The offense blew it. Our D was designed to make teams sustain drives, our Offense had to be able to score points at times to win games. The fact that the offense could not do this when necessary led to the offseason O staff changes.
Giving up 23 points including 7 on that 31 yard TD drive to an offense as good as Oklahoma's is no shameful thing when the Offense essentially assumed the fetal position after the first quarter. And they STILL had a chance to win it late. How about that halfback pass to Martinez? what a really great call. Or how many of you were screaming REX+WILDCAT in the 4th quarter?
Watson and the O staff shoulders the lion's share of the blame (read: 99%) for every single loss the last 2 seasons, not the D. That's why the coaches of the under-performers are gone(offense-scoring-points/receiver production much?). If you disagree, I'm sorry, but you just don't know jack about football.
Also: Notice how the changes on the D staff were not due to "lack of performance", but rather to fill positions of departing coaches.
Any astute observer of the last 3 NU football seasons understands that the offense has not been holding up it's HALF of the deal, and increasingly so each season(not to beat that horse any more, but really...).

How is everybody missing the "more blitz/pressure this season" comments from the staff?
I don't think it's that we're missing those comments, it's more like, we're waiting to actually see them do it. Carl also said that Peso wasn't our base defense last year, then later admitted we were in the Peso something like 75% of the time.
Yes, and carl re-iterated that this spring, that the peso is not a base defense, its a personnel package.
PERSONNEL PACKAGE.

My only real concern with the line (and really the entire Defense) is that assuming Martin takes the starting spot at End (and I think he will) we're going to be very top heavy next year. We'll have a new DT to replace Crick but Martin, Meredith and Steinkuhler will all be seniors which added to potentially 2 starting senior linebackers in Fisher/Compton and 2 starting senior safeties in Smith/Osborne... means the probability is that we will be breaking in a TON of new starters in 2013.
Two year window to win the MNC?
I'll take it.

Best D in the country this season. Book it.

Heck no, I don't want that happening. Camp Randall is already one of the toughest places to play in CFB, it doesn't need to be intensified by a night game.
orly.
wisconsin, and the rest of the big ten, is going to be shocked at how difficult it is to run the ball against the blackshirts this fall.
Your v a g i n a is showing.
OMG NOOOOOOOOO NOT THE BIG SLOW TEN NOOOOOOO
Here's how it really go: the worst performing (vs. their BCS peers this past season), slowest, most strategically backwards football conference in the country has lined up all their prize chickens for NU to decapitate this fall.
Goody goody gumdrops.

they did not show the actual offense that will be on the field this fall, which is what TM is better than anyone else at running.
period. end of story.

IF Kellogg can't run the option like TM and Carnes, he won't play.
Clue: The option is back baby, in a big way.

"Martinez leaving the team, then being allowed back" is not a rumor that has been proven false.
it's like dealing with a a birther.
I've got my certificate.
WHERE'S YOURS!?

The reality is though if our offensive line doesn't get it done then these guys will not be able to hit their full potential. But yes the backfield is stacked with talent no doubt.
My thoughts exactly. The O-line has to produce. You can put an average back behind a good O-line and he will look great. Put a great back behind a terrible O-line and he will look terrible. (the exception being Barry Sanders)

I was under the impression the NU donates the money made at the game to a charity of some sort, is that incorrect?
If not, I've got a charity in mind that is in dire, dire need.
ME. HOOK IT UP.

Joe probably was/is the better passer....

Just thinking about that period of time makes my stomach churn. You'll have to excuse me.

Bing bang boom.
errr Boom zing whoosh or something.

In my opinion we should move Carnes to #2. Give CG a RS year and move him to another position like TE. No use burning another year of his eligibility if he will never see the field at the QB position.
I honestly think if Green ever makes a change it will be to defense.
I honestly think we may very well need every able-bodied QB before the end of this upcoming season. Don't be so quick to dismiss Green, he (or Carnes, or __________) may yet save the season.

There are people who will not get behind Taylor Martinez, no matter what.
If T.M., at any point, is holding a crystal football above his head, every red-blooded Nebraskan will be behind him, or I'll eat my hat.
Feel free to replace "T.M." with "Bo" as applicable.

Nebraska, beginning to be all about the Number 1, that's "Winning" of course.

Welcome to Nebraska!

Put Frazier, Frost or Crouch on this year's team and they aren't going to win 11+ games passing the ball 10-15 times a game like they did back then.
Exactly!

Bo is the answer, not the problem. More Bo = Less Problems. Less Bo = More Problems. This year, we get more Bo! YAAAAAY
