  1. I'm confused about the direction of this thread...so far I can get only two things....

    1. The Big Ten sucks in bowls (ok yea...last season)

    2. NU lost today (yea, we know...)

Not sure what we discuss so....I like turtles....

I wish I would have run into you in Madison, badgerfan. You seem pretty friggin cool.

As far as everything else goes, this board is usually pretty fair and balanced. May as well stick around!

  2. People shouldn't be communicating with players on Twitter, period. It's creepy and could open-up compliance issues. If you see a player's tweet relayed via a media member, fine, but stay the hell away from those guys directly.

What if you're actually friends them?

  3. It's year 4 in the Pelini era and we have terrible coaching including obvious recruiting flaws, game management ( timeouts used up by defense, end of Northwestern game???) Not getting Backups in in garbage time, no depth or lack of playing certain people due to vendettas, buddy hires gone wrong (also known as Cosgrovean Cottonism) and playing like crap over the last 2 years against arguably the easiest schedules in YEARS. When Wisconsin and MSU are the biggest games of the year you know you have a NC schedule on your hands. We tried as hard as we could to let a dysfunctional PSU beat us, a decent team would have hung a half a hundred on them last week and emptied the bench after the turmoil they went through. We canned Callahan after 4 years, our 3 million dollar man better step up to the plate SOON. Remember that Callahan was playing KU,Missou, Leached TT's teams that were battling for BCS bowls not to mention strong Texas/Sooners/USC teams. At least we saw talent being recruited

Nice first post. If you're here to troll, don't get comfortable. You won't be here long.

Wait a second, you repeated half my post almost word for word than cut it out for this response and Im trolling? I actually thought I treated Pelini with kid gloves considering I left out his sideline antics, media presence, and the way he's handled our offense the last 3 years

Nah, you said we have horrible coaching and we're coming off of consecutive conference championship game appearances and we are in the running to make it three straight. It was not an intelligent (and more importantly, accurate) statement.

EDIT: And when you are referring to his media presence, are you intentionally ignoring the accolades Pelini has received for his post-game interviews following the Penn State game regarding the delicate (and infuriating) situation in State College? Only someone who doesn't want to see it could state that Pelini hasn't improved markedly in this area this year.

Accolades for saying the game shouldn't have happened and taking away even more from PSU Collegiate Athletes who expeirienced the most horrendous week one can imagine? A trained monkey knows the victims of the PSU debacle were top priority but to strip away the PSU players chance to live out their dreams of going un-beaten in the B1G seems ridiculous to me.

Im referring to the way he handles the media and the officiating crews not to mention his attitude towards the fans responsible for his 3 million dollars he receives. His consistant blaming of the players for the Northwestern type losses is ridiculous, what I am seeing on the field is a product of coaching/recruiting.

He made it too consecutive conference games in a Big XII North who replaced most of their head coaches, who couldnt with the athletes he had. What other Big XII North team could possibly make it? So being in the running for a third on the hopes and prayers of MSU is respectable after that home game disaster that was Northwestern? Lets see how the next 2 games go before we get too excited about relying on MSU to send us in the back door of a "down" Conference Championship. You really think if the PSU players had not experienced the worst possible scenerio possible last week, lost their head coach and all the emotion they endured we would still be in the hunt?

    :troll:

  4. Moral of the story; Don't make friends with people that are not Husker fans and sometimes even that won't help. Growing up, occasionally friends or acquaintances would schedule a wedding on a Saturday game day. And these were people that lived in Nebraska...WTH? I can think of numerous times a large number of the people in the church would have an earbud hooked up to their radio. More than once you could hear a collective sigh, gasp, or muffled "yeah" in the crowd when something big happened in the game. I even recall taking turns going into a pastors study to watch bits and pieces of a televised game,.... during the ceremony. I have seen groomsmen and ushers with their radio tuned in as well.

Seriously though, if you have to ask the question, you should probably DVR or record the game and go to the funeral. This is one of those dilemnas that you need to struggle with internally but do the right thing outwardly. But, you have every right in the world to drop the first person that begins to give away how the game is going before you begin your delayed "live" viewing. Good luck.

When somebody passes away, a football game isn't exactly on the minds of the family members.

I know in my family we wouldn't schedule a funeral at the same time as a game out of respect for the deceased. No one would want their funeral to force people to miss a game.

But in such a case, go to the funeral. You only get one chance to pay your final respects.

  5. It was the game that we don't talk about. On the road against, first and foremost, Greg Burks. I've been saying it since the schedule came out that if we're gonna get screwed by he refs it would be this game. I have faith in my Huskers, but it's thoughts like this that make me worried. Someone please tell me I'm crazy.

  6. Someone explain to me why they hate Boise State?

I always thought there was a lot to admire in that program.

