  1. We won't go undefeated next year, but what I saw today gives me hope for the future. A team that fought the entire game, and didn't fold when faced with adversity. Even if they had lost they didn't ever show any signs of quitting. Congrats to UCF on their perfect season.

  2. OK, The Sock been busy herdin' the little socks around and tryin' to stay on the good side of Mrs. Sock...

I may have misinterpretated a message on Tressel. Sounds like they was some disagreein' when it comes to who wants what. Tressel is still the odds on favorite in this horse race. One source calls him 75% N. The sock don't do math too good but them seem like descent odds. My peeps haven't heard Bielema's name anywhere. Sounds like the lawyers is involved right now trying to work out some bits n pieces with the NCAA.

Unfortunately, Bo isn't takin' these changes too good and will likely try to cause as much hurt to the Huskers as he can while he still can. The Sock is real sad to hear that and hopes that it turns out to be false. The Sock's also sad for the players. They lost they friend and mentor and they don't know what to think right now. Bein' kids like they is it's gotta be tough to take and they gonna say some stupid things (The Sock been there too) but hopefully it'll all settle down soon. Have patience and love for the kids is what The Sock thinks.

I think that's all for now.

Peace, Love and Huskers... Go Big Red!

I can understand Bo being upset, but hope he would take the high road, if not would there be any way to start taking away from that really nice 7.9 million dollar parting gift he's getting?

  3.

Had to do something. They're packing their entire D up to the line. Thankful for the long passes -- at least gave us a couple penalties. We can't run on that D with no threat of pass.

And Wiscy seems to be running the ball just fine against our Defense, it wouldn't matter to them if we were allowed to put 15 men on the line.

We have all 3 LBs between the tackles and Wisconsin adjusted.

Something that we can't seem to do on either side of the ball, let's hope for better in the second half.

  5. Beck needs to give the D time to rest. Sick of his panic mode when the other team gets a shred of momentum.

Will anyone else be glad to Gordon in the nfl??

Beck is an IDIOT, we get up 17-3 and he calls two pass plays and one run, then he starts his downward spiral into full blown panic mode, with no idea of what he is trying to accomplish out there on the field. And enough about not be able to run against a stacked defense, it seems like Wisconson is doing just fine running the ball.

  6. Nebraska goes undefeated winning the NC. The offense scores on the first play of every drive of the year, we don't punt once. The defense either forces a turn over or a three and out each time the oppsition has the ball, never allowing a first down all year. People still are upset because our special teams actually allow a few kick returns past the 20 yard line.

  7. After the beat down this week, I find myself not as excited about the rest of this season, atleast until we find out who we play in the bowl game. So I started looking forward to next season and decided to give a prediction for the Regular Season.

Date Opponent Site AP Rank W/L

    NU/Opp

    09/01 Southern Miss Lincoln W

    09/08 UCLA Pasadena W

09/15 Arkansas State Lincoln W Pretty easy non- conference

    09/22 ? W

09/29 #Wisconsin Lincoln W They lose Ball and Wilson and game is at home

10/06 #Ohio State Columbus L Can't beat mobile QB (especially if meyer is coach

    and in Columbus

    10/13 Bye?

10/20 #Northwestern Evanston W Get revenge from 2011 in close game

10/27 #Michigan Lincoln L Still can't beat mobile Qb Robinson

    11/03 #Michigan St. E. Lansing W They lose Cousins.

11/10 #Penn State Lincoln W New coaching staff. Home game.

    11/17 #Minnesota Lincoln W Closer than expected

    11/23 #Iowa Iowa City W Ferentz won't last long as a coach.

Big 10 Championship: (I bet Michigan goes) Not played.

Overall record before bowl game 9-2 with A BCS bowl (though we won't deserve it).

    Your thoughts?

Arkansas St will be closer then anyone thinks. The team will come out and play an uninspired game. They will be unmotivated just like when SDSU came here last year.

Northwestern will be a trap game. Even with the bye the week before. The team will over look them, looking forward to the Michigan game the next week.

