If the reverse was happening 99% of Husker fans would be freaking the f#*k out.

After we start being some ARSE and all of our coordinators and assistant coaches get poached away we will feel some sting.

Here's my perspective and grades on a crazy season of college football's coaching carousel!  The A class are programs who hired with a focus on "We are here to play for championships!"  B class is "OK, I see you".  C class is "not sure, some mehs, but maybe one can be a program maker".  The D class is like "OK who's available next season?".

Nebraska – Scott Frost – A+  We got our man.  Frost was the ONLY one for the job who fit all the criteria.  The Husker legend could become even more legendary and be the coach here for the next 20+ years.  Brings his entire coaching staff that just went undefeated.  Unites fanbase like no other hire could have.  Let’s get this party started!

UCLA – Chip Kelly – A  The Bruins for years have under-performed and been little brother to USC.  They make a splash hire which gives them instant credibility on the national scene and a bigger name coach than rival USC.  Kelly knows the Pac 12 and has a window right now to make UCLA relevant.

Texas A&M – Jimbo Fisher – A-  The Aggies showed some balls in parting ways with Sumlin which makes me believe they knew they could land Fisher.  Fisher is a big steal from FSU and gives Texas A&M the highest profile coach in the state (yes above Texas and the two NFL teams).  Aggies paid a lot so Fisher must have instant success or it could get ugly.

UCF – Josh Heupel – B  Solid hire to try to keep UCF rolling.  The fact that no other staff was retained because they followed Frost will be a challenge for the new coaching staff.  I thought UCF might go Sumlin but Heupel seems to me like the type of coach who followed after Chris Petersen left Boise State.  They will still have some success but not likely to replicate the success of the original program maker in Frost.

Florida – Dan Mullen – B-  A safe hire when they struck out on their other choices.  Has much work to do putting a formidable offense back on the field at Florida.  If Gator fans are patient, Mullen could have long term success.

Tennessee – Jeremy Pruitt – B-  It could have been a lot worse but I don’t see Tennessee winning the SEC anytime soon.  Pruitt knows his way around the SEC.  Will be interesting to see where their offense goes under a defensive minded coach.

Mississipi St. – Joe Moorhead – C+  Unfamiliar with the SEC but probably the best they could hope for.  Could sneak up on some teams.

FSU – Willie Taggart – C+  Recruiting ties in state seems to be his main positive attribute but Taggart has a losing record in his considerable time as a head coach.  Seems like FSU settled.  I expect Clemson to pummel them for the foreseeable future.

Arkansas - Chad Morris – C  The hogs role the dice to see if Morris can energize their program.  Patience will be key to the success here.

Arizona St. – Herm Edwards – C-  What do the Sun Devils know that the rest of us don’t?  Seems like a figure head hire and unlikely to get ASU to stable success in the Pac 12.

Ole Miss – Matt Luke – D  This guy serves as the stop gap during sanctions at Ole Miss.  Realistically because of the sanctions no one was coming so Luke gets the chance to see what he can do.  My guess is not much.

Oregon – Mario Cristobal – D  The Ducks have been fun to watch over the last years but lost out in the game of musical chairs with no one left to dance with.  At least their uniforms will keep them interesting but Frost and Kelly have taken the show to other programs.  Too many other good Pac 12 teams on the rise for Oregon to get where they once were.

Oregon St. – Johnathan Smith – D-  Here’s one team Oregon will continue to pound.  The Beavers continue in irrelevancy.  They may as well have hired Mike!

hhhmmmm  I would rank the Jimbo fisher lower, probably B- but I'm riding along in the train.

This can't be good for Frost's legacy there, not that it matters (to me).

He's taking long time coaches, and going after UCF's offered and committed recruits... From Nebraska's perspective we have to take everything we possibly can to hit the ground running and I don't fault him one bit. It is a big upgrade for players and coaches across the board as far as potential at Nebraska, but man UCF is going to be starting from scratch in a lot of ways.

Good thing their football excellence fund was topped off.

Image result for if he dies he dies

Kidding aside, I'm sure they mostly expect SF to take his staff with him. But, this one might sting a little.  Either way an undefeated season is an undefeated season and UCF will still have a team of winners for the next coach to direct.  They still won.

