  1. Wherever we go, we're still Nebraska. The N will never die.

You guys just became THE TEAM of the entire BigTen Conference. Enjoy it!

The entire country will worship you as BigTen Champions headed to the Rose Bowl to kick the crap out of the Pac-10 team.

    Enjoy the feeling.

Granted, this is if you beat Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Penn State.

  2. If it's East and West, the power is all in the East. Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana, Purdue would be way better than Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Northwestern. I don't want to be stuck in a Big XII North situation again with a Big Ten West. I don't think a North/South is a good idea geographically for the Big Ten. Any possibility they could make the divisions randomly? Is that what the ACC does with the Coastal and Atlantic? This is pending the fact that they split it up into divisions anyways. And obviously assuming more teams aren't added, which I think think it will go to 16.

Based on how the BigTen operates now you will play different teams each year, with only certain teams being a certainty every year. Every team you listed sucks badly except for Ohio State and Michigan. Trust me, you will have a tough go with Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois.

  3.

    * Student section holding up their shoes. This started when Adi Kunalic became our kickoff specialist his freshman year in '07, because he would put nearly every single ball either into or completely past the end zone. Don't know if this is done anywhere else, but I find it pretty humorous.

It actually started before Adi. We were doing it my first semester in '06. I asked somebody why we did it and they told me the kicker was weak and needed some motivation to help him kick a touchback.

Good God! The BigTen Chancellors just voted to let you guys in. You really are members as of July 1, 2011 - academics earlier. It's got to feel weird knowing you are members of the BigTen and playing old Big 12 teams for one more season.

  4. My two cents:

    * The tunnel walk. One of the premiere entrances in college football, although definitely not the best. Started in... '94 (I think?), when we got our first two video boards, and the players come out of the locker room and into the stadium to 'Sirius' by Alan Parsons Project. With new technology, and new video boards (can you believe we have five of them now, with one being one of the biggest in the country, not to mention the ribbon boards) the entrance videos have changed over the years. Under Callahan, they started doing different things. In '06, every week there would be three players saying something inspirational and then at the end they would all say "I play for Nebraska.", then cut to a clip of Keith Jackson saying something to get the crowd pumped up. In '07, we used a remix of the Saw movie theme, made by Nebraska's very own Mikey Bo, and it had a god-awful entrance that involved a plane and some panzy pinkshirts or something like that, and everyone hated it. Now, however, we've gone back to basics, just showing important stats and highlights in the program's history and getting everybody ready for the game.

    * Sellout streak. Every single game since 1962 has been sold out (304?). Not much else to say here, except that statistic is insane.

    * Husker power. One side of the stadium yells "HUS-KER", other side yells "POW-ER!". Gives me goosebumps every time, it sounds amazing when the incompetent cheerleaders actually get people doing it.

    * Student section holding up their shoes. This started when Adi Kunalic became our kickoff specialist his freshman year in '07, because he would put nearly every single ball either into or completely past the end zone. Don't know if this is done anywhere else, but I find it pretty humorous.

    * Blackshirts. Started back in the 60's, our D Coordinator needed different color jerseys for the defensive players, and the local sporting goods store only had black ones. Turned into a tradition to hand out "Blackshirts" to the starting 11 defensive players, which was a big deal because we always had good or great defenses. Under Callahan, the tradition was tarnished big-time since our defense sucked, and when Bo took over he changed the tradition. Now the players have to earn the Blackshirts through the season, instead of just getting them by default. In '08 it took all the way until the Kansas game (in which we actually gave up 35 points, but the defense still played their tails off) for him to give them out. Last year, he gave them out after an unbelievably inspired Missouri game in the rain. Also, Alex Henery (field goal kicker, essentially the best in the country) was awarded a Blackshirt last year.

    * I don't think the students/players sing with the band after games anymore. Believe that died with Callahan.

    * We are awesome?

Well guys, it's official. Welcome to the BigTen.

