  1. You're telling me that the shale oil boom has resulted in large employment? You don't say. That's why it's called a boom. Okay, so several things...

The economy isn't a zero-sum game, but many times it operates somewhat under those principles. What I'm getting at is that the average consumer is going to have a lot more money available that would have been previously spent on petroleum products, namely gasoline. The estimates I've read range from $500-$1200 per household. Guess what? That money doesn't disappear into the ether. It gets spent. People use it to buy stuff, more stuff, other than gasoline. Buying goods and services. That spending literally is the economy. More spending = a big economic boost. And guess what results from greater demand for goods and services? Jobs. Any job loss to energy companies is likely to be offset by jobs elsewhere.

You're worried about junk bonds? Literally bonds that most investors won't touch, especially for retirement purposes? You're saying this is bad for the little guy and fine for the wealthy, but then suddenly it's 'won't someone think of the banks and hedge fund managers speculating on junk bonds?' Man, this is priceless.

Nobody is arguing that there won't be drawbacks in some areas. But the overall impact will be almost undoubtedly good for a nation that is a huge net importer of oil.

  2. Low oil prices are basically great for 95% of America. No, I'm not going to shed any tears for any energy companies that struggle - especially while the Exxon-Mobils of the world were making record profits as gas hit $4 a gallon.

We have to get our oil from somewhere. If OPEC wants to hand it to us for cheap, it means they're desperate. I have no problem eating up all of their cheap oil right now - I'd much rather pay these corrupt bastards low prices than high ones. Added bonus; if our drilling gets cut back, we keep more of our domestic reserves for the long-term. Yes I realize that drillers in North Dakota will be laid off - there's always a trade-off. Again, if a low oil situation results in what is estimated to be an extra $550 in the pocket of your average American household this year which is huge, then I am not going to be too upset about a few thousand people being laid off, especially when they're up there making $95K/yr already for manual labor.

Not sure why everyone seems to think Meyer is the best coach in the country?

My uncle joe with a bum leg could coach all that talent to 10+ wins.

    lol what is this nonsense

Just saying. Guys good, sure, but best in the country?

    Gary Patterson says hello!

The best coaches in the country don't need 5 star talent across the board to be "the best coach in the country"!

Patterson is good no doubt but Urban is a little better.

Patterson is 132-45 in his career. All at TCU

Meyer is 141-26 in his career. Split between Utah, Florida and tOSU.

Patterson started at TCU in 2000 and Meyer started at Utah in 2001.

But the talent level is the difference!

Meyer started Utah in 2003 and left in 2004. The WAC. And the Utes have largely held onto their success since.

Basically, record is not the whole story.

Utah was in the Mountain West then. Yes, it's not a Power 5 conference but going undefeated for a full year is nothing to down play.

I don't know how people can say Meyer isn't a good coach. Part of being a college coach is bringing in the talent, and he has done that. With that talent he has won 2 NC's and is in a 3rd NC game tomorrow. His record speaks for itself.

You ever wonder why he left Florida? Didn't the story sound a bit odd when you heard it? Scoop. The other SEC coaches had the goods on him and gave him an ultimatum - get out of the conference or we turn you in. Ya, he brings in talent. He also beat Bama. I wouldn't be surprised to see the old school boys from the south break their gentlemen's agreement. Stay tuned.

That is one of the most cynical viewpoints of anything I have ever read on the subject. You may very well have written that in total sarcasm, but if not, I just don't understand the cynicism. Is it not possible that he actually left for exactly what he said? Perhaps, he actually felt he had complete imbalance in his life to a point that he was unhealthy and felt it necessary to step away, but he realized he had to come back to his passion after finding a way to balance it out so it didn't cause health issues? I have never understood the principle of going to the most cynical viewpoint first. Not only is the viewpoint expressed in the quoted text incredibly cynic, but conspiracy theorist, as well.

Some people do things for reasons you wouldn't. It happens in every single aspect of life; because they choose a certain path does not mean they have something to hide. Take it for what it's worth, but I do not understand the constant cynic.

And the winner for the most instances of using the word "cynic" in a post goes to... *carefully opens large envelope* .....BOJ! *award music plays*

  4. So this is a notch for the "Beck was actually decent but Bo wouldn't let him run what he wanted to run" side?

We saw that Beck put up 42 points and a bunch of yards against a talented USC team by running his spread, and that sort of thing is exactly what Ohio State runs (and what we SHOULD run imo, but that ship has sailed) so....

Congrats to Beck and good luck at the new gig.

  5. I just hope Eichorst can provide this staff with every single resource that they ask for, and then go out of his way to provide them with resources that they DIDN'T ask for. This is the only way we can succeed - the whole department has to be on board. The only way to overcome the negative inertia, the recruiting disadvantages, the perception disadvantages, etc is to overwhelm those disadvantages by throwing our best shots at them. Recognizing the deficiencies that come with being a major college program located in Lincoln, Nebraska in the year 2014 - and not denying them or putting our heads in the sand - but confronting those challenges head-on.

You hired these guys, they are buying in 100%, and really are excited and want to be there. Now, Shawn Eichorst, SUPPORT THEM. With everything you've got and more.

  6. I actually DO tend to think that had we stayed in the Big 12, Bo's defenses would have been a lot better. Bo's defensive style was perfectly suited to the style of spread-out offense the Big 12 loves.

But maybe that's just tschu drinking on a Friday night, still upset about how much of a dogshit move it was to move to the Big Ten. :(

Nah, Bo would have had better defensive success in the Big 12, I'm sure of it.

  7. What DOES happen if they let him back, and does something - anything - again?

My line of thinking here is, then why string this young man out for a year? You either boot him for good, or you give him parameters by which to work his way back and then let him back on after he has shown that he can learn and grow. You don't waste a year of a 20-yr old's life with false hope if you already think that he's not worth the trouble.

I fully agree that what he did was really, really wrong, but this was not the way to handle the situation. Now he has to figure out how to move on after he spent a year just trying to make amends for a mistake, when he could have already moved on. And I really hope nobody thinks I'm minimizing his crime or anything; I just think that the "justice" should be clear and swift and timely, especially when talking about someone in the position of a 20-yr-old student athlete who doesn't have a full year of his life to just burn waiting on a situation strung out by false hope.

If they knew they couldn't bring him back, then tell him, and let both sides move on.

  8. Gotcha. Straight yardage then most likely. Maybe I'll look into it a bit more tomorrow

But I do tend to agree with you that it seems that he did a fairly good job with not much at OSU...not that this guarantees success here, but it's sure a reason to hope

  9. That was a mostly tongue-in-cheek comment, but it probably is pretty true. Unless he shoved it in her face or forced himself on her or something, I guess I don't see it as such a big deal like some others do.

It made her uncomfortable. Enough to call the police. That's ALL that matters. Then he did it again.