Yes, and no.  I think a lot depends on the overhaul that would need to be done, the progress that the team is making under Frost, and if Moos is still around as AD.  I honestly think Frost would have the team winning the division by year 3.

I think he has the talent and style that would work in the big ten however whoever is hired needs to  win and win big to appease our rabid fan base.  I just think that SF would need a little more time to adjust.

  5. The more I think about this hire the more I like it.  Someone with a nice temperament, proven track record of success, and he appears to be a cultural fit.  If this mentality goes forward with the hiring of the next coaching staff we have sunny days ahead.  I'm not sold on Frost and truly hope that the search is much, much broader than must have played for us.

  6. My vote is leave MR in for the fourth season. Let's give Chancellor Ronnie Green an opportunity to pick his guy and let our new AD pick his staff.  I have 0 faith in SE to pick a coach objectively. He'll end up picking his old room mate because he was a swell fella and always picked up his socks. One more losing season in an attempt to right the ship is worth it.

  7. The one Thing I don't want is to jump straight into another Callahan. I have always knew Riley was a mediocre hire. In what 12 years his best season was our average. At this point give him 1-2 more years............while we find the right guy (by that I mean the right Chancellor who can pick a better AD who can pick a better coach) . I never wanted Pelini fired. Stiff fines/discipline yes but fire no. It is becoming obvious to me that when Bo was Crying about not getting any support after Dr. Tom left he was telling the truth. Shawn E. had his plan regardless of the sense it made.

  8. (sigh), Sorry folks, but this is going to be lengthy. Feel free to pass over. It's my opinions and genuine feelings about this whole deal. I was seriously thinking about starting a new thread with this but this current topic deserves it more.

To the OP. Your discontent and disappointment and voicing those concerns perfectly within the boundaries of being a true/loyal fan. I'm sure you did catch some hell. Heck, I was probably one to dish some out, but honestly it does not make you less of a fan. Youre decision to find another team is what takes away the fan label, especially after having so much time invested into this one. It's very dissappointing. With that out of the way, here is a rather in-depth explanation for my wanting to and thinking EVERYONE else on board should stick it out.

In 1997, thins were rolling along. We were doing things the right way. We had the best coach in football, he was from our state all his life. He was taking underskilled (yes they were) Nebraska kids and turning them into beasts. We had the best of everything. Our players were graduating. Bla Bla Bla. It was a very special place. Kids wanted to come here no matter what. Osborne built it by keeping coaches around for a very long time and developing a family atmosphere using continuity and things like the unity council. Nebraska had no business being one of if not the most dominant program in the nation, but it was. It was a special thing. Nebraska was different in some many ways. It was a blue collar type of program and there was an attitude and swagger. It was pretty much inexplainable at times. Those things more than made up for all the shortcomings that this program has to deal with such as location/climate, and lack of homegrown talent. Nebraska football was the anomoly of an ever-changing college football world, dating way back to Devaney. Then in 2003, we lost it. We lost it all. Everything that was special about us and gave us the edge we needed to stay on top was gone. We can go around and around about who's fault it is and all the what if's, but that's not what this is about. And I know it cant be used as an excuse or reason, but it really is. Many say we struggle recruiting because none of todays players remember Nebraska being what it once was and that is so true. That Nebraska is dead. It's gone and in the past. In 2003 however, we hired a defensive coordinator that for just 1 year, who had no previous ties with the state or program, got one hell of a taste of something special and unlike anything else in sports, from fan loyalty to dedication to just flat out being a great place to live. When Bo was hired in 2008, he said it was his dream job, it anyone could tell that comment from him was genuine. With Osborne above him, and as he said in his hiring, he is trying to bring everything back into the fold that once made this place special and to make it a family atmosphere again. The problem is it took Osborne 20 years for this program to develop the special intangibles that made it the freight train it was and when Bo was hired our win now and spoiled fan base was expecting it to happen overnight and it's simply not going to. The Nebraska program has to re-invent itself in a new more competitive world of college football, but we also have to make sure that every aspect that was once a special piece comes along in order for us to have that mystique that gives us the advantage we just cannot do without. I know Bo's demeanor and anger upset many, but if one cannot see that his drastic improvements over 4 years in that area dont mean for a good future, then I dont know what to tell you. I would love for everyone to stand behind the coaches and players all the time but I know it doesnt work that way. We have to have patience with this man. I see him making coaching hires of young guys that he knows and has worked with in an effort to develop this family atmosphere. I believe Bo is building for the long term, and as difficult as these 9 win seasons with facepalming losses are to swallow now, we have to remember everything will be fine. Now if the OP wants to go be a fan of another team, that's your perogative, but I'm afraid youre gonna miss out something special when we climb back to the top, because it's going to happen, and when it does, it's gonna make having to go through the lost decade of the 2000's that much more riteous. I also have the feeling that you'll come calling back to us becasue you'll realize there is just no place like Nebraska.

