  1.

How did you come to the conclusions the big 12 is quite a bit better?

Because of Baylor being speculated to jump Ohio State if both win out regardless if OSU beats MSU. Thats how.

That is your indicator of conference strength? ESPN speculates something so it must be true.

The Big 10 is not very strong due to the lack of marquee victories. Until Northwestern beat California it was the fisrt time they beat a pac 12 team on the west coast in years. To put it like this the big 10 could have a 22 game winning streak in Ohio State and watch other teams play for the national title and end being ranked 4th. The Big 10 hasnt won a national title without an asterisk since the 60s...omitting Penn State in the 80s. We bitch about 01 on the clock ask Washington State about their rose bowl or Miami in the fiesta bowl.Penn Stateyou can include them and I'll accept it. Most have the image of the big 10 getting smashed in bcs national title games. Its a perception that takes awhile to wash away

  2. I wrote something about this a couple of months ago about the Big 10 being irrelevant in football consistently since 1970, outside of the 2 Penn State years and 1 by each of Ohio State and Michigan. And though Nebraska Fans have beef about the 09 Big 12 Title Game, but Washington State in the 1998 Rose Bowl and Miami in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl have more. I count Penn State in there if I can count Texas in the Big 12. Whereas in that time frame Nebraska won 5, OU Several, Colorado, and Texas each have won. The Big 12 last couple of years was considered the second best conference behind the SEC (BCS said toughest).

The Big Ten does cater to Michigan and Ohio State an example was a couple of months ago their game of the week was the Nebraska-Ohio State game in Columbus where Nebraska was embarrassed.

  3. What bothers me the most that people forget yea the Big 10 has history but for the most part since the 70s what has the Big 10 won in Football? They claim a 1970 national title with Ohio State that Nebraska/Texas share already. The 1980s Penn State teams weren't in the Big 10 yet. After that it was 1997 and 2002 flip that around Colorado in that time span won 1 Nebraska won 5 OU won 4 Texas has 2. Hell even since 1997 the Big 12 won 3 compared to in the same time period of 2. So to include the period with Penn State 2 Ohio State 2 (70 since they claim it) Michigan 1 overall (5) vs Big12/8 teams 12. Basketball is the League that the Big 10 has the advantage since the same time period with 6 national titles vs the 2 (Kansas) the Big 12/8 claims. Baseball belongs to the Big 12 obviously outside of Indiana this year the Big 10 has been a non factor in the CWS. Volleyball is tied 6 apeice with 3 Nebraska 3 Texas and 6 Penn State. The Big 12 overall is loved by the computers of the BCS and was considered the 2nd strongest league or best depending on the week during the seasons. With 9 teams becoming bowl eligible. Had Ohio State been eligible this year for the postseason they most likely would have won the National Title. Yet the Big 12 could honestly say outside of a fluke night down in Waco, Kansas State could very well have won a National Title. Heisman Trophy winners 11 for Big 12 whereas 8 for Big 10. Overall competitively the Big 12 is better. The rules of Texas have sorta been blown away as the Longhorn Network is a failure and Texas A&M left and did amazing in the SEC. Texas hasn't solved the riddle of Kansas State or Oklahoma at all. It's my opinion that we were better athletically in the Big 12. Academics belong to the B1G. So its take your pick of that. Money-wise yea the Big 10 wins in that debate. So it's a take your pick of Money/Academics or Athletics for your bragging rights. I liked what one poster said earlier before Nebraska jumped ship to the BIG we all said and I do mean ALL that the Big 12 was a better conference athletically. Since the inception of the BCS the Big 12 has more appearances as well in the National Title games. I understand I'll come under fire for only including the time since 1970. Before that time hands down the Big 10 was king however they mastered being ahead of the game and marketed everything better. The Big 10 network was groundbreaking. I also understand that Texas was also in the Southwest Conference till 96. But I viewed it as fair to include them as I included Penn State's National Titles of the 80s. So with all that being said I respectfully expect to come under fire for all this! So I look forward to reading to the comments!

  4. If the Fiesta bowl does have the Big 12 Champion and Nebraska ranked high enough we will be there no if ands or buts. It would be the biggest storyline of the bowl season outside of the National Title game. Nebraska vs Big 12 Former Conference rivals now meet again in the BCS. We'd hear that all through the bowl season

  5. No they burned those bridges. Does anyone remember the away games? How the Huskers and their fans were treated like crap. How all of our old "buddies" sat there and watch how we were getting screwed and said we just cant compete against the big boys. How they did their best to screw us out the door in everything. No they made their beds now they can lie in it.

