  1. My Mom & I have "Mother-Daughter Football Weekend" once a year. We've been doing it several years now. Mom hadn't been to a game in 50 years, and it had been 25 years for me. Mom said they used to sell "knot hole" tickets for some crazy price like 10 cents. My cousin sets us up with a parking pass, we wander around Husker Nation where we stop to visit our favorite color-commentator, have attended a few Huskerboard tailgates, and head to our seats! You don't have to worry about her sitting most of the game, because she's up and down with the rest of the crowd! We missed the NU/Iowa St. game in October because Mom was here waiting the arrival of her 2nd great-grandchild, and fell and broke her hip! She'll be 79 next week, and God willing.....we'll be at a game sometime this fall!

  2. My good son, Dan, me, and my Mom at a Huskerboard tailgate!

Haha was the bolded above a mistake or is he really your "good son?"

I refer to him as my "good son" because both my boys were born here in Ohio, but my oldest is a Buckeye fan. Dan is a Husker....hence the "good son"! :)

  3. I had dinner for our oldest son, who turned 30 on Wednesday, and wanted something easy but good. I found this recipe and thought I'd share. Roxy, you always have such good recipes, and I've tried several!

I usually get about a 10 lb. brisket. You'll need a good sized roasting pan and heavy duty foil. Cover the bottom and sides of the pan with foil, and let the foil go over the sides so that you will be able to cover the brisket when it is time to start cooking. Preheat the oven to 225 degrees. Place the brisket fat side up into the foiled pan. Now comes the fun part!

Get 3 of your favorite beers. You'll only need one for the brisket, the other 2 are for you! You will have deserved it! Pour the bottle of beer over the brisket. This will be the marinade, along with some spices, because the slow cooking will disperse all those flavors throughout the meat. Sprinkle a finely chopped sweet onion all over the brisket. Now for the seasoning:

Mix these in a small bowl:

    2 Tablespoons Kosher salt

1 Tablespoon Fresh Ground Black Pepper

    1 teaspoon allspice

    2 Tablespoons Onion Powder

    1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder

    2 Tablespoons Chili Powder

Rub this mixture all over the top, fatty side of the brisket, as well as the sides. Pull the overlapping foil onto the top of the brisket, until it is completely covered.

Now comes the hard part.....you will need to wait about 10-12 hours for the brisket to be fork-tender and ready! Enjoy!

  4. Been there and done that......hilarious!

    So with you Jo Ann.

So.....here are a few things I can remember: Captain Kangaroo, riding bikes (with my wicker basket), playing baseball in the dead-end street, penny candy, Crayola crayons. I think I was 5 or 6 when JFK was killed and can remember my Mom crying when she heard the news. Albums, 45's, 8 track tapes. Corduroy jumpers with fishnet hose. Bell bottoms, the Monkees. MIA bracelets. Black lights and posters. Ouija boards and slumber parties. Not being allowed to wear pants to school, and getting sent home once because I wore cullottes. Shopping in downtown Omaha (because there weren't any malls yet). Nancy Drew books. Peace signs. Mini skirts. And finally.....we had to be back home by the time the street lights went on! Ohhh........the good ol' days! :D

  5. We just got home from Vegas at 2 a.m. this morning. Had a great week, and the Husker victory was awesome! I called Torino's to see about watching the game there. A lady named Mary Ann answered the phone and invited us to come. She said, "Girlfriend....bring your party stuff, because you are going to have a blast!" We got a cab and went! They had a billboard outside "Welcome Husker Fans" and inside is really cool! Husker flags, etc. all over the bar! There must have been about 25 huge TV's too.....not a bad seat in the house! They had a "Husker Game Menu" where specials were offered. The place was full of Husker fans! It's the official Las Vegans for Nebraska watch site and they welcomed us with open arms! We cheered, laughed, SUH'd, and chanted "Go Big Reeeeed" all night. Being so far from home, it was so nice to find a place to celebrate with other Husker fans. They even called a cab for us to get back to our hotel! Happy New Year to all! Go Big Red!!

  7. Congratulations! We're all proud of everything you've accomplished individually and for the team. You are an inspiration to all and have raised the bar for football in Nebraska. It has been a true pleasure to watch you play football. We will be sad to lose you- but wish you all the best in the future. You have our admiration and respect. You did the team and state of Nebraska proud. We are extremely thankful! Thank you for pouring your heart and soul into your job!

  8. No no no.. There isn't anything wrong with crying a little bit in this scenario. I just want to reiterate what Tim Tebow actually did

He cried sitting on the sideline while his offensive lineman stroked the back of his head tenderly.

He cried when he went out onto the field and shook hands with the Alabama players and coaches.

He was still crying by the time they interviewed him and didn't have the sense to compose himself first, or decline to comment until later.

My guess is he cried in the locker room, cried when he got back to the hotel, cried all through dinner, cried himself to sleep and is probably still crying today..

Nothing wrong with crying and showing emoiton in this scenario, I just kind of think he should pull his skirt down a little bit because his slip was showing.. He went a little overboard.

I always told my boys it was OK to cry......IF it came from their hearts.

Although I loved seeing him cry, I think he overdid it just a little?

  9. I'm in Omaha to watch the game! Brought Mom hope after her post-op hip surgery. Somehow I feel closer to the Big Red from here! We are definitely "N" ! Suh is going to have McCoy's ass tonight!

    Go Big Red!
