  1. Did see any of the game where we were on defense?

You do realize that Southern Miss:

    a) Had a grand total of 260 offensive yards,

    b) Scored 13 points on offense,

c)Had a brand new coaching staff and Nebraska had absolutely no film to study to learn any of their tendencies,

    d) Kept switching QB's each of whom had a different skill set, and

    e) Is a solid team that always plays hard for 4 quarters?

Of course you do, what am I thinking? :dunno

I'm more concerned with the lack of fundamentals I witnessed. Poor/miss tackling, lack of intensity. That's what concerns me. That front four looked just like last year and last year we were burned quite a few times. That was something we all hoped would have been addressed and seen a marked improvement this year. I guess I/we were wrong. Alford is a good QB who will only get better. But Braxton is going to torch that front line when head to the Shoe.

So will Robinson when Michigan comes to town.

  2. Big pickup. I know Miles is trying his best not to go after foreign players so the fact that he did go after one means hes gotta be good!

I remember that being said about him, but then he hired an assistant (the one from SLU) that is Australian (IIRC) and he is well connected overseas. Seems to be a disconnect there.

I do like what Smiles is doing, it would be great for him to have a ton of success because I'd sure like to care about college basketball, its just not the same when your team is, well, not good.

  3. Swoops: This is a lot different from school, cause we don't really have a playbook.

Texas has to love their recruit saying this!

I thought that too when he said that. Hmm, maybe this is why Mack does so little with so much! chuckleshuffle

  4. Always the conspiracy :) (j/k)

I thought they did it well considering they had 40 minutes to cover 120+ hours of competition. THey should ahve made it a mini series...

    WAHusker,

I think they did make it a series. I know the description on Dish said Episode 1, plus they didn't announce the final winner. It's probably a 2 or 3 part series.

Oops Huskerhill beat me to it

  5. Okay, so if I'm following this correctly... He has Michigan in his top (whatever) but he has to ask another player how many spots are left and the other player will get him the coaches' number.

It doesn't sound to me like Michigan is recruiting him too hard. Wouldn't that be the type of info a highly sought recruit would already know from the coaches? Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but he doesn't even have the coaches phone number to call himself?

Then he says he just doesn't want to waste an official. Doesn't seem like there's a lot of hot interest from either side. Of course what do I know, it's been a long time since I was a 17-18 year old. ;)

  6. How is Taylor not one our 3 reps?

    He didn't want to go.

    Why?

That is something I do not know.

I could speculate that it has something to do with his reticence in front of microphones, or that he just got back from the Manning Camp and has work to do here, but that's pure speculation.

Reed, Compton and Burkhead are three exceedingly good guys in front of the cameras, so perhaps that was a factor.

Could it be that he's a Junior and the three that went are Seniors?

  7. Can't remember what year, but John Alt had gone down with an injury so the Chiefs needed a left tackle and Will moved over from right Guard to play it that week. I was on the sideline with Rich Baldinger (Former Chief OL and was a co-host on a Chiefs Post Game Show) I listened to Rich just marvel at how Will basically played a flawless game at Left Tackle. He would point out how his footwork was basically perfect. He likened Will doing this to someone who had written with their right hand their entire life learning how to write perfectly with their left hand in three or four days. Will was quite an amazing athlete! I also had the pleasure of working with him when he'd do color commentary for Metro Sports Friday night High School Game of the Week and he is a true gentleman and one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Glad he was a Husker and a Chief, nothing like having such a great person play so many years for your favorite teams!!!!!

He better make the Pro Football HOF Next Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. That's the one thing I don't like about how Bo recruits. He'd make an awful salesman. "Look, I know you want to buy this Cadillac, but go home and sleep on it, talk about it with your wife and get back to me tomorrow."

If you had a limit on how many Cadillacs you could sell, and if you sold a Cadillac to someone that could take it home today and return any time before February with no charge to them, then as a salesman wouldn't you want them to know they really wanted the Cadillac before they took it off the lot?

  9. Let's get this kid...runner and a passer. Would love to see him at NU. Latest from Husker Journal.

JUNE 17, 2012. ALL TEAMS MESSAGE BOARDS JOHNNY STANTON, QB, 6-2, 200, RANCHO SANTA MAGARITA (CATHOLIC), CALIFORNIA

Huskers And Beavers Latest To Offer Stanton

“I got both Nebraska and Oregon State offers today (6/14). It was a very good for me. Coach Tim Beck (Nebraska) asked me through an e-mail to call him so I called back 3 PM today so that’s when he told me – he offered me.”

“Beck said he was looking forward to me they liked how I threw on Tuesday while I visited them. One of the things they were looking for make sure I can run. They looked at my high school tape and felt confident.” Stanton said

    Nebraska Type QB

“He (Beck) thinks I fit very well in their offense. He said they are very excited about me. Nebraska prides them self on running quarterbacks. There are not very many quarterbacks that fit their offense very well.”

“They (NU) like the way I can pass as well. I think that is something they like about me. They like my competiveness.” Stanton said

“There were only six schools that offered me as a quarterback and Nebraska is one of these BCS schools that offered me as a quarterback. That’s (NU offer) something I’m considering very highly. Nebraska is a great school and I’m very interested.” Stanton said

Stanton said other schools that offered him as a quarterback are Air Force, Navy, Utah, and Oregon State, Utah State. The Washington Huskies and California Berkeley offered him as an athlete.