I hate that they never schedule more than 2 or 3 even decent opponents per season and still whine when they don't get a shot at a MNC. And I think we will find in the coming years that Boise isn't exactly squeaky clean in the recruiting area.

    My teams:

CFB: Nebraska and absolutely no one else with any consistency (ie- I cheer for who Iowa plays)

    NFL: The Niners

    MLB: the Cubbies

    NBA: NYK! Go Knicks!

    NHL: Minnesota Wild

    Soccer: Man U

CBB: Nebrasketball, but I pull for Duke in the tourney because of Coach K

  7. D Rob has 2,475 of Michigan's 3,927 yards of total offense, or greater than 80% of their offensive production thus far. I don't think dedicating your best player to stopping that is wasting him.

Those stats aren't >80%. Just saying.

However, containing D Rob must be of emphasis. Using David to do so makes sense.

You are correct! I threw the numbers into Excel and .88 popped out, and I didn't pay attention to the numbers. Turns out I used 3,475 instead of 2,475. So it's 60%, or a little more. Thanks for catching that. +1

    It's right around 63%. Jsayin'...

    It's 63.025%.

And I'm glad we have that all cleared up now.

Well according to Kevin from the Office it's, "Those are big numbers. I'm just gonna put down 'a lot'."

To clarify, I did not actually consult him.

  9. Can you not agree that taylor has improved drastically since the beginning of the season? Everyone can see it.

Well, it has been an interesting transformation. AH uses the "game changer" vs "game manager" description, which I think is apt.

For whatever reason, T-Mart's game changing explosive plays (on his feet) have been held relatively in check. He has still run effectively at times, but his number of 20+ yard runs has dipped. I think his "manager" role has also helped him avoid turnovers. I am not arguing against the change, but it does come at cost (lost big plays).

Against, MSU or PSU, the manager role was fine, because Bo's D matched up well. But against teams with mobile QBs (OSU, NW, WI), where our D allowed points, it put a lot of onus on T-Mart and offense to match point for point.

This Mich game is going to see points scored (at least by Mich). T-Mart is going to need to make some plays, whether via the air or on the ground to keep NU in the game.

    Thank you.

Don't know what I'd do without you putting on my "captian obvious" hat :) (sometimes I wonder why people have to explain things that are so plain to see - but thanks for having the patience that I clearly don't have)

While I understand the point that if we lose it may be because Taylor reverted back to his form in the UW game, but a loss doesn't neccesarily mean back to square 1 for him because when we lost to NW it was pretty obvious that Taylor played very well.

I think this game will shape up like OSU last year. We will get scored on. We simply have to score on them more. I would be tickled pink if we win 42-41 and I could easily see that happening.

  10. As far as college football goes:

    1) Nebraska

    2) Anybody who can help Nebraska by winning

I root for a couple NFL teams... I've been a Niners fan since I was 5 or 6, and I've been following the Jaguars since their inception.

This. I would add 3) Whoever Iowa is playing.

As for NFL, I've been a Niners fan for all of my life (however short it has been thus far) and I wasn't alive for much of the success besides the 98 season. So I'm really enjoying this season *knock on wood*

  11. Stai was the speaker. He was a wealth of information in my opinion. Kind of told it like it is. Very little coach speak. Here are a few quick bullet points of some of his discussions:

    1. As a Graduate manager he works a lot with the scout team in preparing the team to simulate our opponent's offense. Also, works with the line during the Summer. Does other stuff as well of course.

    2. Talked about "DAT" discipline, attitude and toughness. Seems like they are really preaching it to the team espically after the game last week. Stressed that they need to be very focused this week due the issues at Penn State. Penn State will come out and play hard with Joe Pa's firing and all. We need to match their intensity.

    3. He said both the coaches and players over looked Northwestern. It falls on the coaches to be prepared and they were not.

    4. Defense is really going at it hard this week. Bo very unhappy from last week's performance.

    5. Expect more player rotations this week using the younger guys. Not only at O-line, but other positions as well like RB and WR.

6.Mentioned that QB draws and screen plays maybe used more in the near future.

    7. Briefly praised right side of line ( M. Jones and Long) along with Caputo. He said Long will end up being a very good player as he is only a sophmore right now.

    8. Mentioned that ARod was sick last week, but that is not an excuse for his play.

    9. Mentioned that Yoshi is one of the toughest players on the team. Almost tore his pinky finger off in the Fresno State game.

    10. Ben Cotton also tough. Torn tricep and gimpy back, but playing through it.

    11. Overall team is pretty nicked up, but so is everyone else at this point in the season. Nature of the beast.

    12. Penn State overall might be the best D we will face. Mentioned that they are very fast.

So what kind of offensive scheme would you use against that type of defense? More misdirection? Zone read? More short pass play?

I say we go with power running. It doesn't matter how fast you are if you've got a 300 pound man between you and the ball.
