    NU calls off Pelini press conference

    By Mitch Sherman

    WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

    The school issued a press release Tuesday to announce the change and added this message to the media: “This teleconference is an opportunity to discuss the 2011 recruiting class and signing day and not various other topics.”

    This surely didnt put out any fires....

  2. I was kind of thinking the same thing. With the greyshirt offer going out you would think the coaches are pretty confident on at least two others. And maybe not so sure on another.

    I really think we pulled Peat

    Hopefull on the WR and Virgile to round out the class

    I am thinking that Peat goes to ASU. We will not land Turene. Onwuasor is gone. Virgile is a question... maybe... maybe not.

    So... I'd say we are done re. major recruits --- in that Peat is likely going to ASU and Lockhardt likely to V. Tech. Of the remaining people, none in the "major" recruit class... Virgile and Bass are possibles. May get both... may get neither. But no 4 star is out there with NU as their lean... at least that I know of.

    Hopefully a surprise will happen and a big fish will be landed. So long as we hang on to what we have... we'll be fine. It will be a good to very good class. The main strengths.... OLine and RB... the weaknesses... fine quality at LB and DB but not enough quantity.

    the weaknesses should be that we have too many projects (Givens, Allen, Davie, Pirman, Turner - if he moves to WR at some point soley on being to athletic to not be on the field) and 2 JUCOs - they have a few months to learn the system and are considered busts if they dont start or see the field immediately!

    I'll give you Davie, but Turner will fit in somewhere, Pirman is a weight room project as well as Givens.

    putting on that much weight can take years to adjust too...and Turner is a helluva "athlete" but if they keep moving him around he will never reach his full potential, so does he stay at QB or does he get moved to WR midway through his career?

    After the Arkansas coaches, which included coach Bobby Petrino came down to visit Charles Jackson for an in-home visit recently, the Nebraska coaches came the next day. "He's going to Nebraska," Jackson's father said.

    Rick Parker, Charles' father said that sealed the deal for his son and his commitment to Nebraska. It was all about the relationship with the Husker coaches.

    PLAYER CARD: Charles Jackson | | #2 CB | Klein (Tx.) Collins

  5. Won't be here for Missouri game. Wants to visit later though..

    I can't shake the feeling he is a bit of a prima donna and I don't care if we get him or not.

    Can't a kid just be indecisive without being a prima donna...

  6. As stated before these polls are a joke, especially if our fan base gets involved with them.

    And I must admint I have seen nothing from Taylor to think he is the best QB in the country, not even in the top 10-15 as far as I am concerned. He has been dynamic at times against less than stellar competition, lack luster against lower compettition. Over running polls like this is the reason we have the title as the most unrealistic fans in the world.

    When we have something that is the best, that is the time to vote for them, then it means something. If he were to win it would be a joke.

    +1 ya on this. It is great that so many of us back the Cornhuskers in so many different ways. But as skersfan said there is a time and place for everything andnlast sentance hit the nail on the head.

    By the way isn't it slightly ironic that the O'Brien trophey is an arm throwing the ball and Taylor has shown a pretty inept ability to do so so far? :dunno

    First off there is nothing wrong with voting for these polls, it counts for five percent of the decision. The rules are you can votte once for day we are not over running the polls. If you no of someone creating several email adress to vote more than once per day than I agree with you. Other than that we aren't doing anything differant than any other fan base.

    Yes I see the Irony of the trophy in a throwing stance but running qbs have won it before. Michael Bishop won it in 98 and Crouch in 01.

    For those who would like to get Taylor into the discussion he is only 5 votes behind Landry.

    His point was why am I going to vote for a QB who does not deserve the award? If you really believe Taylor deserves it then you need to take off the rose colored glasses.

    He doesn't deserve it, I'm not going to sit and be biased because he is a Husker. This is the problem with awards in the first place. It's a popularity contest and not necc. the best.

    :yeah

  7. We have only offered two RB's in this class, Aaron and Malcolm Brown. Because the staff isnt pressing to offer anyother backs leads me to believe we already ahve Aaron locked up and the staff knows it. Kids will take their time, and take their vsisits to be abolsutly sure. Plus this staff encourages kids to be positive about their choice, no going back on their word.

    Didnt we also offer that RB who committed to ISU...

  8. Jamal Turner recorded his 15th consecutive 100 yard rushing game last night but it wasn't enough to beat crosstown rival Arlington Bowie. Final score 49-34.

    JT's game stats:

    Passing = 15/25 (60%), 202 yds., 1 TD

    Rushing = 20 att., 126 yds., 6 yds./att., 4 TD

    JT's season stats after 5 games:

    Passing = 62/123 (50%), 705 yds., 3 TD, 2 INT.

    Rushing = 124 att., 1,024 yds., 8 yds./att., 19 TD

    Sam Houston (2-3, 1-1) got its offense going late in the first half, scoring on a 3-yard TD run from quarterback Jamal Turner.

    But, for the most part, Bowie managed to hold Turner in check. Turner entered the game with 14 consecutive 100-yard rushing games, and needed a 60-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter to make it 15 straight.

    "I thought our defense played really well until the middle of the third quarter," Perry said. "But Jamal Turner is a great player, and that was a great run he had at the end."

    I cant wait until he beats out Tmart for the starting position! :box

  9. Rated the visit an 8.5

    Said he is actually looking around and will take a "serious" look at Nebraska.

    One of his high school coaches has ties.

    -----------------

    Positive but he's still long shot IMO

    "8.5"... ouch... between the team's performance and the fans in the stands being quiet, I'm not surprised though

    with such a bad rating I dont expect him to commit unless we go undefeated and his remaining trips are as bad this one
