  1. It would be great to play an unbeaten OU for the last Big 8 (12) championship. NU OU, undefeated teams with national championship implications. Doesn't get any better than that.

But OU needs to BARELY beat Texas, and it needs to be controversial, so that when Texas comes to Lincoln they think that they're still the best team in the history of college football that just got screwed out of a game. I want them STUNNED when they leave town.

  2. I'm sure it was Sarkisian giving us the first place vote, not Bo.

Bo is the kind of coach that after winning 8 straight national championships, the Coaches poll would give us 58/59 first place votes, and Bo would use the only non-first place vote as a slight to his team, saying, "They don't think we're #1! They think you're weak! What've you got to say about that, Blackshirts?!" and work his team into a frenzy before a game against Doane College. And all the while, it was Bo that didn't vote them #1.

  3. Name ONE example of a more impressive first road start by a Nebraska quarterback.

I can't think of one more impressive than this one, not by a freshman or a senior, not by Gill, Frazier, Frost, Crouch... There's certainly room for Taylor to improve, and there always will be, but good grief. This is gettin serious...

    7/11, 150 yards, 1 TD, 0 int

    19 carries, 137 yards, 3 TDs

Yeah there is....When Nebraska went to the Kick off Classic..in NJ to start defending their championship....It was Tommie Frazier

Couple problems... That was 1994, so they weren't defending the championship yet. It was against West Virginia, so it wasn't a true road game. And Tommie Frazier's first road start was in 1992.

He was asking "Can I think of a more impress Road win by a freshmen or senior" not a Road Start?? And yes they were defending the 1994 championship when they beat Miami the year before. You have to remember...the game against West Virgina was in in the Kick Off Classic in 1994 They went off to win their second title in 95they won the 95...

Yikes... First of all, "He" was me, and I actually did, in fact, ask if anyone could think of a more impressive first road start. As for the rest of what you just said...

    Good effort, though.

  4. Nah. Not enough hype at this point of the year, and too many other weapons on the offense to share the wealth with. Nobody, even Martinez, is going to put up eye-popping numbers like Dennard Robinson, simply because they don't have to.

After last year, when Suh actually finished BEHIND McCoy in the Heisman race, I've officially stopped caring who wins the award.

  5. Please inform me what was so terrible about his passing game?

Nothing. I'm just pointing out that capt obvious sees the vertical passing game as a concern and you provide no evidence or commentary to dispute that.

What??? I posted his passing stats for today. What more do you need???

How many of those throws were over 20 yards? That's what I'd call a vertical passing game. His straight passing numbers don't address that.

Oh, so he's not throwing 30 to 70 yrd bombs.

Heh....wow....ok, "great" point. Diss him at your leisure my friend.

This isn't about throwing 70 yard bombs every play, it's about adding more weaponry to your arsenal. Adding a legitimate deep ball threat to our solid running game would be devastating.

This isn't a diss on TMart so you can drop the white knight act

I think our offense is pretty devastating "right now" and we have no need for long bombs. Tmart "right now" is very possibly a better passer than Frost/Frazier or Crouch were.

I'm just sooooo sick of hearing we need the "long ball" to succeed. But whatever.....carry on.

Really???? Just a third party listening to this but...

You don't think we need a deep passing game to succeed against MNC type competition to go with our running game? Think we can run against Alabama with 9 guys in the box without getting a deep ball every now and then?

Oh, and by the way you were the one that refuted we didn't have a vertical passing game when you obviously have no damn idea what "vertical" means in this instance. Are you resting your head on Martinez's chest tonight or what? Why are you so defensive?

Why can't everybody be objective to these things instead of getting a stiffy for a player? Why are people who are so ignorant as to phrasing in a post so quick to shoot off at the mouth?

Just because Martinez hasn't thrown a bomb doesn't mean he doesn't have it. Just this week, the coaches came out and said he DOES have it, Watson said his deep ball is the best he's ever coached.

