  1. Illinois is playing pretty well. I'm actually surprised at Missouri, defense isn't really playing well and their offense has been sputtering so far. This is good news for us! Then again maybe its just that I haven't watched any Big 10 teams really. Its 13-3 Illinois at the half.

  2. Nebraska plays Iowa every year the day after Thanksgiving, like they did Colorado. Nebraska also plays Penn State every year. Just saw this on the news. The two yet to be named divisions are as follows. I think they are pretty well balanced, and also preserve most of the rivalries, which is what the Big 10 was trying to do. Thoughts?

    DIVISION 1

    Michigan

    Nebraska

    Iowa

    Michigan State

    Minnesota

    Northwestern

    DIVISION 2

    Ohio State

    Penn State

    Wisconsin

    Illinois

    Purdue

    Indiana

  3. Heres the actual link.

LINCOLN — Barney Cotton may have felt tempted, after losing his most experienced offensive lineman to a broken leg, to mutter four words in disgust: Here we go again.

But Cotton said he didn't do it.

“No,” Cotton said Wednesday, discussing the season-long loss of two-year starting left tackle Mike Smith. “We're going to be the toughest we've ever been since we've been here. We're going to try to stay out of the training room.

“This year's all about being physically tougher and mentally tougher up front.”

Still, the loss of Smith is damaging. The 6-foot-6, 285-pound senior from Las Vegas went down in practice Tuesday. He started all 14 games last year and 12 in 2008 — more combined than any Husker but classmate Mike McNeill.

Smith did not appear likely to begin this season as a starter; instead he may have filled a swing role at center, left guard and his old position. Tuesday's practice, in fact, marked his first day at left tackle this month as newcomer Jermarcus Hardrick missed a second straight day following a bout of heat-related illness.

“It hurts,” junior center Mike Caputo said, “but that's kind of the way it goes in football.”

The loss harkens to the past few seasons, when injuries crushed the Huskers' O-line depth. They began practice last weekend as healthy as at any time in recent years, but already Hardrick and top left guard Keith Williams missed time — and then Smith got hurt.

“Obviously, it's one less guy,” coach Bo Pelini said, “but we still have great competition. We still have good depth.”

Hardrick may return Thursday, and Williams practiced Wednesday after missing the first portion of this week.

Cotton, the third-year offensive line coach, said Smith's absence hurts Nebraska's versatility more than its depth. He could have played behind Williams and Caputo while serving as a safety valve at left tackle, where Hardrick is contending for time with redshirt freshman Jeremiah Sirles.

“That's what his goal was,” Cotton said, “to be a guy who could help us at multiple spots.”

The right side of the line looks set with guard Ricky Henry and tackle Marcel Jones.

“Smitty, he's a great player,” said Jones, who started 11 games last year as a sophomore. “He has a lot of experience, and we're going to miss him a lot. But that just tells other guys that they've got to step up. Their number's called, and that's one thing you've got to do when you're on the o-line.

“You've got to be ready at all times, because injuries happen.”

Junior walk-on Luke Lingenfelter joined the 105-man roster for preseason camp Wednesday to replace Smith as Nebraska practiced in full pads for the first time.

Others are preparing to train at new positions.

Sophomore guard Brandon Thompson, among others, took snaps at center as practice ended inside the Hawks Center on Wednesday. Behind Caputo, the Huskers have redshirt freshmen Cole Pensick and Nick Ash, plus true freshman Mark Pelini, Bo's nephew.

Smith, who redshirted in 2006, could petition the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility in 2011, though there's some question over the likelihood of its acceptance. The granting of a sixth-year waiver usually requires a player to miss two seasons to injury. Smith did not miss a game from 2007 through 2009.

“We'd like to have him,” Bo Pelini said. “It's a pretty clean break. It'll be something that he'd recover from fully. It'll be awhile. I'd anticipate that he'd want to come back another year.”

  4. After thinking about this a lot, I'm just gonna let her go and be her friend. If something is meant to happen it will happen in time. I'm gonna stop beating myself up over her and move on. It's still gonna take a little to get used to this new mindset, but in the long run I think it will be better for both of us. I am not gonna remain shackled to her when there are tons of other great girls out there. And like I said, who knows what the future holds.

  5. Four words

MOD EDIT - I know you're just being funny, but that belongs in the Shed.

