  1. I've been a member of SEC Rant for a while. It is in no way a place to have intelligent discussion, even in the new sub forums they've created for each team. If my memory serves me correctly when they first created those subforums you had to be a "South Carolina" listed as your fan team to be able to see/post in their subforum. They've opened it up now to viewing but I'm still not sure that you can post on a team's forum unless you affiliate.

SECRant and Tigerdroppings' More Sports Board are great for finding breaking news or interesting topics because they have a large and very "plugged in" membership, I just wouldn't go there expecting to have some respectful mature exchange. The posters are definitely football savy but can be pretty sophomoric, sarcastic and disrespectful. It's part of the fun.

    Typical SEC Rant thread:

    Post 1: "Subject X"

    Post 2: "Germans"

    Post 3: "Kill yourself OP"

    Post 4: random GIF

Post 5: [actual agreement with OP]

Post 6. [insert SEC Team] staaaaaaaacked [nation/rival/other conference team] fffff*************d

    Post 7: random NSFW picture

...this continues for a while and then just kind of gets buried.

    this is pretty accurate FWIW

  2. Pelini wasn't our coach in either of those seasons....top 25 out of 120+ FBS HC is definitely above average. If you want to argue him being elite he is 1 of only 5 coaches to have won a minimum of 9 games in their first 5 seasons as HC. That would be an elite stat if you wanted to get picky. Just trying to figure out what exactly you are talking about.....feel free to get YOUR facts together, I got mine. Pelini was your DC after those seasons, you knew that right? Lol coached NU then went to be your DC then came back as our HC?

Really looking forward to your response

woah, ok, I was way out there.. forgive my blondness. I had the years all messed up, kind of makes everything else I say look dumb! :dumdum I should have gotten MY facts straight.

But I'll say it anyway, as for the top 25, I would call top 25 very good, but not elite. I believe Bo has to get better to be elite, although he is failrly new at the HC game... even newer than I once thought! :hmmph Now even top ten regularly wouldn't be good for many, because look at LSU and Georgia fanbases who want their coach fired when they don't win the NC. I like Bo, don't get me wrong, I just don't expect him to be dicussed as elite in the long run and I'd really like to see Nebraska back in the national championship hunt, and prove my doubt wrong. May not be hard to do judging my previous statements of "fact".

PS - now I see why I am labeled "Scout Team" :thumbs

This is only Bo's 5th year. Came right after he helped win your tigers there NC. No worries, hope you can see why I was completely confused at first

yes I can! thanks for going easy on me

  4. few people on the planet could ever come in and follow Tom Osbourne. It would be like... well... Conan trying to do The Tonight show behind Leno and Carson

I know Pelini is not the only one to follow Osbourne, but he is the most successful.

I don't follow this logic. I believe it was posted sometime last week where Solich had a better winning percentage than Bo does. What is your definition of success? We won the Big 12 in 99'. We played for a NC in 01'.

Exactly. We already fired a guy that may have been doing a better job...

The logic I use is that Solich took over the reins from TO who had built a dynasty and just won the NC. Players would come to Nebraska and ride the pine with the hopes of playing a year, over playing for 3 at another school. Solich won games with these players, at first, but it became clear he wasn't recruiting well enough to maintain the level to which Husker fans were accustomed. I'm sure the Athletic Department is looking at more than record (which is what fans look at) when making the decision to let Solich go. He lost like 7 games in 02 I think. Pelini came in and tried to get it back together. He had some really bad seasons but has brought them back up compared to what he inherited. Do I think he is the guy who can hold Nebraska at a level of the national elite? No. He's not that kind of coach. Solich was a long time Husker who clearly loved the university, and had a good resume, but just let the team decline too far under his management, so I don't think he was more successful than Pelini. Like I said, Pelini, although among the top 25 coaches in the country, will never live up to what TO accomplished. That's what I mean when I say that once you've tasted being the best in the world, second just don't taste so good. LSU fans are the worst at this. Every year when Miles fails to get them in the NCG, there is a certain number of them who call for him to be fired. Fans' memories are clouded. It is impossible to stay on top year after year. Even TO lost big games now and then. Saban is the closest thing to TO college football has had, and it will be a while before anyone sees another one. I wonder what team will have him.

When did Pelini have really bad seasons? He isn't good enough to get us to elite status but then you say he is a top 25 coach??? Is anyone else lost or is it just me?

2004-2005 record 5-6 no bowl game

2007-2008 record 5-7 no bowl game

It may be just you that is lost, but you are definitely lost.

You consider top 25 elite??? yeah you're lost

Are you looking at any facts, or just like to argue?

  5. I will jump in this one as I am a Husker fan second. My wife's family are all Huskers, from Omaha.

I don't think it is unrealistic to expect, with the Big Red tradition and history:

    • Compete for the conference championship every year. By that I mean if not play in the conference championship game, be the team to beat in getting there.
    • Field at least one All American at some level annually
    • Be a top 25 team every year
    • Go to a solid bowl game every year
    • Have a recruiting class to get excited about every year
    • Win the games that should be won, and some that shouldn't
    • Be able every year to truly say, "If we play to our ability, we can beat anybody."
    • Just be able to get excited about every game that is coming up, that's what it's all about anyway.

