why root for any team that your going to have to recruit against?

Texas generally battles OU for the top recruits in the state of Texas. Texas does very little OOS recruiting. I'm not sure how many recruits Texas has gone after in a head to head battle with Nebraska since Mack Brown has been here, but if there are any, I'm sure they can be counted on one hand.

  13. Aggie claims Leach has gone insane (ie. want's to be their OC):

Coach Leach has been in touch with Coach Sherman about Nolan Cromwell's status for next season. He wants to get back at Gerald, and he has figured out a way to do it.

    This is not a joke.

    ...

Sherman is still upset about the comments made about McGee but has not yet declined interest. Told Leach to wait and see how everything pans out and to not jeopardize his injunction lawsuit in the meantime.

    ...

i'll post updates as i get them. i'd bet if this is going to happen, that news will be reported sooner than later. out of deference to cromwell, a&m will not entertain the media on this until nolan has officially been hired (by the way, three NFL teams are after nolan...one is in-state).

    ...

More as I get it. Nohing more on Leach to tell today. His legal team is posturing to decide how best to handle the situation. One guy in the department claims Sherman is pondering this, but I'm going to wait to see what my other, closer guy says.

I'm not sure Leach knows how to take advantage of a mobile quarterback.