  5. The chant Gooooo Biiiiiiig Reeeeed (someone far off): GO BIG RED

And we respect other teams (the vast majority anyway) so if you pull crap like that michigan song on us you'll quickly replace colorado fans.

You guys need to develop a sense of humor. Once you join the BigTen you will have all our respect and fans, especially at bowl time. Some of those songs are just good fun you sing in bars. Michigan receives a lot of "hatred", but OSU gets the respect, that's all. There's a lot of history in the BigTen.

  6. I think that has to more with them being the SEC's bitch for so long now....

Hey beefalo fan (ahahahaaha) the BigTen is SEC's bitch?

Iowa has beat Florida, South Carolina, LSU in bowl games.

Of all schools in the entire country I have to say I really really hate all Florida schools, and LSU.

With Nebraska joining the BigTen the SEC is going to hate going to bowl games from now on.

You'll enjoy being creamed by Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC(oh wait), Arizona State and I guess Texas.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but now that NE is in the B10 - Go Big Red!

  7. Well we have the tunnel walk, the husker power chant, and the students are usually pretty creative from year to year. Oh and the team and the students sing "there is no place like nebraska at the end of the games". anymore i'm not thinking of?

Don't you start your fight song like it's a polka song when you are thrashing an opponent? Everybody in the stadium starts swaying back and forth?

  8. Soooo, now that Nebraska is going to be part of the Big Ten. Would you guys assist us Big Ten types in learning about your songs/lore/traditions/how you celebrate your school?

For example, we Iowa fans sing a rather naugthy version of the Michigan fight song: "Hail all you mother-f00ckers, hail all you big co--su--rs, hail hail to Michigan a cesspool of a school".

We don't really have anything for Ohio State as they are the overlords of the Big Ten and we are just happy to beat them once in awhile. When we do we get drunk and play polka music.

We have trophy contests, etc. Lots of jokes. Marching bands that kick ass.

So inform us all about Nebraska. So that when you go to your bowl game we can help celebrate.

  9. Chip Brown just tweeted the following:

    4 minutes ago:

    quote:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech appear to be in lock step to the Pac-10 but will wait til next week to announce anything.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    5 minutes ago:

    quote:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is no truth to reports that Texas and Texas A&M are considering the Big Ten. But A&M is still considering the SEC.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Chip Brown guy is a douche

Gee, you'll have to nominate him to the Woodshed like you did me. Apparently you Big 12 types are a little sensitive. :) All good fun. Welcome to the Big Ten.

  10. I am anxious to see if all these niceties are flying around in say 5 years...lol Right now I am impressed... I for one will manage to have some sort of disdain for all opponents on any given Saturday.

Thanks for the doubts in our niceties you freaking cornlover.

In all honesty, most of the animosities in the Big Ten tend to be school based (Ohio State vs. Michigan) and often are more of a joke than anything-- it depends. Except we all tend to hate Notre Dame. And you may be surprised to know many Ohio State people get angered by Penn State fans the most, there is a certain respect for Michigan-- plus they've been so cute and docile lately.

Totally agree. I will root for my beloved Big Ten (now including Nebraska) anytime over any conference. Imagine the fan base Nebraska just gained? God I just hope Texas doesn't join. I hate Texas. They can replace USC in the Pac-10. I'll have to get used to rooting for Nebraska when they aren't playing Iowa.

  11. First of all...as an Ohio State fan, it's great to welcome some competition into the conference!! Just kidding to my B10 brethren. There are some things you should know about each team...I saw a list previously, but wanted to start a new topic. Feel free to comment or add on it as you see fit.

Penn State: Joined in 1990, Football in 92 I believe. For those husker fans who think that they can come in an dominate the Big Ten, you need only look to the lions. They have won only 3 big ten titles (only one outright) in football since joining (94, 05, 08). They have a rabid fan base and a great stadium and awesome blue band. Just be sure Memorial stadium has a bathroom close by for JoPa.