“I want to play quarterback.” Stanton said

    "Best Fans In America”

“I heard about how they (NU) have the best fans in America and I think that says something. I’m looking for a great fan base. I’m sure there is a lot of schools top that but they can’t offer the tradition Nebraska has.” Stanton said

“It’s very cool a huge stadium, the facilities they have, and great coaching staff. It’s all very appealing. It’s all very cool.” Stanton added

“I visited Oregon State yesterday (6/13) it was only one hour drive. I wasn’t able to talk to Coach Mike Riley because he wasn’t there; he wasn’t able to officially offer me. He really likes the way I throw. Future Visit To Wisconsin

“I think I’m going to Wisconsin in two weeks,” he says. “We don’t have anything else planned. They (Wisc) recently had Russell Wilson. They have great quarterback tradition. They did very well the last few years.”

“I actually have to know more about Wisconsin. They’ve been in the national spot light the last couple years. Actually it’s a pretty good school.”

    Versatile QB

“I think I can be considered a dual threat. I think I can throw as well. My accuracy in the off season is what I need to work on. Coaches have noticed that it’s becoming one of my strengths. I work on that a lot.” Stanton said

“I’m probably not one of the fastest guys on the Nebraska program. I probably only run a 4.7 range more of a downhill runner. I was told I have good feet. I would like to see what I can do at the next level. The games are a lot faster.” Stanton said

“I’m excited for my senior year for football; I’m clearly invested for the season it’s still fun to think about the next level.”

    cornhead.gif

Seems into us but I can not get over this statement "I’m looking for a great fan base. I’m sure there is a lot of schools top that" Want to be bet just ask Lee Corso! And Musberger! And other announcers.

This is a big downfall of recruits committing so early now, he could commit to Oregon and never know how awesome our gameday atmosphere is. Its so important to get juniors in for Gamedays this year, this trend isnt going to stop its just going to get worse.....ie 2014 players this fall. The programs that are going to succeed are going to be the ones that have coaches that recognize talent early (as a soph) and get on them early. Some 70 percent of the top 100 are already committed.....before their senior season, thats mind boggling to me. Your always going to have your late bloomers thou.

I keep seeing posters say Oregon, but from what I can tell he didn't go visit Oregon he went to visit Oregon State, big difference there folks, big difference.

  10. minnesota offered

    :ahhhhhhhh

Im not saying Minny is Michigan but word I Think they are poise to make a little move! My point... Don't sleep on em....word is their coach can sell.

Kill did coach in Kansas for a couple of years. Maybe he's got some relationships with coaches there. I'm not too worried though.

IIRC I believe he coached at Emporia State which is in, well, Emporia...and Jerel is from Emporia...could be some connection.

  11. I blame the sloppy NBA play more on the 24sec. Shot clock. Not enough time to run a multiple set on offense when ya got 18 seconds after the point guard gets the ball over half court. Then when the shot clock gets to 5-7 secs. Whoever has the ball has to go 1on 1.

You can't be serious. the 24sec clock has been around since the 50's.

Well sure, but time moved so much slower back then! ;)

  12. I thought I read somewhere that his buyout would be reduced if we went back to work this next season. I think I saw that in the KC Star. Sorry can't remember where. If that's the case I doubt TG has a paid coaching gig anywhere next season.

  13. Didn't Osborne say this exact same thing when it was announced we were heading to the B1G?

IIRC he said that other schools were looking around too. I know he and Pearlman were saying one school leaving doesn't end a conference but six schools leaving does. I think they also said that those schools were looking at the Pac-10, but I don't remember anybody saying it went back as far as 2009. This does validate to those outside Husker Nation that Nebraska did NOT start this process, nor did Missouri. If Texas started negotiating with the Pac10 in 2009 they certainly started this process.

  14. This isn't anything new, per se--we've known for a while that Scott and UT were as thick as thieves as far back as 2009. We didn't know they already had schedules completed for the six teams Texas wanted to take, which one can read as the Pac-10 and Texas thinking this was a slam-dunk.

It is refreshing to see a non-Nebraska publication (save for Dodd's article some time ago about how Texas kicked this all off) placing Texas in discussions and laying the blame of the current environment directly at their feet.

And, if anything, it appears that Texas may have overplayed their had with Larry Scott re: Bevo TV. I fully expect that Texas will have to ditch Bevo TV in order to move, should they feel it necessary in the upcoming years--that, or Texas will join the ranks of the independent--ranks which may thin soon enough.

Where had we seen the 2009 interest from Texas? I have tried to stay up to date on all this as much as possible and I don't recall seeing anything that went back to 2009. The earliest I remember was in 2010 during the BigXII meetings in the spring where Pearlman said that Texas had been talking to the Pac-10. Now of course he could have been eluding to something that happened in 2009, but I don't recall that being spelled out. Not trying to call you out, I guess I just don't remember seeing it and wondered where I missed it.

I do agree that UT has overplayed their hand and it would appear as long as the LHN is around nobody other than the Big XII will play with them. This of course may mean the Big XII stays viable for much longer than most of us anticipated. If Texas can't go anywhere but independent they may be able to hold this thing together longer. I wonder if OU will stay as Bevo's biotch as long as they don't go undefeated and NOT get into the Championship game due to their weak schedule. If that happens they may bolt right away potentially even unhitching themselves from OSU, much to the chagrin of T. Boone Pickens. Of course, what the hell do I know! :)
