  1. They took Newby off the kickoff team also, the hell are we doing with him. As for Armstrong, Beck needs to run more option and play action with him. Drop back passing isn't his thing, utilize his strengths not his weaknesses.

Playing away from his strengths isn't helping. Anyone remember that option in the first half where he faked the pitch and made two guys look absolutely ridiculous? He runs the option well and passed well out of option looks as well. Making him pass straight up is where he has problems and for some reason that's what Beck keeps trying to do. If the team could get some consistency out of the play calling, more to TA's strengths, his numbers would not be even close to as bad as 1 TD to 6 INTs.

  2. Michigan got their ass stomped. Cant say I'm dissappointed. Karma's a bitch. And I'm tired of everyone sucking Hoke's dick. He's propped up on a pedestal, and right now, I wouldnt take him over Pelini. Maybe if the the fatass wore a headset he'd know what the hell's going on.

Hoke is the 3rd best HC in our division. The best thing about him is that he seems to want to run a pro-style offense. That bodes well for our future against them.

Seems to not fit their current talent, either.

  4. Jesus, I hope my brothers never go to jail in their life. That would def. mean I am a bad person also...

You think that's why I'm upset? If they weren't public figures, it wouldn't be a big deal to keep it on the low down, but if he knew and let him go to another school without letting the school know, what makes him better than Tressell?

    Not sure if serious.

  5. MSU game is a lost,The other games who knows.

We need to have more practices with full contact.

We had a hard time moving the ball as the O line members kept going down, we are short on good solid backups.

Both teams came to play and both teams have a lot of starters out.

TA will be a good QB in time

The coaches must learn to go with and stick with players that have the hot hand. Rest players when they go cold.

D played the best game of the season in the second half. I have some hope next week if they continue to improve in next weeks game.

When the D was turned lose they looked good so Shu should continue to make the calls next week :sarcasm

How can we say that MSU is a loss?

their defense, it's what we are dreaming of having

But their offense offenses like our defense defenses.

  6. One more quick prop from today as evidence of progress on improved recruiting. We now have two DEs that have a pick 6 on the season......Gregory and Moss. We have better size on the interior line and better athleticism with these ends.

There are few things more beautiful than watching a Husker D lineman return a pick for a TD.

We need to have one of those british nature announcers dubbed over the return. Make it sound more majestic.

  7. The referee, Bill Lemonnier

Found the problem. Major dickbag. I rank him with the likes of Jim Joyce (MLB umpire) and Joey Crawford (NBA ref) as far as the worst officials in sports. I don't blame him for the loss on Saturday, I've simply noticed a pattern of particularly poor officiating in NU games in which he has officiated. It's his crew, not just him, but I see more questionable calls from his crew than any other.

Honestly they're the only crew I notice when we have them, and and it's not for the right reasons.

Exactly. If I know your name as an official, it's not good.

  9. The problem is that our offense can't offense, our defense can't defense, and now our Wullenwaber can't Wullenwaber.

In all seriousness, how is this not locked/merged into the other Taylor threads?

I think its that our defense is trying to offense and our offense is trying to special team. Meanwhile our special team is trying to figure out what the fox says. Pure madness!

As likely a theory as any. I doth lol'd. +1 to you, sir.

  10. Way over. I think he starts this week.

If he starts this week, I'll walk right out of the stadium, as I am not going to watch another clusterfk terribad offensive performance and get embarrased at home.

Is this a joke? Don't let the door hit you on the way out. "f#*k THE FANS."

How did you feel about the fans leaving at halftime in 2007 against OSU? It's the same thing. Buy the ticket, support the team, show up to the game, but you are under no obligation to watch your team take a massive dump on the field. If you'd rather end your Saturday with the same amount of pulled out hair that you started it with, and choose to go antiquing instead, then that's your choice.

Also, prediction on Taylor starting? 1 more game. Don't know if it's this week or further on, but I say he starts one more.

  11. As for the show cause, I think in light of the Miami situation, he could get that reduced. Didn't Miami's old basketball coach get a 5 GAME suspension for lying to the NCAA?

This is a huge head-scratcher. Why do some coaches get years-long show cause penalties while Haith gets a five-game suspension?

At some point Tuesday, former Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl will surely read the section of the 102-page infractions report outlining the violations the NCAA believes Frank Haith committed while at the University of Miami.

It's probably safe to assume Pearl isn't going to like what he reads.

Pearl was fired from his job at Tennessee in 2011 and received a three-year show-cause penalty from the NCAA for lying to investigators about having a recruit attend a barbecue at his Knoxville home. Haith will sit for just the first five games of Missouri's 2013-14 season even though the list of violations the NCAA "factually concluded" he committed include authorizing a payment to a recruit, paying off a booster to stay quiet and attempting to cover up the violation when investigators began asking questions.

    LINK

Probably the most bizarre ruling in recent memory. The Miami scandal was probably the worst thing to happen in the history of collegiate sports...until Penn State. When it first broke, people were thinking they'd get the death penalty since their violations took place over nearly a decade and were repeatedly covered up. Then one of the most disgusting things ever to happen, sports or otherwise, gets uncovered at Penn State, and everyone puts Miami on the back burner. Meanwhile, they get good again, start making money again, and the NCAA lets them off the hook.

Off topic for this thread, I know. Uhh...Mark Richt, Scott Frost, other coaching stuff....we're good now right?

  12. what teams are succeeding that have more challenges than NU? Standford, Baylor, Fresno State, Northern Ill, Louisville, Central Florida.

