First points of the Wisconsin/LSU game:

Field Goal by Gaglianone .... wearing #27

Just saw him hit a 48 yarder to put Wisconsin ahead and he is jumping up and down pointing to his number and then up to Foltz!! Class act and I will be rooting for him for the rest of his career

Gaglianone said Sam carried the ball over the upright and also talked about honoring Foltz.

Good win for you guys today.

  2.

The students and student section were the only disappointing part. Before the game, we encountered a good amount who were drunk and belligerent for no reason to random Nebraska fans old and young. Just walking down the street yelling "F^(# YOU!" type harassment. Start of the game, they were no where to be found. Start of the second quarter, half full. They never filled. I guess they validate themselves to some by jumping around for 3 minutes.

I met some really nice older Badger fans and shared a good amount of beers and stories. It was a fun trip and pretty cool city.

This has been the MO for the student section for as long as I can remember. They'll show up on time for the really big ones (OSU in 2010, Nebraska in 2011, not sure why this one didn't qualify) but other than that, it takes until the second quarter to fill up completely. Administration has tried various enticements over the years, to pretty much no avail. I think they've accepted it for what it is. Also doesn't help that UW police herd students into their seats one at a time.

Well, to be somewhat fair to the students, the policy of escorting each student to his or her seat causes bottlenecking and backup, making it take way longer than necessary to fill up the sections. It's also a really really stupid policy.

  3. Regarding the "Wisconsin fans don't care, they just want to drink" -- it's mostly hyperbole. Wisconsin fans care, but generally not to the degree that, say, Ohio State or Nebraska fans care. We don't take the game as seriously as you guys do. There's a party in the street, there's a party in the stands, there's a game on the field. Win or lose we're going to have a good time. I mean, there are grandmas and small children to assault, why should the game outcome deter us from having fun like that?

  4.

Since Tom Osborne is such a horror to this Wisconsin fan he must be sick over the fact that the Badger players who were accused of sexual assault last winter are still on the team.

Um, which Badger players are those?
Whoops, my bad, they just recruit them. Totes better.

Of course the scholarship for the recruit in question was pulled after he was charged, tried and found guilty in a court of law.

  5.

Oh no, Tom Osborne, the guy who turned a blind eye to the behavior of Lawrence Philips and Christian Peter, is calling us out. Well, now I feel properly ashamed.

I'd be fine with you guys if you hadn't thrown beer at me, my wife, and my 14 year old son at the game. I'd only had that happen at Colorado before then.

Lie. We wouldn't waste beer by throwing it at anybody.

Also, we only throw things at 90-year-old grandmas and small children so your family does not qualify. Sorry.

  6. CBSsports.com is the best site for live scoring/streams during the tournament. If you go to the NCAA basketball scoreboard section on CBSsports.com, they have all the live score updates and links to all the livestreams.

For mobile viewing, download the free March Madness on Demand app. I know they have it for the Apple devices and I'm pretty sure they have it for Android devices as well. The app has live score updates and games for live viewing.

  7. I always cheer for all B1G teams in the tournament...well, until we meet you guys in the Elite Eight anyway.

Good luck and Godspeed. It was really fun to see your fans celebrating when your bid was announced.

  8. Like Bucky pointed out, Wisconsin has quite a few "rivalries" in basketball. Minnesota, Marquette (that one is like Nebraska's rivalry with Creighton, I think). We also have interesting rivalries with Michigan State and Ohio State. I will say that right now there's not a B1G team I hate more than Iowa. I can't stand Fran and his roster of punks.

I like your coach a lot and I've actually been cheering for Nebraska to get a tournament bid. But I hope you do it without a win over us, because I badly want a one seed for UW.

I want a one seed too but I'm not sure we can get it. We would have to beat Nebraska, do well in the Big Ten tourney and have some other teams lose. We're just on the outside of that window trying to claw in. Those five mid-season losses are hurting us but we had a terrific start and we're hot right now, beating Florida is a huge credit too so I hope they continue to do well.