Ohio State: Obviously the blue chip of the league in football as of late. 5 consecutive Big Ten titles and 6 of the 10 the past decade. The shoe is an amazing and loud environment along with The Best Damn Band in the Land and Script Ohio. We have a rabid fan base too that can be a bit overwhelming at time, but take it all in stride and realize not ALL buckeye fans are nuts/idiots, just most :).

Michigan: Where to begin. Arrogant. They think they are above the rest of the conference. The big house is...big...but not very loud and resembles a large hole in the ground. In a bit of peril right now with RichRod, but they wont be down forever. OSU v Michigan is big, even if they CLAIM that MSU is bigger.

MSU: Beautiful campus. Nice place to watch a game on a fall afternoon. Thing about MSU though...no matter how good a season they start...they always screw it up in the end. If NU plays them early...watch out...however if they are on your schedule late in the season...some disasterous even will have already happened and they will be in a free fall. Always happens. But good luck getting a win in the Breslin Center.

Indiana: Football practice. Assembly hall is rich with history, even if IU bball hasn't been the greatest of late.

Purdue: SNEAKY. They haven't been truly good in FBall since Drew Brees yet they somehow seem to take an upset each year. Good Basketball.

Northwestern: GREAT school. Really good at the olympic sports. Occasionally have a basketball upset or two. Football is on the way up, but will probably never consistently be in the top 3. Just dont sleep on them, they are capable of beating you.

Illinois: Football is a mess right but, but they have lots of tradition. They will get it back (without Zook I would imagine) and be formidable again. Weber and basketball is good and assembly hall (illini version) is an orange crush of a good time.

Wisconsin: Camp Randall Stadium and the jump around are fun times. Wisky seems to do well in football year in and year out, yet seem to falter in one game they should win. Any trip to Madtown is a tough go...be it Camp Randall or the Kohl Center...getting a win in Madison is like conquering a virgin..it can be done, but man is it hard.

Minneosta: New stadium and good facilites. Their FB program is on the upswing and will be back. The Barn is just a cool place with the elevated floor. Tubby smith is a good coach too.

Iowa: Not impressed with kinnick stadium but their fans are rabid. Always seem to put out of competitive football and basketball product.

Finally, the Big Ten is more than just playing football on Saturdays or cramming in basketball arenas in the winter. We have a mutual respect athletically and academically for all other Big Ten members. We root for them (even Michigan...well sometimes Michigan) against other out of conference foes. I realize the Big 12 had issues with Texas and others controlling things, but the Big Ten is equal from NW to Ohio State and that works best for us. So welcome to the Big Ten (or whatever it is to be called) and this buckeye will be rooting for you to succeed (unless of course you are in Columbus).

Good rundown Buckeye fan. Can you imagine ABC coverage of Nebraska @ Ohio State?! Gonna be amazing.

  12. Excuse me oh great golden gopher retard of the North. Who owns Minnesota every year? That's right, IOWA. WTF is a golden gopher anyway? Instead of talking smack on the Husker board maybe you should be pissing in your boots that you have another team that will use you as a floor mop EVERY SINGLE YEAR. The Huskers will beat the living crap out of you. Every. Single. Year.

Welcome to the Big Ten Nebraska! My wife is from NE so this just ruined our frakkin' marriage. I think you'll enjoy the Big Ten better than the Big 2 little 10. You have to excuse some of the minor schools like Minnesota, Northwestern, Indiana. They think they are the sh#t, but they are not. Don't worry about MeCheatAgain(MU), not the powerhouse they used to be. Ohio State is basically the team to beat. Don't get cocky about it and maybe you will.

Oh, and the last school to come into the Big Ten - Penn St - they thought they were big boys too but we own them as well. Tiny little pussycats in psychotic valley. Didn't you guys get shafted in a game with them awhile back? Something about an L shaped football field?

Anyway, welcome. The Hawkeyes are NOT ISU. Nobody sucks that bad.

Thanks for proving why i cant stand most Iowa fans.. grew up a Gophers fan and now a Husker fan.. GO HOME HAWKEYE!

Pick a team. I'd choose Nebraska over Minnesota any day.
