  1. Yeah, just some writer trying to create much ado.

Favre should not even be on the list at all.

Agree that it's just some writer trying to create "much ado" but disagree that Favre doesn't belong on the list. He most certainly does, if for no other reason than the way he's screwing the preparation of the Vikes all through training camp. They're a completely different team if he comes back than without him, and that prep is on hold until he comes back. There are a good half a dozen more reasons I could give, but that one alone which screws a whole franchise and their fans, is enough to land him in the top 50.

Not so fast my friend! (in best Lee Corso voice). Is there *really* any question about whether Brett is coming back this season?

Maybe the Vikes know, but you and I don't. If I had to wager I'd bet that he is coming back. But I have no way of knowing.

Another group of folks this stuff screws with are fantasy football players, especially those who do slow drafts. Most slow drafts would probably have started by now, and with Favre's waffling, you have no idea how to draft AP or Harvin or Favre himself. Values will change dramatically if he doesn't play.

All Favre is doing is avoiding training camp. Do I have inside info? Well no.

But the Vikings can't give - even Favre - an exception - so they do this dance.

Favre takes a few hits in the media but he gets what he wants - to avoid the pre-season.

In fact, everybody is happy Farve, the Vikings, the media, the fans.

EDIT: One more thing - there is difference between jerks and criminals and they shouldn't be in the same list.

  2. wow it's happening already, I figured it would take at least a year before they started turning on each other again.

Texas 'fans' are really ripping on A&M. They are greedy, UT doesn't need them, etc.

A&M should just join the Big 10. They would be the best fit of all the Texas teams.

Bring along Mizzou. Finally get ND and add a New York team ('Cuse?).

  3. I think what he is saying is that it wasn't like when he accepted the job he was like, "YES! now i get to coach the legendary Suh." BC hell Suh wasn't legendary then. He was just a Soph that had some injuries that wasn't playing anywhere near his potential. About understanding who he was, I think he understood the psychology behind the situation, and that he knows how to push the right buttons to get a player to produce.

Oh I see. Yes I agree. That's what I was trying to say - somewhat poorly I admit.

Pelini and staff molded Suh's raw talent. He saw a four-star Soph under performing and challenged him in a way that he would respond to favorably.

Neither knew the outcome in advance. But yeah, nothing legendary at the time.

That's why I expect good things from the defense this year. The guy can coach.

  4. "Unless you really understand who they are, you're never going to understand what buttons to push," Pelini said. "If you don't gain trust, I can promise you, they're not going to do what you ask them to do. I always tell them this: I will have your back no matter what, but I expect you to have mine."

    You stink. [to Suh]

"Honestly, I didn't know who Ndamukong Suh was," Pelini said. "I didn't really care.

The statements in bold are contradictory. The second are umm...exaggerations Pelini both cared and knew about Suh.

Heck, even I joe-average-fan, can look up his recruiting numbers.

So you're saying that a man who spent the last five years being the Defensive Coordinator at two different schools, focusing and committing to his team (and not really recruiting either) should have had the same knowledge of Ndamukong Suh as a fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers who casually follows recruiting?

Hmmm...not sure If we are on the same page or not. Sounds like - not.

IMHO, Bo would have far superior knowledge than any fan. Even as a DC for other teams or especially as DC for other teams.

Even if he didn't have a hand in recruiting (which I would doubt) he would still be aware of four and five-star defensive recruits.

And if not, I'd bet my last dollar that he reviewed the roster, talked to his coaches and watched tape before he accepted the job of HC.

Did he know Suh intimately? No. But he knew of him.

Did he care if he lost a recruit (who didn't quit)? Yes.

Did he know how to read him? You betcha.

  5. As a Nebraska fan, are you serious? Or were you just making a 'funny' ? I'll go with serious.

Agree or disagree with their beliefs - most, if not all, ask for the opportunity to play their best and let the chips fall where they may:

Beyond the Final Score: There's More to Life Than the Game & More Than Winning: The Story of Tom Osborne by Tom Osborne

    Or

"Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory." [Religious or not - similar in formation]

    Or

    The Prayer

Started in 1997 by Grant Wistrom and Jason Peter, it is recited by the players in the locker room before coming on the field.

Fans love it too, especially here.

    Dear Lord,

The battles we go through life,

We ask for a chance that's fair,

A chance to equal our stride,

A chance to do or dare,

If we should win, let it be by the code,

    Faith and Honor held high,

If we should lose, we'll stand by the road,

And cheer as the winners go by.

DAY BY DAY, WE GET BETTER AND BETTER

THE TEAM THAT CAN'T BE BEAT, WON'T BE BEAT!

    [Amen]

    As for the "pushing" bit.

But I've never understood why athletes are so adamant on pushing God into sports.

Why not just rephrase the statement/question: But I've never understood why athletes are so adamant on bringing muscles/brains/athleticism, etc. into sports.

Again agree or disagree - they see God as a source of strength. If a person believes in God - why would they leave God out? [Rhetorical question]

And further I suspect they ask God for help in private as well. Which wouldn't be seen as it is um...private.

Or did I just suckered (again) by a little trolling?

Perhaps I am mistaken and Landlord will provide better answers.

And that is why I am optimistic about the defense this season - coaching.

They may not have somebody with the God-given talent of a Suh but they can coach up the talent they have. And even Suh wasn't Suh at one point.

And almost more important - [i bet] the coaches have complete buy-in from the team.

  7. In my experience the book smart/real world smart distinction is generally excuse making by those who didn't/couldn't do well in school.