With the couple of exceptions, these schools are in California, Florida and Texas.

true, but these are low level schools in those states. they aren't taking kids from USC / UCLA, Texas, Florida, FSU etc. those are are kids that NU could and should be able to get

Was just going to say something to that effect. Those schools may possibly face bigger challenges in that they are in the shadows of their larger, in-state recruiting rivals.

We need a coach who has done something with nothing. Would Saban (minus his legend status) do well here? Not a chance. He sucked at Sparty which is more like NU than Alabama is. We don't need a Nebraska guy per se, but we need a guy who knows how to recruit to a college town surrounded by nothing that would be of major interest to an 18 year old recruit. The guy NU goes with needs to know how to get the right guys, because the best guys are probably at Bama, to come to the middle of nowhere (harsh but that's what recruits probably see) and be a complete team.

  13. Except in 08.....

    NU did not play UT

NU beat KU but they were in no way a top 5 team.

    Lost to TT

And got flat out humiliated by Mizzou and OU

    --so not the best argument

Played well enough to beat a solid VT team. Remember that was the game with the inexplicable back to back personal foul calls (ACC refs, go figure)

Went to OT with TTech and were potentially a QB brain fart from winning it, the week after the Mizzou debacle (which Bo admitted was due to his "over-coaching")

Beat an 8 win Kansas team. Sure they weren't the Orange Bowl Kansas from the year before, but they went to a bowl game.

Beat a tough Clemson team in a bowl game. Low(ish) scoring tight game against a major conference opponent

All of these are games that would've been sure losses in Callahan's final year. There wouldn't have even been a bowl game. Sure the OU and Mizzou blowouts don't look good, but NU was one season removed from not going to a bowl. That is to be expected in that year's shootout-oriented Big 12. Also, there was clear player development. Suh was a waste of space through his first two years. After his junior year, Pelini's first year, he was considering going pro.

There were obvious improvements over the previous year, which is what should be expected of a new hire, otherwise there is no purpose to making a change. That's the point being made here. Nitpicking is just annoying. Those teams were listed to say that the Big 12 was good that year and the schedule was challenging.

  14. It's not a shot at Frost it is more a shot at the idea he's qualified at this point in time to be our HC. No discrediting anything he's done, but saying he is in no way qualified to be our HC.

With some of the shots taken at other coaches on here over the years, I think stating facts are very mild compared to that. JMO.

You're right. It's absolutely justified to question his credentials. My complaint was that your response was not related to the argument and therefore unnecessarily negative. Frost has only been OC half a season. That doesn't have anything to do with the fact that he would not move laterally and is considered a hot coaching prospect. Not a major issue, and most of the time I see where you are coming from with your Frost criticisms, but in this instance you are off base.

Maybe I read some people's comments wrong. Could be. I am not saying I didn't. I'm just not stuck on this idea that he's a dream candidate for even an OC job at this point. I'd take him, but at this point we have people here who appear to have knowledge of the situation (I know. Nothing is true unless you have a link) that say Helfrich can override his play calls in situations and Helfrich is heavily involved in the offensive game planning. I agree, I don't think he'd come here to be an OC, but that may mean he never comes here and that may or may not be a bad thing. It is not a requirement to have a Nebraska guy coaching here.

Fair enough. Consider it buried. I think you're pretty much spot on here. Too many question marks. Do I think he could succeed? Absolutely. But I'm in agreement with you that if any change is to be made, it should be made to improve immediately. No point in wasting time getting someone up to speed being a HC and getting 8-9 wins again or worse against what promises to be another fairly easy schedule next year. I know people have given you some stick for it but I completely get what you're saying there. No reason to change if you don't expect improvement.

  16. For what it's worth I said Ameer has turnover issues and thought next year he should see a drastic decrease in his carries. I said it this summer and got roasted.

He's a huge part of the offense, and I have to think that, put in better situations where the defense cant key on him, he wont get as much contact and would likely hold on to the ball a lot more. To some extent he gets Peterson'd. Everyone knows the Vikings are going to give the ball to Peterson because he's their only consistent threat. To a lesser extent, Taylor's struggles have done that to us. If the whole stadium knows that you are either going to run predictably, or pass ineffectively, they can just load up for the run. Now, that being said, Abdullah could take a lesson or two on ball security. I'm certainly not accusing you of being off base there.

  17. Unless Taylor suffered that hip pointer on the last play, WHERE WAS ARMSTRONG?!?!?

    Beyond frustrated by this. WTH?

That's exactly what I was thinking. Not healthy enough to practice the day after the game both this week and after UCLA but healthy enough to play every snap.

agree, Bo has sh#t the bed on trust........

Yeah...unfortunately this pretty much sums everything up.

  18. Based on his body of work so far as an OC, I would say he would be justified in his thinking.

    I agree.

    His whole half season.

Point they're making is that he's a hot prospect right now. He wouldn't make a lateral move to OC for Nebraska given his success thus far as Oregon. They aren't saying that makes him qualified to HC Nebraska. It makes far more sense for him to stay at Oregon and be successful there and get a HC job in the future than making a lateral move to a school in trouble. How long he's been there makes no difference to this particular argument. To him being a HC next season? Sure it matters. But to the perception of him as a coaching candidate, it doesn't matter how long he's been there. People consider his future to be bright. He won't make a lateral move. That's all that's been said in these few posts.

We've been around and around in circles with this point.

Well apparently you missed it. "His whole half season." is not a relevant response given the point they were making. I agree with you frequently in this thread but I do take some issue with you taking unnecessary shots at Frost as if he is at your door begging for the HC job. Nothing personal, I just disagree with that aspect of your posts.
