  1. I just can't get excited for Iowa. If the teams meet with the conference and national title implications on the line a few times, then I can see a rivalry starting. But even CU was just the de facto "rival" because Oklahoma was down and then stopped playing yearly. And CU wasn't much of a rival even with national and conference championships hanging in the balance almost yearly. Iowa has not been relevant to the national title hunt in my lifetime that I can recall, and Nebraska hasn't been in over a decade. Past controversy with PSU makes them NU's de facto "rival" until something forms with another program.

These things have to develop naturally, not with some ridiculous trophy. (FYI, the B1G has WAY too many trophies. I find that I care about none of them because they are all cheapened by having so many.) My money says Wisconsin or NW are more likely to become NU's rival than Iowa.

09 and 02 Iowa was ranked in the top 5 in November. Also, if national relevance is what you require for a rival than why are you suggesting that Wisconsin or Northwestern replace Iowa? Wisconsin would just kick Nebraska's a$$ mostly and have you seen Northwestern's record? Just because they consistently play tough with Nebraska doesn't mean they're nationally relevant. You Husker fans just provide so much entertainment.

Do you hang banners for that........??

No we don't. I was just pointing out that Iowa was nationally relevant in his lifetime. Do you know how to read and read context? Never mind that's a silly question.

  3. Yea, if you follow hawkeye fans on hawkeye boards all they talk about is Iowa State being there superbowl of the year. Well congratulations, you won your superbowl.

Lol don't flatter yourself. What about Nebraska RIGHT NOW is better than Iowa going forward. I don't need a history lesson. Going forward how can you say they will win 9/10? And yes I would consider 38-17 a curb stomping and with all of the times Iowa had the ball on Nebraskas side of the field it should have been a lot worse. This win doesn't feel any more special than the other 7 wins, Husker fans are just so fun and easy to rile up.

  4. NU should not have a rivalry with any team that is not a perennial top 15 team. This reminds me of Colorado. Colorado thought we were their rival, but NU did not reciprocate. CU had a few good years, but nothing like the dominate streak of OK. And from 1970 to 2000, NU was 28-3 against CU. Iowa is worse than CU was until post Skippy, and if NU has a true rivalry with Iowa, it substantiates the descendance of the program into mediocrity. Great team do not have rivalries with mediocre teams.

Nebraska is not a great team. Next.

Neither is Iowa. Enjoy this one, because Iowa victories in this "rivalry" will be few and far between....

I guess we'll see. I think you Huskers are more butt hurt about this loss than you let on. Iowa will have a very similar team next year and this years team just curb stomped you guys by 21. Last year Nebraska could only manage to beat a 4-8 Iowa team by 6 and James Vandenberg was our QB!. This series will be close there is no doubt about it. In today's college football Iowa and Nebraska are about equal. Please keep Pelini btw. He makes watching Husker meltdowns so much more enjoyable. :laughpound

  6. Playing Iowa is like playing that one apathetic guy in fantasy football... you know, the one who has given up and no longer checks his line up for byes and injuries. It's hard to care if you win because you know that he doesn't care if he loses.

For the same reason, a loss stings particularly badly because you know they were just going through the motions and are satisfied with any win and any season outcome.

We are upset that we are 8-3 going into the game. They are happy to have beaten Michigan to get to 7-4.

When we played OU, the stakes were always high. Both cared A LOT.

If you won, you went to the Orange Bowl and possibly to the National Title Game. If you lost, you lemented what might have been and it took a while for you to shake off the notion that the season was ruined by that defeat.

