  1. Kenny Cheatham (Cheat Em)

    Bobby Newcombe (Nuke Em)

I always thought it was awesome when we had these guys line up in the same formation.

Scott Frost sounds like a super hero name, with powers kinda like Iceman in the x-men or something

    Nate Swift

    Patrick Kabongo

    Irving Fryar

Bo & Barret Rudd (opponents were in for a "Rudd" awakening)

  2. Did anyone see the attempted kick to the groin Brady pulled at the end of the 2nd quarter today? Nothing will get said about it because it's Tom Brady, but if Suh had done something like that, it's all we would hear about the rest of the game. Thoughts?

  3. In regards to the "no 8-man players get scholarship offers" comment, Connealy was a legacy, his father Donnie played in the 50s, and both uncles, Jerry and Jack played in the 70's. Little Shanle, aka Andrew got his offer on the wings of the hard work of his brother, Scott, a walk-on. Had Scott not walked on and performed so well, I don't think Andrew would have gotten his offer, and would have been a preferred walk on. Even all the Mackovicka brothers walked on. In addition to that, different era's of football. In today's world, in Nebraska, the best offer even the most dominant of 8-man players can hope to receive from NU is a preferred walk-on. Unfortunate, but true.

With all the striking out on DT's going on, any chance this 3-star in-state kid gets another look? Plays 8-man football, and I know no 8-man players from Nebraska ever get scholarship offers from good 'ol Nebraska, but if we need bodies at the position, and the potential is there for a hard working in state kid, doesn't make a whole lot of sense to let Iowa have 'em. PS. If you don't know Howells is King of 8-man football in the state, having won 9 state championships in the last 12 years. With 2 runner ups.

Tuesday- review offensive/ defensive game plan/ practice tackling

    Wednesday

    - Run 10 20 yard sprints- followed by a 10 play #1's on #2's scrimmage, for both the offense and the defense--- evaluate who is still going hard, making the correct reads, sustaining blocks on offense/ flying to the ball and tackling correctly on defense (anyone sucking air/ slacking off/ not understanding the scheme,- go work with the JV's/ replace with JV guys excelling)

    - Run 10 more 20 yard sprints - followed by a 10 play #1's on #2's scrimmage, for both the offense and the defense--- evaluate who is still going hard, making the correct reads, sustaining blocks on offense/ flying to the ball and tackling correctly on defense (anyone sucking air/ slacking off/ not understanding the scheme,- go work with the JV's)

    Friday

-Review offensive/ defensive game plan with guys left standing, those who have earned their spot on the depth chart by performing correctly during practice while being gassed. Those are the guys who will come through in a close game in the 4th quarter, the ones dead tired and still giving it their all and doing things right. No spot is safe week to week, ever!

PS. Not impressed with Mike Morrow, he was 3 for 3 against Southern Miss, but seems to run too upright and gets stood up easily, even on those runs and especially at UCLA. Size only does so much if you don't keep your pads low and feet moving... Definitely not the juggernaut he was billed to be.

  7. Bigred, I'm with you. I've tended to steer clear of Huskerboard lately because of those "off the deep end post." I think they have gotten worse since the closing of Huskerpedia, and wonder if that crew is just more negative? Here is the deal though. We know that players read the board, if we don't have a few positive posters to counterbalance the negativity, those few fans can quickly soil the relationship between fans and players.

To me it's obvious this team knows how good it can be. We've seen in the way they've played several games that they can be world beaters. The problem is that sometimes knowing how good you are becomes a detriment. You become complacent, you lose that hunger, and then you get proven that when you aren't playing to your utmost potential you're not even half as good as you think you are. That is why all of our losses have come off of huge wins in the last couple years. We have had good teams that have had the ability to be great. After the huge wins the hype is believed by the team and they feel they can just show up and win. Being a good team at Nebraska with this staff is easy. What the team needs to learn is that that being a great team is earned, one win shows you're a good team, being a good team for 12-13 wins in a row, that's greatness. That's how you earn it.

I am a firm believer that negative energy breeds more things to be negative about. This is why there are things like snowball effect games. Once you get down once you get negative, once you start blaming teammates the wheels fall off and soon you're left in shambles. I've seen it over and over and over again. Stay positive, stay motivated and to quote Monty Python, "Always look on the bright side of life," and good things will happen.

  8. After watching the Penn St. game and seeing the pre-game prayer (which I know was done in response to a terrible situation), I think that a very strong Oklahoma-ish relationship could be forged with Penn State. I also think that it would become a very great tradition if we started each year out with a pre-game prayer like we did for this game, and would only help to solidify the mutual respect of both programs. Thoughts?

  9. My personal opinion is that threads like this are inflammatory and only serve to make the antagonism on this forum worse.

I despise these just as much as I hate the "Bo must go" stuff that inevitably pops up after a loss.

Few things represent arrogance and hubris to me more than telling someone you are a better fan than they are.

    Or better poster kettle ;)

The Huskers as a team deserved better than those conversations I referenced.

  10.

In short be disappointed in the loss, express concerns about the o-line or the defense. But support the damn team win or loss or go cheer for Mizzou, Okie-lite, Auburn, or any of those other teams with no history of greatness, and a bandwagon fan base that vanishes after the first loss of any season.

