  1. Is there anyone here who meticulously edits the Nebraska rosters to get the equipment right down to the arm bands? Maybe a few re-rated players too?

Every year I use Carson's rosters (from OperationSports), which are due out Thur, then I exhaustively update major B1G teams, OSU, UM, MSU, etc. I have a spreadsheet I use to track the changes, which makes it easier to write down the facemask, arm bands, etc.

Is there anyone who could help me out with Nebraska's changes/equipment?

  2. On top of the well-covered changes to passes (throwing over defenders, to sidelines), they also made big changes to dual threats. Fast QBs can finally run like they should (they made it too easy for a DT to stay with Denard in the pocket) but they can't fling it at a sprint like last year. You have to stop and set your feet to throw a 20 yd laser.

They also made it hard to throw a one step drop that isn't part of the play. Last year, if you saw the flat uncovered you could hot route a guy outside and throw it instantly. Heck it often worked even if it was covered in man. Now those passes often go incomplete because the receiver isn't ready for em.

They totally overhauled recruiting as well, made it much mroe indepth, strategic and took out the stupid random pitches.

  3. Thanks Saunders, make sure to post your gamertag so I can check them out. I'm on a 360, so if you're a PS3 user, I may request that you share the changes here (the re-rated players and changed players).

    It's DarkSaunders

Have you had a chance to upload your roster changes yet?

The operation sports rosters are due out at 3 pm, so I'm hoping to make all of my big ten changes today and re-upload by at least tonight (have company visiting or it would be sooner)

  4. Here's a completed roster with numbers.

Thanks, are these simply names & numbers for the players EA chose? Or did you make changes?

I played the demo last night and played OU vs UT. I noticed OU's jersey's are different this year. They look terrible, I sure hope this isn't the jersey they are going with. Their jerseys on the game say "Sooners" on the back of their pants it looks eerily similar to a tramp stamp. But I guess that is fitting considering they are UT's bitches.

Better yet, I am suprised UT hasnt forced the remaining teams to have the long whorn symbol stamped to everyones jersey in that position.

Those are their pro combat alternates they wore once last year. Nike did this with about 10 schools. The really stupid thing is that they used the same basic pant design for almost every school, then had the audacity to try and pass them off as throwbacks for Ohio State (with the wrong helmet).

  6. I need your help: I'm trying to complete the best possible custom roster for NCAA Football 2011. Many do a great job naming every player or making the obvious changes (Seantrel Henderson to Miami, Keith Nichol to WR), but I wanted to focus on each big ten team and find the small changes they overlook due to time constraints, then add those changes on top of custom name roster.

What changes would you make to the Nebraska roster? (see next post) Jersey number, position switches (include rating help),or player swaps.

    Some examples:

PSU WR Chaz Powell moved to corner, so he needed a big bump in ratings to be a solid corner

OSU RG Evan Blankenship is a career backup behind 2+ frosh, so he was converted to frosh DE Baldwin

ups7 is my gamertag for downloading the roster. I'll bump this thread once it is finished (ETA wed or thur)

  7. I gotta disagree with him there, if Nebraska and Ohio State were to play for the National Title this season it really doesn't matter which team wins, it will be a MAJOR boon for the Big 10. To have two teams in the conference going into 2011 that were considered the top 2 teams the year before is never a bad thing...

now if Nebraska were to beat Ohio State for that title I think it would be an even bigger deal in terms of Big 10 clout. It means the Big 10 would be bringing in a team that is perceived to be an elite Nebraska and not just an improving Nebraska that is "almost back".

It would definately cement the Big 10 ahead of the Big 12 in terms of perception going forward and depending on how well Iowa/Wisconsin/Penn State do in their OOC and against Ohio State it could even put the Big 10 in position to surpass the SEC.

I agree. I don't know how Nebraska beating Ohio State would be a bad thing. The Big Ten would get a ton of good publicity from an Ohio State-Nebraska NCG and if Nebraska won, it would just show they are getting a Nebraska that is truly back.

I think it would be a double-edged sword. It would be great for the Big Ten moving forward, but it would reinforce the stereotype that the Big Ten and flagship Buckeyes are overmatched on the biggest stage.

  8. lol, my bad... I think that play and the Flea Kicker (which I knew was Nebraska) somehow rolled together.

Can I substitute a second favorite? The flea flicker play by Michigan in the alamo bowl. Instead of pitching it to a superstar returner and challenging Cal-Stanford for an all-time great lateral play, Tyler Ecker runs for 20 yds alongside Breaston and then non-chalantly accepts going out of bounds.

  9. I have TWC (in KC) and added Big10 network about 5 minutes after the official announcement. $4 a month and you get some other programming like a Fox Sports channel, outdoor channels, etc. So far it's been pretty lame. Lot of unniversity programming BS. They replay a lot of past games as well.

You'll enjoy it more when they have Nebraska week with classic replays ;)

Football season is enjoyable because you get a couple of conference games, every highlight on saturday night (not just 3 plays from OSU, PSU & UM), and then can catch the coaches' shows, which walk you through all of the meaningful highlights. This is a great way to keep tabs on a rival or upcoming opponent.