Keep in mind that due to the lopsided nature of these games, Nebraska still hasn't shown that much of their offense. There are playaction passes and different option looks that I guarantee are in the playbook that we haven't been witness to yet this season. Wait 'til Texas...

  6. They're easily the frontrunners in the PAC 10, and before watching Arizona dominate Iowa in the 1st half tonight, I was thinking UO would waltz through their conference schedule. But AZ may prove to be a test.

As for their competition, Portland State... UO might as well play a high school team. New Mexico's not much better. They did beat Tenn. better than Florida did though.

    Mandel on the game:

Power football is officially back at Nebraska -- and with it, realistic BCS championship aspirations.

Watching the Huskers' rushing attack flat-out bulldoze upset-minded Washington on Saturday was like taking a trip back to the '90s. Nebraska racked up 383 rushing yards in a 56-21 rout (RECAP | BOX). At one point, the Huskers rushed 19 straight times for 246 yards and four touchdowns. It was exactly how Nebraska used to beat people during its heyday, though with a modern twist: Freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez (who broke an 80-yard run en route to his third straight 100-yard rushing game) operates out of the shotgun, executing the zone read with I-backs Roy Helu Jr. and Rex Burkhead much like one of Chip Kelly's Oregon quarterbacks would. (Helu Jr. and Burkhead also ran for more than 100 yards.)

The Nebraska defense did its thing, too, limiting Huskies star Jake Locker to a nightmarish 4-of-20, 71-yard, two-interception performance. (Washington can go ahead and shut down its "Locker 4 Heisman" campaign.) This was a harsh reality check for Steve Sarkisian's program, which learned it still has a ways to go in its rebuilding effort. But the more pertinent message to take away from this one is that Martinez and the Huskers are for real. That Texas game can't get here soon enough.

    :koolaid2: :koolaid2: :koolaid2: :koolaid2: :koolaid2: :koolaid2:

Still think we need a Snuffy emoticon.

  9. Not gonna worship Taylor or anything, but the kid has showed up in every game so far this year. Let's hope we see some more growth and strong performances from him. I do wonder what it will be like when the day comes when he will need to beat a team with his arm. So far, we haven't been tested. But this game, was a big statement game coming from Nebraska. Watch out, nation.

Maybe this is just me yearning for the good ole days, but I'm not sure that we'll need him to beat people with his arm. We have so many threats running the ball, and are doing it so well that we may be able to just keep moving the chains on the ground like the Husker teams of old.

We'll see. Based on how the PAC 10 is doing in non-conference play, we're going to see a significant step-up in speed in Big 12 play, so we'll learn more at that point.

  10. i dont understand why Denard Robinson for Mich is being talked about more then Tmart. Just watching post game coverage etc, I feel Tmart is the better Freshman QB. Idk how the stats compare, but you gotta give Tmart some credit for going into a hostile away game and winning in a big way...needs passing practice, but if he runs 50+ TD runs, who needs to pass?

    T-Mart

    28-43 392 Yards, 65.1% Comp %, 1 TD, 1 INT, 144.72 Passing Effeciency

    40 Carries, 421 Yards, 8 TD's

    D-Rob

    53-76 671 Yards, 69.7% Comp %, 4 TD, 1 INT, 158.64 Passing Effeciency

    74 Carries, 559 Yards, 4 TD's

I don't think this particular argument will truly be settled for a while, until each player has played against more quality competition during conference play.

It'll be fun to watch each player on the same field starting next year, though.

  11. Well, I just haven't seen anything from May that makes me think he hates the Huskers. He was not the only one that had questions about our team going into this game. And I shared many of their questions on just how well we'd play in Washington.

What exactly did we show prior to this game? Not much really beyond potential against pretty low tier opponents. And Washington was probably thought to be in a little better shape than they actually are right now. Now we've shown that we're probably a legit top 10 team.

None of that was really known before this game, so I find it pretty hard to blame people for wondering just how we'd end up faring.

May is a douche, but not because he hates the Huskers. He just comes off as a douche all the time, no matter who he's talking about.

    :yeah:laughpound
