I think a tailgate should be in order.

There's no "should" about it. It WILL happen. And there WILL be cookies.

If knapplc, brings cinnamon rolls, I'll be camping out Cameron Indoor-style.

Have I brought those before? I'll bring some again. Yeah, we'll do a tailgate.

    Those were some good rolls.

The reason for the departure of the 42-year-old Langsdorf is unclear, especially since he's returning to essentially the same job he left a year ago, just at a different place.

My guess is he doesnt like working for that meany Tom Coughlin. We will likely pay him more than what he is making now and it will be a lower stress environment than NY. Easy decision. I just hope he isnt here to collect a pay check.

Well.....if next season goes like this season did for NY....they will have no choice but to clean the coaching house. He is going to be in a more stable position at NU, that's for sure.

  3. I like Nate Gerry but he is often overmatched in the open field against speed players. Would it be better for him to play closer to the LOS? I was at the Holiday Bowl and the fans around me were expressing the same sentiment that long term Gerry does not have the speed/quickness necessary at safety plus he takes a ton of bad angles. I'll be interested to watch Gerry's development. Started off season well but seemed to regress down the stretch...perhaps long season wore him down? Or are we in for a position change here?

He had, arguably, a top 5 safety season in the country. With no LB help, he's bound to be juked out of his socks a number of times. This guy was (again arguably) the best defensive player every game for NU. Go ahead and crush me, but he outshined Gregory in nearly every single game they both played.

  4. I didn't read all the responses, just Landlord's opening post. Well said. Hardly anyone will remember, but I posted a while back a thread called '8 quarters' - which was to say there were only 8 quarters left to watch Ameer and Bell. All I got in response was a bunch of good riddance KB type responses. I started backing away from the steaming pile after that. Disappointed in more than a few around here.

EDIT: Foot in mouth on the 8 quarters responses.....they were much more positive than I thought. The general negativity has clouded my mind. Apologies.

While listening to Mike Riley's press conference this guy has sold his ideas on me! I love the fact that he is going to hold his coaches accountable in regards to how they coach our student athletes. I love how he is embracing the tradition at Nebraska and the core values that our university stands for. Now I see how every coach in the country likes this guy. I also love the fact how he says that he and his staff needs to hit the recruiting trail fast! Welcome to Nebraska Coach Riley, you have gained a HUGE fan in me! GO BIG RED!!!

Did he mention how he was going to distribute Blackshirts? :funnyhahah

I don't care how they get distributed...but the next guy to come in here and undersell what is arguably the greatest marketing tool NU has........well - he just can't do that. It's part of the brand and shouldn't be minimized at all..........

It matters, both from a financial standpoint and a recruiting standpoint. It should be a prominent part of the whole deal...........

The hiring story is not over yet. It is possible that, although he has not made lateral moves before now, Scott Frost may agree to come and be OC/Asst. Head Coach under a 61 year old who is signing his last big paycheck before retirement. That gives time to evaluate SF rather than just handing him the reigns, and even SF may see that as a win-win. Word is that Riley is bringing his DC, but no word on OC yet.

The word his DC is horrible. So that's terrible news.

Well the year we lost to UCLA 36-30 and Wisc 70-31...he did beat both, 27-20 and 10-7. He held that Wiscy team to 7. That's roughly 63 points better than NU.

It's a 'splash' hire for everyone, it seems, except those of us here in NE. If we are preparing for a HUSKER SATURDAY GAME this time next year....Shawn will be a genius. I like our odds to be honest. Dig in a little (I had to dig a lot, I knew nothing about the dude) - and the sun starts shining.

    • Turned down USC twice
    • Turned down Bama (where he played for Bear!)
    • The # of dudes he puts in the NFL
    • QB development
    • Ability to manage communication properly to all parties
    • WELL RESPECTED EVERYWHERE
    • An amazing recruiter
    • Agrees with the Nebraska Nice way
    • Will likely have a great staff due to the respect in circles
    • Will likely embrace and promote our great traditions, not the least of which will be the Blackshirts (which I think is one of NUs biggest marketing tools and needs to be leveraged)
    • More cool stuff I've read about him too...........tired of typing from phone....

Great post!!! All those freaking out simply don't understand the bigger picture, Mike Riley has proven he can do a lot with a little, especially when having to compete with Nike U, which would be hard for ANYONE!!! Now imagine what he may be able to accomplish here with the unlimited resources Nebraska has. I may be in the minority (at least among the fan base), but I think the future is brighter than many Husker fans realize; time will tell.

Yea, I feel like I'm in the minority too - but it's not a bad hire at all.

    Here's a great video!

  9. national media, local media and 80% of the fan base pushing for Bo's removal with a long list of varying reasons. still fans that are convinced you can't fire a 9 win coach because no one comes to a school that fires a 9 win coach. just. don't. get. it.

This crowd is either all but gone and switched sides - OR - has agreed that there's no point in arguing any longer. I'm in the former. It's gone pretty quiet with that argument.

It's really, REALLY tough to argue that making a change at HC isn't the best decision to make at this point.

To think that anyone in charge now would cowtow to the wishes of a retired man, regardless of who is in the wake of real money disappearing is clinging to bygone age.

So Osborne is a legend when you want him to be and something else if he's potentially a roadblock to your ire.
He's a legend. He also is retired. He also will have no say in whether Bo is retained or not.

Polo, I agree with you on moving on. However, this is just not true. He won't have direct influence, but the BOR will ask for his input and will respect it. So will Eichorst. A major decision with the direction of the football program at stake will go through Tom. He won't be the final decision maker, but he will hold heavy influence. Especially on Howard Hawks and the other boosters.

I agree with this and it wouldn't be very smart to not at least consult the man.

I do hope, however, that no one makes him take the stage and provide public input or quotes or whatever. For his sake: let the man enjoy his retirement and let NU turn the page by way of force so he can enjoy some of his retirement.

This is sad, but if he's put on the spotlight, I can just hear someone like Lee asking: So, Tom, what do you think in hindsight about choosing Bo as BCs replacement? SMH. How do you even answer that without lashing out? Tom would be cordial about it...but still. Don't even put him in that position.

  11.

SE can have all the stances he wants, when he has some major boosters pissed off standing at his desk, he'll do what he's told. Until then whether he stays or goes is only speculation, my guess? He's gone..........

I think BRI is on target with this... the bit about "he'll do as he is told" couldn't be stated better. For a LONG time I really believed the fans had a say in these matters... I was dead wrong. It is big money at the controls. Love it or hate it, its a fact that a panel of money will determine Bo's future at NU. College sports are a business, Bo is bad for business at NU. I hate saying that because I truly believed until Saturday despite the warnings along the way: the A&M meltdown on Martinez, the hat assault on a ref, BoGate, and too many tirades on national TV to count... just to name a few. I'm officially on board with the Bo must go camp, sorry I ever doubted you guys.

This is true! But the big money agenda is very much driven by the general outcry from the fans.......I think we (fans) share the same agenda with them (boosters). Maybe not exact, but we are close enough.