I think two more wins should do it. Kansas could give the Badgers a helping hand by losing to West Virginia this weekend. That would also give UW's RPI a bit of a boost.

  10. I don't think Michigan and Wisconsin even remotely compare. Maybe I don't know a whole lot about Wisconsin football but haven't they only really been on the radar the last few years with Enema as their HC? Now Enema is gone so please Vadger fans forgive me, but I see Wisconsin as a team on the downswing. Michigan has always been a power, and I only see them getting better. So how exactly does OSU/Mich/MSU/PSU even remotely compare to NU/Wis/NW? I don't see it?

Well before Bielema there was this guy named Alvarez...maybe you've heard of him?

Honestly there's a lot of uncertainty around the Badger program right now because of the coaching staff turnover (actually, Wisconsin has had major coaching upheavals for three straight years now), but I don't see us falling off much. Gary Andersen seems like the real deal and my expectations right now are that we'll compete for the West division title on a regular basis.

  11. Why is Wisconsin's first string still in there? They are running it up.. Not to sound like a sore loser, but Pelini shouldn't shake the Wisconsin coaches hand after the game. this is uncalled for

Bielima doesnt do that. He put 80 on Minn not long ago. Classless asshat

It was Indiana. Our third-stringers and walkons were in the game when he "ran up the score" back then.

James White is our backup running back. Melvin Gordon is our third-stringer. And Curt Phillips is our third-string quarterback who's had three ACL surgeries.

Bielema has not passed the ball since the second quarter. What more do you want him to do?

Maybe after the game, he'll apologize for being such a meanie.

  12. Looks like your LB coach is going to Pitt too. And I've still heard Joe may go.

Bielema told reporters today at the Rose Bowl that Huxtable is staying.

Rudolph has already been named offensive line coach. Rumor has it Jay Norvell is a candidate for the offensive coordinator job.

  13. The deal I heard was what was in the thread earlier. Chryst could leave with one assistant and he took the better of the two. Damn.

Actually, I think this is the best situation for us. We've always turned out great offensive linemen and we'll continue to do so. But recruiting has always been more of a struggle for us since Wisconsin doesn't produce a lot of top FBS-level talent. Besides, the tight ends and offensive linemen work pretty closely together, so I imagine some of what Bostad was teaching rubbed off on Rudolph.

  14. Word is that Chryst has offered both Bob Bostad (offensive line coach) and Joe Rudolph (tight ends coach who is a recruiting machine) positions on his staff. Bielema apparently wants to keep one of them on as OC and the other one will leave with Chryst. I do wonder if Chryst's brother Geep (qbs coach with the 49ers) will join him at Pitt.

I'm torn as to which coach I'd like to see retained. Bostad's olines have been downright sick, but Rudolph regularly gets great recruits from Ohio and Pennsylvania.

I heard that last year Texas offered Cryst $1million to be their OC. I'm not saying he held out for more cash and a HC job, I'm saying he would have rather been paid squat than coach at Texas.

Chryst is a very down-to-earth, low-key, almost humdrum kind of guy. He doesn't like the spotlight. I can see him not getting along well with Mack Brown and not enjoying the "WE ARE TEXAS, EFF EVERYONE ELSE" attitude at that program.

  15. I think Nebraska fans are overly sensitive. Come on guys these are words. I haven’t heard anything about any beating or murders.

Well, yeah. We save the beatings and murders for when Ohio State is in town. That's also when we go postal on the handicapped people, little kids and grandmothers.

  16. The band director, Mike Leckrone, came up with the Fifth Quarter (where the band comes onto the field and entertains fans after the game) back in the '70s when the football team sucked and they needed a way to keep people from leaving before the end of the game.

Back then the students also used to find ways entertain themselves since the product on the field was pretty depressing. Thus the multiple wave formations (slowdown, fast, reverse and split) and the singing and chanting.

It's from these kinds of things that we get our reputation as fans -- that the environment around gameday is just as important to a lot of UW fans (and maybe even more important) as the game itself. That can be taken as a negative, but rest assured that win or lose Wisconsin fans will always have a good time.
