  1. Not going to say they lost us the game, but the waived grounding was just mystifying. The ball was so far behind the LOS that it wasn't even a judgement call.

I just reviewed the grounding play and found that the Head Linesman went over to the Line Judge and asked him if the ball crossed the line of scrimmage and he apparently answered in the affirmative. I noticed that the Line Judge was five yards behind the line of scrimmage when the ball was released by the quarterback. The ball did get to where he was, but certainly did not cross the line of scrimmage on the fly.

  2. What about that horrible spot early on that gave them a first down? That was my first clue that the refs were

    Going to be horrid.

Are you talking about the 3rd and six play where the officials marked the ball a full yard ahead of where he caught the ball?

  3. The punt being downed was questionable in my opinion. Apparently if you make initial contact with one foot in the endzone then hop back out it counts as downing it. The block in the back that wasn't called was obviously costly. The PI wasn't going to get called and coaches know that, which is why they teach the defender to play that way. Overall there wasn't much for controversy. We just pissed it down our leg as usual. Without the turnovers I think we win that game by 10 points, but who knows for sure...

According to the following rule, the punt should have been ruled a touchback. The ball appeared to me to cross the plane of the goal. This rule was obtained from the provided link.

"Team A's untouched scrimmage kick strikes the ground in the field of play and breaks the plane of Team B's goal line. While the ball is in the air over the end zone, A81, who is either on the one-yard line or in the end zone, bats the ball into the field of play. RULING: Violation for illegal touching (Rule 6-3-11). Team B may accept the result of the play or next snap the ball at its 20 yard line (Exception rule 8-4-2-b).

  4. Big Ten Digital Network is a subscription streaming service so Sunday's game will only be available online to those who are subscribed to BTDN. Digital Network is a different service than BTN2Go. Generally, BTN will replay the game on TV the next day.

The game may be scheduled to play the next day on BTN, but there is no guarantee that it will. Western Illinois vs Nebraska was also scheduled to be played on BTN the next day (today) and it wasn't. I scheduled my DVR to record the game and came home in the middle of it. I found out that I was recording Ohio State vs Ohio which was scheduled to play after the Nebraska game. As soon as the Ohio State game was over BTN played the Michigan State vs Kentucky game which was aired nationally last night. I was upset, but there's not much I can do about it.