I did not say you could not be critical. In fact in my post I encouraged it. The defense played porously, the offensive line couldn't get a push. Rex looked tired, probably due in part to the offensive line, Memorial stadium for as rocking as it was last week was completely dead this week. Discussions like those are the ones I come to read. I was incredibly disappointed in the game and the way much of the team played. I came on within minutes of the game to read discussion on that, or maybe even Martinez's excellent play and the fact that he took the team on his shoulders a nearly willed it to a win in the 2nd half. However as disappointed as I was in the game, I was even more disappointed in the the threads started by some "fans" such as "Get Ready for another Decade of Mediocrity," "Bo Needs to Go," and other extreme threads of that nature were the embarrassment.

Criticize, have good discussion, express disappointments, thoughts and concerns. JUST. DON'T. BE. STUPID.

In other words it's ok to criticize the players and fans, but not Bo.

 ... fail... :bang:throw:wtf ... I give up... guess some things can't be fixed.

P.S. edited my last post, frustration came out in the last sentence. Fixed it for hopefully clearer meaning.

  12. You guys are funny. Iowa and Nebraska were fairly equal in 2010. Nebraska was blessed with a cream puff schedule hence the inflated record. The difference being Iowa actually won their bowl game against a much better team.

that nebraska beat 31 to 17

I can say the same thing about Iowa State buddy. Nice try.

The difference being that we weren't bragging about our Iowa State win. You were bragging about barely beating Missouri . . . and we took them to the woodshed. School record rushing yards in fact.

Ron Burgundy:"Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast."

Champ Kind:"It jumped up a notch."

    Ron Burgundy:"It did, didn't it?"

Brick Tamland:"Yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart."

Ron Burgundy:"I saw that! Brick killed a guy! Did you throw a trident?"

Brick Tamland:"Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident."

Ron Burgundy:"Brick, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safe house or a relative close by. Lay low for a while because you're probably wanted for murder. I'm proud of you fellas. You kept your head on a swivel and that's what you gotta do when you find yourself in a vicious cockfight!"

  13. I have to throw in my two cents here. I don't post often, but have been cruising the board for years. The information and collective Husker knowlege on this board astounds me. I am very greatful to all of your informative views and news on the Huskers. It has gotten me through many long days.

That being said, some of you are being completely assinine about the press conference today. The world herald itself stated at some point during the day that the presser would be to discuss the recruits and no other topic. Seems to me that was the biggest pre-emptive "NO COMMENT" that could be issued. The fact that after publishing that themselves the reporters still asked the question does not suprise me. However to harp on it over and over after being told nothing else would be discussed was in my opinion completely disrespectful to Bo's or whoever's decision it was not to comment on anything else. I also get visibly upset when my wishes are willingly and blatantly disrespected. Do you not?

In addition I agree 120% that nothing other than the recruits should have been discussed today. This is national signing day, a day that these kids have worked most of thier lives for, a day when all of thier hard work and sacrifices have paid off and they get their reward. Today is their day. It would be wrong and disrespectful to them to steal their thunder by announcing coaching changes on their day. What a way to get things started on the right foot with new recruits, show them that they come 2nd to the program to coaching changes.

I crave information on the Huskers like Charlie Sheen craves hookers and coke, but come on guys. You're robbing our newest family members (the recruits) from their day of celebration. Let it go!

  14. There was also a very obvious block in the back on their first punt return, and a late hit on Martinez on our 2nd drive. After handing off to Helu, Martinez stood and watched as Helu was tackled behind the line. After the tackle was clearly made, Martinez was drilled in the back and knocked to the ground.

  15. In their footbal preview they feel the need to take shots at Nebraska?? because they are such a storied program themselves, right? 1 year of national relevance certainly means that you're on par with the Florida's and USC's of the world, doesn't it.. we'll to hawkeye fans anyway...

    http://www.blackheartgoldpants.com/2010/5/24/1483920/better-know-an-iowa-football

ISU seems to ahve put them in their place on this one. Finally, something Husker and cyclone fans can agree on; hawkeye fans are d-bags

    You realize that:

    1. That article is written by an idiot, who is writing half of it for the sole purpose of getting a reaction out of it (much like yours)?

    2. You are over-exaggerating to make a point? Since 2002 they have finished the season ranked in the top 10 four times (50%), and once in the top 20 as well. They aren't Florida, or USC, but then again not a lot of Iowa fans I know are actually claiming that they are one of the top five elite programs in the country?

Ummmmm yeah... after reading your post Landlord, coming from a Husker fan living in Des Moines, it becomes apparant either:

    1. You simply do not know any hawkeye fans; or

    2. You seem to have found a lost colony of humble hawkeyes who still remember the '00 and '01 beatdowns they recieved ( this lost colony would not be accepted by most hawkeyes, as the hawkeye base does truly seem to believe they are; and have always been consistantly and forever a top five storied program, with a legacy that so greatly trumps the Huskers that not only is it not a competition, but to even breath the Hawkeyes and the Huskers in the same sentence is sheer blasphemy and does, in fact, send them into a drooling, foaming at the mouth, rabid rage.)

After my extensive travels in the state of Iowa, and tenure of enduring 7 consecutive football seasons along side them, I believe option number 1 to be the only possible way your statement about "they hawkeye fans you know" can be true.

  16. When the Huskers are trailing at halftime you shall take shots of wild turkey and your girlfriend/wife shall perform oral sex on you to summon the gods of the comeback.

    MAN LAW!

Long time troller, had to create an account just to respond to this haha. My college years just happened to coinside with those miserable years with he who's name should not be spoken at the helm. By the 3rd game of his first year, I didn't sit down to watch a game w/out a handle of Wild Turky, and the college gf at my side haha. Oh and my dog's name is Husker too! Best rules ever!