Maybe most Iowa fans have a more realistic expectation for where their program is at this point. Maybe Nebraska fans shouldn't be so upset at an 8-3 record? Seeing as that has been and will be the norm for Nebraska football for quite some time it might be a good idea to not set the bar too high. The college football landscape is vastly different than it was when Nebraska was a power. This makes it very difficult for a program like Nebraska or Iowa to compete for National titles on a consistent basis ("...but you're an Iowa fan what do you know about winning titles?" Please save it.) I do think it's fair for the both of our programs to expect 8-10 win seasons on a regular basis with the occasional 11 when things fall into place and 6-7 when it's time to rebuild. Both of our programs simply don't have the recruiting resources to do that. I mean lets face it both fan bases come from boring states to a 5 star athlete from Florida. My main point is that I don't believe that Nebraska is what it once was and most likely never will be. I'm not even trying to start a flame war by saying that, Nebraska has great history and it's hard to match that in the mid-west.

What is more likely to happen is Nebraska consistently being a tough team that is enjoyable for their fans to watch. As for me from an Iowa perspective, I truly believe that Iowa is getting better from being in the toilet last season and could be ready to make this series something special over the years. Friday's game should be great as both teams are very even and have strengths and weaknesses that will create interesting matchups. Iowa is not Colorado, but it's hard for me to say that given the recent results. For Iowa's sake I hope that they show some passion that was lacking the past two years to show that they are even with Nebraska. Here's to a great game on Friday :thumbs

  7. I am certainly not a huge fan of Ferentz, but he certainly represents our University a lot better than Pelini represents UNL. I'm just hoping that Kirk doesn't come up with a pure vanilla gameplan like he has the last couple years against you guys.

maybe you think so. i am perfectly fine with how bo represents our program. but, i guess if you cannot beat us, just as well go for the character assassination. real class.

So as long as Pelini keeps beating Iowa you're okay with him saying "F the fans."? Interesting.

Considering that one minute rant had more intensity than Kirk has had his entire career, sure.

I do wish Kirk showed more passion on the sideline, but he does show it at times when the camera is not on him. Mitch King (defensive tackle from 2005-08) has told stories of Kirk's emotion in the locker room and on the practice field. One story in particular is when Iowa was losing to Minnesota at halftime in 2006 Kirk came into the locked room and kicked the Floyd of Rosedale trophy. Not sure it was the smartest decision as I'm sure it was painful, but the talk that Kirk shows zero emotion is false. He just doesn't act like a clown on the sideline.

  10. I am thinking about making the trip to Lincoln in February for the Iowa game simply because I saw $5 tickets on sale online. It looks like these tickets are in the top section so I was wondering what the view is like from up there? Or what kind of deals would I be able to find outside of the arena before the game? Thanks and good luck in the rest of this game against Michigan State and good luck to the football team on Monday!

  11. If the game was played outdoors I guarantee Delaney would force the kickoff back to 2:30 on account of the B1G's rule of no night games past the month of October. I think that might take some of the atmosphere out of the game not having it at night, but maybe I'm wrong.

  12. Stoops is a Hawkeye?...

Yep their whole family are huge Hawkeyes and both of the Stoops brothers played here. Back in 1999 when Hayden Fry stepped down here Bob was primed and ready to fill the coaching spot, but our AD at the time had to get too full of himself and wouldn't bring him on right away while he was available. So Bob did what anyone else would do and basically said "Screw you, I'll take my ball and go to Oklahoma." Iowa settled for Kirk Ferentz and the rest is history.

    Well that worked out well...

Yep now Stoops is winning consistently at OU while Iowa is paying a fat cat coach $4 million a year to be 7-5 and play not to lose in every game.

  14. I would not be surprised if Stoops is holding out to make a decision to see if Norm Parker from Iowa steps down after this season. I doubt Ferentz would offer him because his defense is too sexy for Iowa, but if by some miracle Kirk does want him on Stoops would sign in a heartbeat. He is a Hawkeye through and through.

  15. I would love to meet some cool Huskers this November and tailgate for my first visit to Lincoln.

There will be no shortage of that my friend. I'd reserve a room downtown well in advance if you plan on staying the weekend though.

I live in Omaha so I will just go to the game and go right back. Thanks for the advice though! Might have to carry that over to my friends making the trip from Des Moines.