    Already an elitist.

There are some damn fine and capable people without degrees in many walks of life.

Depending on the year, as many one-third of the members the Fortune 400 list do not have degrees (including Gates, Dell & Ellison, etc.).

Perhaps you should reconsider or get out more?

  8. Wasn't this a Billy c thing back around the time we beat Michigan in the Alamo bowl.

It was a Billy C thing but it came about during the Colorado game in 05 I believe. In fact, it was Cody Glenn who I remember flashing the t-shirt he had on under his jersey after scoring a TD.

Maybe its just me, but it shouldnt take 5 years to restore the order. I think this shouldve went away when Bill C. was let go.

Personally, I think the order was restored when Billy C was fired. Him and Pudknockerson were the worst things to ever happen to Nebraska.

    Agreed.

On 10-16-2007 order was restored. Coach Osborne was named "interim" AD that day.

A 9-win season followed by a 10-win season. Back-to-back North champs and bowl game wins. Played for Big 12 title.

First shut-out in 45 bowl games. A finish in the top 20 and will start in top 10 (or so). Joined Big 10.

Order has been restored and then some.

  9. Soldier Field would be much better than the dome.

But even better is having the record decide where the game is played.

If it is 12-0 vs. 12-0 then use a neutral site.

Either way, the game played in weather would be part of the appeal/marketing.

Best would be having the CCG played every year in Arlington. Aginst Texas.

Actually, no Big 10 team would need to actually show up - Texas would just play with itself. koolaid2.gif

  10. The '95 Huskers aren't even the best team of the 90's.

    FO has two teams left.

    94. 1996 Ohio State

    83. 1992 Alabama

    60. 1997 Michigan

    56. 1993 Florida State

    47. 1995 Nebraska

    XX. ??

    XX. ??

    Who's left?

'96 Florida - gotta be one of 'em since '96 OSU is on the list

    '94 or '97 or NU?

    '94 PSU?

    '98 Tenn?

    '99 FSU?

Below is the breakdown by FO of Top 100 teams from each decade:

    Decade All 40 - 100 Remaining

    1910s: 1 1 0

    1920s: 4 4 0

    1930s: 17 14 3

    1940s: 12 5 7

    1950s: 12 7 5

    1960s: 11 4 7

    1970s: 12 7 5

    1980s: 13 8 5

    1990s: 7 5 2

    2000s: 11 5 6

    100 60 40

  11. Any formula that has the 1995 Huskers outside the top three teams all-time is flawed, plain and simple. Their explanation is ridiculous:

What this list is suggesting is that what constituted near-perfection in the 1990s would have just been really good in other decades. You are a product of your era, and while the 1995 Huskers did all they could to dominate the schedule they faced, the numbers as presented say that a number of teams from different eras would have done as well or better against Nebraska's schedule. You can choose to believe this analysis or not, but it's been interesting to watch the list unfold. The numbers suggest that it was much harder to stand out in the 1930s and 1980s than it was in the 1990s, and it was damn near impossible to stand out in the 1910s and 1920s.

The question becomes, what are you gauging with this formula? Because it certainly isn't a "Top 100 College Football Teams" based on a truly meaningful criteria. I can come up with a formula that quantifies teams based on any number of stats or criteria, but not all of those stats are meaningful in this conversation, nor are every criteria equally valuable.

Bottom line, their methodology is not just flawed but ridiculously flawed when they have a team that most knowledgeable fans will put in the top three, and instead they have this team in the mid-40s.

This list is such an embarrassment for FO.

It isn't controversial - it is irrelevant.

I doubt their reputation recovers from this 'effort'.

    BTW - '02 OSU #43.

  12. O'Hanlon's heart reminds me of a WR from the late '80's

Anyone remember Tom Waddle? An undrafted free agent WR for the Bears. They released and resigned him six times. He played six years.

They'd come out of training camp. Waddle wouldn't make the final roster but next day he was back on the team.

He'd go over the middle - get crushed, get up and do it again.

Even made it on the All-Madden team in '91.

Come to think of it the Bears always need help at safety.

  13. For someone not making a case, this looks a lot like a case to me. smile.gif

No I'm not! OK well maybe a little.

In my view, the post is a political defense of the status quo in the US; still not pro-god and not pro-religion.

The problem is religion xxxxism can take a bad situation and make it worse1by putting out some unsubstantiated drivel about how some god leader wants this chosen group of people to do something to some other group, and if they succeed or die in the struggle they'll be rewarded in the great hereafter. Every day priests, ministers, reverends, mullahs, shamans, and pujari mount the curb politicians get on TV to tell people things that they might as well have made up whole cloth. They couldn't present any data to support themselves even if they thought it was worth the time to look, which most of them don't. They'd rather you just believed it on faith. Well I'm not going to believe it on faith, my friend, and I'm not going to recommend anyone else do it either.

If you want to say religion is necessary for society you have to tell me why and how2it does the things you claim it does, and then explain why nothing else could ever take its place, assuming you can come up with an affirmative example in the first place.

    1. So can 'isms'.

    2. I must say I chafe at the idea of having to present a defense - when you think things should change...

And I'm not absolutist about it. I just don't know what you would like changed and what you would propose - if anything.

Anyway, I have an answer that is rolling around my brain but it poorly formed.

I get my talking points must cogitate.

    More later.

  14. I guess ill see you guys in hell dunno.gif

I went to hell once. It looked a lot like my living room on the even of December 5th, 2009. And there was always a second left even though the clock said zero.

Most on this board would agree with you X.