Basketball season is nice too because you get national access to a lot of games that wouldn't be on TV otherwise. This might not interest Nebraska fans as much, but it is the biggest feature of the BTN (football season is nice but really just replaces Gameplan it doesn't add that much game content, bball does).

Some fans enjoy the access to wrestling, soccer, baseball, softball, track, etc that you would never get otherwise.

The spring is enjoyable because you get a dozen shows at spring practice around the big ten, and at the end they air about 7-8 of them on two saturdays (they usually skip a couple like Northwestern, Purdue, etc).

After that, the content gets pretty weak, but that's the offseason for you. Also, since they have much larger blocks of time to fill, they rotate between a week's worth of classic games for one particular school. This is fun for your school, but means there is a longer lull between interesting games. During the season, they tend to rotate between schools a lot more and use a lot less obscure games for the casual viewer.

The offseason is always dull, because they don't have a full allotment of content yet. They're digitizing about 3-4 decades worth of major games, coaches shows (Bo & Woody giving analysis in their weekly coaches shows), so that will help fill the content when they're done.

  11. When people talk about pre-semester games affecting sales, they mean 105k (Navy) instead of 106 or 107k.

Penn State was #2, and tOSU was #3. Come on, PSU/tOSU, you can do better! (Nebraska was #10)

    Not really, for two reasons:

    a) Our stadium isn't big enough to keep pace

    B) We don't get credited with the 40k in attendance in Ann Arbor last November

  12. I miss being good and arrogant :'(

This is 'the year', and by that I mean if he doesn't produce this year, consider him gone. But saying his offence doesn't work is very incorrect, we were third in the Big10 in scoring, fourth in rushing, passing was weak, but we used freshmen. Three of our games were very close loses, one in OT to sparty. I think the offence will be much improved with returning QB's/wideouts/line, but the D, that's where the question is. Hopefully having the same D cord for the second straight year will help, but we'll see.

No, actually those statistics are extremely misleading. They piled up outrageous numbers against 4 bad OOC opponents which severely distorted their season numbers.

In big ten play, their offense & defense were virtually identical to the units UM fans suffered through in 08, despite the expectation that things could only get better (I shared that opinion about UM's offense).

    UM Team Statistics

    OOC | B10 | Stat

    ----- | ----- |-------

    177 | 174 | Scoring Off 2009

    056 | 175 | Scoring Off 2008

    064 | 266 | Scoring Def 2009

    079 | 272 | Scoring Def 2008

    --------------------------------

    Common B10 Opponents

    08 | 09 | Oppon | Diff in scoring

    -------------------

    20 | 13 | Illinois....| -7

    17 | 10 | PSU.......| -7

    21 | 20 | MSU......| -1

    42 | 36 | Purdue...| -6

    27 | 24 | Wisky... | -3

    07 | 10 | OSU......| +3

RR's decision to overthrow the defensive coordinator and force the 3-3-5 defense onto the field has made the unit noticeably worse, and is a very poor fit for the physical attacks of the big ten (which just got even deeper with another physical force like Nebraska).

But my wants are easy, at least an 7-8 win season, obviously a bowl, a win over 2 of our big 4 (osu, MSU, Penn, ND), and beating the teams we should (ie Illinois/Purdue/Indiana). But I will say I would take a 6 - 6 season and only one win over our big four, I'll let you guess which one that would be....

I think it has to be at least 8, and he cannot lose to sparty unless he wins 10 games. He's had so many inexcusable losses (including MSU 09) that any more will be nearly impossible to recover from.

  13. If Tressel stays:

    OSU 5

    Neb 3

    U-M 1

    PSU 1

If Tressel retires in 5 years or so:

    OSU 3 (3 w/ tress, 1 without)

    Neb 3

    U-M 2

    PSU 1

    WIS 1

    wisconsin over Iowa?

You seem surprised by this. Iowa is good once or twice every five years. Wisconsin is mediocre once every five years, and still dangerous during those down years.
  14. 1. I have Dish and I live in Nebraska. Obviously right now Dish doesn't offer it in Nebraska yet but how long will it take till its added? I've thought about switching to DirecTV because I've been a member with Dish since last July with a 2 year and I've gone thru 4 DVR HD receivers so far (2 would allow me to use my remote with it and the other 2 fried on me....1 even fried on me during the 2nd quarter of the Big 12 championship game grrr.) I wonder if DirecTV will buy the remainder of my contract to get me to switch over....hmmmm.

Within the big ten footprint (school states), the BTN is included in the basic package. I would bet that cable providers (who haven't previously added the BTN) will hold out until at least 2011 to add it. TimeWarner & Comcast held out over a year (maybe more?) before airing games, meaning fans had to run to the sports bar or get satellite.

Dish offers a MultiSport Package for about $8, which has the BTN & overflow-, Fox Sports Regional-, Comcast regional-, NFL Network-, NBA TV -channels.

DirecTV has the Big Ten Network in their basic package, as well as NFL Network (which is far superior to ESPN for NFL highlights, draft, etc). The regional sports channels (beyond your local one) from Fox & Comcast are extra.

