The point of Coach Power'T stands as I see it ... if all things are equal, then I'd go with POB with no hesitation.

I personally don't think all things will be equal but if they are I'm going with the younger kid. Lee would become the backup if all things are equal as youth would trump the rank in my eyes.

If Lee should win the job and POB gets disgruntled then that is the cost of fair competition. I'll trust that the coaches will make this process more then known, especially if POB has maturity/competition issues.

NU got their projected starting QB (Lee) as a result of him being disgruntled at Tulane, and you are questioning about QB's transferring?

Neat? I don't think it's just QB's who are transferring schools if they aren't happy with their playing time but regardless that's on you as a coaching staff also to recruit guys who don't exhibit the chararacteristsics of being prima donna 'flight risks' also.

Do people think POB is one of those possible kids who if he doesn't get pt might transfer? I'm old school so for me my attitude is let him go then.

Practice grades. Each practice is charted and graded. It is why sometimes us fans get pissed that a certain player isn't playing but the coaches don't like the players practice grades.

OK....Using that. If I were coach, I would still start Lee at the beginning of the year. He is the one with game experience at this level. I would try my best then to work POB into games. Once that happens, then you evaluate how each plays in games.

I am a firm believer that a kid needs to work his a$$ off and prove he deserves playing time in practice. There are exceptions. But, usually, if a kid can't prove he can play in practice, he isn't going to get it done on game day. HOWEVER, there are some kids who practice really well but melt under pressure during the game.

So, like I said, start Lee first game, then continue evaluating game day production as time goes on.

At OSU, Sean Mannion, a redshirt freshman, took the starting job from Ryan Katz who was the starter the year before and a junior. Riley had a scoring system in place and determined Mannion scored higher. Mannion started and the other guy transferred to San Diego State. My hunch is Riley will play the better guy no matter the age or on field experience.

I'm not anywhere near the vicinity of the Tanner Lee hype machine. Kid was a below average QB at a below average program. Let's hope that 1. the competition is honest, and 2. the legit best man starts, regardless if that's Lee or POB. I do, however, have a sneaking suspicion that it won't matter in 2018.

Does your analysis of Lee take into consideration that he played with a broken finger on his throwing hand in his second season and also missed time due to a concussion?

Why is this discussion continuing - I have seen on several occasions that POB and Lee get along and are having fun in the environment. I haven't seen anywhere that either one of these guys has stated that they could not handle being second string at NU.

Back then, Langsdorf wanted to start Mannion over Katz based on what happened in camp. Mannion still hadn't seen live action at this point. The team was behind Katz. So were fans because we thought he had a NFL arm. Well, in their first game against Sac State, Katz threw a red zone pick and got benched. Mannion, the third stringer at that point, was put in. The rest is history. Langs was looking for a reason to demote Katz for Mannion and got it when he threw the pick.

Obviously this won't happen but it disturbed me how over the last couple of years we can't even blow out the "gimme" teams and get young guys playing time.

Prior to Banker being shown the door, I was honestly on the fence if Riley would bench a more senior guy. No more. Riley will play the best QB we have. He has shown two of his good friends the door. At this point, I do not think Riley is looking for new friends or accepting applications. He is trying to win and he will go with the guy who gives us the best chance.

I am happy to see that we actually have 3 QB's who fit the system that staff envisions. I still feel, even as a possible "pass first" team, we will develop a strong running game. Perhaps not by design, but from the simple fact if we can get a 60-65% passer, teams can no longer stack the box. Making it easier for the OL to get to the 2nd level and the RB to not have to get "through" so many bodies to get to the open field. Jet sweeps are easier when there's not 8 in the box....... From HS, POB appears to at least be mobile enough to get yards with his feet.