  6. I'm a die hard Husker fan from Nebraska that goes to Kansas State. Today my sports economics professor flat out said that Texas is killing the Big 12! Students where like Nebraska left us and left us in limbo. He was like no the Public Relations of Texas has been brilliant they've managed to place all the blame of the conference breaking up on Nebraska, Texas A&M and Oklahoma. Though he said that ESPN is the devil we dont know. They've ran so many pro longhorn and negative everyone else painting Texas as the saviors of the Big 12. Heres one for you all that was pointed out. Texas said they wanted to share 1st and 2nd tier TV rights equally. What isnt mentioned that Oklahoma would lose money in this but Texas wouldnt be affected as the Longhorn Network is a 3rd tier TV rights. From what I see it as several teams with National titles have left (Arkansas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Nebraska) at some point and time its like this the only thing constant in all your previous failed relationships is YOU!!

  7. GOP and the Tea Partiers have lost their freaking minds.....Stephen Colbert said it the best when They are holding the Economy hostage and threatening to shoot it in the face if we dont give in to every demand. I agree that most of the public is incompetent to actually vote a good person in there.

  8. Taylor is a once in a decade type of talent the thing is does he have the cognitive ability to go with it. No doubt the best QB on the roster is Taylor overall despite that strange throwing motion. Anyhow is it football season yet?

I'm afraid the Lemur got into the Pudding Pops.

  9. The clout? Texas still runs the Big 12, right? Nebraska just trades 600-pound gorillas, swapping Texas for political behemoths Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, all of which have $100 million-plus budgets, much more than the Huskers' $75 million.

seemingly true on the surface but one only needs to look at the revenue sharing of the big ten vs the big iix. TEN seems to have a better understanding of the old adage "you're only as strong as your weakest member". Ten is also more of a Union to the Big IIX's confederacy.

I think most people, certainly not just this article or Texas backers, seem to forget the primary motivation of why Nebraska left. As was said at the time, you don't make a decision like this simply because you don't get along with another member school.

We all know this: For Nebraska, it was all too real to envision a scenario in the very near future where CU and Mizzou left, leading to Texas bolting and dragging 4 others along. Nebraska had a legitimate fear of being left without a lifeboat if the ship sank, and backroom whispers were that the USS Big XII was headed straight for an ice field.

I still believe, that if Missouri hadn't initially leaked what now appears to have been overzealous speculation and wishful thinking (at least on their part), Nebraska would still be in the Big XII.

I agree with this had Mizzou not been openly flirting with the Big 10 no way would Nebraska be out of the Big 12. Mizzou begged and pleaded and we got the offer and Nebraska was just tired of the crap of the big 12

  10. Scott Frost. We already copy Oregon's offense and nobody has a better knowledge of it. Easy transition, popular among fans, keeps our recruiting ties to the west coast, and would be a good mentor to a young QB.

Home to him is always going to be in the PAC 10/12. Remember the Orange Bowl where he flat out said he wished he could have done this for Stanford.

  11. 20 points.....thats the average margin of defeat in Bo's first year 2008, yes those numbers are inflated cause of what NU experienced at the hands of Mizzou and OU,

6.25 points average margin for 2009

4.3 points average margin for 2010

Yes people will look at this season as a disappointment but our first goal for Bo was to be competitive. He's doing that and with flying colors. Yes he may have lost a chance at a national championship but still I'd rather be close in every game rather than getting blown out. It took Osborne 22 years It wont take Pelini that long hopefully. Either way this season was good for Huskers should they win the bowl game, We are averaging out 10 wins per season....100 schools would take that in a heartbeat and it will only get better.

  12. Arkansas wont join the Big 12 that's a fact of life. They are very very happy in the SEC. What the Big 12 did do that was completely moronic is the second Nebraska and Colorado said adios, it should have gotten TCU and Boise State. Everyone in the league could have honestly have said it would have been better off. Yes, Nebraska will become a power again, but the fact of the matter is Boise State and TCU are powers NOW. Notre Dame wont touch it with a 10 ft pole(Big 12). Texas can do as it pleases and until someone in their conference has the guts to stand up to them they can do that.