This couldve been longer, but so many things that came to mind have been discussed so many times over and over.

Amen +1 Growing pains suck but you can't become elite without building a good base first. As many fans that complain about Bo's action on field there are just as many great stories I've heard about his actions with players and fans, and the players actions since he took over. I believe that his priorities are correct 1st thing help players become the best people they can be, 2nd help them do the best they can to win games. I believe that the hires he has made are not only to help players become better but also to help the next generation of coaches to get better. I realize Bo is no Dr. Tom that wouldn't work right now. Remember Tom took over a program that was successful and continued the attitude. Bo has to make a new attitude.

  9. I've heard through players that as hard and screaming he is on game day, he is that kind and understanding other times. They have said he is much like a dad that when he yells at you you deserve it. I'm sure that's or or less what comes out during recruiting.

Dads are allowed to yell at their children?!

I thought we were supposed to give them timeouts and discuss our feelings and finger paint or whatevs

Much nicer than dads did in my generation. We got our @ss whopped

  10. We already made major changes within the year! The question should be, when are we going to let the changes we made settle before we ask for more changes?

Nope we should fire Cotton,Bo,Beck, JP,every other coach,T-mart,T-marts mom and dad, God for making Bo.....then we can make a big splash hire..................Oh yeah that's how we got the BC era.

  11. I personally have had times where no matter how hard you try you just keep screwing up. If you keep saying don't trip, don't trip, don't trip, you are goin to trip. I think confidence is the key to breaking most of our penalty and dropsie issues. (aka. trying too hard) I understand we are not there as coaches or players but I don't feel that we are too far off. I think next year will be much off the same some improvement is some areas and some drop off in others. Even took Dr. Tom 20+ years to have everything line up right. In fact I just read an interview were he said that stars have to align right (recruits working out, schedule, team chemistry, ect.) to win the big game. Bo has it right with staying the course. We need to remember that most teams would be very happy with 9 wins. I look for people to push Bo out like solich then we will be right back in the Calla days.

  12. I love how he says it couldn't be the Husker faithful that booed you guys. Well, believe it....some our fans are not Die hards. Eventually the same fans will be throwing p*ss filled balloons. That was just an embarrassing moment for our team we got busted on national TV.

Edit: I understand dedhoarse but just it sucks to be put in the same boat as idiots. Cripes isn't not like we have went 0-10 the pass 4 years. Get over the past and cheer your team.

  13. 1)I saw some missed ,Assignments, blocks, tosses, catches. But, overall I was pleased.

2)Some of the misques we saw will be cleared up with a little time and less nerves.

3)Rex wasn't himself,T-mart settled in and made some good things happen(still needs work on stare down) D-line and linebackers are gonna be beasts baring injury. Secondary was shakey but settled in.

The one thing that did make me nervous was that BK once again had hands of stone.

  14. Am I the only one who liked it? I'm not going to put this on my iPod or anything, but it was fine. Fail? Nah! They did a great job.

Not at all. I really think the people cracking on this movement are the reason why there needs to be a movement in the first place. People need to realize they are getting old and just because it isn't the same thing that has been done before doesn't mean it's bad. BTW I hate rap but think this is a cool thing. It even pumped me up a bit.

P.S. Heavy Z be proud of your Corn fed self.
