Nebraska Announces Two-Year Basketball Deal With FSN Midwest

The Nebraska Athletic Department and FSN Midwest announced Thursday a two-year agreement to televise Nebraska basketball games on the Huskers’ third-tier television package. Ten men's basketball games will be televised live around the state by FSNMW in 2005-06, marking the second consecutive season Nebraska and FSN Midwest have teamed up to bring home and away contests to Husker fans.

 

 

 

“We received a great deal of positive feedback from fans throughout the state of Nebraska about the Husker telecasts last year and we are excited to again team with FSN for two more years,” said NU Executive Associate A.D. Marc Boehm. “There is a great deal of anticipation about the upcoming season and the athletic department made it a goal to bring Husker basketball to more fans, especially road games. With FSN’s help, fans can now see 10 contests away from the Devaney Center this season.”

 

 

 

FSN Midwest will produce and televise 10 men’s basketball games this season under the new two-year agreement. The Huskers will have four non-conference games televised, including matchups with Longwood (Nov. 18), Marquette (Nov. 30) and North Carolina A&T (Dec. 19) at home and a road contest against Florida State on New Year’s Eve. Overall, the Huskers will have 10 road games televised this year, including four by FSNMW.

 

 

 

Nebraska will be seen on television 15 times during the 16-game Big 12 Conference schedule, including six games on FSNMW. FSN Midwest will also telecast two Nebraska women’s basketball games, including Dec. 17 at Michigan and Jan. 7 against Kansas.

 

 

 

All games on FSN Midwest will be regional telecasts available on cable and satellite only in the state of Nebraska, per Big 12 Conference rules.

 

 

 

“We are proud to be the television home of Nebraska basketball,” said Jack Donovan, FSN Midwest Vice President and General Manager. “We’ll have outstanding matchups in both non-conference and conference play, and promise to deliver a top-notch production each game.”

 

 

 

An additional men’s game will be available within the state, as Creighton announced it decided to air the Nebraska-Creighton contest from the Qwest Center on Nebraska Educational Television. Husker fans will have a chance to see 20 of 29 regular-season games on national or regional television.

 

 

 

Greg Sharpe, who called the action during the inaugural season of the Husker/FSN telecasts in 2004-05, will handle play-by-play duties for both the men’s and women’s games. A two-time Kansas Sportscaster of the Year, Sharpe previously served as the voice of the Kansas State Wildcats from 1996 to 2002 and called the 2001 and 2002 NCAA Tournament for Westwood One Radio. He is currently the host of a sports talk show in Topeka, Kan., on WIBW radio.

 

 

 

Joining Sharpe again on men’s basketball telecasts as color analyst will be Matt Davison, who returns for his third year handling color commentary for men’s basketball games on the Pinnacle Sports Network.

 

 

 

FSN Midwest, a regional sports television network, reaches more than 4.3 million cable and satellite television homes in six states. It carries more than 2,000 hours of local programming each year, including professional basketball (Indiana Pacers), baseball (St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals) and hockey (St. Louis Blues), along with Big 12 football, Big 12 women’s basketball and several other collegiate athletic contests. Nationally, FSN’s 20 regional sports channels reach more than 82 million homes in the United States.

That's great. Fans are showing up, TV stations are showing up--Now if only a basketball team would show up we'd be all set.

Im looking fwd to more coverage for Husker hoops. This will be good for the program, and IMO has been the main reason it has been stunted inner-state for the past several years.
