2025-2026 College Football Playoff

Alabama backup QB drives them downfield for 3 points in 5 1/2 minutes. Under 3 minutes left in Q3. Indiana up 24-3.

Indiana will take 5 minute drives for 3. If they have another long drive like the last couple and score anything, Alabama runs out of time.

Same thing with Carson Beck also. He had a couple really clutch 4-5 yard runs to keep the chains/drive moving…but he’s not running these smashmouth zone read keepers.

It isn’t necessary.

I’m telling you, the idea of needing a QB that can run the ball like Eric Crouch as the guy’s primary attribute just did not translate in 2025 whatsoever.

The mentality should be, you have to have a competent passer. If the guy can scramble, it’s an added bonus.
It really is more about the threat of the QB run game. If they don't have to account for that, you are playing 10 on 11.

Agree. I'd love a "true" dual threat, but unsure how many of those truly exist. 55% competion rate won't cut it. I'll take a mobile QB over a "pure" pocket QB or "alleged" dual threat guy for sure. Loved Mendoza pre game, saying he knows his role. Get it to the guys to make plays...

Kirk mentioned this, that they have to factor in while not a "runner, he can run". I don't think anyone remotely thought of Dylan as a run concern.

Mendoza's helmet audio must still be having issues. He ran to the sideline and almost didn't get the play off in time. Then got a first down.

Mendoza ran a draw on 3rd and 4 in the first half. There was no real hole, he just bounced and squirted through for a first down. Head first running on several occasions.

Indiana is winning in the trenches. Pressure the QB without blitzing. Moving Alabama's Dline around making holes.

The running backs pick up yards all game, when Alabama stacks the box Mendoza is accurate enough to get the long 3rd downs.