I've got a handful of DirecTV discounts I can pass along if you are interested.

$24/mo for 12 mo - is the standard promo discount

    $10/mo for 24 mo

    $10/mo for 10 mo

    $05/mo for 04 mo

Which comes out to an average of 58/mo over the 2 year contract. That's the cost with HD & HD DVR (tack on 5/each for any extra receivers).

If you're interested, post a comment on my user profile page and I'll walk you through it. Good luck getting new equipment for your Dish or discounts, these companies only seem interested in helping the new ones. Oh well.

I'm still using my original HD DVR. It works just fine. Dish doesn't offer the same lineup of channels (FX, BTN & NFL are key channels for me) and they hit you with equipment fees to make up for the difference.

    2. The BTN has how many HD channels like for example channels 440, 441, 442, 443, 444, 445 are all BTN channels that are in HD so a total of 5 game presented in HD.

I believe they have 4 overflow channels + 1 standard channel, all in HD.
  15. 3. How many other schools showed their spring game on the BTN? Did all Big 10 schools show their spring game on the BTN or only a few?

They re-aired these other times during the spring, but here was the schedule for the initial showing.

    4/17 Saturday

Afternoon - Michigan & Wisconsin aired live online, tape delayed later*

    8 pm - *Michigan

10 pm - Highlights of Iowa, Purdue, Indiana spring games

    11 pm - *Wisconsin

    4/24 Saturday

noon? - Ill & MSU aired live online, tape delayed later**

11 am - OSU Lacrosse in the Shoe

01 pm - Ohio State Spring Game

    05 pm - Penn State " "

10 pm - Highlights of Northwestern & Minnesota spring games

    11 pm - **Illinois " "

    4/25 Sunday

    05 pm - **Michigan State

  16. 1) They should have been a big ten team long ago.

    2) They already have 3 major b10 east rivalries (UM, MSU, PUR), and OSU/PSU have history and a lot of fan / recruiting interactions.

    3) They are the most prestigious CFB team in history. They aren't at that level now but even at their depths they are still an enormous force.

    4) They deliver incredible ratings & revenue

    5) We'd rather have direct control over their annual losses and humbling moments

Their undergrad academics are superb, but they are severely lacking in graduate studies and research. Many believe they'd catch up quickly with access to the lucrative CIC.

  17. Every game is either on the BTN, ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.

Virtually every spring game is televised as well (some over the web then tape delay), which is a wonderful blessing in the slow spring months.

The best part is seeing highlights from every game on the BTN sportscenter (which is mediocre but I want the clips not the comments, I can always flip on ESPN if I'm looking for spoonfed propaganda), and the coaches' shows walking us through each significant play.

    Dish as well as DirecTV.

DirecTV has a financial interest in the BTN, so if you're looking for a safe bet, go with them. They'll always have it on their basic package. If you want some information on some discounts for DirecTV, drop me a PM and I'll walk you through some of them. I left cable two years ago and have been very happy ever since.

DirecTV carries the BTN and the overflow channels on its basic package. I believe Dish requires you to buy the sports package unless you live within the BTN footprint (a b10 state).

I have the Cox digital cable package and I don't have the Big 10 network. How much does it cost per month to add it?

I have Cox digital cable package and I had it during the 2009 season, but now I don't see all of the extra channels. Not sure what happened. My guess is that it will now cost additional money to see it. I don't know how much it costs though. Anyone?

a number of providers moved it to a sports package (which generally run 8-10 bucks) after the first year.

Ive watched a few HD games on the Network, let me tell you, the HD is almost better than the larger networks, I was very suprised

How does it compare to VersusHD??? VersusHD comes in so clear and crisp on my tv, it makes ESPN look like crap, but its still good.

the quality of the BTN is excellent. The production isn't always great (they occasionally cut from commercial to a play), and the commentators are average, but they are competing with Fox Sports, what was once ESPN Plus, and that realm of broadcasts. The volume of games is worth the tradeoff in quality, which isn't bad, it just feels like the 2nd tier network it is.

  18. We really needed Texas and Aggy to help balance the west.

I'm sorry but I don't want Texas heading to the Big 10 because they've already screwed over two conferences and I don't want them screwing up another especially a conference with Nebraska in it.

I rather see Notre Dame come in than Texas

Yeah, I respect that side of things, and many of us on BuckeyePlanet have started to sour on our infatuation with Texas. Their manipulation and power plays are better suited in a weak pac-10 conference (in terms of visibility & major revenue sports). The flipside of it is that many OSU fans have a soft side for Texas, as we came to respect their fans and program during our 3 recent games (particularly the year long interactions before the September clashes). Many of us adopted them as a second team to root for casually.

What would you guys do with Notre Dame if they join?

    - They could help balance out the West Division

    - They would allow the Big Ten to look east for expansion (for lucrative markets/academics like Maryland, Rutgers, etc)

    - They are very close to the Illinois border (which is the logical East-West dividing line)

    - They cause less anger & loss to the big ten by sacrificing the Pur/MSU rivalries (I'm assuming they protect the UM game every year across the conf)
