2 Fateful Decisions

In TM's current 2.125 seasons as starter, who would you have started instead?
never got an explanation for Lee's status (we all seem to think maybe he was hurt?) - but if Lee started that year the outcome with Cody Green would have been different. I'm in the "skeptical but optimistic" camp with Taylor so this is no way dogging on him...but had Lee started the entire season, it's likely Taylor would have been #3 behind Cody (or maybe still a WR)...and Cody would have gotten meaningful snaps and might be starting today. We'll never know how it would have played out - but I think most can agree that Cody was never put in a position to succeed. Thrown in to games and terrible times, started against one of the best teams on our schedule, etc. Or, possibly Taylor would be better today having learned the QB position (like it seems he is finally doing) instead of forced into a couple years of having to just depend on his athleticism. Regardless, the decision to start TM as a freshman is certainly the biggest decision Bo has made as an HC. Any other decision and a lot of hypotheticals can be reached.
I agree with this and am glad that you put it out here like this. It makes sense and I hope they are really working hard with Armstrong this year and next and then Also with Stanton next year and after to make DAMN SURE they are put in a position to succeed.

Baker wanted to play defense and he did pretty good at the Army All-American bowl.

WEST DEFENSE

This was a tough one to dish out as several West defensive players had big games. The ball could have easily gone to Nolan Brewster or Baker Steinkuhler as both came to play on Saturday. But the award goes to Los Angeles Dorsey defensive back Rahim Moore. The 6-foot, 185-pound four-star player was great all week in practice and was extremely impressive in the game. He finished the game with six tackles, including four stops and a pass breakup.
I get that. It's a reflection of how talented a kid he is that he can be pretty good at a position that probably does not come naturally to him.

I will be really curious if the NFL looks at him as a D-Lineman, or if they look at him as a OT.

Funny how no matter what happens, Taylor always catches some blame from someone on this board. HOW was anything that happened Taylor's fault. Beck had a serious brain fart in the play calling, and that is why Taylor looked crappy toward the end of the game.

From my understanding Baker asked for the switch because we were extremely thin there and it was his best chance to get on the field the fastest. I hate to lable Baker a bust considering he should be on the OL rather than the DL. I also don't follow the logic of why we shouldn't have recruited Martinez. If memory serves me correctly, we recruited Frazier when every other big name school with the exception of Notre Dame wanted him for safety. If we'd stick to the run more and not try to make Martinez a drop back passer, everyone would more than likely sing a different tune. Last year, we got into big trouble when we tried to make him a gunslinger. We just need to take the TO approach where we can get back in the game running the ball even when down a couple of scores.

I could have posted this thread in March or June. The UCLA game is immaterial to my point.

I am simply saying that the 2 decisions may be very impactful on the nature of Bo's tenure due both to the duration of the decision and the ramifications of said decisions.

I'm hoping the ship rights itself and the season finishes strong. History, however, isn't exactly buoying that hope.

Seeing how Steinkuhler gets pushed around now, I don't have any good reason to believe he'd be any better on offense. He'd still get pushed around, he'd just be playing a different position.

Martinez might be dead by now.

I understand that.

I think he is out of position. Leverage for a DT is different than leverage for an OT.

But you could be right.

I'd sure like to see him at OT though.

at least if he was on our OL he'd be expected to move beyond the line of scrimmage....our DL treat the line of scrimmage like some invisible fence - with the collar firmly attacked to their nut sack. Cross it trying to get a pass rush and they get shocked.