  7. Abdullah is very good at moving laterally in the tackle box and finding lanes. The problem defenses have with him is not strength, but quickness, intelligence, and speed. He sees the field well, and is effective as the alternative to Burkhead. Martinez can be dangerous if he can stay focused all game. If he gets too rattled, the game could get away from him.

  8. David and Te'o are different kinds of players, but I would take David over Te'o in a heartbeat. David was EVERYWHERE and IMO a better one-on-one play maker. Te'o seems to me to benefit from being involved in lots of plays, but it doesn't seem to me he makes the kinds of plays in space like David always made. It is a media popularity contest for the Heisman, no doubt.

  9. Huskers, you made it to the Big10 Championship like I predicted in my preseason thread, congratulations! Then you got #clemsoned and I didn't see that coming. Now you're going back to Orlando for a good bowl game. Here's my perspective on your upcoming matchup with UGA.

UGA is a balanced offense, but the slightly favor the run with 2 RB's who have break away speed. They rank 42nd in rushing offense.

Murray throws for a lot of yards, but I don't know where his head is at after the SECCG meltdown when he ran off the field w/o shaking hands. They rank 33rd in passing offense.

Their defense has NFL potential everywhere, but how many of those guys are already thinking about the combine and not this game? UGA's 3-4 system is easier to run on than a 4-3 system. They rank 78th in rushing defense and 8th in passing defense.

Where UGA is significantly better than y'all is in turnover margin, they are 20th and y'all are 105th. Other than that, both teams are relatively close in a lot of categories.

Both teams have a lot of upper-classmen playing in this game, but quite frankly UGA has more players projected at higher picks in the NFL draft. This could play into UN's favor though, b/c they have guys still trying to advance their draft potential.

As evenly matched as these teams are statistically, I think that whoever wins the turnover battle and avg's more yards per carry will win the game. I think both teams are going to want to run the ball a lot, knowing that the other team's rushing defense ranked below avg.

An XFactor that UN has for this game is that you are ranked, which seems to be kryptonite for UGA and Murray. They've only beaten 1 ranked team in 3 years.

I think 34-27 in favor of UGA is a fair prediction, unless the kryptonite takes hold and their players are looking towards the combine.

Good assessment. I agree. I do, however, believe that there is more of a possibility the Huskers win than most may think. UGA just came up short in their Super Bowl, while Nebraska failed to offer resistence to Wisconsin, who they and 4 other teams had already beaten. UGA played a good game overall against the soon-to-be national champs, and have settled for the cap one bowl. Nebraska is happy to have another chance to end it right, and like you already said, up the stock of those wanting to enter the draft. I'm gonna go out on a limb sparsely populated and call 31-27 Huskers who will hold UGA off from scoring late.

  10. Well I have had frustration with him all year, he makes incredible plays that help his team, then can make incredible mistakes that hurt them, mainly becase he tries to make something out of nothing too much. I don't think they are in this bowl without him. If he improves this off-season as much as he did last one, Big Red will play Ohio State for the B1GC at worst. I just am not convinced Peliini is the kind of coach that will have them competing for a NC often enough. Poor guy. however, is in the shadow of Osbourne and will never live up to that standard. LSU fans are similar in that they call for Miles' head and are hard on the players when they don't go undefeated and win it all every year. It's hard to not be on top once you've tasted it.

  11. UGA fan here and I just wanted to let you guys know that we are very anxious and excited to play you guys!! :cheers

You should since our fans jumped shiped.

Georgia is fast and huge but nebraska might give you some trouble...

I believe the Huskers will give the dawgs trouble. GA. Southern. did for a half with an option QB. Martinez can throw and is a true dual threat if he keeps his head together and trusts his team mates. He has to stop trying to do it alone.

  12. Dawgs, Huskers, I'm torn!

I'm an SEC fan and am familiar with these Dawgs from the other board, but my wife is from Omaha and her family are all Husker fans!

I want both teams to do well and this to be a great nail-biter of a game.

This thread has some pretty entertaining smack talk. It started slow but y'all got it goin finally. good job! :thumbs

    and GEAUX TIGERS!

ETA: Let's hear some good coonass comments now, c'mon y'all can do it. For you Husker fans, "y'all" is like "you guys".

I typed slow for the Counciltuckians

  13. the thing I see with Bo, I remember when he was at LSU, he is going to play his game, and stick to it, and if it don't work, he blames it on failure of the players to execute. that he didn't even seem to try and shut down the run game today is a travesty. maybe he doesn't want to step on his brother's toes, but sooner or later you have to decide, "a team like Northwestern is not going to run the ball down my throat.

  14. yeah, I saw that too....thought he was going to get a flag

He did get flagged for unnecessary roughness. Should have been ejected, but maybe that's just me.

He was intentionally trying to hurt Kinnie. Took a few swings and Kinnie didn't even do anything

he was doing this off and on. kid had a real nasty attitude and should have been ejected... kudos for Kinnie for keeping his cool

  15. We learned that this team is actually capable of making it 4 quarters without turning it into a goddamned slap stick comedy act. I feel like a kid again!

learned that the team was either not prepared for Wisconsin, or the game plan was wrong, but now, I believe the Huskers can beat anybody.... as long as Martinez don't throw it 20 times!

    GBR!!
