  1. You 10 (for now) guys are nuts for thinking Burkhead will out-rush Ball. Our RB that has been hurt all year and will likely split time between 3 other guys vs. an all-time rusher in an offense that really has no other choices, playing against a beat-up/depleated D-line? But then again, I'm just another crazy guy saying crazy things on a message board.

I think Ball will out-rush Burkhead. I also think Burkhead will get yards in punt return, receiving, and out of the wildcat (both passing and rushing). Ball will end up with more rushing yards, but Burkhead will end up with more total yards.

  2. If anyone is hitting up O st, there is a fairly new taco place called Fuzzy's on the corner of O & Centennial Mall you might want to check out. Its a national chain, but they have good tacos & have $2 for an 18 oz Shiner Bock through the end of the month. It might not be as packed since its newer & on the eastern end of the O st bar scene.

  3. I was told Okafor chose Nebraska in part due to wanting to wanting to be a part of our Biology program since he had a 4.0 in high school and is apparently a great student. As a guy with a bio degree, I had classes with him too. But he never was able to contribute on the football field...I question whether he is actually leaving since it wouldn't make sense at this point with what, 1 year of eligibility left (?) to go play at a lesser school, especially when you're not going to have a future in football, and you're so close to just getting your degree

I thought I read that he's graduating this spring. Probably figures there's no point

He is going to UNMC. It wouldn't make sense for him to put off going to med school since he hasn't been a contributor.

  4. tri, I probably wouldn't be too judgmental of someone that you don't know. Having gone to HS with her, she really isn't that kind of person. Good people make mistakes also.

As Fonzi on Happy Days said to his nephew: "You didn't make a mistake! 2+2=3 is a mistake! What you did is wrong!"

Not judging the person, judging the actions, and they were wrong. No one is perfect and we can support the person without overlooking on the misdeed.

I am a little bent out of shape when Daddy said if she was a sorority girl, it wouldn't be a big deal. People being hurt is a BIG DEAL anytime and anyplace. Broken legs don't always mend 100%, and even if they do that's a chunk of time out of somebody's life when they can't do what they want to do or need to do. I'm thinking it would be a big deal to Daddy Cook if two of his players were on that motorcycle, or two of his family members.

My lord, John Cook's sorority quote is being taken so far out of context it is ridiculous. He didn't mean to downplay the injuries or that sorority girls get away with murder, he meant that if his daughter had been a normal college girl in a sorority this story wouldn't have been headline news.

How so many people are grossly misinterpreting his quote is beyond me.

John Cook met with some members of the Panhellenic Council (a governing body for the majority of UNL's sororities), and apologized. As a member of a sorority, I really wasn't offended, because I was able to deduce what he meant instead of what he said.

  5. I'm confused, how does what compare to the Big XII...this thread is perplexing

i think i explained it fairly well. everything, all the possible things, are better.

venues, teams, btn, and so on and so forth.

Ohhhh we're talking about the Big Ten, I get it. Well from the perspective of a fan of the Big Ten prior to expansion I think you guys have definitely proven to be worth the move. Adding NU enriched the conference substantially...the races for the championship are incomparably better and now we have a CG, they are more than capable of being competitive in the league and as a program with national appeal now we're up to four marque teams. I think that may be more than any other conference, (SEC may beg to differ but other than Bama I'm not sure any of those teams is head and shoulders a national fan base team...maybe LSU...maybe, all the others are strong in their states and big in the region but I've never seen a Vol fan in Minneapolis or an Auburn fan in Topeka)

That said AAU membership would be nice and we'll see how they fair in B-Ball. Have a feeling they're going to tear up baseball though.

we are still embarrassed about the AAU debacle, and i imagine we will always be embarrassed by nebrasketball, but maybe this is our year.

AAU membership could happen again if pride doesn't get in the way and even if it doesn't things will pan out alright. I'm thinking in 10 or 20 years UNL will improve its academics greatly from cooperating with its conference brethren in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, so even if its not in the AAU it'll be at the level. That's the awesome thing about the Big Ten, we're much more than just athletics.

I'm not sure about Basketball yet though..we'll see how they translate to the conference.

Out of curiosity you do realize the 2 swing votes that would have kept Nebraska in the AAU, If memory serves on the totals, were no votes from Wisconsin and another big ten school right? I cant remember who but I want to say Michigan?

You aren't allowed to give Nebraska crap on that front if your school voted them out. Screw the AAU. It's definitely a pride thing now. It means absolutely nothing.

As an undergrad at UNL who does research & sees the type of research going on, it just blows my mind that the AAU kicked us out. Screw the AAU if they think agricultural research isn't important.

  6. Mods should just delete this f'ing thread, this is the reason every other fan base says we always have to have an excuse why we lost, well let me tell you this, we lost because of ourselves and wisconsin was a better team, were there a lot of missed calls? well sure, and id say more were not in favor of us, but wisconsin is flat out a better team right now, get your head out of the 90's people, we sucked dick today, and now we can suffer the consequences, not by bringing up sh#t about the refs, but bringing up sh#t about wtf the players were doing playing lackluster football, and mediocre coaching, they are to blame, not refs for gods sake

We didn't lose because of officiating. That doesn't mean the officiating didn't suck.

Yeah, we didn't tackle, we played like sh#t. That doesn't mean the officials didn't miss a lot of calls. Refs miss calls all the time. That doesn't mean we should let them off the hook for obvious calls. I thought the officials missed a huge call in the Baylor-K State game (where the Baylor wide reciever threw a lateral, not a pass). Kansas State still won. The officials still got that call wrong.

  7. It might partially be the whiskey but I definitely saw the RB punch Fisher on their first touchdown... Not okay. And we sucked it up but the officiating didn't help at all.

Well, it looked a lot more like a pretty hard stiff arm (he didn't have a closed fist) and he did it b/c he was five yards deep in the end zone and the play had been whistled dead for a while and the defender was still trying to tackle him for some reason. There may have been a few bad calls, but that is not the reason Nebraska lost.

You guys will have a big victory next week, my alma mater is seriously terrible right now. You all will feel much better next Saturday night.

Nope. We definitely didn't lose because of the officiating. We beat ourselves. Its still annoying, but that's how it goes sometimes I guess. You may be right about the stiff arm. I wasn't watching that closely because the play was over. I caught it out of the corner of my eye and was shocked. I will have to see if I can find a video clip of it to see what really went down...

An open fist does not make it a stiff arm.

Not sure if you are being serious...

Hands to the face? Still a penalty. Defender might have kept going after the whistle, but how many times was the the whistle blown & the Wisconsin defenders still took Martinez to the ground? The officials should have thrown a flag on Fisher if thats the case.

Even with a stiff arm, you can't hit them in the facemask. I hope next weekend goes better. I plan on being just as drunk, so I apologize in advance for cussing at your team. I know they won't deserve it.

  10. Holding occurs on every play, but there were some obvious ones on the edge that were missed, of course Barney teaches NU's boys to put defenders in headlocks(saw that at least three times uncalled tonight).

But the point has been made. Poor officiating=poor excuse.

    I personally blame Joe Ganz

Sorry, I have already reached my quota of +1s for the day. I will hit you up tomorrow.

  11. The officiating was fine, they missed calls on both sides of the ball big F'n deal we lost it had nothing to do with the damn officiating

I never said we lost because of the officiating. I believe I said I thought we would have lost even if the officiating had been perfect. I just said I thought that it sucked.