Jeez-okay, let's see if this get the approval of the "PC police". She's known you for a long enough time, she's not currently with anyone right now(granted-total rebound situation, but that's her issue to deal with, not yours), she knows that you were previously interested in her and she headed right for you. If you don't jump on(literlly) this opportunity, someone else will(literally). This is your shot, and it's your to blow or take advantage of(literally, or not so much so).

First off I'd like to say thank you for everyones input.

She IS seeing someone right now. Thats the problem. I don't know what to do. First time I've ever been in this situation and I've been asking a bunch of people what they think. I know that ultimately it is my decision, but I've talked with my buddies and a few girls that I am just friends with and get their input on the situation, as well as HUSKERBOARD lol.

At the moment its kinda 50/50 among my friends whether shes put me in the friend zone or trying to find a way out of her current relationship. The fact that I am the only ones shes told means that she obviously trusts me, and that she is telling me because she thinks she can do so without any problems (because I'm "just a friend") or that she's giving me a way in.

  6. Thanks for the advice everyone. Glad to know that I've got the Huskerboard supporting me lol.

Anyways, I am not "the guy" who is gonna try and ruin her relationship. I've pretty much gotten over her. Heck I hadn't seen her for over 4 months. The reason why we even hung out the other day is shes buying my car. Thats it, and all of the recent texts I have sent her are related to the car. Ever since she told me that shes dating this guy I have not once asked to hang out with her. We do text about other random stuff, like whether a movie is good, or a new song we heard, etc.

All I expected to do the other day was head over, let her test drive it, and then leave. I didn't expect a full hour of talking after that. We were just catching up and I asked her whether she was hanging with her bf soon and if I should leave, and she tells me that she doesn't want to because they are going to have a fight, and then she tells me about whats going on. Another thing I am trying to figure out is that when I went to leave SHE hugged me, again not expecting it. And it was way longer then it should have been if it was just a friendly hug.

As far as the OP goes, sorry chris but it sounds like you are already squarely in her friend zone. Just the fact that she confides in you about her douchey BF is a bad sign. Take it from me, this is not the position you want to be in. It took me years to realize that the last person in the world a girl wants to be involved with is someone they can lean on and trust 100%. Sure it makes no damn sense, but that's women for you.

Can I ask without getting to specific, whether you two ever fooled around when you dated? And was she in this relationship at the time? I only ask, because that can be a good way to determining what this girls feelings are towards you.

We went out a few times, took her to some movies, hung at her place a few times, made out once. She was not dating her current bf at the time we were doing all that. Most of our relationship though has been through texting and phone calls.

  7. Girl I like, we've been friends for almost a year, we went out a few times but at the moment she has a boyfriend who she is having problems with. I've fooled around with other girls but I always end up going back to thinking about her. There's just some sort of connection, something I feel when I am with her or think about her that I don't feel around any other girl I've known or dated. Ever. Even though she's seeing this guy, and I've seen a couple girls in the time between, there is a friendship, emotional connection, or whatever you wanna call it between us, that is still there.

Ok so apparently just yesterday her boyfriend went through her phone and looked at her messages, which she feels angry about. Long story short he's jealous I guess, and has a lot of trust issues and what not. Anyways they've been fighting. She told me about the phone thing today when we were hanging out, I'm not sure if I am in the friend zone, seeing as how she told me this. I HOPE NOT! She knew once at least that I liked her.

I'm at a loss of what to do now. How do I make it known that I still have feelings for her but not cause our friendship to end? I honestly don't think their relationship will last but its not like I'm gonna wait it out, I'm gonna see other girls, but I also don't wanna be "just a friend" if and when they do break up. Ya know?

  8. Just wondering, the big conferences are...

    ACC

    SEC

    Big 12

    Big 10

    Big East

    Pac-10

Cant think of anymore off the top of my head. Thats 3 with "Big" in their names. Big 10 could become the Northeastern Conference (not sure if there is one already) Big 12 could become the Central State Conference, just throwing out ideas lol. If they do insist on using numbers, make sure another conference doesn't share the first part of you name... the Pac-10(12) can add any number of teams.

  9. Why not change the Big 12 to the Big 10 and the Big 10 to the Big 12 to keep in line with the number of teams? Brand names aside, its not like people wont know who is who. Just be weird to have a conference with 10/12 teams called the Big 12/10. They wont, but just saying if the Pac-10 is doing it...