Minnesota will be another close game because of the team will probably be sleep walking through that one also.

That is two home games and one road game that will be closer then thay should be, or outright losses. I hope I'm wrong but they would be games that seem to fit the pattern that Nebraska has fallen into the last couple of years.

    .

  8. Remember Bo warned at the start of the end of the Michigan state game that Northwestern had a good team . He emphasized it all week long and evidently our team is tired and beat up from our brutal schedule.

Our schedule isn't going to get any easier from here on out. No coach is ever going to come out and say that their next opponent isn't good. That being said while Northwestern has a good team, they are one we should have taken behind the woodshed and whipped.

  9. The coach doesnt play the game , the players do . I am for Bo and will continue to support him and his staff and especially these players. We got some shady calls , seemed like NW was holding our D line all day , and we are thin up front on Defense , because of injuries. I am not going to be a fairweather fan , and I will continue to support Coach Pelini and his staff. Go Big Red !

Dont forget the Tom Osborne special is on Big 10 in around 10 minutes ..

I support them also, but have to question why the team comes out so flat for teams we should beat the crap out of, this is Bo's job to motivate the team. There are to many times we just plain out look disinterested out there.

  10. - Line needs to quit pulling, and play a hat on a hat. No more of this pulling, fancy crap. Barney - enjoy your new job this offseason, whatever cushy office job they hook you up with.

    - Beck, LOL. No matter how much Northwestern kept selling out to the run on the early downs, and no matter how much Taylor was incredibly accurate today, Beck showed little to no faith in Taylor on early downs until the 4th quarter. When he FINALLY did, we moved the ball consistently. This was a HORRENDOUS Northwestern defense, and yet we struggled.

    - STOP WITH THE FREAKIN' OPTION. Our line cannot block for it. Our QB and RB both struggle with understanding spacing. All around, WE SUCK AT RUNNING THE OPTION. Even more, if Beck is determined to run it, STOP WITH THE SHORT SIDE OPTION YOU FRANK SOLICH WANNABE. Good lord, I wanted to kill another kitten watching that BS.

    - Going in even more, where is the Diamond? We torch Ohio State with this formation, and have rarely seen it since. Um, Beck, hello? Want to try it when we are struggling?

    - Ron Brown needs a reality check about whether Rex is really Superman. That kid was beat up, and running with little explosion today. But still yet, we put him out there and ran consistently with him. We recruited those 3 RBs behind Rex for a reason so when another RB got worn down, we would go to another horse in the stable. When Rex was limping, and showing little burst, that should have been a hint to Coach Brown to get him some rest. Instead, we stuck with him. I love Rex as a player as much as anybody, but that game last week sucked the life out of him, and it showed today.

    - Credit to Taylor. Kid played his a** off today and you won't hear me say a SINGLE word about his effort, or his passing today. He did everything in his power to keep us in it. Respect to him for that.

    - Anyone notice who had the defensive playsheet? Last week the gameplan was tremendous, and the defense showed extreme effort thanks to Bo. But just a week later Bo's defense, that he gameplanned and set up, was completely overmatched. It's a reality that our defense lacks talent, especially in our front 7 - but there is only 1 person who overlooks EVERY offer that goes out, and plans this. The buck stops with Bo about how much talent we have, and how our defense performs. If this wasn't a wakeup call to Bo that he needs to go get some absolute studs (JUCO or otherwise) who can play day 1 next season, then he needs his head examined.

    - Clock management at the end was terrible. In the end, because we didn't get the onside kick, it didn't matter. However, if we had, and we only have 17 seconds remaining because of Bo's mismanagement, then I would be absolutely LIVID. Still, it's an issue because it shouldn't happen regardless.

    - Ciante, I would bench you for the rest of the year for your effort on that 4th down play. I understand playing your lane if it's the 1st quarter, but in the 4th quarter on 4th and short, you take that QBs a** out and force him to make a difficult pitch instead of standing there letting him cut inside of you. That was almost as bad as watching Joe Dailey run out of bounds against USM on the final play of the game down near the goal line with the game on the line.

    - Tackling, anyone want to take this defense back to basics?

    - Baker, damm nice game out of you. Been waiting for that for a long time.

Probably more I forgot, but oh well. Time to drink.

Looks 100% on the money to me. Also agree.......another Beam on the rocks please.

Clock management wasn't lacking just at the end of the game. What about the end of the first quarter. Down by 7 and we let the last 30+ seconds run off the clock. Who knows what would have happened if we had run one more play.

  11. Welcome to the Big 10. Everyone has those "wtf was that crap" type of losses to Northwestern from time to time. Next week they might go out and get whipped by Rice by 50 and you'll be more confused. It's what they do because they are a pesky gnat that you think you should beat but they jump up and bite you where it hurts.

The ISU of the Big Ten.

  12. Taylor Martinez. He played his ass off. Arguably the best game of his career... this is the first time he's put up those type of numbers while also playing game manager. If he continues to develop and grow as a quarterback, we are going to be very, very good in the coming years.

As long as we can get whatever is wrong with the defense fixed.

  13. I have been a follower on HuskerBoard for a while, and a Nebraska fan for over 20 years. I just joined HuskerBoard, so this is my very first post, so bare with me.

It is obvious after the Wisconsin debacle that Nebraska football still has many glaring issues and concerns that need to be addressed and fixed before we can even be considered to be approaching the nation’s elite again. There is no question that our overall history still makes us one of the Top 5 teams in the country. However, this last decade Nebraska football has lost its way. We have forgotten who we are, and what made us one of the most dominant and most feared teams in the 70’s, 80’s, & 90’s.

At our core Nebraska football is about: LEADERSHIP, ACCOUNTABILITY, & TOUGHNESS.

I have complete faith in Bo Pelini. He has won 9 or 10 games in each of the four years that he has been here, and thus we have also been to a bowl game each of those four years. The man has been a winner everywhere he has coached, and I have faith that he will get this program back to the top. We cannot forget that it took Osborne over 20 years before he finally won his 1st National Championship. If Bo continues to win 9 or 10 games every year I will be happy.

My biggest complaint I have with Bo, and I think this has had the most profound effect on the team, is in the way he selects new captains for every single game. This team needs leadership. The players need to hold themselves accountable when things don’t go right in a game. I wish Bo would take a look at this current policy and really consider choosing whom he & the coaches thought are the best 3 or 4 leaders on the team, and name them Team Captains for the entire season! Example: Rex Burkhead.

The next issue that Nebraska must figure out is: What is our IDENTITY on offense?

I am ok with us being Multiple. Heck, Tom Osborne believed in being multiple and having 12 to 15 different formations. But many times during a game we would run the same play from different formations, which is very confusing for a defense. Now that Callahan & Watson are gone….(thank God) I think things are on the right track now that Tim Beck is our offensive coordinator. I am thrilled that we are slowly brining back the Power Off-Tackle runs, the Power Iso, the Toss Sweeps, and yes the Triple & Speed Options. But the Wisconsin game was proof that we still look like we are calling plays from a grab bag. In the first quarter the power running game and the option game were working well, and it was helping Taylor with the Play-Action Passes. Why we started doing drop back passes from the Pistol formation the rest of the game still baffles me? So again, what is our IDENTITY?

I think Nebraska is perfect fit in the Big Ten, and while the Wisconsin game was a huge let down I am confident that Bo, Carl, and the rest of the Husker coaching staff will get Nebraska back to where it wants to be. But we need ACCOUNTABILITY & LEADERSHIP…not just from Bo, but more importantly from the players. So it is my opinion that if we bring back naming season long Team Captains and then finding a true identity on offense and sticking to that identity that the dominant Nebraska program we all crave will return sooner than we think.

What say you fellow Husker fans?

Agree with you 100% especially the part about the players holding themselves accountable for their actions on the field. I remember one shot of the defense sitting on the bench with their heeads hung, no fire no one trying to provide a spark. The coaches can only do so much from their its on the players.
